The impact of Covid-19 pandemic on corporate social responsibility and marketing philosophy

In this article, we offer some initial examination on how Covid-19 pandemic can influence the developments of CSR and marketing. We argue that Covid-19 pandemic offers a great opportunity for businesses to shift towards more genuine and authentic CSR and contribute to address urgent global social and environmental challenges. We also discuss some potential directions of how consumer ethical decision making will be shifted to due to the pandemic. In our discussion of marketing, we outline how we believe marketing is being affected by this pandemic and how we think this will change, not only the context of marketing, but how organizations approach their strategic marketing efforts. We end the paper with a identifying a number of potentially fruitful research themes and directions.

Abstract The study empirically investigates the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and organizational performance from the perspective of European multinational firms. Further, the study examines the effectiveness of corporate reputation as a moderator on CSR-organizational performance linkages. Final data comprised 340 responses collected from senior executives/managers working in European multinational firms. A two-stage approach was used to analyze the association: stage 1 involved theoretical model construction using the strategic paradigm of literature; in stage 2, hierarchical regression analysis was performed to examine the relevant relationships. Results have shown that CSR, when exercised towards external stakeholders, influences organizational performance. Moreover, this influence has been found to vary between well-established, reputable firms and business firms with weaker reputations.
Corporate social responsibility and firm performance in the hotel industry. The mediating role of green human resource management and environmental outcomes

Abstract In this research two concepts of current relevance in the management literature are related, such as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and green human resource management (GHRM). So far, research in both fields has been developed in parallel; However, we consider that it is necessary to deepen the connection between both variables and their impact on the environmental and financial outcomes of firms. This paper aims to analyze the relationship between CSR and firm performance, considering on the one hand the direct relationship, and on the other hand, the possible mediation in said relationship of some variables such as GHRM and environmental outcomes. A variance-based structural equation modeling (Partial Least Squares) was applied to a sample of Spanish hotel firms. The results obtained show the existence of a direct and positive relationship between CSR and performance. In addition, we have found an indirect effect on the aforementioned relationship through the mediation of GHRM and environmental outcomes. The results of this study make several contributions to the CSR and GHRM literature, as well as practical contributions for managers.
Strategic sustainable development of Industry 4.0 through the lens of social responsibility: The role of human resource practices

Research on sustainable development is significantly influenced by the trade-off between the economic, social and environmental performance of businesses. Industry 4.0 development is a key business priority due to the promise of exponential increase in productivity, time efficiencies and cost reduction. However, Industry 4.0 development has been slow. Notably, human actors remain central to Industry 4.0, while the social responsibility component of sustainable development is a key prerog-ative for industry, championed through the UN sustainable development goals and European Commission. Therefore, we evaluate human-related impediments for Industry 4.0 and critically explore how human resource management (HRM) can overcome these barriers using a socially responsible orientation. First, we analyse the human-related challenges to Industry 4.0 through a thematic literature review. There-after, through an integrative literature review of different research streams (Industry 4.0, HRM and social responsibility), we critically argue novel perspectives on how human resource practices can enable sustainable development of Industry 4.0 in a socially responsible manner. Herein, we address a crucial literature gap. Our findings reveal numerous people-related barriers, including change resistance, digital skills gap, employment threats widening socio-economic inequalities, lack of industry-wide collaboration, leadership and organisational culture challenges. We show that HRM can be a crucial enabler for sustainable Industry 4.0 development through socially responsible human resource practices. PurposeThis study aims to examine the role of reverse supply networks (RSN) and innovative technologies in enhancing reverse logistics (RL) implementation, underpinned by the Complex Adaptive Systems theoretical lens.Design/methodology/approachA cross-sectional quantitative research design was adopted, using data from 65 plastics recycling focal firms, representing 264 responses from RL practitioners. Data analysis used Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling through SmartPLS to test established hypotheses.FindingsThe results reveal the multidimensional nature of the RSN and its significant role in RL implementation in plastics recycling industries. Specifically, supply base and formalization significantly influence RL implementation, while relations did not prove to be a significant predictor. In addition, innovative technologies mediate the relationship between the RSN and RL implementation.Research limitations/implicationsThis study, focused on Uganda’s plastics recycling industry, may limit generalizability to other sectors or regions. Future research should explore paper, electronics or textile recycling to assess RSNs across industries and developing countries. The cross-sectional design restricts observing long-term dynamics, limiting insights into changes over time.Originality/valueThis study advances the application of complex adaptive systems theory in RL operations, offering a novel perspective on the structural dynamics of RSNs. By empirically examining their influence on RL implementation, this study contributes to global discourse by enriching theoretical understanding and offering practical implications for enhancing RL efficiency.

The Relationship Between Supply Environment, Supply Chain Integration and Performance Considering Opportunistic Behaviors

<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">This research was conducted with the aim of examining the relationship among supply environment, supply chain integration, and performance considering opportunistic behaviors. This research employed a goal-oriented approach and utilized a descriptive-correlational design for its data collection procedure.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The required data in this study were collected using a questionnaire. The statistical population was all the engineers and managers active in the manufacturing companies located in the industrial town number one of Arak. From among the statistical population of 230 individuals, a sample of 140 participants was obtained using the Cochran sampling method. They were selected through random sampling. The data were analyzed using the Partial Least Squares (PLS) technique, employing SmartPLS software for the analysis. The obtained results showed that there is a significant relationship between supply environment, supply chain integration and performance. However, the mediating role of opportunistic behaviors did not demonstrate a significant relationship, leading to the rejection of the hypothesis.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">Waste of resources in a supply chain occurs due to the opportunistic tendencies of its members. Curbing the opportunistic tendencies of influential members who take unfair advantage of weaker organizations helps to reduce the resource consumption of weaker parties in the supply chain. Transaction costs also affect the way organizations interact with each other and cause organizations to show opportunistic behavior in order to maximize their profits. Supply chain integration is based on supply chain management concepts and considers the supply chain as an integrated system. It also focuses on sustainable performance and subsequently includes strategic and executive elements. This view of supply chain performance has led to the emergence of a supply chain management research domain called supply chain orientation. Supply chain orientation is based on the view that the organization's supply chain is an independent entity and focuses on achieving results within the supply chain that lead to better performance. So far, the relationship between supply environment, supply chain integration and performance considering opportunistic behaviors has not been considered. Is there a relationship between supply environment, supply chain integration and performance considering opportunistic behaviors or not? Identifying this relationship will provide an opportunity for future research to consider the effect of supply chain orientation on other supply chain functions and external performance outcomes. Based on this and according to the said contents, the main purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between supply environment, supply chain integration and performance by considering opportunistic behaviors.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>2.Literature Review</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The findings of Nasri Rad's research (2015) showed a positive significant impact of the company's orientations on the sustainability of the supply chain. Among the dimensions of the company's orientation, two dimensions of environmental orientation and cultural orientation had a positive significant effect on sustainable purchasing and sustainable supply procedures. However, the two dimensions of social orientation and regional orientation did not have a significant effect on sustainable purchasing and sustainable supply practices. The results of the data analysis in the research conducted by Mehrabani and Hassanzadeh Farashband (2014) showed that the direction of the supply chain and the relationship management variable with the main supplier have an effect on the effectiveness of organizational purchasing. The results of the structural equation model in the research conducted by Taghizadeh Yazdi and Zulfi (2014) revealed a positive significant causal relationship between supply chain actions and competitive advantage. Also, the direct and indirect relationship between supply chain actions and sustainability was confirmed. Li and Nam (2016) showed in their research that organizational supply chain orientation has a significant effect on supply chain management and that it is also affected by management supply chain orientation. On the other hand, operational supply chain management is only affected by supply chain orientation information technology. Structural supply chain orientation also moderates the role of strategic supply chain orientation in meeting customer needs. Luzini (2015) demonstrated in his research that supply chain collaboration improves business performance; the market, performance, value and cooperation of the supply chain positively affects the financial performance; and the cooperation capabilities between companies have a positive significant impact on the company's business performance. Also, the cooperation of upstream and downstream members of the chain can support different forms of business. In their study, Esper et al. (2010) showed that the strategy and orientation of the structural supply chain can be effective in realizing the organization's goal of increasing organizational advantages. Finally, Gold et al. (2010), in their study, revealed that the strategic and structural dimensions of supply chain orientation help to improve supply chain cooperation and its combined effect is greater especially in uncertain dynamic environments.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>3.Methodology</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The methodology employed in this research is grounded in applied research principles. The purpose of this research was to test theoretical concepts in real-world situations and address practical problems to improve the processes or products. The statistical population of the present study consisted of all the engineers and managers active in the manufacturing companies located in the industrial town of Arak, 140 of whom were selected as the sample of the study through available sampling. The current research has two distinct phases in the data collection and analysis. In the first phase, the data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics methods. In descriptive statistics, mean, standard deviation and frequency tables are used. Then, inferential statistics are employed to explain the relationships between variables and generalize the results to the society. Cronbach's alpha test is used to determine reliability, and Lisrel software and structural equation model are used to confirm or reject each hypothesis.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>4.Result</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Initially, library studies were used to review the necessary theoretical literature in the field under investigation and then, the information needed for this research was collected through a questionnaire. The statistical population of the current research was all the engineers and managers active in the manufacturing companies located in the industrial town of Arak. Form among the statistical population of 230 individuals, a sample equal to 140 participants was recruited through random sampling. To analyze the data, partial least squares technique was used, employing SmartPLS software. The obtained results showed that there is a significant relationship between supply environment, supply chain integration and performance. However, the mediating role of opportunistic behaviors was rejected. This hypothesis was composed of some sub-hypotheses. The results obtained for testing each of these sub-hypotheses are as follows: The results obtained from the t-statistic at the rate of 9.193 showed that there is a significant relationship between the supply environment and the integrity of the supply chain; the results obtained from the statistic t at the rate of 8.094 showed that there is a significant relationship between supply chain integration and productivity; the results obtained from the t statistic at the rate of 23.703 revealed that operational profit has a significant relationship with environmental performance; and the results obtained from the t-statistic at the rate of 1.118 rejected the mediating role of opportunistic behaviors within the work environment regarding the influence of supply chain integration on operational productivity.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>5.Discussion</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">In a supply chain, waste of resources arises from the opportunistic tendencies of its members. By curbing the opportunistic tendencies of influential members who exploit unfair advantages over weaker organizations helps to reduce the resource consumption of weaker parties in the supply chain. Therefore, it is suggested that industries, after adopting the appropriate supply chain strategy, in order to examine the correctness of this strategy and achieve the goals corresponding to that strategy, seek integration in the supply chain of their organization and its development. By holding training courses, managers and officials should increase the chain members' knowledge about the factors affecting the supply chain management of the project to enhance operational efficiency. This can be achieved by outlining a series of actions related to social responsibility towards the environment and employees, which may include: increased attention and investment in training employees focusing on skill development and behavioral improvement, determining rewards and welfare facilities appropriate to the performance of employees, career development and the possibility of promotion at all organizational levels, equality and job justice at all organizational levels, involving employees in decision-making, creating a cheerful, clean and safe environment for employees, and improving productivity and accordingly, performance in this environment.</p>

Impact of BIM Adoption on Project Performance: The Mediating Role of Resource Efficiency and Moderating Role of Stakeholder Collaboration

Purpose: This research explores the effect of BIM adoption on project performance with the focus on the mediation of resource efficiency and the moderating factor of stakeholder work with each other. Through the combination of these essential aspects, the study will help to obtain a thorough insight into the possible ways of maximizing the use of resources, minimizing wastages, and enhancing the effectiveness of the construction projects with the use of BIM.
Design/Methodology/Approach: The study adopts a quantitative, cross-sectional survey design. The design is further enhanced by incorporating Hayes PROCESS Model 5, which enables simultaneous testing of mediation and moderation effects.
Findings: Using a sample of 170 construction professionals and Hayes PROCESS Model 5, the study found that BIM adoption significantly improves resource efficiency and that resource efficiency, in turn, significantly improves project performance. Resource efficiency fully mediates the BIM → performance relationship; stakeholder collaboration did not moderate the direct path in this analysis.
Implications/Originality/Value: The findings provide both theoretical refinement (process-mediated view of BIM) and concrete directions for practitioners and policymakers in developing economies like Pakistan. The results support a process-oriented view of BIM: BIM yields organizational capabilities (resource efficiency) that then drive performance. This empirical evidence strengthens RBV-type reasoning that treating BIM as a capability (or enabler of capabilities) is more insightful than viewing it as an isolated technological input. This study presents practical results through a quantitative analysis of how organizations can use BIM to achieve improved project deliverables. The result will add to both the academic literature and the industry practice in order to help stakeholders to achieve maximum benefits of implementing BIM.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a concept of voluntary business activities “whereby corporations integrate social concerns and other environmental concerns into their economic activities. CSR activities could be used to drive the financial performance of an organization upwards, while some corporations undertake them for other reasons, like reduce tax payment. Taxation is vastly seen as a leakage of the motives of the firm since it is paid out of the firm’s profit, this incentivizes tax avoidance and non-compliance. The study recommended that companies should be expected to increase CSR program activities not only for the environment by reforesting the natural damage that has been done to mining activities, but also to the surrounding community so that the surrounding community can take advantage of the company's existence which in the end will improve the standard of living of the surrounding community and gain legitimacy for the company so that the company's operations become smoother and do not get rejection from the community.
Waste management practices and environmental sustainability performance: does institutional pressure matter?

PurposeThis study investigates the effect of waste management practices and institutional pressures on environmental sustainability performance at the household level in Ghana, specifically within the Cape Coast metropolis.Design/methodology/approachThe study employed an explanatory and quantitative research design to analyze data collected from 339 sampled households, of which 242 responses were deemed valid for analysis. Data were processed using SPSS for descriptive statistical analysis and Smart-PLS 4 for structural equation modeling to examine relationships among the study variables.FindingsResults demonstrate that waste management practices significantly enhance environmental sustainability performance. Institutional pressures positively influence waste management practices and environmental sustainability performance. Interestingly, institutional pressure negatively moderates the relationship between waste management practices and environmental sustainability performance.Practical implicationsEnhanced understanding of these dynamics can aid policymakers and waste management institutions in crafting targeted interventions that foster more effective waste management practices at the household level.Social implicationsBy improving waste management practices and responding effectively to institutional pressures, households can significantly contribute to broader environmental sustainability goals, thus supporting sustainable urban development and responsible consumption patterns as outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).Originality/valueThis research contributes uniquely by articulating the moderating role of institutional pressures in the context of household waste management, a relatively underexplored area within environmental management research.

Green credit and enterprises’ carbon emission intensity: empirical data from Chinese microenterprises

Abstract This study empirically examined whether China’s green credit policies could significantly reduce enterprises’ carbon emission intensity. Constructing a difference-in-differences model, we utilized data from 1742 listed enterprises from 2003 to 2019 and the green credit guidelines issued in 2012 to perform a quasi-natural experiment. We found that (1) green credit can significantly reduce enterprise carbon emission intensity. (2) Green credit can significantly reduce the carbon emission intensity of enterprises at the macro level, through mechanisms such as industrial structure upgrading and energy efficiency improvement, and at the micro level, through mechanisms such as changing corporate business performance and reducing inefficient investment. (3) Enterprises with high social responsibility, low financing constraints, and low financial distress, as well as regions with high environmental regulatory intensity and high financial development, are prone to the inhibitory effect of green credit on corporate carbon emissions. Thus, implementing green credit policies in these areas would be effective. Based on these findings, specific recommendations are provided to promote a reduction in corporate carbon emissions.

Enhancing social responsibility and resilience through entrepreneurship and digital environment

Following the COVID‐19 pandemic, organisational resilience is key, especially for small and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs), which must face crises and overcome the handicap of today's digital markets. We explore how corporate social responsibility (CSR), digital technologies (DTs) and corporate entrepreneurship synergistically enhance SMEs' organisational resilience, employing dynamic capabilities theory to reveal mechanisms underlying CSR, DTs and organisational resilience. We assess this synergy empirically by surveying 259 participants from Andalusia's business landscape. Theoretical and practical implications illuminate SMEs' strategic DT use to amplify CSR and resilience. Finally, we outline practical guidelines for policymakers, business leaders and entrepreneurs to foster sustainable innovative practices. Embracing CSR and entrepreneurship cultivates resilience, enabling enterprises to thrive amidst challenges and stay competitive. Our paper advances knowledge by combining CSR's and DTs' roles in developing resilience in entrepreneurship. Ultimately, recognising and harnessing CSR, DTs and entrepreneurship synergy empowers SMEs to forge resilient business environments for lasting success.
Investigation of News about the Success of Individuals with Special Needs in Türkiye’s News Agencies

Introduction: The media has prepared several news items about individuals with special needs. This news, with a positive perspective, can change people’s attitudes and behaviors toward individuals with special needs in a positive direction. Thus, this study aimed to examine the news published by national news agencies in Türkiye about the success stories of individuals with special needs using the document analysis method to change negative attitudes and mindsets toward individuals with special needs.Method: The study was carried out using document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods. The three most distinguished national broadcast networks, Anadolu Agency, Demirören News Agency, and İhlas News Agency, were scanned for success stories of individuals with special needs. The news items published between 2010 and 2022 were analyzed with content analysis and then categorized and examined thoroughly. In total, 259 news items from Anadolu Agency, 311 news items from Demirören Agency, and 66 news items from İhlas News Agency were examined. These news items were evaluated under the following headings: news agency, news type, country of publication, gender of the individual, type of special needs, institution supporting the individual with special needs, type of success, and source of inspiration.Findings: The findings showed that Türkiye’s national news agencies published many news items about the success stories of individuals with special needs. The news items reached were categorized under education, business, art, sports, and social responsibility. As a result of examining the areas, it was found that most news items were prepared in the sports area.Discussion: It was observed that negative news in the media was found more common and more visible. Therefore, this study aimed to examine success stories of individuals with special needs. The current study showed that news items regarding the success stories of individuals with special needs in the national news agencies were published broadly. The news items investigated in this study indicate that special needs are represented positively in the media and reveal that individuals with special needs have success stories in the fields of education, business, art, sports, and social responsibility. It can be recommended to scan different news agencies or use different keywords in future research.
