The griffin is one of the symbolic animals that is deeply rooted in the culture and beliefs of different governments. The motif of this animal is present both in mythology and the history of literature, as well as in the majority of architectural elements, dishes, ornaments, textiles, which manifest the beliefs and opinions of the people of ancient times. The griffin is one of the mythical birds of the ancient world, shaped like an eagle from the front half and a lion from the back half. It can be said that the exact origin of the griffin is not known and many names have been mentioned for this animal in different civilizations and it has appeared in various forms in the art of different nations. Based on this, the present research studies the symbology of this special and rare animal (along with its motif) in numerous works of art in Iran in the Achaemenid era and the comparative study of this image in that era. The research method is descriptive and analytical, and its information is collected through library sources and published images of ancient times. The results of the analysis show that the griffin has concepts and beliefs that among the ancient people suggest greatness, opposition between good and evil, royal power, protector and guardian. At the same time, these motifs are symmetrically created in a static and dynamic state, which is completely abstract. The motif of Griffin in each region has been influenced by the native culture of the people of that region and has various concepts that have been changed at any time according to the ethnic, cultural, artistic conditions and beliefs of the time.

This edited volume of essays challenges the performing arts bias for post-structuralist critiques of the archive as a centre of logocentric authority. It will appeal to theatre and performance scholars with research specialisms in performance documentation and digital culture. Case studies that discuss how documents can preserve the dynamism and animacy of live performance will be of interest to archivists and curators who work with performing arts collections. The book in general will make a valuable addition to reading lists on library and information science (LIS) and performing arts courses that address the intersection between live art works and the galleries, libraries, archives and museums (GLAM) sector.

The first objective of this paper is to provide an overview of the curricula offered by Polish higher education institutions aimed at future workers in the culture and creative sectors. Desk research is supplemented by a qualitative analysis of students’ needs on professional education and the perception of cultural labour in Poland, and concluding remarks attempt to provide a preliminary response to the key expectations and gaps highlighted in the reported analysis. The paper argues that to sustain the trends of growth and to support the professionalisation of managing cultural and creative initiatives, higher education institutions in Poland have to develop a more explicit balance between pure cultural studies and cultural management education approaches. The breakthrough achievements require support from a parallel breakthrough – formation tools that adapt alternative methods from organisation studies.

This paper evaluates the connecting fabric between gendered violence and human rights through the dire lenses of widowhood rites in Oshimili-North Local Government Area in Delta State, Nigeria. This evaluation stems from the Sustainable Development Goal-5 whose aim is the eradication of all forms of discrimination against women as well as harmful practices. Hinged on the theories of cultural relativism and universalism, the paper provides information on the existence of dehumanizing cultural practices related with widowhood rites despite the enactment of human rights instruments that are expected to address this form of discrimination targeted mostly against women. In-depth interviews were conducted among widows who voluntarily shared their experiences. Findings show widows’ acceptability of widowhood practices despite their educational and financial status notwithstanding. Also worthy of note is that women are perpetrators of these widowhood rites and they ensure its strict compliance among other widows. It recommends the dire need of the Nigerian government to domesticate the global rights regime into its legal framework, education of the populace through the interpretation, appropriation and the reconstructing of these transnational discourses into the indigenous and ensure that, effective monitoring mechanisms are in place to guarantee the effective protection of this vulnerable population.

Customary and cultural values are an important part which may be found not only in daily routines, but also reflected in all actions, particularly in art. Women’s smooth characteristic in Minangkabau tradition is called siganjua lalai. This research needs to be conducted since some choreographers make princess dance using masculine movements. This research aims at studying and finding the basic concept of women’s dance movements according to the concept of siganjua lalai. This research employs qualitative and experimental methods with social approach of Minangkabau culture. Analyzed using interpretive qualitative techniques, the data are in the form of siganjua lalai dance movement concept, including the design of 1) space, 2) time and 3) energy. The experiment was conducted with students of Sendratasik Study Program, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Padang State University. Based on the research results, the basic patterns of siganjua lalai cover attitudes, leg and arm movements. The philosophy also considers the space, time, and energy. Therefore, the pattern design refers to the philosophy of siganjua lalai. The dance may be expressed in accordance with Minangkabau women’s characteristics in reflecting their cultural identity.

If what can be described as “ideal” in relation to art may be somewhat abstract, then in this article I will apply the basic notion that the ideal is that which links the invisible (thought-content) and visible (the form, “frame”, “vessel”) to that of ideal as it manifests in sport. For, since we cannot speak intelligibly about x without some image or word, sport “pictures” or shows are an ideal in specific forms, some of which is certainly artistic, rendering a watered-down version of the ideal (abstract), though no less a reflection thereof. In such terms, it is not that sport is “lower” than art; rather it concretizes the abstract in a less intellectual format though no less powerfully and meaningfully. It draws from art and spreads its message downward, as a material framing device of the ideal that satisfies not only a need to relate and socialize, but an intuitive grasp of the hope for a better, more ideal existence. In these respects, sport like art necessarily has moral implications which will be developed toward the close of the article with a view to determining the manner in which the ideal shapes both sport (and art).

When one looks at Ibn Khaldun’s works and its relevance to the world we inhabit, his notion of ‘Asabiyah’ must be taken as a very significant theory that can be used to analyze our current situations. The notion of ‘Asabiyah’ or social cohesion is one of the paramount ideas in the works of Ibn Khaldun and the pivotal one through which the society can be understood from Khaldunian perspective. Furthermore, for Ibn Khaldun, ‘Asabiyah’ is the first principle for a well organized society and it is what unites the society together through a common language, customs and common ways of life and purposes. Thus, and from Ibn Khaldun prism, the integrity of any society is fused and connected with the level of its ‘Asabiyah’. Hence, this paper tries to investigate the real causes behind the Arab Spring using Ibn Khaldun’s notion of ‘Asabiyah’. More significantly, it endeavors to divulge the fact that Ibn Khaldun’s theory is still applicable on our current situations in the Arab and Muslim world and even beyond.

Abstract The general education system identifies two approaches for encompassing arts: through the curricular field and through the extracurricular and extra-scholastic aesthetic education. The fields of arts are assigning a sector, an area of activity, a branch or a compartment. In the general education system, the fields of art have been differently formed. As a school subject, art is being studied through literature, music and fine arts. Some of them are not included in the educational plan (theatre, choreography). The statute of arts (literature, music, fine arts) in the educational system is outlined from two perspectives: art as a school subject and art as an artistic activity. The area of art shall not be reduced to a school subject or a type of arts. The artistic education in the educational system corresponds to the aesthetic education compartment and it happens in the extracurricular and extra-scholastic educational framework. According to the classic, traditional theory, the aesthetic education often is reduced to the level of artistic education. An efficient perspective in capitalizing the fields of art through education may be the extension of the artistic education borders outside the aesthetic values, by extra-aesthetic values – behavioral, moral, spiritual, social etc.
