Lectures on local theta correspondence

Chen-Bo Zhu

This set of lecture notes on local theta correspondence is the written version of a mini-course the author gave in March of 2025 for the program ``Representation Theory and Noncommutative Geometry" at the Institut Henri Poincaré, Paris. The emphasis is on the Archimedean theory, which concerns representations of classical Lie groups. Section 1 is about the basic theory, including Howe's Duality Theorem, and the conservation relations. Section 2 highlights the invariant-theoretic nature of local theta correspondence via the proof of the conservation relations. Sections 3 and 4 explain how two fundamental invariants of representations behave under local theta correspondence. The final section discusses applications to unitary representation theory.

Otwarty świat i narracja rozproszona w grze Elden Ring studia FromSoftware

Krzysztof M. Maj

The article Open World and Dispersed Narrative in FromSoftware’s “Elden Ring” tackles a number of design issues associated with open world design in video games. Building upon Tim Ingold’s dis- crepancy of two distinct modes of exploring the reality (wayfaring and trail-following), the author proceeds with analysing how the categories in question might have influenced the design of Elden Ring’s ‘The Lands Between’, which is torn between two different ambitions. One is to create a high fantasy narrative in allotopia, whilst the other is to sustain the principles of procedural rhetoric typical for soulsborne games, well-known for leaning towards a dark fantasy design style both in terms of their aesthetics and narrative content. Consequently, the main goal of this analysis is to propose a potential way of avoiding such inconsequence in open world game design, which is termed here a “ludotopian dissonance”.

Apontamentos sobre as Pesquisas de Jerzy Grotowski e Maud Robart sobre os Cantos Afrodiaspóricos

Luciano Matricardi

Irreducible representation of Plesken Lie algebras

S. N. Arjun, P. G. Romeo

Cohen and Taylor introduced Plesken Lie algebra as certain Lie algebra constructed using finite groups. Arjun and Romeo described the linear representation of these Lie algebras induced from group representation in [1]. Hence the authors posed the question as to what are the irreducible representations of Plesken Lie algebras and describes the irreducible representations of cover of Plesken Lie algebras.

General Identifiability and Achievability for Causal Representation Learning

Burak Varıcı, Emre Acartürk, Karthikeyan Shanmugam et al.

This paper focuses on causal representation learning (CRL) under a general nonparametric latent causal model and a general transformation model that maps the latent data to the observational data. It establishes identifiability and achievability results using two hard uncoupled interventions per node in the latent causal graph. Notably, one does not know which pair of intervention environments have the same node intervened (hence, uncoupled). For identifiability, the paper establishes that perfect recovery of the latent causal model and variables is guaranteed under uncoupled interventions. For achievability, an algorithm is designed that uses observational and interventional data and recovers the latent causal model and variables with provable guarantees. This algorithm leverages score variations across different environments to estimate the inverse of the transformer and, subsequently, the latent variables. The analysis, additionally, recovers the identifiability result for two hard coupled interventions, that is when metadata about the pair of environments that have the same node intervened is known. This paper also shows that when observational data is available, additional faithfulness assumptions that are adopted by the existing literature are unnecessary.

Teresa Megale

The Cuocolo Collection, housed at the Museo Nazionale di San Martino in Naples, is an extraordinary photographic collection, dedicated exclusively to the world of popular theater in Naples in the nineteenth century and especially at the Teatro San Carlino. The essay intends to reconstruct the historical-theatrical events of the Collection, full of eighty-nine shots between portraits and ensemble scenes, and deepen its historical-spectacular meanings. The study is dedicated to this theatre in photographic form, an iconographic finding of exceptional value until now lacking an adequate scientific investigation, continuously subjected to its progressive reduction to fetish.

Bellezza, Felicità e Diversità Culturale

Elena Sinibaldi

The combination of Beauty and Happiness can be bold. The two terms belong to everyday language but their philosophical, sociolinguistic and anthropological heritage is long-standing. The proposal to connect UNESCO thematic tools and visions with the studies proposed by the World Happiness Report, intends to open scenarios for reflection and discussion on the conceptualization and production of "cultural" in the contemporary. Culture, no longer declined only in the definition of heritage, material and immaterial, is influenced by the progressive use of multi-agent technological systems, mediators of representativeness and continuous symbolic and value codification between individuals, groups and contexts. This contribution, in fact, intends to highlight how the structural and relational diversity of cultural expressions is increasingly broadly indexed, in well-being and life-being factors on a global demographic scale.

Educational Policies and Academic Research on Dance in the School in Brazil: a network movement

Josiane Franken Corrêa (Universidade Federal de Pelota s – UFPel, Pelotas/RS, Brazil), Vera Lúcia Bertoni dos Santos (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul – UFRGS, Porto Alegre/RS, Brazil)

The paper aims to map educational policies, official documents and academic works related to Dance in The School to draw an overview, situating the major public initiatives and research involved in the insertion of dance teachers in the school institution within the Brazilian context. This is a documental and bibliometric quali-quantitative work, comprising the period between 1990 and 2017. It is concluded that to analyze the establishment of the academic field in Dance in the School in Brazil, it is necessary to identify actions that influence the development of this practice under the perspective of a systemic and relational view.

Continuous Nakayama Representations

Job D. Rock, Shijie Zhu

We introduce continuous analogues of Nakayama algebras. In particular, we introduce the notion of (pre-)Kupisch functions, which play a role as Kupisch series of Nakayama algebras, and view continuous Nakayama representations as a special type of representation of $\mathbb{R}$ or $\mathbb{S}^1$. We investigate equivalences and connectedness of the categories of Nakayama representations. Specifically, we prove that orientation-preserving homeomorphisms on $\mathbb{R}$ and on $\mathbb{S}^1$ induce equivalences between these categories. Connectedness is characterized by a special type of points called separation points determined by (pre-)Kupisch functions. We also construct an exact embedding from the category of finite-dimensional representations for any finite-dimensional Nakayama algebra, to a category of continuous Nakayama representaitons.

Joanna Pigulak

The paper aims to outline features of video games’ sounds. In order to do that, the author presents the main thesis of ludomusicology and a theory of film music. The first part of the paper deals with a brief introduction concerning the characteristic of two important aspects of video games’ sounds: reactive and anticipating sounds. In the second part of the paper, the author explores the issue of facultative dialogues and adaptive sounds, as well as diegetic and non-diegetic sources of sound. The author examines the hypothesis that using sounds in video games determines gameplay and impacts players immersion.

THEATER AND HEALTH EDUCATION: REPRESENTATION IN SELECT PLAYS OF MAHESH DATTANI

Asoke Howlader, Arindam Modak, Subrata Saha

Theater plays a crucial role to represent the life and manners of a particular society. It acts as an informal tool for developing consciousness and promoting empowerment through education. Contemporary theater in India is no exception to this. It has the efficacy to build critical awareness among common people in general and women in particular. It critiques the social inequality and opens up the scope for bringing consciousness about gendered violence prevalent in contemporary Indian society. From 1970s onwards, the emergence of urbanization and industrialization had offered various opportunities for people irrespective of gender differences. Yet, it could not suppress the ‘other side’ of violence in Indian society. Mahesh Dattani, a pioneer in the world of modern Indian English Theater, is highly regarded as a social critic of contemporary urban life and manners. He sincerely presents dysfunctional families, individual dilemmas and societal problems, and gender issues including forbidden issues in his plays. As a conscious dramatist, Dattani reveals childhood maltreatment in his plays which focus on physical and mental illnesses among victims. He tries to sensitize the common people by representing the impact of discrimination on health as it is seen to be fatal in women. The present paper intends to analyze the impact of gender bias on women’s health as represented by Mahesh Dattani in his plays – “Tara” and “Thirty days in September.” In doing so, it embraces the educational implication of dramas through theater.

Higher representation stability for ordered configuration spaces and twisted commutative factorization algebras

Quoc P. Ho

Using factorization homology with coefficients in twisted commutative algebras (TCAs), we prove two flavors of higher representation stability for the cohomology of (generalized) configuration spaces of a scheme/topological space $X$. First, we provide an iterative procedure to study higher representation stability using actions coming from the cohomology of $X$ and prove that all the modules involved are finitely generated over the corresponding TCAs. More quantitatively, we compute explicit bounds for the derived indecomposables in the sense of Galatius-Kupers-Randal-Williams. Secondly, when certain $C_\infty$-operations on the cohomology of $X$ vanish, we prove that the cohomology of its configuration spaces forms a free module over a TCA built out of the configuration spaces of the affine space. This generalizes a result of Church-Ellenberg-Farb on the freeness of $\mathrm{FI}$-modules arising from the cohomology of configuration spaces of open manifolds and, moreover, resolves the various conjectures of Miller-Wilson under these conditions.

Maia Giacobbe Borelli

Scenes from Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot were employed in Rome to teach Italian to a group of immigrant teenagers in a Public School. The Drama workshop helped to develop a collaborative group of students by encouraging exchanges, friendships and cooperative learning. The workshop became a space of freedom, where to enact peacefully the internal conflicts that arise in immigrant boys and girls when building a new, multi-cultural identity. From my students I learned that theatre could be that common language that enables all of us to weave constructive and meaningful relations between different cultures.
