GREEN FINANCE IN THE CONTEXT OF CLIMATE CHANGE: A BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF THE ACADEMIC LITERATURE (2001–2025)

SPULBAR CRISTI , DUPIR MIHAI CATALIN

This article analyses the evolution, structure, and dynamics of the academic literature on green finance in the context of climate change, using a bibliometric approach applied to publications indexed in the Web of Science – Core Collection for the period 2001–2025. The methodology is based on descriptive and relational bibliometric indicators, including the analysis of scientific production, sources, authors’ impact, co-authorship networks, and keyword co occurrence, complemented by thematic maps and temporal analyses of emerging themes, conducted using the Bibliometrix package within the R environment. The results highlight an accelerated growth of academic interest after 2016, with a concentration of publications in economics and finance journals such as Energy Economics, Finance Research Letters, and International Review of Financial Analysis, as well as a polycentric structure of international collaborations dominated by East Asia and Europe. The conceptual analysis reveals three major thematic clusters: the performance and impact of green investments, energy transition and sustainable economic growth, and systemic risks and financial stability. The emergence of themes such as financial digitalisation, fintech, and artificial intelligence indicates recent directions of research diversification. The article contributes by providing a systematic mapping of a rapidly maturing field and by identifying epistemic gaps, highlighting the need to expand comparative studies, interdisciplinary approaches, and analyses of green finance in emerging and transition economies.

New dynamics in producer-to-consumer price transmission in Spain’s tomato supply chain

Yasmine Bedoui, Zein Kallas, Adrià Menéndez i Molist et al.

Pricing is an essential element that significantly impacts the supply chain mechanisms. The primary objective of this study is to explore the transmission of producer-to-consumer prices in the Spanish fresh tomato industry. Employing the Threshold Vector Autoregressive model, and subsequently utilizing the Generalized Impulse Response Function, we investigated the nonlinear price adjustments that occur in response to positive and negative shocks affecting both tomato prices of consumers and producers. The findings show a clear pattern of distinct reactions between segments in response to shocks. Specifically, the speed and intensity of consumer price responses to producer price shocks appear to surpass those observed when producer prices respond to consumer price shocks. Furthermore, it is evident from the current research that the behavior of producers has evolved from earlier studies that utilized outdated information, suggesting a more competitive approach. The research identifies a new trend in producer behavior within the supply chain. By analyzing tomato price fluctuations, it advances current knowledge and provides essential market insights to support informed decision-making.

MASTAC LAVINIA , FILIP COSMIN , TRANDAFIR RALUCA ANDREEA

The realm of construction is presently experiencing a remarkable metamorphosis, propelled by advancements in technology, economic imperatives, and a growing insistence on sustainability. This study examines the central themes of construction research through a bibliometric approach. The VOSviewer software was used to identify relationships and trends between concepts such as digitalization, innovation, sustainability and cost management. The results indicate an increasing focus on the integration of advanced technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), automation and resource management. The geographical distribution of the research highlights the dominance of countries such as China, the United States and the United Kingdom, alongside emerging contributions from regions such as Malaysia and Hong Kong. Nevertheless, considerable disparities endure, particularly within rising economies. The insufficient allocation of resources towards research and development for small and medium enterprises serves as a significant impediment to the broad embrace of advanced technologies. The study highlights the need for an interdisciplinary approach, where collaboration with fields such as economics, management, ecology and human resources is necessary to maximize the potential of the industry. The study underscores the significance of bespoke public policies and efficacious international collaborations to foster the extensive embrace of innovative technologies and sustainable solutions.

Unique global solution of an integral-differential equation of Footloose Entrepreneur model in new economic geography

Kensuke Ohtake

This paper studies the Footloose Entrepreneur model in new economic geography in continuous space. In an appropriate function space, the model is formulated as an initial value problem for an infinite-dimensional ordinary differential equation. A unique global solution is constructed based on the Banach fixed point theorem. The stability of a homogeneous stationary solution is then investigated and numerical simulations of the asymptotic behavior of the solution are performed. Numerical solutions starting near the unstable homogeneous stationary solution converge to spike-shaped stationary solutions, and the number of spikes decreases with decreasing transport costs and strengthening preference for variety.

A Scoping Review of Earth Observation and Machine Learning for Causal Inference: Implications for the Geography of Poverty

Kazuki Sakamoto, Connor T. Jerzak, Adel Daoud

Earth observation (EO) data such as satellite imagery can have far-reaching impacts on our understanding of the geography of poverty, especially when coupled with machine learning (ML) and computer vision. Early research used computer vision to predict living conditions in areas with limited data, but recent studies increasingly focus on causal analysis. Despite this shift, the use of EO-ML methods for causal inference lacks thorough documentation, and best practices are still developing. Through a comprehensive scoping review, we catalog the current literature on EO-ML methods in causal analysis. We synthesize five principal approaches to incorporating EO data in causal workflows: (1) outcome imputation for downstream causal analysis, (2) EO image deconfounding, (3) EO-based treatment effect heterogeneity, (4) EO-based transportability analysis, and (5) image-informed causal discovery. Building on these findings, we provide a detailed protocol guiding researchers in integrating EO data into causal analysis -- covering data requirements, computer vision model selection, and evaluation metrics. While our focus centers on health and living conditions outcomes, our protocol is adaptable to other sustainable development domains utilizing EO data.

A Perfect Storm: First-Nature Geography and Economic Development

Christian Vedel

In 1825 a storm cut a new channel through Denmark's Limfjord, providing an exogenous shock to first-nature geography. Difference-in-differences estimates show the channel increased trade immediately and, within a generation, lifted population by 26.7 percent - an elasticity of 1.6 relative to the improved market access. Higher fertility and economic growth of new industries, not migration, drove the expansion. A mirror experiment - the waterway's closure circa 1086-1208 - caused symmetric declines in medieval coin and building finds, bolstering external validity. These results offer the first robust causal evidence that first-nature geomorphology shapes the location of economic activity.

DIGITIZING ROMANIAN AGRICULTURE, AN OPPORTUNITY FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

ILIE (MARIN) NICOLETA, TODERASC STEFAN ALIN, OPREA IULIA ALEXANDRA

Digital transformation represents one of the most current points of interest for the European Union. However, in agriculture, is digitalization a reality of the present or just a vision for the future? More and more processes are integrating into modern agriculture as offline and online activities increasingly converge in today's transition to digital agriculture. As the entire process is continuously developing, real opportunities emerge for all countries. A resilient agriculture that offers a secure future, based on minimal resources and sustainability, can only be built through a common concentration of efforts. Digital technologies have the potential to revolutionize agriculture and help farmers work more precisely, efficiently, and sustainably. Perspectives created from concrete data can improve decision-making processes and performance in favor of the environment, making the job itself more attractive to the new generations of farmers. Digital technologies also provide increased transparency for end consumers throughout the distribution chain. The digitalization of Romanian agriculture can represent a turning point towards development at its true capacity, even in the current small-scale context. This paper aims to outline the opportunities and limitations that may arise on the path towards the digitalization of Romanian agriculture.

Towards an entrepreneurial university model: evidence from the Palestine Polytechnic University

Ibrahim M. Awad, Meera Kh. Salaimeh

Abstract This study aims to introduce a proposed model for transforming the Palestine Polytechnic University (PPU) into an entrepreneurial university. Towards that end, a quantitative approach using statistical techniques of t test, ANOVA, Kruskal–Wallis test, and Pairwise comparisons supported by explanatory and qualitative discussions were utilized. The main findings show that the applicability of entrepreneurship at PPU was relatively fair for the aspects of the compatibility of curricula with the labor market needs, community relations and partnerships, academic exchange, entrepreneurship culture, entrepreneurial education, and university internationalization. Entrepreneurship as a policy objective was moderately acceptable for university policies and regulations, scientific research and innovation, and university leadership, but the university environment was less than moderate. The findings also show that the university leadership acknowledges the importance of achieving entrepreneurship, while they pay insufficient attention to the academic exchange. Offering other supportive funding resources can accelerate entrepreneurship. Given that, this study is likely to provide a proposed model to transform PPU into an entrepreneurial university and effectively achieve the university’s pioneering vision that contributes to the university’s development and presents this model to the decision makers.

SEASONAL ADJUSTMENT OF CPI FOR MILLING AND BAKING PRODUCTS MONTHLY EVOLUTION AS AGAINST DECEMBER PREVIOUS YEAR IN ROMANIA – COMPARISON BETWEEN JDEMETRA+ 2.2.4 AND JDEMETRA+ 3.0.0

MIRICĂ ANDREEA, PETCU IONELA-ROXANA

In the present context, the consumption and saving patterns are subjected to change both locally and worldwide. The evidence on consumption reveals the importance of data handling and processing using the most relevant tools available. This research paper looks into official statistics data of Consumer Price Indexes (CPI) for milling and baking products and is based on seasonal adjustment. As such, JDemetra+ software is selected as officially recommended by Eurostat for seasonal adjustment. First section presents the official software recommended by Eurostat for seasonal adjustment, while section two discusses the characteristics and functionalities of the software. Furthermore, the following section presents the selected seasonal adjustment technique and describes the usage of monthly data. Section four analysing the results of all the seasonality tests for the selected series is followed next by a brief concluding remarks and observations section. Moreover, in terms of the conducted analysis, the paper examines to test JDemetra+ 3.0.0 pre-release version against JDemetra+ 2.2.4. Evidence favouring JDemetra+ 2.2.4 is obtained, the results showing that some new strategies might be needed in order to obtain better results on seasonal adjustment process using TRAMO-SEATS in JDemetra+ 3.0.0. Seasonal adjustment practitioners in official statistics should be aware and recognize the impact of statistical package selection. In this respect, optimal selection of analysis procedures is needed in the evaluation of a series and thus migrating from JDemetra+ 2.2.4 to JDemetra+ 3.0.0 is problematic without employing resources in developing appropriate strategies for improvement of the obtained results.

On the geography of $3$-folds via asymptotic behavior of invariants

Yerko Torres-Nova

Roughly speaking, the problem of geography asks for the existence of varieties of general type after we fix some invariants. In dimension $1$, where we fix the genus, the geography question is trivial, but already in dimension $2$, it becomes a hard problem in general. In higher dimensions, this problem is essentially wide open. In this paper, we focus on geography in dimension $3$. We generalize the techniques which compare the geography of surfaces with the geography of arrangements of curves via asymptotic constructions. In dimension $2$ this involves resolutions of cyclic quotient singularities and a certain asymptotic behavior of the associated Dedekind sums and continued fractions. We discuss the general situation with emphasis on dimension $3$, analyzing the singularities and various resolutions that show up, and proving results about the asymptotic behavior of the invariants we fix.

The geography of innovation dynamics

Matteo Straccamore, Vittorio Loreto, Pietro Gravino

Cities and metropolitan areas are major drivers of creativity and innovation in all possible sectors: scientific, technological, social, artistic, etc. The critical concentration and proximity of diverse mindsets and opportunities, supported by efficient infrastructures, enable new technologies and ideas to emerge, thrive, and trigger further innovation. Though this pattern seems well established, geography's role in the emergence and diffusion of new technologies still needs to be clarified. An additional important question concerns the identification of the innovation pathways of metropolitan areas. Here, we explore the factors that influence the spread of technology among metropolitan areas worldwide and how geography and political borders impact this process. Our evidence suggests that political geography has been highly important for the diffusion of innovation till around two decades ago, slowly declining afterwards in favour of a more global innovation ecosystem. Further, the visualisation of the evolution of countries and metropolitan areas in a 2d space of competitiveness and diversification reveals the existence of two main innovation pathways, discriminating between different strategies towards progress. Our work provides insights for policymakers seeking to promote economic growth and technological advancement through tailored investments in prioritarian innovation areas.

Integrating GIS into Hong Kong Secondary School Geography Curriculum

Yin Ching Lai

Hong Kong' senior geography curriculum has included GIS since the early 2000s. However, GIS in secondary schools does not play a significant role in Hong Kong secondary geography education. Analyzing GIS benefits by literature review, it is believed that GIS should be included in both the senior and junior geography curriculum. Moreover, the literature review indicates that without clear instruction from the Hong Kong Education Bureau (EDB), low preparedness of Hong Kong geography teachers, and unsupportive attitudes from academia and textbook publishers, GIS cannot be implemented in secondary schools of Hong Kong. Therefore, suggestions are made for the EDB, geography teachers, academia and textbook publishers to facilitate GIS involvement in senior and junior geography curriculums. The EDB can develop clear guidelines for teachers, academia and textbook publishers' references, and offer student-centered GIS educational courses for teachers. It is important for teachers to be prepared for advanced GIS technology and to even learn along with students. Academics and textbook publishers can provide free GIS maps targeted at Hong Kong' junior and senior geography curriculums. Although the report provides brief information towards the GIS implementation in Hong Kong geography education, it can inspire new ideas from other scholars to facilitate the usage of GIS in Hong Kong secondary school geography teaching.

Innovation through intra and inter-regional interaction in economic geography

José M. Gaspar, Minoru Osawa

We develop a two-region economic geography model with vertical innovations that improve the quality of manufactured varieties produced in each region. The chance of innovation depends on the \emph{related variety}, i.e. the importance of interaction between researchers within the same region rather than across different regions. As economic integration increases from a low level, a higher related variety is associated with more agglomerated spatial configurations. However, if the interaction with foreign scientists is relatively more important for innovation, economic activities may (completely) re-disperse after an initial phase of agglomeration due to the increase in the relative importance of a higher chance of innovation in the less industrialized region. This non-monotonic relationship between economic integration and spatial imbalances may exhibit very diverse qualitative properties, not yet described in the literature.

On the Computational Complexities of Various Geography Variants

Nathan Fox, Carson Geissler

Generalized Geography is a combinatorial game played on a directed graph. Players take turns moving a token from vertex to vertex, deleting a vertex after moving the token away from it. A player unable to move loses. It is well known that the computational complexity of determining which player should win from a given position of Generalized Geography is PSPACE-complete. We introduce several rule variants to Generalized Geography, and we explore the computational complexity of determining the winner of positions of many resulting games. Among our results is a proof that determining the winner of a game known in the literature as Undirected Partizan Geography is PSPACE-complete, even when restricted to being played on a bipartite graph.

MIGRATION TO THE EU: BETWEEN SECURITY AND PROSPERITY

SERGIU-DAN IURIAN

Migration flows are an acute problem for the EU, which has led to a change in EU`s policy not only in the field of security, but in general when it comes to foreign policy. Both EU legislation on the processing asylum applications and the return procedure have been changed, as well as how the EU secures its borders, destabilizes migration routes and seeks to resolve the issue at the source by supporting the creation of a better environment in African and Middle East conflict zones. The purpose of this article is to see to what extent it is or is not profitable to receive and process migrants at EU borders, to accept or remit them, but also to underline EU`s actions to solve the root causes of the migration phenomenon. The EU must focus its efforts on destabilizing migration routes and resolving problems in conflict areas through concentrated action and with de support of other actors involved.
