Dribbling emotions and anxiety in women’s football: a scoping review

Elena-Andreea Trandafirescu, Vladimir Potop, Ilie Mihai et al.

Background and Study Aim. Fear of failure, choking under pressure, financial disparities in income, and concerns related to body image and social pressure may intensify on-field challenges. These factors make the competitive environment particularly demanding for female soccer players. The aim of the current review is to map the available evidence on anxiety in women's football over the past decade and to identify interventions designed to manage anxiety among female soccer players. Material and Methods. A scoping review was conducted following the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. An extensive search was carried out across four major databases for publications dated between 2014 and 2024. Two independent reviewers screened titles and abstracts, followed by full-text screening and data extraction. Any disagreements were resolved by a third researcher. The findings were tabulated and synthesized in a narrative format. The study was pre-registered on the Open Science Framework. Results. The search yielded 2885 unique records. A total of 21 texts were reviewed in full, and the final sample included 14 studies. Some of the records included mentioned modifications to psychosocial interventions, such as Virtual Reality (VR) relaxation sessions, pre-exercise sporting massage, and psychological training programs (including psycho-neuromuscular theory and visualization techniques). These interventions led to a reduction in anxiety, though their effectiveness varied significantly across different approaches. Our results suggest that research on women's football may disproportionately focus on psychological interventions for managing anxiety. This highlights the need for broader investigations into other factors that influence athletes' performance and well-being. Conclusions. This scoping review helps clarify the current landscape of anxiety research in women's soccer. It highlights both promising interventions and gaps in the research over the past decade. Although the body of evidence on anxiety interventions is small, it suggests that psychological interventions may be effective in reducing anxiety among female soccer players.

Families’ experiences of the Low Arousal Approach: a qualitative study

Andrew Austin McDonnell, Andrea Page, Stephanie Bews-Pugh et al.

BackgroundParents and carers supporting a family member presenting with behaviors of concern experience heightened stress. The Low Arousal Approach is a crisis management strategy which recognizes that stress, or physiological arousal, can be expressed through behaviors of concern. This approach aims to equip parents and carers to manage behaviors in a person-centered and non-confrontational way. There is a paucity of published research exploring the experiences of families applying this approach.MethodsSeventeen parents who had received training in the Low Arousal Approach were interviewed to gain their perspectives on supporting their family members using this approach.ResultsThematic analysis revealed themes relating to parental stress, which was related to external pressures, isolation, family stress, and challenges in their caring role. They described encountering negative narratives relating to self-criticism and negative judgments from others. Training in the Low Arousal Approach was related to being empowered through access to evidence, increased confidence, and increased ability to advocate for their family member’s needs. Low Arousal was described as a “lifestyle” that enabled increased coping for the family unit as a whole.Discussion/conclusionFindings indicate that it is vitally important to recognize the views of parents and carers, and these are equally as important as the views of professionals. We must understand parents’ and carers’ needs in order to provide adequate support.

Ulemadan Münevvere Osmanlı Müelliflerinin Yerel Dillere Bakışı (Kürtçe Örneği)

Mesut Arslan

Role of Reference Frames for a Safe Human–Robot Interaction

Alberto Borboni, Roberto Pagani, Samuele Sandrini et al.

Safety plays a key role in human–robot interactions in collaborative robot (cobot) applications. This paper provides a general procedure to guarantee safe workstations allowing human operations, robot contributions, the dynamical environment, and time-variant objects in a set of collaborative robotic tasks. The proposed methodology focuses on the contribution and the mapping of reference frames. Multiple reference frame representation agents are defined at the same time by considering egocentric, allocentric, and route-centric perspectives. The agents are processed to provide a minimal and effective assessment of the ongoing human–robot interactions. The proposed formulation is based on the generalization and proper synthesis of multiple cooperating reference frame agents at the same time. Accordingly, it is possible to achieve a real-time assessment of the safety-related implications through the implementation and fast calculation of proper safety-related quantitative indices. This allows us to define and promptly regulate the controlling parameters of the involved cobot without velocity limitations that are recognized as the main disadvantage. A set of experiments has been realized and investigated to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the research by using a seven-DOF anthropomorphic arm in combination with a psychometric test. The acquired results agree with the current literature in terms of the kinematic, position, and velocity aspects; use measurement methods based on tests provided to the operator; and introduce novel features of work cell arranging, including the use of virtual instrumentation. Finally, the associated analytical–topological treatments have enabled the development of a safe and comfortable measure to the human–robot relation with satisfactory experimental results compared to previous research. Nevertheless, the robot posture, human perception, and learning technologies would have to apply research from multidisciplinary fields such as psychology, gesture, communication, and social sciences in order to be prepared for positioning in real-world applications that offer new challenges for cobot applications.

Marcos Roberto Nunes Costa

Linear vector models of time perception account for saccade and stimulus novelty interactions

Amirhossein Ghaderi, Matthias Niemeier, John Douglas Crawford

Various models (e.g., scalar, state-dependent network, and vector models) have been proposed to explain the global aspects of time perception, but they have not been tested against specific visual phenomena like perisaccadic time compression and novel stimulus time dilation. Here, in two separate experiments (N = 31), we tested how the perceived duration of a novel stimulus is influenced by 1) a simultaneous saccade, in combination with 2) a prior series of repeated stimuli in human participants. This yielded a novel behavioral interaction: pre-saccadic stimulus repetition neutralizes perisaccadic time compression. We then tested these results against simulations of the above models. Our data yielded low correlations against scalar model simulations, high but non-specific correlations for our feedforward neural network, and correlations that were both high and specific for a vector model based on identity of objective and subjective time. These results demonstrate the power of global time perception models in explaining disparate empirical phenomena and suggest that subjective time has a similar essence to time's physical vector.

Kajian Teologis Terhadap Otoritas Ibu dalam Peran Membentuk Karakter Anak pada Keluarga Batak

Riris Johanna Siagian, Elfrida Siburian

Communication Styles and Attention Performance in Primary School Children

Gabriel G. de la Torre, Miguel A. Ramallo, Sara Gonzalez-Torre et al.

Communication styles are the three communication patterns that result from merging the verbal elements of communication, the non-verbal elements and the paraverbal elements. The objective of this study was to test what effect different communication styles have on attention performance in primary school children. We administered the assertive behavior scale for children (CABS), the symbol digit modalities test (SDMT) and the d2 attention test to a sample of 77 participants of primary school. A statistically significant and proportional correlation was found between the assertive communication style and the total number of correct answers of the SDMT. We also found positive correlations between the assertive communication style and d2 attention test performance. Children with an assertive communication style have better attention performance than children with passive or aggressive communication styles.

Meeting unmet needs following minor stroke: the SUN randomised controlled trial protocol

Emma Finch, Michele Foster, Tegan Cruwys et al.

Abstract Background Whilst there are comprehensive guidelines for the rehabilitation of people with severe impairments from stroke, there has been less attention on the health and rehabilitation needs of people with minor stroke. Our study will assess whether a new multi-component service pathway using an integrated model based around primary care will reduce unmet need following minor stroke compared with usual care 1 and 3 months post-hospital discharge. Methods One hundred ten patients with minor stroke will be recruited within a parallel, randomised controlled trial design comparing a new service pathway and usual care. The new service pathway will comprise a self-management kit, customised General Practitioner checklist, and a series of minor stroke educational topics. Participants will complete assessments pre-hospital discharge and 1 and 3 months later. The primary outcome measure will be the Survey of Unmet Needs and Service Usage. Secondary outcome measures will include assessments of ability, adjustment and participation; social group connectedness; return to work; health-related quality of life; and perceptions of the new service pathway (intervention group only). Mixed model repeated measures will be used to analyse within and between group differences at each time point. Return to work will be analysed using Chi square tests. Perceptions of the new service pathway will be analysed qualitatively. Dissemination of results The project will produce an evidence-based, multicomponent service pathway for minor stroke patients, applicable to other health services nationally and internationally. Dissemination will include publications and presentations. Trial registration Prospectively registered - Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ACTRN12619000133134p) 30 January 2019.

The Cosmic Script

Tammy Gaber

This cloth-bound, large-format book set is a quest to understand and apply the contents of a groundbreaking fourth/tenth-century treatise that reformed Arabic penmanship and established the canon of calligraphy applied to this day. Muhamad ibn Ali ibn Muqla’s treatise The Proportioned Script acts as the esoteric center of a riddle not unlike the unraveling of a lost book through other books as seen in Umberto Echo’s The Name of the Rose. In this case, The Proportioned Script is but a succinct treatise, for Ibn Muqla’s two explanatory manuscripts detailing the proportions and methods are lost – and can only be retraced through subsequent studies and drawn reconstruction. Why such a monumental effort to unravel a single small treatise on Arabic penmanship? As the authors explain, it was and is the canon of proportion in writing and reveals a great deal about the sociocultural context and the importance of script related to faith. Hence the title of the book. The Cosmic Script is clearly the result of significant research. The two authors met over four decades ago, during which Moustafa completed an MA and a PhD on the subject. They collaborated for eight years on unraveling The Proportioned Script through other sources and reconstructed the canon of letters by a detailed geometric analysis and Moustafa’s own artistic practice of application. The first volume includes an introduction and seven chapters outlining the historical and spiritual background of the Arabic script in terms of ancient pre-Islamic influences. The second volume contains an introduction and twenty-one chapters, of which nineteen cover the specific letter families and outline sources and specific graphics for each letter’s formulation. “Decoding the “Geometry of Letters,” the introduction to the first volume, describes Ibn Muqla as having invented the theory of proportioned script that transformed this art form and had a significant impact upon the culture of the Abbasid era and beyond. He derived his system from the scribal dot (square in form, on an angle) and thus, according to the authors, linked prophecy, writing, and geometry with the sacred dimensions. The elevated rank of the pen and writing were underscored by the first revealed Qur’anic verses and the sacred status of the physical Qur’an. The authors argued that geometry bridged ...

Human Dignity in Law – A Case Study of the Polish Legal System

Magdalena Butrymowicz

Human dignity is one of the most fundamental ideas in the entire international human rights system. As from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in 1948, the concept of the human dignity become used as a tool to protect the basic needs of humans. The other formal instruments of international human rights also make reference to dignity. Whereas international law widely accepted the inherence of dignity, controversies still arise around the source of the dignity. Polish lawmakers, on the other hand, have no doubt about the fact the concept of dignity comes from natural law. Poland, in her Constitution, refers to the teaching of John Paul II about the source, value and meaning of human dignity. There is no doubt that concept of human dignity, even when it is controversial, is the most widely accepted by all religions and political society in the world.

Оn thesis by hieromonk Methodius (Stanislav Anatolyevich Zenkovsky) “Orthodox theology of personality: Origins, Present and Prospects for Development”

Andrey Yur’evich Grigorenko

The text is a review on the thesis, presented for the degree of Doctor of theology. It is dedicated to an actual theme — the problem of the personality which prototype is God Himself. The study of the priest topics that are quite popular in the academic philosophical community are discussed (for example, questions of apophatic and cataphatic theology, themes of Christian individualismus, and other axiological problems). The reviewer gives an overview of the content of the thesis, shares his critical observations and, in general, assumes the work as of good quality, that could promote mutual enrichment of theology and secular scholarship.

Psychology oblivious to psychology: Some limits on our capacity for processing psychology in society

Ole Jacob Madsen

George A. Miller’s presidential address to the American Psychological Association in 1969 urged psychologists “to give psychology away” in order to solve social problems related to human health and welfare, and has since become a standard reference for calls for social responsibility. But Miller also envisioned a psychological revolution that would ultimately change humankind’s concept of itself. In the decades that followed, according to numerous historical studies, psychology’s influence was vital to the conduct of self-governing that resulted in a globalised therapeutic culture. Yet, professional psychology’s self-perception, in Norway and around the world, continues to rest on the modernist assumption of psychology being something underrepresented and external to society. I argue that the psychological revolution that Miller foresaw should lead responsible professionals to revise the ethical framework; in fact, the moral justice of “taking psychology away” should now be seriously considered.
