Abstract This informative statement on the organization, history, and achievements of the Western Forestry and Conservation Association was presented by its secretary at the annual dinner of the Columbia River Section, Society of American Foresters, at Portland, Ore., Dec. 7, 1944. The comment by which it is followed records the impromptu remarks on E. T. Allen and the Association made by Mr. Keen on the same occasion.

Abstract For 300 years the Roosevelt family and its predecessors have practiced a simple form of forestry on lands which now compose the Hyde Park Estate. The President has underscored his interest in forestry as a national undertaking by setting an example in the management of his family forests--800 acres of natural growth and 250 acres of plantations. The latest cutting contributed much-needed oak and shipbuilding timbers to the war program.
