The study focuses on the development of semantic processing in children through the lens of the Disney animated movie “inside out” by Pete Docter and Ronnie Del Carmen. Semantic processing is a basic aspect of human knowledge of language processing that enables to extract meaning from the words and to comprehend the intended information conveyed by others. The movie “Inside Out” depicts the story of an 11-year-old girl named Riley and the personification of her emotion Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust as they navigate her life experiences. By analyzing the movie’s plot, characters and dialogues, the study investigates (1) how children’s semantic processing develops over time, (2) how it relates to the ability to understand abstract concepts and how it can impact children’s emotional development. (3) What role do metaphors and analogies play in the semantic development of children depicted in the movie. The goals of this study are to investigate the content, characters, and themes of the movie, to analyze the use of metaphors and analogies in the movie and to explore the relationship between the development of semantic processing and children's emotional advancement. The present study used mixed method to provide a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon. The study targeted two different age groups i.e. 5-8 years and 9-12 years to calculate the impact of age on the development of semantic processing. The findings indicate that the movie “Inside Out” successfully engaged the children in reflecting on and succussing their understanding of emotions. Participants demonstrated and enhanced awareness of the importance and complexity of emotions. Also, it provides insight into how animated movies can be used as a tool to promote semantic development in children’s emotional advancement and inform the development of educational materials that can facilitate semantic processing in children.

The Translation-Editing-Proofreading (TEP) model is an established approach for ensuring the quality of translation services in the translation industry. However, when the TEP process is replicated in a crowdsourcing context, new factors influence its effectiveness. To address this issue, this article, based on Engeström's activity theory, provides a theoretical account of those factors that influence the TEP process reproduced in Global Voices Lingua. The article then presents two interrelated empirical studies on (1) Lingua volunteers' profiles and motivations and (2) Chinese Lingua editors' revisions to explain how to examine whether unfavourable influences exist in practice. The results reveal that for the Lingua project as a whole, the volunteers' ability and motivational tendencies do not produce substantial adverse effects. Likewise, the Chinese revisions seem to be adequate to guarantee the desired quality although Lingua's language communities may display different scenarios. Further empirical investigation of other aspects (e.g. the adequacy of the translator's work and translator-editor interactions) is still needed to evaluate the replication of the TEP model in Global Voices Lingua more precisely.

Nazi Concentration Camp Vocabulary in Oral Interpreting in the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in the Opinion of Interpreters and Spanish-Speaking Visitors
The article presents some of the results obtained as part of multi-stage research project that was carried out in 2018-2020. Its purpose was to collect information on interpreting performed for visitors at the Auschwitz- Birkenau State Museum. The article discusses the difficulty of translating the camp vocabulary when performing the above-mentioned interpreting. Thirty interpreters shared their views on the oral translation as well as 96 visitors, for whom the information during the tour was provided by a Spanish speaking interpreter.

The Arabic grammar tradition is one of the most important linguistic schools in history- a school whose achievements in many cases are as important as the achievements of the modern linguistic studies. The present study, by explaining the conformity of the threefold divisions of the verbal mood (declarative, subjunctive, and imperative) with the triple subdivision of the verbs into marfu’, mansub and majzum in Arabic grammar, attempts to explain how the Arabic language grammarians have described the functions of subjunctive mood through the elements they have referred to. The results of this study indicate that Sibawayhi, the leader of the school of Basra and the writer of the oldest book on the Arabic grammar, has been aware of the role of realis/irrealis distinction in the uses of the mansub (subjunctive) and marfu’ (declarative). Moreover, through some of his comments, it is possible to derive the importance of the speaker’s view in determining whether or not the proposition is definite. On the other hand, the study reveals how al-Farra, the most prominent grammarian of the Kufa School, has emphasized the role of time and temporal implications in explaining the applications of the subjunctive mood. Subsequent grammarians, following their syntactic views, have supplemented this discussion and, for instance, have mentioned the distinction between absolute time and relative time to determine temporal implications of the present subjunctive mood. Currently, linguists without having access to the findings of this tradition, have discovered the importance of these two components in the applications of the subjunctive mood; On the basis of the findings of the present study, such an achievement can be traced its origin back to more than a thousand years ago in the books of Arabic grammarians.

As each and every language learner is subject to assessment, a sound and valid assessment plays a pivotal role in foreign language education. This study focuses on how assessment is perceived by English as a foreign language (EFL) students in the Turkish EFL context with the participation of 481 EFL students from 24 K-12 level schools and 8 universities. A mixed-methods research design was adopted, and the data were collected through a questionnaire, follow-up interview, and observation. The results showed that the students were not satisfied with the assessment practices and they did not feel like they were assessed. It was also observed that the traditional approach focusing on the formal properties of English was commonly practiced while assessing the students. Moreover, it was found that the assessment quality in the schools was low and it was taken as a formal requirement to grade students. The final part of the paper suggests the need for a comprehensive teacher-training in assessment to increase the assessment literacy of English teachers.

The recording of “Papa Minta Saham“conversation captured the Indonesian society’s attention in the end of 2015. It recorded the conversation between SN and MR profiteering the name of President Jokowi. In addition, another topic of conversation such as both SN and MR’s perception about President Jokowi was also revealed in this recording. This research aims to analyze the perception of SN and MR about President Jokowi’s character. Applying descriptive qualitative method, the language contained in the “Papa Minta Saham” recording was used as the research object. The data and data source were the transcript document and the recording conversation of “Papa Minta Saham”. This research used discourse analysis. The findings showed diverse negative perceptions regarding President Jokowi’s character: stubborn (koppig), difficult to build a mutual understanding, a high level of ego, strong determination, tough and dangerous. Apart from these negative characters, Jokowi is also considered as a kind and brave type of person. Based on the findings, there is an indication that public perception towards President Jokowi’s characters could be different from that of SN and MR. Politicians also speak language containing various strategies that prove the distinction between their public speech and their actual speech. Politicians could change their negative perceptions into positive perceptions as well as their languages to accommodate their interests.
Key words: perception discourse analysis, Papa Minta Saham transcript, perception of President Jokowi

Jane Austen sells. She sells in all possible ways, her novels have been adapted for the cinema and the stage, they have been rewritten as comics and graphic novels. Jane austen is a cultural icon. The interest in her life is so strong that many biographies have been written in order to recover new facts and details. The places where she has lived and the places depicted in her novels have become tourist sites for literary pilgrims. Austen is a cross-over phenomenon, with regency costume balls recreated in her name and an endless proliferation of her works in all media. My essay will investigate Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2009), a mash-up novel which has become a real cultural phenomenon of the last decade and will demonstrate how it can be considered a serial narrative. If as Henry Jenkins asserts, seriality implies the unfolding of a story over time through a process of “chunking” (that is creating meaningful parts of the same story) and of “dispersal” (that is breaking the story into more parts and in more genres and media), mash-ups seems to do this. Austen’s story remains as a “story hook” which pushes the reader to come back to different products for a continuation of the same story. So, if on the one hand, seriality occurs within the same text, the story-telling of Austen’s stories across genres and media is part of a seriality process.

The present research tries to show how race, class, and gender and intersectionality in general, have their decisive impact on the black- American women; and how Alice Walker as a womanist, in her selected short stories, tries to show that black women in the U.S. suffer two-fold acts of oppression and discrimination, i.e. male violence affects all women in social life, irrespective of age or social standing, and at the same time being black has exacerbated the black American women’s situation. In the present study, the mentioned socio-political, socio-cultural and institutionalized intersectionality have been analyzed from the perspective of Alice Walker’s selected short stories. Full analysis have been carried out, from applied linguistic point of view, in Alice Walker’s “Everyday Use” and “Roselily” while Alice Walker’s other short stories have been consulted for further analysis and discussion. The method used to analyze the data is descriptive research method.

Straipsnyje pateikiamas kokybinio tyrimo fragmentas. Būsimieji pedagogai iš Erasmus intensyviosios programos projekto „Europos modernizacija rengiant pedagogus novatoriš- kai“(toliau – IP) iš septynių Europos universitetų: Cá Foscari universiteto (Italija), Nanto universiteto (Prancūzija), Kipro universiteto (Kipras), Aarhus universiteto (Danija), Krokuvos Jogailos universiteto (Lenkija), Eötvös Loránd Universiteto (Vengrija) ir Tirolio žemės Pedagoginio universiteto (Austrija), atvykę į Lietuvą, vykdė etnografinį tyrimą. IP dalyvių pildomi dienoraščiai atspindėjo skirtingų kultūrų elgesio, jausenos ir galvosenos atstovų 15 sąlyčio taškų interpretacijas. Vienas svarbiausių sąlyčio taškų – laiko samprata – ir aptariama šiame straipsnyje.
