Lishu: A Real-Source Research Workbench for Elite Business Journal Search, Analysis, and Writing Support

Chuang Zhao, Hongke Zhao, Yichen Li

This paper presents Lishu, a deployable web artifact for searching, monitoring, and interpreting literature from elite business and management journals. The system integrates the UTD-24 and Financial Times 50 (FT50) journal pools and combines Crossref, OpenAlex, Unpaywall, and optional CORE enrichment to support a broader research workflow than article retrieval alone. In the current implementation, users can search across curated journal pools, apply multi-journal filters, preview open full-text excerpts when available, generate citations and exports, inspect topic and affiliation structure, produce review drafts, simulate virtual peer review, and assemble grant-oriented research narratives. Unlike static journal directories or general-purpose academic search engines, the artifact is explicitly scoped to high-status management outlets and is designed to support sensemaking tasks that matter to researchers, doctoral students, and lab managers: identifying recent work, surfacing topical concentration, comparing themes, and converting search output into actionable research material. Architecturally, the system emphasizes source transparency, modularity, and low-cost public deployability through a lightweight Node.js service layer, a multi-page client interface, optional large-language-model enhancement for interpretation and writing support, and a free-tier persistence path through Supabase. The paper contributes both a functioning design artifact and an extensible architectural pattern for journal-pool-specific scholarly discovery and writing support, with implications for digital research infrastructure in information systems and business scholarship.

Rolling Element Bearing Fault Detection and Diagnosis with One-Dimensional Convolutional Neural Network

Barathan Pubalan, Muhammad Arif Aiman Jidin, Mohd Syahril Ramadhan Mohd Saufi et al.

Rolling element bearings are critical components in rotating machinery, and their condition significantly influences system performance, reliability, and operational lifespan. Timely and accurate fault detection is essential to prevent unexpected failures and reduce maintenance costs. Traditional diagnostic methods often rely on manual feature extraction and shallow classifiers, which may be inadequate for capturing the complex patterns embedded in raw vibration signals. In this study, a compact one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D CNN) is developed for automated bearing fault diagnosis using raw time-domain vibration data, eliminating the need for manual feature engineering. The model is trained and evaluated on two established benchmark datasets: the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) dataset and the Paderborn University (PU) dataset. The CWRU data were segmented based on four distinct motor load conditions (0 HP to 3 HP), with each load scenario trained and tested independently to ensure strict separation and prevent data leakage. The CNN achieved high average test accuracies of 99.14%, 98.85%, 97.42%, and 95.14% for 0 HP, 1 HP, 2 HP, and 3 HP, respectively. On the PU dataset, known for its naturally induced faults and greater operational variability the model achieved a robust average testing accuracy of 95.63%. These results affirm the model ability to generalize across datasets and varying operating conditions. Further improvements were observed through hyperparameter tuning, particularly window length and training epochs, underscoring the importance of tailored configurations for specific datasets and load conditions. Overall, the proposed method demonstrates the effectiveness and scalability of 1D CNNs for real-time, data-driven bearing fault diagnosis, offering a reliable foundation for condition monitoring in industrial applications.

The impact of accrual earnings management on the firm's market value: Mediating role of government ownership and social responsibility disclosure

Alireza Habibi, Maryam Emamimibody

This paper explores the role of CSR disclosure and government ownership in the effect of accrual earnings management on the company's market value. Data from 173 companies admitted to the Tehran Stock Exchange for the period 2013-2022 were used to test the hypotheses, and robustness tests were used to ensure the model estimation results and to identify the model estimation method. Based on the obtained results, research models have been estimated as a panel with fixed effects. It was determined that Accrual earnings management has had a negative and significant effect on the market value of companies listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange. The role of CSR disclosure in the effect of accrual earnings management on the company's market value has been positive and significant. Also, the role of government ownership has a positive and significant effect on the market value of the company as a result of accrual earnings management, and the simultaneous role of state ownership and CSR disclosure has a positive and significant effect on the company's market value as a result of accrual earnings management. The results of the hypotheses are in line with the representation theory and confirm the positive and meaningful role of government ownership and disclosure of social responsibility. The results of the study provide a new insight into the role of government ownership and CSR disclosure in the effect of accrual earnings management on the value of the company in the Tehran Stock Exchange market as the capital market of Iran. This paper highlights the importance of considering country-specific factors such as government ownership while analyzing market reactions to CSR disclosure and accrual earnings management.

ANALYSIS OF THE EFFICIENCY OF BANKS IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA BASED ON DEA AND SFA METHODS

Slađana Paunović, Dajana Kovačević

This paper analyzes the efficiency of banks in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2023 using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Stochastic Frontier methods (SFA). The aim of the research is to measure the efficiency of banks in generating income, using variables such as total assets, number of employees and operating expenses as inputs, and interest and non-interest income as outputs. The results show that both methods produce similar average efficiency indices throughout the observed period. However, the analysis of the ranks indicates inconsistency in the assessment of efficiency at the level of individual banks. This suggests that while these methods provide stable insights into the overall efficiency of the banking sector, they become inconsistent when applied to individual banks.

Automating Execution and Verification of BPMN+DMN Business Processes

Giuseppe Della Penna, Igor Melatti

The increasing and widespread use of BPMN business processes, also embodying DMN tables, requires tools and methodologies to verify their correctness. However, most commonly used frameworks to build BPMN+DMN models only allow designers to detect syntactical errors, thus ignoring semantic (behavioural) faults. This forces business processes designers to manually run single executions of their BPMN+DMN processes using proprietary tools in order to detect failures. Furthermore, how proprietary tools translate a BPMN+DMN process to a computer simulation is left unspecified. In this paper, we advance this state of the art by designing a tool, named BDTransTest providing: i) a translation from a BPMN + DMN process B to a Java program P ; ii) the synthesis and execution of a testing plan for B, that may require the business designer to disambiguate some input domain; iii) the analysis of the coverage achieved by the testing plan in terms of nodes and edges of B. Finally, we provide an experimental evaluation of our methodology on BPMN+DMN processes from the literature.

Geeta N. Brijwani, Prafulla E Ajmire, Mohammad Atique Mohammad Junaid et al.

Integrating blockchain technology into healthcare systems presents a transformative approach to documenting, storing, and accessing electronic health records (EHRs). This research introduces a novel blockchain-based EHR system designed to significantly enhance security, scalability, and accessibility compared to existing solutions. Current systems primarily utilize SHA-256 for security and either IPFS or centralized storage, which, while effective, have limitations in providing comprehensive data integrity and security. The proposed system leverages a hybrid security algorithm combining Argon2 and AES and integrates a hybrid storage and consensus mechanism utilizing IPFS and PBFT. This multifaceted approach ensures robust encryption, efficient consensus, and high fault tolerance. Furthermore, the system incorporates Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to safeguard against unauthorized access. It utilizes advanced blockchain tools like MetaMask, Ganache, and Truffle to facilitate seamless interaction with the decentralized network. Simulation results demonstrate that this system offers superior protection against data breaches and enhances operational efficiency. Specifically, the proposed hybrid model substantially improves data integrity, consensus efficiency, fault tolerance, data availability, latency, bandwidth utilization, throughput, memory usage, and CPU usage across various healthcare applications. To validate the performance and security of the proposed system, comprehensive analyses were conducted using real-world healthcare scenarios. The findings highlight the significant advantages of the blockchain-based EHR system, emphasizing its potential to revolutionize healthcare data management by ensuring secure, reliable, and efficient handling of sensitive medical information.

The Danger Within: Insider Threat Modeling Using Business Process Models

Jan von der Assen, Jasmin Hochuli, Thomas Grübl et al.

Threat modeling has been successfully applied to model technical threats within information systems. However, a lack of methods focusing on non-technical assets and their representation can be observed in theory and practice. Following the voices of industry practitioners, this paper explored how to model insider threats based on business process models. Hence, this study developed a novel insider threat knowledge base and a threat modeling application that leverages Business Process Modeling and Notation (BPMN). Finally, to understand how well the theoretic knowledge and its prototype translate into practice, the study conducted a real-world case study of an IT provider's business process and an experimental deployment for a real voting process. The results indicate that even without annotation, BPMN diagrams can be leveraged to automatically identify insider threats in an organization.

Crowdsourced data indicates broadband has a positive impact on local business creation

Yifeng Philip Chen, Edward J. Oughton, Jakub Zagdanski et al.

Broadband connectivity is regarded as generally having a positive macroeconomic effect, but we lack evidence as to how it affects key economic activity metrics, such as firm creation, at a very local level. This analysis models the impact of broadband Next Generation Access (NGA) on new business creation at the local level over the 2011-2015 period in England, United Kingdom, using high-resolution panel data. After controlling for a range of factors, we find that faster broadband speeds brought by NGA technologies have a positive effect on the rate of business growth. We find that in England between 2011-2015, on average a one percentage increase in download speeds is associated with a 0.0574 percentage point increase in the annual growth rate of business establishments. The primary hypothesised mechanism behind the estimated relationship is the enabling effect that faster broadband speeds have on innovative business models based on new digital technologies and services. Entrepreneurs either sought appropriate locations that offer high quality broadband infrastructure (contributing to new business establishment growth), or potentially enjoyed a competitive advantage (resulting in a higher survival rate). The findings of this study suggest that aspiring to reach universal high capacity broadband connectivity is economically desirable, especially as the costs of delivering such service decline.

Державне регулювання розвитку інфраструктури цифрової економіки: сутність та особливості реалізації

Dmytro Kotelevets

Modelling Business Agreements in the Multimodal Transportation Domain through Ontological Smart Contracts

Mario Scrocca, Marco Comerio, Alessio Carenini et al.

The blockchain technology provides integrity and reliability of the information, thus offering a suitable solution to guarantee trustability in a multi-stakeholder scenario that involves actors defining business agreements. The Ride2Rail project investigated the use of the blockchain to record as smart contracts the agreements between different stakeholders defined in a multimodal transportation domain. Modelling an ontology to represent the smart contracts enables the possibility of having a machine-readable and interoperable representation of the agreements. On one hand, the underlying blockchain ensures trust in the execution of the contracts, on the other hand, their ontological representation facilitates the retrieval of information within the ecosystem. The paper describes the development of the Ride2Rail Ontology for Agreements to showcase how the concept of an ontological smart contract, defined in the OASIS ontology, can be applied to a specific domain. The usage of the designed ontology is discussed by describing the modelling as ontological smart contracts of business agreements defined in a ride-sharing scenario.

Records management in government schools in South Africa: a case study in Limpopo province

Samuel Maredi Mojapelo

Purpose This study aims to investigate records management in selected government schools in South Africa. Design/methodology/approach The study adopted a qualitative research approach to collect in-depth data from the principals or administrators working as records managers at the school level. In all, a sample of principals and administrators from seven schools were interviewed face-to-face to enable the researcher to visit the schools in person. Findings The findings indicate that although the principals or administrators make concerted efforts to manage school records, there is no uniform system in place for this purpose. This results in haphazard record keeping and records management at the schools. The study recommends that the Department of Basic Education in Limpopo develop a file plan or model for schools to use to manage records uniformly in a standardised manner that would support accountability, transparency and good governance. Research limitations/implications The study was limited to seven primary schools in Lebopo Circuit, Limpopo province and secondary schools were excluded. Practical implications The author obtained a thorough understanding and direct insight into how principals or administrators manage school records. This study makes recommendations for the effective management of records in government schools. Originality/value This is one of the few research papers on records management in government schools in South Africa.

Sometimes, green is the outcome: climate action in records management and archives in Canada

Lois M. Evans

Purpose The paper aims to respond to three questions: Are Canadian organizations committed to sustainability? Are there any links between sustainability and records management and archives programs? And, to what extent are records managers, archivists and technologists engaged in climate action? The paper also provides background on climate change in the Canadian and global contexts, defines relevant terminology, and presents a literature review that positions sustainability, adaptation and mitigation in relation to records management and archives. Design/methodology/approach The paper is based on qualitative participatory research involving expert interviews in 24 government agencies, universities and businesses located in 10 Canadian cities. Findings The organizations in the study are committed to sustainability and have developed significant programs and activities in support of this aim. Although the records managers, archivists and technologists interviewed are involved in related activities, there is a gap between what they are doing as a matter of course and the wider sustainability efforts of their parent organizations. As resources are tight, sustainability measurement entails more work and there are no real incentives to add sustainability components to programs, the participants are focused on delivering the programs they are hired to do. As a result, there is a sense of serendipity around outcomes that do occur – “sometimes, green is the outcome”. Research limitations/implications This paper presents the results of research conducted at 24 organizations in 10 Canadian cities, a small but meaningful sample that provides a springboard for considering climate action in records and archives. Based on the discussion, there is a need for a records and archives agenda that directly responds the United Nation's climate action targets: strengthening resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters; integrating climate change measures into policies, strategies and planning; and improving education, awareness-raising and human institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning. In support of this aim, the paper charts possible material topics from the literature and compares these with research findings. Practical implications From a top-down perspective, organizations need to expand sustainability programs to address all business areas, including records and archives. From a bottom-up perspective, records managers and archivists should include adaptation in disaster planning and consider the program benefits of developing economic, environmental and social sustainability initiatives to mitigate climate change. Originality/value The paper defines resilience, sustainability, adaption and mitigation and positions these terms in records management and archives. The paper examines how records managers, archivists and technologists think about sustainability; where sustainability intersects with records and archives work; and how records managers and archivists can engage in climate action.

Development of a Conceptual Framework for Effective Quality Management Practices in Construction Organisations

E Odiba, P Demian, K Ruikar

Effective quality management practices are critical to successful project delivery. However, the quality challenges in developing countries such as Nigeria, which is the focus of this research, have been a concern to construction practitioners and other interested parties such as clients and regulatory bodies. Some scholars suggest that part of these challenges can be attributed to ineffective quality management systems; thus, leading to consequences such as building collapse, poor organisational/industry reputation, poor/lack of traceability, poor documentation process, and lack of planned audit. This research aims to develop a contextual model that is intended to improve the culture of quality that can facilitate effective quality management practices in construction organisations in Nigeria. A mixed (quantitative and qualitative) methodological approach was deployed based on a pragmatic research philosophy paradigm. A questionnaire (quantitative) survey was adopted to gather data and results from the data analysis and reviewed literature were discussed, and the findings supported the development of a conceptual quality management model in construction as the outcome of this research. The designed model comprises eight integrated components. The model is a quality system that construction organisations can use: to identify some typical barriers hindering effective QMSs implementation; to assist them to develop cultural values that can drive effective QMSs implementation; to undertake effective QMSs practices as they relate to construction, and to recognise the potential results and longer-term benefits obtainable from implementing effective QMSs. The model was evaluated and validated by professional construction practitioners and academic experts for its usefulness and applicability. Future study should focus on the practical validation of the model. Keywords: ISO 9001; Quality Management Practices; Quality Management System.
