Entanglement in quantum critical phenomena.

G. Vidal, José I. Latorre, E. Rico et al.

Entanglement, one of the most intriguing features of quantum theory and a main resource in quantum information science, is expected to play a crucial role also in the study of quantum phase transitions, where it is responsible for the appearance of long-range correlations. We investigate, through a microscopic calculation, the scaling properties of entanglement in spin chain systems, both near and at a quantum critical point. Our results establish a precise connection between concepts of quantum information, condensed matter physics, and quantum field theory, by showing that the behavior of critical entanglement in spin systems is analogous to that of entropy in conformal field theories. We explore some of the implications of this connection.

Reference frames, superselection rules, and quantum information

S. Bartlett, T. Rudolph, R. Spekkens

Recently, there has been much interest in a new kind of 'unspeakable' quantum information that stands to regular quantum information in the same way that a direction in space or a moment in time stands to a classical bit string: the former can only be encoded using particular degrees of freedom while the latter are indifferent to the physical nature of the information carriers. The problem of correlating distant reference frames, of which aligning Cartesian axes and synchronizing clocks are important instances, is an example of a task that requires the exchange of unspeakable information and for which it is interesting to determine the fundamental quantum limit of efficiency. There have also been many investigations into the information theory that is appropriate for parties that lack reference frames or that lack correlation between their reference frames, restrictions that result in global and local superselection rules. In the presence of these, quantum unspeakable information becomes a new kind of resource that can be manipulated, depleted, quantified, etc. Methods have also been developed to contend with these restrictions using relational encodings, particularly in the context of computation, cryptography, communication, and the manipulation of entanglement. This paper reviews the role of reference framesmore » and superselection rules in the theory of quantum-information processing.« less

A Theory of Demand Shocks

G. Lorenzoni

This paper presents a model of business cycles driven by shocks to consumer expectations regarding aggregate productivity. Agents are hit by heterogeneous productivity shocks, they observe their own productivity and a noisy public signal regarding aggregate productivity. The shock to this public signal, or "news shock," has the features of an aggregate demand shock: it increases output, employment and inflation in the short run and has no effects in the long run. The dynamics of the economy following an aggregate productivity shock are also affected by the presence of imperfect information: after a productivity shock output adjusts gradually to its higher long-run level, and there is a temporary negative effect on inflation and employment. A calibrated version of the model is able to generate realistic amounts of short-run volatility due to demand shocks, in line with existing time-series evidence. The paper also develops a simple method to solve forward-looking models with dispersed information.

Unleashing the power of the 4IR in organisational value chains: A conceptual analysis

Olutoyin O. Olaitan, Arthur Mapanga

Background: The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) has transformed value chains across various industries. However, there is still a lack of knowledge on how to effectively utilise 4IR technologies in organisational value chains. Research must explore how organisations can use 4IR technologies to optimise their value chain performance. Objectives: The primary aim of this study is to explore the holistic impact of 4IR technologies on the structural transformation of value chains. Method: Applying the principles of the resource-based view and the VRIO (Valuable, Rare, Inimitable and Organisation) framework, a systematic literature review was conducted to map the intersection of 4IR technologies and value chain performance. It utilised resource-based view theory and the VRIO framework to assess the role of 4IR in transforming value chains. This study focused on the VRIO integration of 4IR resources, such as advanced data analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), proprietary technologies and skilled workforces. Results: The research shows that 4IR resources are valuable and rare assets that require meticulous organisational integration, adaptable organisational structures, innovation-driven cultures and cross-functional collaboration. Conclusion: The strategic integration of 4IR resources within value chains can lead to innovation, efficiency and enduring competitive advantage. Contribution: This study provides a strategic roadmap for integrating emerging 4IR technologies into business value chains, cultivating a deeper understanding and maximising the benefits of these technologies to achieve sustained value creation and competitive advantage.

Quantitative data processing of whole service value chain for power grid internal simulation market

Nan Liu

The internal simulation market system can stimulate employee initiative, reduce costs and improve information processing efficiency. However, the complexity of the internal simulation market poses a challenge to computing resources. Efficient data processing techniques are crucial for internal simulation market systems. In this paper, the internal simulation market model and the value chain theory are first put forward. Second, the internal simulation market construction within power grid enterprises is proposed. Then we propose a data mining-based collaborative fusion and processing method for multi-value chain quantitative data in power grid internal simulation markets to conduct data processing, including data fusion, abnormal data elimination and data dimensionality reduction, thereby improving the accuracy of information processing and data sharing. Finally, we validate the superior performance of the proposed method through simulations.
