Inconvenient Missionary Legacies in the Contemporary World and Museums: An Inquiry into the Rise and Fall of the Wereldmuseum Berg en Dal
Yang Hu
This article addresses the recent conflict in the Netherlands between a national ethnographic museum, the Wereldmuseum Berg en Dal (formerly Afrika Museum), and a Catholic congregation, the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, both of which legally own half of the museum’s collection. The case highlights the challenging situations faced by ethnographic museums with missionary legacies in the Netherlands over the past few decades. This article critically examines not only the handling of the conflict between the Wereldmuseum and the Spiritan fathers based on current legal frameworks and museum policies, but also the motives behind their initial collaboration. Finally, it proposes alternative practices for a more ethical approach to African heritage, contributing to debates about museum reconfiguration and ethical restitution.
A Critical Discussion of the Relationship Between Processes of Spatial Transformation and Youth Gang Activity in Denver
Janka Deák
Denver, Colorado is one of the most rapidly gentrifying cities in the United States. Case studies of gentrifying cities, including Chicago and Los Angeles demonstrate a relationship between urban restructuring and the emergence of youth gangs. However, this phenomenon is under-investigated in Denver. Drawing on an integrative literature review, this paper engages in a critical discussion of the relationship between processes of spatial transformation and youth gang activity in Denver. The contestation of urban space is identified as a central contributor to rising rates of gang criminality in the city’s gentrifying areas. These findings highlight the significance of community activism in popular resistance to gentrification and the protection of residents’ rights to the city.

Hungarian Representative Exhibitions and the Rhetoric of Display in the 1920s
Samuel D. Albert
This article examines the series of art exhibitions organized by the Hungarian government in the 1920s. After examining the bureaucratic framework of the exhibition, the article then discusses the materials displayed at five different exhibitions, organized between 1920 and 1927. While much of the material displayed remained the same, the rhetoric, particularly the catalog essays that accompanied the exhibition provided insight into the organizers’ goals and the governmental ideology underlying that rhetoric.
Features of the Fantastic Novel in Ancient Arabic Narrative
Salima Bennour & Ayeb Fatma Zohra
Abstract: This study explores the origins and unique characteristics of the novel genre by tracing its roots to ancient Arabic storytelling traditions such, as fable, folklore and classic works like One Thousand and One Nights. The fantastical novel embraces elements of the supernatural, impossible and marvelous breaking away from realism in favor of storytelling. Early Arabic narratives featuring gods, jinns, magic and transformations sparked a sense of awe. Wonder, laying the groundwork for the emergence of fantastical Arabic literature. Influenced by climates and a desire to explore forms rooted in Arab Islamic heritage contemporary Arab writers have incorporated techniques, like irony, exaggeration, distortion, intertextuality and mystical themes into their works. The fantastical genre has provided a platform for authors to express dissenting views and suppressed desires through allegories. By examining these origins, we can shed light on the features and progression of this imaginative literary genre.

Shakespeare, Persia and the East, by Cyrus Ghani
Mostafa Hosseini
Shakespeare, Persia and the East is a slim book of Comparative Literature. Its main emphasis is on English and Persian literatures and cultures. Without doubt this is the most comprehensive book which is written in this area so far. Shakespeare, Persia and the East, as the title signifies, is about Shakespeare's knowledge and interest in Persia and the East. The book has an introduction, an index (a selection of translations of the works of Shakespeare in several Eastern languages), a bibliography, and an index of authors. It consists of five chapters: 1) a brief biography of Shakespeare, 2) the Tudors and the Safavids,3) Travelers to Persia and Commercial Relations, 4) Shakespeare and the Earl of Southampton and 5) Persian and other Eastern references in Shakespeare's plays. The first four initial chapters serve as an introduction to the last chapter which is the most important and somehow innovative part of the book.

Imposing an ideology: cultural trauma and political taboo in Nebojša Slijepčević’s Srbenka
Yago Paris
Abstract The present paper analyzes Nebojša Slijepčević’s documentary Srbenka from a political and cultural perspective, from the point of view of political taboo and cultural trauma. By tackling the murder of the Zec family during the Croatian War of Independence, the film reflects on the situation of the Serbian national minority and the conflictive situation it has to confront due to the national narratives that the Croatian state has developed, which are a representation of political taboo. This situation provokes and reinforces an almost impossible to solve cultural trauma inside the Serbian community, whose population, as a result, reacts by hiding their ethnic origin in the public sphere, in a behavioural pattern known as unacknowledgeability. The reconstruction of the murder will allow me to analyze witness traumatization. In the end, a study of documentary theory, based on Nichols six modes to categorize documentaries will be developed, in order to analyze how cinema, and also the arts in general, can be used as vessels for the exposition of struggles and the development of empathy.
SANATÓRIO DOMINGOS FREIRE: APAGAMENTO DE UM TESTEMUNHO MATERIAL DA ARQUITETURA ASSISTENCIAL EM BELÉM, PARÁ, BRASIL
Livia Gaby Costa, Cybelle Salvador Miranda

Natalia Teuber-Terrones
Georg Trakl is one of the most commented-upon German-speaking poets. Certainly this timeless interest in him and his work can be explained by his complex personality—which can be seen as the archetypal ‘poète maudit’—and his unconventional biography but also by his mould-breaking poetry. His work is not only considered as the origin of ‘expressionist’ poetry, but also defined as ‘hermetic’ poetry by a lot of specialists. Above all, in front of this kind of complex and revolutionary poetry, we must ask the question about how to get an objective and scientific interpretation. How can we interpret a poem uniquely built on a muddle of images and figures with a heavy symbolic charge or, as some specialists say, codes? Dieter Lamping criticizes literary theory, because in his mind, the discipline is losing its original subject—literature—and only concerned with itself: theory. So, for Lamping modern poetry is the best way for literary theory to prove its validity. What especially defines modern poetry is the distance and destruction of traditional aesthetics and forms and in this context, literary theory must find its origins other than in aesthetic and formal characteristics, which means that the theory must find a deeper universal way to define why poetry is precisely poetry.

Holistic Development and Music Education: Research for Educators and Community Stakeholders
Edward Varner
Many educators and parents remain unaware of the value of music and the arts beyond obvious, natural entertainment contexts and find it easy to devalue music and arts programing. This article presents a concise review of significant research that demonstrates strong correlations between the study of music and arts as academic disciplines that improve the development of literacy, language, and math skills while also providing a natural link to improved social and emotional competencies. The material is presented to better inform and aid general music specialist efforts to share the academic value of music for students while highlighting distinct contributions to improved emotional, intellectual, and social areas of cognition that other academic disciplines may not achieve as effectively.

Ángeles Sin Fronteras, A.C. y el proceso de deportación a Mexicali, Baja California
Tatiana E. Lara San Luis
