The Theory and Practice of Translation, first published in 1982 and a companion work to Toward a Science of Translating (Brill, 1964), analyses and describes the set of processes involved in translating. Bible translating, the focus of this work, offers a unique subject for such a study, as it has an exceptionally long history, involves more than 2,000 languages, a vast range of cultures and a broader range of literary structures than any other type of translating. Not only of interest to Biblical scholars, therefore, this work explores issues of textual meanings and the procedures for communicating these meanings into other languages and cultures.

This article presents the signs of hope, listed by Pope Francis in his bull Spes non confundit, in sixteen selected Gregorian chants of the liturgical year based on the Bible in the context of the message of the Ordinary Jubilee of the Year 2025. The subject of the research is divided into two groups: the Liturgy of the Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours. For each, one piece was selected for Advent, Nativity of the Lord, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Pentecost, Ordinary Time, and the Solemnity of Christ the King of the Universe. The author employs several methods, including theological-biblical analysis, a comparison of the message of hope by Pope Francis and the texts of the chorales, and a synthesis of the results to assess the value and pastoral usefulness of the studied chants. The text is divided into three parts: (1) Pope Francis’s message on the signs of hope; (2) signs of hope in selected Gregorian chant texts; and (3) hope-carrying potential of Gregorian chant. The author shows how selected pieces serve to revive hope and give thanks to God in the contemplation of a work of art (SNC 5). As a result, signs of hope, mentioned by Pope Francis, have been discovered in the presented pieces. Their presence testifies to the richness of the message that the Church directs to man throughout the liturgical year, also through Gregorian chant. Given the threat of experiencing the present in melancholy and boredom (SNC 12), this repertoire, through its theological-biblical and artistic values, can be one of the impulses of hope that Francis writes about.

Bee pollen is a combination of plant pollen and honeybee secretions and nectar. The Bible and ancient Egyptian texts are documented proof of its use in public health. It is considered a gold mine of nutrition due to its active components that have significant health and medicinal properties. Bee pollen contains bioactive compounds including proteins, amino acids, lipids, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins, and polyphenols. The vital components of bee pollen enhance different bodily functions and offer protection against many diseases. It is generally marketed as a functional food with affordable and inexpensive prices with promising future industrial potentials. This review highlights the dietary properties of bee pollen and its influence on human health, and its applications in the food industry.

In 1816, the Polish branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society (BFBS) was established in Warsaw to distribute Catholic and Protestant Bibles in Polish. It operated intermittently throughout the nineteenth century, subordinated to the larger BFBS agencies in Vienna or St Petersburg. The organisation expanded its operations in the interwar period under the leadership of Aleksander Enholc and continued to grow after the Second World War. In 1967, Bar bara Enholc-Narzyńska was appointed as its head. In 1992, the branch formally became independent and has since operated as the Bible Society in Poland

An image that has crossed literature since Antiquity, the spider appears in Flaubert’s pages like a leitmotif that recurs in several scenes where it carries major meanings for the artist’s poetics. The author fully exploits the versatility of this animal, which, as Sylvie Ballestra-Puech has shown, acquires a negative value in the Western iconographic and literary tradition. Incarnation of the devil in a production which was inspired by the Bible as well as in some "moralizing" re-readings of the myth of Arachne, an omen of misfortune and madness, this arachnid enters the Flaubertian universe first of all through Ovid’s Metamorphoses. But Flaubert’s spider also feeds on some subterranean works, as demonstrated by the analysis of some passages from Madame Bovary and La Tentation de saint Antoine where the animal is mentioned.

Recent scholarship focuses on the plasticity of the concept of “scripture” as it is defined by different religious traditions. Based on its contents, the Quran is most commonly compared to the Bible, yet such an approach misses the distinct way that the Quran is understood as an authoritative text by classical Muslim scholarship. Even “basic” information—knowing the number of words, the names of surahs, the structure of the text—is essential to understanding how Muslims see the Quran as scripture and the foundations upon which it is built. Muslims regard the Quran as the word of God, revealed to the prophet Muhammad, the primary source for determining the beliefs and practices of Islam. The text of the Quran is used in the teaching of Arabic and is the focus of Islamic learning. It is regarded as interceding on behalf of those who revere it, is recited as a part of regular rituals, and is treated as a sacred object in ritual and everyday settings. The exegetical and ritual use of the Quran is a fundamental means for Muslims to both relate and distinguish themselves from other religious identities, especially those such as Jews and Christians, with whom they share a common scriptural tradition.

The aim of this article is that to remind the fact that forgiveness is not a practice that should be held captive for the religious life of a person or human community. Rather, it should be a practice of the public life of a society. Yet, there are biblical models for such a practice of forgiveneness, both in the Old Testament and the New Testament. Therefore, for the biblical model embodied by the prophet Jeremiah, the article will continue with the biblical model embodied by John the Baptist. The two are proeminent figure in the Bible, one in the Old Testament and one in the New Testament. The third model is that embodied by Jesus Christ, the central person in the New Testament. From the exploration of the three models, the paper will continue with the coordinates of Church’s participation in Christ’s model. It will end with the way the practice of forgiveness is reflected in Romanian society and politics after 1989.

Singing has always been part of worship in a Pentecostal spiritual service. However, the role of singing in Pentecostal worship as a therapeutic agent has been under-researched. In order to bridge this research gap, this article is an interdisciplinary study of singing and Pentecostal worship. It seeks to demonstrate that the act of singing is a therapeutic agent in Pentecostal worship. The article will explore singing as a biblical concept to establish its theology. The purpose is to demonstrate that singing is not only part of the liturgy in a Pentecostal worship service but also acts as a therapeutic agent for all sorts of ailments, including spiritual, physical, emotional and psychological ailments. Intradisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary implications: The importance of this article is twofold; firstly, the article demonstrates that singing plays a pivotal role in Pentecostal worship as much as it did in the Bible. Secondly, the article illustrates that singing is more than a liturgical exercise; it acts as a therapeutic agent in Pentecostal worship.

This article proposes that the use of first-person narration in the unusual literary structure of Dan 4 creates the most meaningful message for the diaspora audience of the book because of who Nebuchadnezzar was and when the events were purported to occur. It discusses the larger literary context of the chapter and its narrative structure, analyses the text and identifies important elements highlighted by the use of different narrative voices, and considers how the structure shapes the message of the chapter. Nebuchadnezzar was the king who defeated Israel’s God (Dan 1:1–2) and changed life forever for God’s people, yet at the peak of Nebuchadnezzar’s power, that same God humbled him such that he came to acknowledge the superior sovereignty of Israel’s God. By framing the account of this transformation as a proclamation in Nebuchadnezzar’s own words to the entire world, the author of Daniel vindicates the God of Israel before the whole world and transforms the king who embodied opposition to God into the paradigm of what a gentile king ought to be.
