The blockchain-enabled technology and carbon performance: Insights from early adopters
Yudi Fernando, Nor Hazwani Mohd Rozuar, Fineke Mergeresa
Abstract This paper examined the drivers of blockchain technology adoption and carbon performance using the theory of technology-organization-environment (TOE) as the basis for the development of a technology adoption framework. Blockchain technology has passed the proof testing phase and is attracting early adopters who can gain benefits from it. Manufacturing firms that had adopted the blockchain technology and voluntary reported the carbon emission were targeted as the sample and survey data were collected from manufacturing firms that were registered with the Association of Malaysian Manufacturers. Unfavourable support of top management and the lack of technology competence were the main barriers to the adoption of blockchain technology among manufacturing firms. The results indicate that firms did not achieve low carbon performance and that a lack of pressure from competitors and technical competency to undertake blockchain technology were factors. No evidence existed demonstrating a linkage of early adopters of blockchain technology with and low carbon performance. Recommendations of this study include that firms should take the initiative to record the energy consumption, engage in the transfer of carbon credits, and monitor carbon performance using reliable technology to improve business transparency and sustainability.
Business as Rulesual: A Benchmark and Framework for Business Rule Flow Modeling with LLMs
Chen Yang, Ruping Xu, Ruizhe Li
et al.
Extracting structured procedural knowledge from unstructured business documents is a critical yet unresolved bottleneck in process automation. While prior work has focused on extracting linear action flows from instructional texts, such as recipes, it has insufficiently addressed the complex logical structures, including conditional branching and parallel execution, that are pervasive in real-world regulatory and administrative documents. Furthermore, existing benchmarks are limited by simplistic schemas and shallow logical dependencies, restricting progress toward logic-aware large language models. To bridge this Logic Gap, we introduce BREX, a carefully curated benchmark comprising 409 real-world business documents and 2,855 expert-annotated rules. Unlike prior datasets centered on narrow service scenarios, BREX spans over 30 vertical domains, covering scientific, industrial, administrative, and financial regulations. We further propose ExIde, a structure-aware reasoning framework that investigates five distinct prompting strategies, ranging from implicit semantic alignment to executable grounding via pseudo-code generation. This enables explicit modeling of rule dependencies and provides an out-of-the-box framework for different business customers without finetuning their own large language models. We benchmark ExIde using 13 state-of-the-art large language models. Our extensive evaluation reveals that executable grounding serves as a superior inductive bias, significantly outperforming standard prompts in rule extraction. In addition, reasoning-optimized models demonstrate a distinct advantage in tracing long-range and non-linear rule dependencies compared to standard instruction-tuned models.
ReviewSense: Transforming Customer Review Dynamics into Actionable Business Insights
Siddhartha Krothapalli, Kartikey Singh Bhandari, Tridib Kumar Das
et al.
As customer feedback becomes increasingly central to strategic growth, the ability to derive actionable insights from unstructured reviews is essential. While traditional AI-driven systems excel at predicting user preferences, far less work has focused on transforming customer reviews into prescriptive, business-facing recommendations. This paper introduces ReviewSense, a novel prescriptive decision support framework that leverages advanced large language models (LLMs) to transform customer reviews into targeted, actionable business recommendations. By identifying key trends, recurring issues, and specific concerns within customer sentiments, ReviewSense extends beyond preference-based systems to provide businesses with deeper insights for sustaining growth and enhancing customer loyalty. The novelty of this work lies in integrating clustering, LLM adaptation, and expert-driven evaluation into a unified, business-facing pipeline. Preliminary manual evaluations indicate strong alignment between the model's recommendations and business objectives, highlighting its potential for driving data-informed decision-making. This framework offers a new perspective on AI-driven sentiment analysis, demonstrating its value in refining business strategies and maximizing the impact of customer feedback.
A Conceptual Model and Methodology for Sustainability-aware, IoT-enhanced Business Processes
Victoria Torres Bosch, Ronny Seiger, Manuela Albert Albiol
et al.
The real-time data collection and automation capabilities offered by the Internet of Things (IoT) are revolutionizing and transforming Business Processes (BPs) into IoT-enhanced BPs, showing high potential for improving sustainability. Although already studied in Business Process Management (BPM), sustainability research has primarily focused on environmental concerns. However, achieving a holistic and lasting impact requires a systematic approach to address sustainability beyond the environmental dimension. This work proposes a conceptual model and a structured methodology with the goal of analyzing the potential of IoT to measure and improve the sustainability of BPs. The conceptual model formally represents key sustainability concepts, linking BPM and IoT by highlighting how IoT devices support and contribute to sustainability. The methodology guides the systematic analysis of existing BPs, identifies opportunities, and implements sustainability-aware, IoT-enhanced BPs. The approach is illustrated through a running example from the tourism domain and a case study in healthcare.
Private Blockchain-based Procurement and Asset Management System with QR Code
Alonel A. Hugo, Gerard Nathaniel C. Ngo
The developed system aims to incorporate a private blockchain technology in the procurement process for the supply office. The procurement process includes the canvassing, purchasing, delivery and inspection of items, inventory, and disposal. The blockchain-based system includes a distributed ledger technology, peer-to-peer network, Proof-of-Authority consensus mechanism, and SHA3-512 cryptographic hash function algorithm. This will ensure trust and proper accountability to the custodian of the property while safeguarding sensitive information in the procurement records. The extreme prototyping model will be used as software development life cycle. It is mostly used for web-based applications and has an increased user involvement. The prototype version of the system allows the users get a better understanding of the system being developed. It also reduces the time and cost, has quicker user feedback, missing and difficult functions can be recognized, and confusing processes can be addressed on an early stage. The implementation of a private blockchain technology has an increased privacy, enhanced security, improved efficiency, and reduced complexity over traditional blockchain network. The use of SHA3-512 as cryptographic hash function algorithm is much faster than its predecessors when cryptography is handled by hardware components. Furthermore, it is not vulnerable to length extension attacks making it reliable in terms of security of data. The study recommends the use of private blockchain-based technology with the procurement and asset management system in the supply office. The procurement records will be protected against tampering using this technology. This will promote trust and confidence of the stakeholders. The implementation of blockchain technology in developing a system served as advancement and innovation in terms of securing data.
Strategic management analysis: from data to strategy diagram by LLM
Richard Brath, Adam Bradley, David Jonker
Strategy management analyses are created by business consultants with common analysis frameworks (i.e. comparative analyses) and associated diagrams. We show these can be largely constructed using LLMs, starting with the extraction of insights from data, organization of those insights according to a strategy management framework, and then depiction in the typical strategy management diagram for that framework (static textual visualizations). We discuss caveats and future directions to generalize for broader uses.
Multi-banking ATM system services using biometrics
Harsha Patil, Vikas Mahandule, Lekharaj Khachane
et al.
Automated Teller Machine (ATM) transactions are now regarded as secure, dependable, and unavoidable for meeting our financial obligations. The conventional method of utilizing an ATM requires the use of a debit card. But occasionally users run out of money in their accounts or forget their cards, which makes it difficult to execute a purchase. Mobile phone use has been an unavoidable development, similar to ATM usage. By connecting these electronic devices, it has become possible to make cash withdrawals that are both quick and secure without the use of a debit card, or “card-less cash withdrawals”. For user authentication, face detection, OTP and fingerprint scanning are used. Three tiers of security are constructed by this. If all three parameters are authenticated then and then only the user is allowed to the banking transaction.

APPLICATION OF DIBR AND MAIRCA METHODS IN THE EVALUATION OF THE ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE OF THE ECONOMY OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
Radojko Lukić
The issue of analyzing factors of the dynamics of the economic performance of every economy, including Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), is continuously very current, challenging, significant, and complex. An adequate control of the key factors can significantly influence the achievement of the target economic performance of BiH’s economy. The application of multi-criteria decision-making methods enables an adequate control of the key factors of the economic performance of BiH’s economy. Bearing that in mind, this paper analyzes the dynamics of the economic performance of BiH’s economy in the period 2013 - 2022 based on the DIBR and MAIRCA methods. The top five years of the economic performance of BiH’s economy according to the DIBR and MAIRCA methods fall in the following order: 2021, 2022, 2018, 2019, and 2017. The worst economic performance in BiH’s economy was registered in 2020, which was contributed, among other things, by the Covid-19 pandemic. Generally speaking, the economic performance of BiH’s economy significantly improved recently. This was influenced by adequate management of the analyzed statistical variables (gross domestic product, inflation, agriculture, industry, export, import, capital, income, taxes, time required to start business – days, and domestic loans provided by the financial sector). The factors such as the geopolitical situation, the economic climate, foreign direct investments, the energy crisis, the digitalization of company's entire operation, the application of sustainable development concept and other others are also important. In any case, the adequate control of these variables can greatly influence the achievement of the target economic performance of BiH’s economy.

Visual Analytics to Leverage Anesthesia Electronic Health Record
R. Kahn, Jonathan S. Gal, I. Hofer
et al.
BACKGROUND: Visual analytics is the science of analytical reasoning supported by interactive visual interfaces called dashboards. In this report, we describe our experience addressing the challenges in visual analytics of anesthesia electronic health record (EHR) data using a commercially available business intelligence (BI) platform. As a primary outcome, we discuss some performance metrics of the dashboards, and as a secondary outcome, we outline some operational enhancements and financial savings associated with deploying the dashboards. METHODS: Data were transferred from the EHR to our departmental servers using several parallel processes. A custom structured query language (SQL) query was written to extract the relevant data fields and to clean the data. Tableau was used to design multiple dashboards for clinical operation, performance improvement, and business management. RESULTS: Before deployment of the dashboards, detailed case counts and attributions were available for the operating rooms (ORs) from perioperative services; however, the same level of detail was not available for non-OR locations. Deployment of the yearly case count dashboards provided near-real–time case count information from both central and non-OR locations among multiple campuses, which was not previously available. The visual presentation of monthly data for each year allowed us to recognize seasonality in case volumes and adjust our supply chain to prevent shortages. The dashboards highlighted the systemwide volume of cases in our endoscopy suites, which allowed us to target these supplies for pricing negotiations, with an estimated annual cost savings of $250,000. Our central venous pressure (CVP) dashboard enabled us to provide individual practitioner feedback, thus increasing our monthly CVP checklist compliance from approximately 92% to 99%. CONCLUSIONS: The customization and visualization of EHR data are both possible and worthwhile for the leveraging of information into easily comprehensible and actionable data for the improvement of health care provision and practice management. Limitations inherent to EHR data presentation make this customization necessary, and continued open access to the underlying data set is essential.
Reap the Harvest on Blockchain: A Survey of Yield Farming Protocols
Jiahua Xu, Yebo Feng
Yield farming represents an immensely popular asset management activity in decentralized finance (DeFi). It involves supplying, borrowing, or staking crypto assets to earn an income in forms of transaction fees, interest, or participation rewards at different DeFi marketplaces. In this systematic survey, we present yield farming protocols as an aggregation-layer constituent of the wider DeFi ecosystem that interact with primitive-layer protocols such as decentralized exchanges (DEXs) and protocols for loanable funds (PLFs). We examine the yield farming mechanism by first studying the operations encoded in the yield farming smart contracts, and then performing stylized, parameterized simulations on various yield farming strategies. We conduct a thorough literature review on related work, and establish a framework for yield farming protocols that takes into account pool structure, accepted token types, and implemented strategies. Using our framework, we characterize major yield aggregators in the market including Yearn Finance, Beefy, and Badger DAO. Moreover, we discuss anecdotal attacks against yield aggregators and generalize a number of risks associated with yield farming.
A generic framework for decision support in retail inventory management
Hans Jurie Zietsman, Jan Harm van Vuuren
The success of any business depends on how well it is able to satisfy customer demand, while remaining financially viable. Globalisation and the growth of e-commerce have resulted in retail businesses having to manage increasing numbers of products. As the number of products sold increases, so does the complexity of the corresponding inventory management problem. High-quality decision making, in this regard, necessitates the utilisation of computerised decision support systems capable of accommodating the complexity presented by a large number of products. Existing frameworks for decision support in inventory management are mainly focused on a single facet of the inventory management problem - generic, integrated frameworks seem to be absent from the literature. In this paper, a holistic framework design is proposed which integrates all of the major components expected to form part of a generic framework for inventory management. The objective of the framework is to provide decision support in respect of various inventory management operations, such as product segmentation, demand forecasting and determining the sizes and timings of replenishment orders, in pursuit of a desirable balance between the conflicting objectives in inventory management.
What-if Analysis for Business Professionals: Current Practices and Future Opportunities
Sneha Gathani, Zhicheng Liu, Peter J. Haas
et al.
What-if analysis (WIA) is essential for data-driven decision-making, allowing users to assess how changes in variables impact outcomes and explore alternative scenarios. Existing WIA research primarily supports the workflows of data scientists and analysts, and largely overlooks business professionals who engage in WIA through non-technical means. To bridge this gap, we conduct a two-part user study with 22 business professionals across marketing, sales, product, and operations roles. The first study examines their existing WIA practices, tools, and challenges. Findings reveal that business professionals perform many WIA techniques independently using rudimentary tools due to various constraints. We then implement representative WIA techniques in a visual analytics prototype and use it as a probe to conduct a follow-up study evaluating business professionals' practical use of the techniques. Results show that these techniques improve decision-making efficiency and confidence while underscoring the need for better data preparation, risk assessment, and domain knowledge integration support. Finally, we offer design recommendations to enhance future business analytics systems.
Does workplace spirituality influence knowledge-sharing behavior and work engagement in work? Trust as a mediator
Jawad Khan, Muhammad Usman, Imran Saeed
et al.
Management scholars view workplace spirituality as the main factor behind building trust among employees and playing a pivotal role in enhancing the organization's positive outcomes, i.e., knowledge sharing behavior & work engagement. Underpinning social exchange theory, we explored the linkage between workplace spirituality, knowledge sharing behavior, and work engagement. We further studied to look at the mediating effect of trust between workplace spirituality and positive outcomes. Data was collected from six private companies, the total number of respondents was (n=196). The study's analysis showed that workplace spirituality substantially positively impacts knowledge sharing behavior and work engagement. Furthermore, the link between workplace spirituality, knowledge sharing behavior, and work engagement is positively and statistically significantly mediated by trust. Thus, this work contributes significantly to the research paradigm by presenting workplace spirituality as a solution for high-rise trust among employees, fostering employee engagement in their work, and improving the capacity of knowledge-sharing behavior. Additionally, at the end of this study, theoretical and managerial suggestions, future avenues, and limitations are stated.

Larysa Tiesheva, Marko Zelenskyi

Stochastic-Aware Conformance Checking: An Entropy-Based Approach
S. Leemans, Artem Polyvyanyy
Business process management (BPM) aims to support changes and innovations in organizations’ processes. Process mining complements BPM with methods, techniques, and tools that provide insights based on observed executions of business processes recorded in event logs of information systems. State-of-the-art discovery and conformance techniques completely ignore or only implicitly consider the information about the likelihood of processes, which is readily available in event logs, even though such stochastic information is necessary for simulation, prediction and recommendation in models. Furthermore, stochastic information can provide business analysts with further actionable insights on frequent and rare conformance issues. In this paper, we propose precision and recall conformance measures based on the notion of entropy of stochastic automata that are capable of quantifying, and thus differentiating, frequent and rare deviations between an event log and a process model. The feasibility of using the proposed precision and recall measures in industrial settings is demonstrated by an evaluation over several real-world datasets supported by our open-source implementation.

Applicability of Large Corporate Credit Models to Small Business Risk Assessment
Khalid El-Awady
There is a massive underserved market for small business lending in the US with the Federal Reserve estimating over \$650B in unmet annual financing needs. Assessing the credit risk of a small business is key to making good decisions whether to lend and at what terms. Large corporations have a well-established credit assessment ecosystem, but small businesses suffer from limited publicly available data and few (if any) credit analysts who cover them closely. We explore the applicability of (DL-based) large corporate credit risk models to small business credit rating.
Application of the fuzzy clusterwise generalized structured component method to evaluate implementation of national education standard in Indonesia
Budi, Susetyo, Rezi, Wahyuni
Results of school accreditation and national examinations are two indicators that are often used to describe the achievement of quality in education in Indonesia. ‘Accreditation’ reflects the fulfillment of 8 national education standards (NES), while the national exam (NE, or UN in Bahasa) for students describes academic performance. Eight NES and academic performance are latent variables. The relationship between the two variables and the validity of its indicators can be evaluated by several methods. Path analysis with latent variables can be obtained through general structured component analysis (GSCA) with the assumption of homogeneity of variance. Since the data are not homogeneous, this study aims to apply the fuzzy clusterwise generalized structured component analysis (FCGSCA) to evaluate the relationship between the NES and the UN, and the validity of the indicators. The results showed that there were two school clusters in Indonesia. The evaluation of the measurement model indicated that some indicators of the accreditation instrument were not valid, i.e., 6 indicators in cluster 1 and 15 indicators in cluster 2. The structural model evaluation of the two clusters indicated that standard of process to the UN was not significant. Based on the overall goodness of the fit model, the total diversities of all variables that could be explained were 61.60% in cluster 1 and 59.90% in cluster 2.
