Speculative Design offers a methodological toolbox with which to explore, and potentially legitimize, alternative models and modes of knowledge through world-building not based on, or not yet based on, socially normalised ‘truths’. However, a problematic dichotomy remains: whilst a neutral, transparent and universal truth may be a fantasy construct, the disturbance of such a construct through individual embodiments is no simple alternative. It requires a careful observation of the modes and assumptions, the premises and processes of different knowledge-generating practices within the confines of academia and beyond. In short, it requires actual (not simply professed) inter- and trans-disciplinarity; in other words: actual working together. So: How do we work together? Drawing from a range of different disciplines and hybrid forms of research, including artistic research, design, philosophy, and various types of embodied practice, the team members of Spec Space, the Laboratory for Speculative Design Research at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW), attempted to perform this inter- and trans-disciplinarity on the stage of the Performance Philosophy conference in Helsinki. They demonstrate different ways of knowing, approaching and triangulating the question of what can emerge, once the traditional domains of academia and science (“Wissenschaft”), are no longer regarded as exclusive sites for knowledge production.

Este artigo apresenta uma análise da minissérie Chernobyl, em relação aos aspectos de natureza da ciência (NdC) retratados, discutindo a potencialidade dessa obra no ensino sobre ciências. Foi realizada a categorização das áreas e aspectos de NdC à luz do modelo MoCEC v.2, sendo identificadas as seis áreas do conhecimento e 250 aspectos de NdC, destacando a riqueza e o potencial da minissérie para introduzir a discussão desses aspectos no ensino de ciências. Por fim, esse trabalho discute a necessidade de uma alfabetização científica para as mídias na formação dos estudantes e da importância dos conhecimentos de NdC para a compreensão de como um conhecimento científico é desenvolvido e/ou utilizado.
The article explores aspects of the dialectical deductive process of the concept of free will, the principal organizing and operating concept in Hegel's Philosophy of Right. In this respect, it reflects on the structural components of the concept of free will, which is the starting point of the science of right, since the relation of right is for Hegel the realization of free will. In parallel, it attempts to highlight some crucial points with respect to the speculative dialectical method that underlies the Hegelian argument at this juncture. In that respect, the article aspires to a brief reconstruction of the formal and substantive presuppositions of Hegel's mature practical philosophy.
Practically rooted in a report on the activities and inquiries of a year-long thinktank performance, this chapter discusses how Arendt’s notions of “withdrawal” into thought (1978), discursive formation of reasonabilities (1958), and use of personal moral heuristics (1968) can be reflexively situated to devise discourse praxes not only amongst “philosophers” but also amongst those of us who are seen and see ourselves as “laypersons” or “non-professional thinkers” (1971) nevertheless agentic in political and epistemic materializations. Through debate motivated by Arendt’s parsing of tensions between thinking and acting and her conflations of speaking and doing, this particular thinktank sought ways of performing mutual spectatorship that could foreground methodological, theatrical, and ethical modes of discourse. My arguments here are oriented around a diagram produced by this thinktank, conflicts between ways of seeing that arose during the thinktank, and one member of the thinktank’s choice to end their own life.
Among the tools of philosophical work, the dialogue, as form of live "transaction" between two or more persons, seems to have its beginning and its end with Socrates. Along the subsequent development of our philosophical tradition the dialogue reappears only as literary genre. The essay aims to suggest that the live philosophical dialogue, if offered in new forms as a distributed social practice arranged and supported by the professional skills of philosopher, shows some promise of widening the boundaries of the examined life.
Recent forms of realism in continental philosophy that are habitually subsumed under the category of “speculative realism,” a denomination referring to rather heterogeneous strands of philosophy, bringing together object-oriented ontology (OOO), non-standard philosophy (or non-philosophy), the speculative realist ideas of Quentin Meillassoux and Marxism, have provided grounds for the much needed critique of culturalism in gender theory, and the authority with which post-structuralism has dominated feminist theory for decades. This publication aims to bring forth some of the feminist debates prompted by the so-called “speculative turn,” while demonstrating that there has never been a niche of “speculative realist feminism.” Whereas most of the contributions featured in this collection provide a theoretical approach invoking the necessity of foregrounding new forms of realism for a “feminism beyond gender as culture,” some of the essays tackle OOO only to invite a feminist critical challenge to its paradigm, while others refer to some extent to non-philosophy or the new materialisms but are not reducible to either of the two. We have invited essays from intellectual milieus outside the Anglo-Saxon academic center, bringing together authors from Serbia, Slovenia, France, Ireland, the UK, and Canada, aiming to promote feminist internationalism (rather than a “generous act of cultural inclusion”).

De manera paradójica, la actualidad de la hermenéutica debe buscarse en su diálogo con la tradición filosófica. Diálogo que daría comienzo, en primer lugar, con su recepción de Husserl, la cual no se puede entender tanto como una traición al proyecto fenomenológico cuanto como un llevarlo hasta sus últimas consecuencias. En segundo lugar, la vuelta sobre el proyecto moderno (no concebida como destrucción sino como intento de comprensión) conduciría a un dialógo con Kant y a la discusión de la posición de un sujeto trascendental como condición de la objetividad. Es precisamente esta idea de diálogo la que define la hermenéutica como una apertura a lo otro en tanto que otro y no como un ejercicio de asimilación. Finalmente, si esta apertura al otro no cristaliza en un proyecto ético definido es, justamente, porque trata de pensar el fundamento de lo ético.
Mi objetivo en el presente artículo es ofrecer una reconstrucción de la mecánica del análisis filosófico que Wittgenstein lleva a cabo en Sobre la Certeza. Mostraré que allí el análisis se basa especialmente en el recurso a una amplia tipología proposicional, que sirve para evaluar y diagnosticar las proposiciones de Moore. Con este fin, primero, aclararé en qué sentido fallan las lecturas usuales de las cuestiones metodológicas en Sobre la Certeza. Segundo, me centro en la mecánica del análisis que se observa en los fragmentos 1-65, atendiendo específicamente al análisis de tres expresiones: “hay objetos físicos”, “yo sé que aquí hay una mano” y “aquí es imposible el error”. Tercero, paso a identificar las etapas del método y justifico en qué sentido el núcleo estratégico de dicha investigación es el cuadro de tipos proposicionales.
<p>objeto del presente artículo es demostrar la vinculación filológica entre la justicia, el derecho y la igualdad en el antiguo idioma griego o, que es lo mismo, la vinculación filosófica entre la ética, la política y la economía. es interesante, pues, examinar el origen etimológico de la palabra <em>dikē </em>que procede de la raíz sánscrita <em>diś-(dik) </em>y hace referencia más que al concepto genérico de «línea recta», al concepto especifico y astronómico de «línea del horizonte» que divide aparentemente el cosmos en dos partes iguales, la tierra y el cielo, significando la misma idea de igualdad la cual debe servir de regla para la norma justa y la perfección ética. Según mi análisis, además, el mismo Platón pudo haber utilizado la analogía de la línea del horizonte para explicar su cosmológica Doctrina de las Ideas.</p>
En 1984, Mario Rapoport y Carlos Escudé – dos cientistas sociales abocados al estudio de las relaciones internacionales argentinas – llevaron a cabo un enconado debate académico que se publicó en el n. 92 de Desarrollo Económico – Revista de Ciencias Sociales. Este trabajo se propone analizar la revista científica como espacio de legitimación para los agentes de un campo científico. En particular, se indaga acerca de la Revista Desarrollo Económico y el campo de las relaciones internacionales en Argentina. A través del análisis del corpus bibliográfico de la revista, de la realización de entrevistas en profundidad y del empleo de fuentes secundarias, se busca precisar el carácter del lugar ocupado por la publicación en dicho campo.
This paper takes into account the philosophical issue of alterity, enriched by feminist theory and its reflection on sexual difference. There are, at least, three aspects of feminist theory which are related to alterity: on the first hand, the critique on construction of femininity as alterity against masculinity; secondly, and together with feminism of difference, it is interesting to think about physical and symbolic experiences of motherhood, which provide a new model of ‘irreducible alterity’ and new contents for a Care Ethics; third, and considering Ricoeur’s dialectics between idem-identity and ipse-identity, sexual identity can be redefined as a dialogical and dynamic process concerning discursive and performative dimensions.
Per delineare il rapporto tra etica ed estetica nell'architettura e rispondere alla domanda principale «che cosa è o dovrebbe essere un buon architetto?», il saggio discute la tesi di Wittgenstein secondo cui «l'opera d'arte è l'oggetto visto sub specie aeternitatis e la vita buona è il mondo visto sub specie aeternitatis. Questa è la connessione tra arte ed etica».
Nossa proposta é apresentar argumentos que enfatizem a possibilidade do escrito kantiano “Sonhos de um visionário explicados por sonhos da metafísica” (1766) ser considerado como um possível escrito de virada crítica ou uma obra que contém elementos que supostamente conduziram Kant ao criticismo presente na Dissertação de 1770 e na Crítica da razão pura. A década de 1760 do período pré-crítico da filosofia kantiana é considerada como antidogmática ou mesmo um período de crítica ao racionalismo dogmático, em que Kant promove uma crítica à Escola Leibniz-wolffiana e busca fundamentar a metafísica como a ciência dos limites da razão. Podemos citar alguns dos elementos que permitem caracterizar a obra como contendo conteúdo de cunho crítico: espaço e tempo como formas para abarcar objetos sensíveis; a ilusão e confusão do entendimento em abarcar seres que estão fora do campo sensível; e este como garantia da validade objetiva dos conceitos racionais.
