Incidence and Survival of Multiple Primary Cancers in US Women With a Gynecologic Cancer

Logan Corey, Logan Corey, Julie Ruterbusch et al.

ObjectivesTo evaluate risk of a second cancer and associated survival times in United States women with diagnosis of cancer.MethodsThe Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database was queried for 2 cohorts of women aged 18 - 89 with either an index gynecologic or non-gynecologic cancer diagnosed between 1992 – 2017. Index cases were followed to determine if a second primary cancer was subsequently diagnosed; defined according to SEER multiple primary and histology coding rules. Standard Incident Ratios (SIR) and latency intervals between index diagnosis and second primary diagnosis were evaluated. Among those who developed a second primary cancer, median survival times from diagnosis of second primary cancer were also calculated.ResultsBetween 1992 – 2017, 227,313 US women were diagnosed with an index gynecological cancer and 1,483,016 were diagnosed with an index non-gynecologic cancer. Among patients with index gynecologic cancer, 7.78% developed a non-gynecologic subsequent primary cancer. The risk of developing any non-gynecologic cancer following an index gynecologic cancer was higher than the risk in the general population (SIR 1.05, 95% CI 1.04 - 1.07). Organs especially at risk were Thyroid (SIR 1.45), Colon and Rectum (SIR 1.23), and Urinary System (SIR 1.33). Among women diagnosed with an index non-gynecologic cancer, 0.99% were diagnosed with a subsequent gynecologic cancer. The risk of developing a gynecologic cancer following a non-gynecologic cancer was also elevated compared to the average risk of the general population (SIR 1.05, 1.03 - 1.07), with uterine cancer having the highest SIR of 1.13.ConclusionThe risk of a developing a second primary cancer and the corresponding survival time is based on the order and site of the index and subsequent cancer. Surveillance guidelines should be examined further to optimize survivorship programs.

The Role of Non-pharmacological Interventions on the Dynamics of Schistosomiasis

Agatha Abokwara, Chinwendu Emilian Madubueze

Schistosomiasis is a neglected tropical disease affecting communities surrounded by water bodies where fishing activities take place or people go to swim, wash and cultivate crops. It poses a great risk to the health and economic life of inhabitants of the area. This study was carried out to evaluate the impact of public health education and snail control measures on the incidence of schistosomiasis. A model was developed with attention given to the snail and human populations that are the hosts of the cercariae and miracidia respectively. The existence and stability of disease-free and endemic equilibrium states were established. The disease-free and endemic equilibrium states were shown to be locally asymptotically stable whenever the basic reproduction number was less than unity. Numerical simulations of the model were carried out to evaluate the impact of interventions (public health education and snail control measures) on schistosomiasis transmission. It was observed that the implementation of low coverage snail control with highly efficacious molluscicide and massive public health education will make the basic reproduction number smaller than unity, which implies the eradication of schistosomiasis in the population.

Social Activity and Risk Propensity of Students with Autonomous and Dependent Types of Subject Regulation

Shamionov R.M.

Objectives. The study the commitment to social activity and its various forms in relation to the risk propensity characteristics of students with different types of subject regulation of behavior. Background. The problem of social activity of students as a sphere of their socialization and establishing connections with various social groups and society as a whole is analyzes. One of its most important components is the question of the subject regulation of social activity. It is assumed that depending on the type of subject regulation (Autonomous or Dependent), students prefer various forms of social activity, implement socially-oriented activity, and show the specifics of risk-taking. Study design. The paper analyzes the level indicators of adherence to different forms of social activity of students, depending on the type of their subject regulation; a typological analysis of risk propensity and uncertainty experiences in students with Autonomous and dependent types of subject regulation; the hypothesis of direct and indirect effects of autonomy on General and socially-oriented activity using structural modeling. Participants. The study involved 297 full-time students (36% men), average age M=21; SD=2.74. Measurements. The scale for the assessment of various forms of social activity, feelings of uncertainty with a dimension of from 1 to 5, the method of evaluating component and composite index of socio-oriented activity (R.M. Shamionov, M.V. Grigorieva), a questionnaire of autonomy-dependence (G.S. Prygin), a questionnaire of tendency to extreme and risky behavior (M. Zuckerman). Results. Students with an Autonomous type of subject regulation are more committed to leisure, socio-political, and civic activity, while students with a dependent type are more committed to protest activity. Socially-oriented activity is more attractive to students with an Autonomous type of subject regulation. Students with an Autonomous type of regulation are characterized by higher indicators of non-adaptive striving for difficulties, with a Dependent type-indicators of searching for new impressions and experiencing uncertainty. The continuous indicator of (Autonomous) subject regulation has a direct impact on variations in socially-oriented activity, and indicators of risk propensity are moderators of a direct causal relationship, respectively, of autonomy to socially-oriented activity and age to the overall activity of students. Conclusions. Students with Autonomous and Dependent types of subject regulation are characterized by specificity in their commitment to various forms of activity and their attitude to risk. The causal relationship of subject regulation on variations of socially-oriented activity is established.

A Web-Based Honeypot in IPv6 to Enhance Security

Keyong Wang, Mengyao Tong, Dequan Yang et al.

IPv6 is a next-generation IP protocol that replaces IPv4. It not only expands the number of network address resources but also solves the problem of multiple access devices connected to the Internet. While IPv6 has brought excellent convenience to the public, related security issues have gradually emerged, and an assessment of the security situation in IPv6 has also become more important. Unlike passive defense, the honeypot is a security device for active defense. The real network application and the fake network application, disguised by the honeypot, are located on a similar subnet, and provide a network application service; but, in both cases, behavior logs from unauthorized users are caught. In this manner, and to protect web-based applications from attacks, this article introduces the design and implementation of a web-based honeypot that includes a weak password module and an SQL inject module, which supports the IPv6 network to capture unauthorized access behavior. We also propose the Security Situation Index (SSI), which can measure the security situation of the network application environment. The value of SSI is established according to the different parameters that are based on honeypots. There is a firewall outside the test system environment, so the obtained data should be used as the real invasion data, and the captured behavior is not a false positive. Threats can be spotted smartly by deploying honeypots; this paper demonstrates that the honeypot is an excellent method of capturing malicious requests and can be measured with the SSI of the whole system. According to the information, the administrator can modify the current security policy, which can improve the security level of a whole IPv6 network system.

The Double Educational-Sanctioning Objective in Brazil and in France: Different Organizational Configurations Directed to the Adolescent in Conflict with the Law

Juliana Vinuto, Dominique Duprez

The paper aims to discuss how the dual educational-sanctionary objective, based on the United Nations’ Doctrine for Child Protection, is implemented in three different institutions focused on sanctioning adolescents in conflict with the law. By comparing one Brazilian institution against two French ones, we were able to observe different possibilities to operationalize the principle that understands the adolescent as a developing subject, based on different connections between security and education. The exposed data suggests a trend to emphasize the sanctioning aspect, in spite of the different configurations observed in each context

Carolina Villagra-Bravo, Vanessa Valdebenito-Zambrano

Geographic potentialities of Las Peonias Lagoon (Venezuela) as a natural museum for the teaching of physical geography

Ramón Labarca, Belmary Barreto, Jorge Bernal

It is proposed to use the geographical potentialities of the Peonies lagoon scenario as a natural museum for the teaching of Physical Geography. The methodology is descriptive, projective, under a field design, not experimental. When diagnosing the «didactic resources», more than 80% of the respondents affirmed that the teacher does not use «directed and natural resources» in teaching. Regarding the «level of knowledge», there is weakness in the domain of the same, more than 75% of students did not succeed in the indicators «presence of lagoons», «presence of beaches and coastal dunes» and «sedimentation processes» of the Peonies lagoon. A proposal for a natural museum was designed based on the scenario of the referred lagoon, materialized in a guided tour that includes five (5) stations.
