Epistemic uncertainty arises in lack of complete knowledge about the state of a system. There are multiple mathematical frameworks for measuring such uncertainty quantitatively, often referred to as imprecise probability theories. Inspired by work of Opdan, we introduce a general category theoretic definition of epistemic calculi, which we use as a foundation for modelling and studying contradictions and synergies between several philosophical epistemological concepts. We further develop an enriched category theoretic process for changing calculi, and use this to study relationships between existing examples, like possibility theory and certainty factors. Finally, we introduce a general categorical form of belief updating based on change of enrichment, and prove that Bayesian updating and possibilistic conditioning arise as examples.

Introduction. Ontologies as knowledgebases have been heavily applied in computational biological studies by implementing into ML models for purposes such as disease-gene associations identification. Method. We conduct a case study using gene ontology (GO) annotation data and three ML models to replicate the prediction of autism spectrum disorder (ASD)-causing genes. Analysis. Data were collected from GO and Simmons Foundation Autism Research Initiative (SFARI). The semantic similarities between GO annotation terms on gene products were calculated. Results. The best-performing model can reach an AUC of .85, which means using GO annotation data for ASD disease-gene prediction can receive a significantly accurate result. However, we stress the importance of constructing knowledgebases in adapting to LLMs and the role of LIS professionals in curating community knowledge for interoperability and reuse. Conclusions. Biomedical ontologies play a crucial role in the discovery of biomedical knowledge. Knowledge organization and computer science domains require more communication and synchronization in the face of emerging AI and ML technologies.

Os ambientes dígito-virtuais voltados para a temática LGBTQ+ configuram importantes espaços de acesso e compartilhamento de informações, ao convergir conteúdos sobre existências dissidentes e historicamente marginalizadas, evocar sua cultura e memória, além de dar visibilidade às suas narrativas em múltiplas perspectivas. Tais ambientes demandam estudos que analisem as principais características presentes na estruturação, no acesso e no compartilhamento da informação para possíveis melhorias nos processos infocomunicacionais. As convergências entre o Design da Informação e a Curadoria Digital, alinhadas ao Design de Experiência, possibilitam analisar aspectos inerentes à estruturação, organização e apresentação da informação em ambientes dígito-virtuais. Desse modo, objetivou-se explorar iniciativas nacionais e internacionais para a comunicação de informações sobre à temática LGBTQ+; identificar e descrever a presença de elementos do Design da Informação, convergidos à Curadoria Digital, na perspectiva do Design de Experiência e verificar as contribuições da intersecção das referidas disciplinas para a otimização do acesso, do compartilhamento e da apropriação da informação em ambiente dígito-virtual. A metodologia utilizada foi de caráter qualitativo e de abordagem teórica, exploratória e descritiva, por meio da aplicação do método Design Thinking nas fases de Empatia, Definição e Ideação. Os resultados demonstraram que os recursos dispostos nos ambientes correspondem à utilização de representações sígnicas próprias do contexto cultural específico, visíveis através de vocabulário característico, articulação de ícones e cores representativas, estruturadas mediante uma linguagem multimodal. Verificou-se a presença de múltiplos elementos que estabelecem um processo infocomunicacional com significação contextual aos sujeitos LGBTQ+.

In recent years, the drug situation in China has generally stabilized, and according to official Chinese statistics, the number of drug addicts is reducing. However, China remains one of the key sources of synthetic drugs and precursors to other countries. The spread of narcotic drugs (synthetic opioids, cannabinoids, methamphetamine and others) threatens all countries. An important factor is that the Chinese government is able to control the large number of pharmaceutical manufacturers in the country , thus making it difficult for new types and modifications of drugs and psychoactive substances to appear on the market. In recent years, the PRC leadership has taken a number of effective steps to combat the uncontrolled production and distribution of illegal drugs, in particular, the state tightens control and regulation of the production of synthetic psychoactive drugs. China has strict laws against drug trafficking, which also serve as an effective deterrent against the distribution and consumption of illicit substances. Due to these measures, the international drug business is forced to move laboratories for the production of synthetic drugs from China to other nearby countries such as Myanmar and India. The situation with the international drug trade in the modern world requires concerted action at the interstate level. The interaction between law enforcement agencies of the SCO (the Shanghai Cooperation Organization) member states is a good example of cooperation in this area. One of the priorities of this organization is the fight against drug crime. At this stage, it is necessary to further deepen cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the SCO countries to identify established drug trafficking channels, fight against drug trafficking in the dark web and prevent the emergence of analogues to various psychotropic substances prohibited by law.

Let $V$ be a finite abelian group of odd order, equipped with a non-degenerate, alternating form $ω\colon V\times V \to \mathbb{Z}/m\mathbb{Z}$. We give closed formulas for the character values of the Weil representation associated with $(V,ω)$. These formulas generalize the ones given by S. Gurevich and R. Hadani (2007) and by T. Thomas (2008, 2013) from finite vector spaces to abelian groups. Our formulas do not involve the choice of a Lagrangian subgroup of $V$. Our proofs are based on an elementary algebraic approach introduced by H. N. Ward (1972, 2017) for finite vector spaces over fields.

The link between compressible models of tissue growth and the Hele-Shaw free boundary problem of fluid mechanics has recently attracted a lot of attention. In most of these models, only repulsive forces and advection terms are taken into account. In order to take into account long range interactions, we include for the first time a surface tension effect by adding a nonlocal term which leads to the degenerate nonlocal Cahn-Hilliard equation, and study the incompressible limit of the system. The degeneracy and the source term are the main difficulties. Our approach relies on a new L^infty estimate obtained by De Giorgi iterations and on a uniform control of the energy despite the source term. We also prove the long-term convergence to a single constant stationary state of any weak solution using entropy methods, even when a source term is present. Our result shows that the surface tension in the nonlocal (and even local) Cahn-Hilliard equation will not prevent the tumor from completely invading the domain.

Informational bias is widely present in news articles. It refers to providing one-sided, selective or suggestive information of specific aspects of certain entity to guide a specific interpretation, thereby biasing the reader's opinion. Sentence-level informational bias detection is a very challenging task in a way that such bias can only be revealed together with the context, examples include collecting information from various sources or analyzing the entire article in combination with the background. In this paper, we integrate three levels of context to detect the sentence-level informational bias in English news articles: adjacent sentences, whole article, and articles from other news outlets describing the same event. Our model, MultiCTX (Multi-level ConTeXt), uses contrastive learning and sentence graphs together with Graph Attention Network (GAT) to encode these three degrees of context at different stages by tactically composing contrastive triplets and constructing sentence graphs within events. Our experiments proved that contrastive learning together with sentence graphs effectively incorporates context in varying degrees and significantly outperforms the current SOTA model sentence-wise in informational bias detection.
