This chapter discusses the big five qualitative traditions/designs and others. It is divided into seven sections, and the first section discusses biography design. The types and steps of undertaking projects via biography design are highlighted in detail. The second and third sections address phenomenology and grounded theory designs respectively. The case study design is exposed in Section 4 while historical design is explored in Section 5. Section 6 contains information related to ethnography design. The readers will be able to understand the data collection and analysis procedures related to each and every design and the unique characteristics of the designs are exposed in this chapter. The chapter is concluded by a question and answer section, where important questions are suggested and answered.

Am Ende ihres fünften Ausbildungssemesters absolvieren die Kollegiat*innen des Oberstufen-Kollegs ein obligatorisches Kolloquium, in dessen Rahmen u.a. eine schriftliche Reflexion des individuellen Bildungsgangs in der Oberstufe vorzulegen ist. Dieser umfangreiche, bisher noch nicht systematisch erfasste Dokumentenpool wurde im Rahmen des Forschungs- und Entwicklungsprojekts „Oberstufe im Spiegel von Lern- und Bildungsgangreflexionen“ gesichtet, ausgewertet und für die Weiterentwicklung des Oberstufen-Kollegs nutzbar gemacht. Das Potenzial des Materials liegt insbesondere darin, dass Oberstufe hier konsequent aus Sicht der Lernenden betrachtet und beschrieben wird. Der Spiegel, den die Kollegiat*innen vorhalten, sollte nicht nur genutzt werden, um ganz allgemein einen anregungsreichen Blick auf die Wahrnehmung von hilfreichen Bedingungen, Anforderungen, Angeboten, Interventionen für ein oberstufengemäßes Lernen zu bekommen, sondern auch, um im Konkreten zu sehen, was am schulischen Handeln als wie fruchtbar oder hinderlich wahrgenommen wird. Der Blick auf die besondere Perspektive der Lernenden auf Leistungserbringung, Leistungsrückmeldung, pädagogische Beziehungen und fachliches Lernen und der wohl einzigartige Materialpool sind auch vielversprechend für einen Anschluss an den erziehungswissenschaftlichen Diskurs zur Oberstufe. At the end of their fifth semester, students at the Oberstufen-Kolleg complete an obligatory colloquium, during which they are required to submit a written reflection on their individual course of education on the upper secondary level. This extensive pool of documents, which has not yet been systematically evaluated, was reviewed and analysed as part of the research and development project “Oberstufe im Spiegel von Lern- und Bildungsgangreflexionen" [Upper Secondary School as Mirrored by Students’ Reflections on Their Course of Learning and Education] and has been made available for the further development of the Oberstufen-Kolleg. The potential of the material lies particularly in the fact that the upper secondary level is consistently reviewed and described from the learners’ perspective. The mirror held up by the students should not only be used to gain an inspiring general insight in the perception of helpful conditions, requirements, offers and interventions for upper secondary learning, but also to see in concrete terms what is perceived as fruitful or obstructive at school. The focus on the learners’ special perspective on school performance, feedback, pedagogical relationships and learning as regards content and the probably unique pool of materials are also promising to get connected to the Educational Scientific discourse on upper secondary schools.

This article explores the cultural, biographical, and personal foundations of the creative work of Sergei Parajanov, one of the most distinctive artists of the post-Soviet space. Particular attention is given to the influence of the multiethnic environment of Tbilisi, Armenian family traditions, and the region’s visual culture on the formation of Parajanov’s aesthetic and worldview. The author considers Parajanov a figure whose artistic strategy, heritage, and radical innovation are organically combined. The article also focuses on the director’s traits, including his experiences of imprisonment, personal loss, and a deep sense of otherness, all of which are reflected in his works' visual and conceptual structure. An original concept is introduced – to Parajanovize – to describe a specific artistic model of behavior characterized by provocation, irony, transgression, and deliberate norm violation. Parajanov’s collages and installations are analyzed as autonomous forms of his visual language, where existential intensity and iconographic richness become tools of self-expression. His numerous unfinished projects are discussed as an element of the tragic dimension of his creative biography.

Anita-Andreea SZÉLL: Über Hans Bergels literarisches Werk wurden mehrere Bücher und eine Vielzahl sehr unterschiedlicher Untersuchungen, Essays und literaturwissenschaftliche Studien veröffentlicht. Wie stehen Sie, Herr Bergel, zur wissenschaftlichen Wahrnehmung, zur wissenschaftlichen Annäherung an Ihre Schriften? Hans BERGEL: Zunächst die Feststellung, dass es m. E. keinen Bereich gibt, der für die wissenschaftliche Untersuchung tabu ist. Auch nicht die Literatur. Davon abgesehen: Sooft Literaturwissenschaftler oder –historiker mit ihrem spezifischen Instrumentarium Texte von mir „unter die Lupe“ nehmen, lese ich das Ergebnis mit dem Interesse des Außenstehenden. Denn immer wieder erschließen sich mir Betrachtungsweisen oder –möglichkeiten, an die ich niemals dachte. Dabei erfreut mich in der Regel nicht allein die analytische Klugheit, mit der die Könner zu Werke gehen, sondern jedesmal auch die neuen Methoden, deren sie sich bedienen. Ich denke da mit Vergnügen nicht zuletzt auch an Arbeiten, die Sie über Schriften von mir verfassten. A.A.Sz.: Mit meinem „Danke schön!“ verbinde ich die nächste Frage: Üben die Ergebnisse solcher Untersuchungen einen Einfluss auf den Schaffensprozess aus? H.B.: Nein. Das eine hat mit dem anderen nichts zu tun. Für den Schaffensprozess – was immer das sei – bleibt es zwangsläufig belanglos, da er von so vielen „Imponderabilien“, ein Wort Goethes, von so vielen Unwägbarkeiten bestimmt ist, unter denen diejenigen emotionaler Natur rational kaum erreichbar sind. Das stellt jedoch die Berechtigung wissenschaftlicher Beleuchtung des Kunstwerks nicht in Frage. Diese ist, wie gesagt, lediglich eine andere Domäne als die Kunst. The review reports a short biography of the Italian naturalized chemist Hugo Schiff and an outline on the synthesis and use of his most popular discovery: the imines, very well known and popular as Schiff Bases. Recent developments on their “metallo-imines” variants have been described. The applications of Schiff bases in organic synthesis as partner in Staudinger and hetero Diels-Alder reactions, as “privileged” ligands in the organometallic complexes and as biological active Schiff intermediates/targets have been reported as well.

The biography of the vice-president of the Council of Ministers, the minister of foreign affairs in the Marghiloman Government – Constantin C. Arion, presents us with a dignitary who comes from a family that has held political positions for six generations. The honor of the Arions is proven by the deeds of great political and historical importance achieved by the representatives of this family, being generals, magistrates, ministers, prime-presidents. Constantin C. Arion was the first president of the Bucharest Court of Appeal, starting his career as an excellent professor, then an honorary member and one of the founders of the Romanian Athenaeum, he presided over the “Critical Review of Law, Legislation and Jurisprudence” and was elected member of the Romanian Academy. His influence is recorded in various correspondences, which note the impact that C.C. Arion had on the careers of various dignitaries and scholars. Along with P. Carp and Al. Marghiloman, then together with T. Maiorescu, determined the course of major events that increased Romania’s international status. Many political combinations were projected around C. C. Arion, which determined the formation of a contradictory range of opinions on his personality.

Барбашинский могильник расположен на территории г.Самара и является крупнейшим некрополем мордвы золотоордынского периода в Самарском Заволжье. Первые изыскания на памятнике были организованы В.Н.Глазовым в 1907г. и В.А.Миллером в 1908 г. В дореволюционный период и в первые годы советской власти исследования на Барбашинском могильнике проводили краеведы К.П.Головкин (в 1916 и 1918 гг.), Г.О.Досталь (1909г.), П.Н.Ефимов (1918г.) и Ф.Т.Яковлев (1919 г.). В 1921г. раскопки на могильнике осуществлял А.С.Башкиров, в 1935 г. – Б.А.Латынин. В 2010-х гг. исследования были возобновлены Д.А.Сташенковым. За это время было изучено около 220 погребений, в том числе 56 мужских, из которых 38 – с топорами. В фондах СОИКМ им.П.В.Алабина хранятся 10 коллекций из раскопок на Барбашинском могильнике, из которых происходит 41 топор. В статье представлены результаты типологического анализа топоров Барбашинского могильника. Наиболее часто встречаются среднелезвийные клиновидные (11экз.), широколезвийные клиновидные (9экз.), среднелезвийные лопастные (11 экз.) инструменты. Единичные экземпляры имеют выраженные индивидуальные особенности – топор с молотообразным обухом и секирообразный широколезвийный топор. В целом, топоры Барбашинского могильника соответствуют традициям технологического производства золотоордынского периода, имевшего место на памятниках Самарского Заволжья и других регионов. Варианты положения топоров в погребениях различны – у головы, в руках, вдоль туловища у ног, во всех случаях лезвие повернуто наружу от тела, реже топор воткнут в землю. Наибольшая взаимовстречаемость у топоров прослеживается с ножами, наконечниками стрел, кресалами, пряжками и сюльгамами. Из орудий труда в комплекте с топором чаще всего встречается шило. Судя по антропологическим данным, возраст мужчин в захоронениях с топором Барбашинского могильника составлял от 20 до 60лет

Taking the localization of Mitchell’s Building Construction in Shanghai as a case study and a starting point and discussing British polytechnics, construction teaching and construction textbooks, this paper examines the transmission of technical knowledge to Chinese builders in Modern Shanghai. The paper provides the first systematic examination of Mitchell’s professional biography and the first review of the editions of his Building Construction textbooks. The paper shows that Mitchell’s textbooks built on rapidly evolving scientific knowledge in building technology in Britain, and how their success was attributed to the time, his construction pedagogy, their constant updates and their remarkable contribution to the building industry. A comparative analysis between Mitchell’s books and Du’s technical Dictionary and Yingzao Xue from an educational perspective, reveals Du’s insights into Mitchell’s powerful pedagogical tools of construction textbook writing, bridging different construction cultures – terminology learning, visual learning, and adaptive knowledge learning. Drawing from one of the most successful models of construction textbooks, Du’s contribution was to create a wholly new work – a distinct mixture that filled in the gaps and created a new discourse of Chinese Building Construction for the new global-local building industry in Shanghai
