Polyhedral reconstruction via Boundary Control method
Dimitra Kyriakopoulou
We study uniqueness of an elliptic Riemannian polyhedron using the elliptic version for Boundary Control method, which we presented in [1]. We also present interface detection criteria for hyperbolic Riemannian manifolds through introduction of the waveguide notion, the four-wave mixing notion, etc.
Measuring and Analyzing Subjective Uncertainty in Scientific Communications
Jamshid Sourati, Grace Shao
Uncertainty of scientific findings are typically reported through statistical metrics such as $p$-values, confidence intervals, etc. The magnitude of this objective uncertainty is reflected in the language used by the authors to report their findings primarily through expressions carrying uncertainty-inducing terms or phrases. This language uncertainty is a subjective concept and is highly dependent on the writing style of the authors. There is evidence that such subjective uncertainty influences the impact of science on public audience. In this work, we turned our focus to scientists themselves, and measured/analyzed the subjective uncertainty and its impact within scientific communities across different disciplines. We showed that the level of this type of uncertainty varies significantly across different fields, years of publication and geographical locations. We also studied the correlation between subjective uncertainty and several bibliographical metrics, such as number/gender of authors, centrality of the field's community, citation count, etc. The underlying patterns identified in this work are useful in identification and documentation of linguistic norms in scientific communication in different communities/societies.

FractionalDiffEq.jl is designed to be user-friendly and scalable, tackling different types of fractional differential equations, encompassing powerful numerical algorithms including predictor-corrector methods, product-integral methods, and linear multistep methods, etc, and providing a unifying API to accommodate diverse solver features. This paper illustrates the convenient usage of FractionalDiffEq.jl in modeling various scientific problems, accompanied by detailed examples and applications. FractionalDiffEq.jl leverages best practices in Julia to ensure the high performance of numerical solvers. To validate the efficiency of FractionalDiffEq.jl , we conducted extensive benchmarks that prove the superiority of FractionalDiffEq.jl against other implementations on both stiff and non-stiff problems. We further demonstrate its capability on several challenging real-life scenarios including parameter estimation in fractional-order tequila fermentation processes, and harmonic oscillator problems, etc, emphasizing the robustness and flexibility of FractionalDiffEq.jl.
The Contemporary Reception of a Feminist Icon: Translations of Mary Wollstonecraft’s A Vindication of the Rights of Woman in Twenty-First Century Spain
Sandra Llopart Babot
Mary Wollstonecraft’s A Vindication of the Rights of Woman (1792), is nowadays presented as a foundational text for modern feminism. Its rapid rendering into European languages such as French and German contrasts with the late translation into Spanish, which was not published until 1977. Nevertheless, the twenty-first century has witnessed a renewed interest in the figure of Wollstonecraft and her role as a precursor of the first feminist wave in Europe. Within this framework, this study examines Wollstonecraft’s public reception in Spain through contemporary (re)translations of her work. For this purpose, attention is paid to translations into Spanish and other co-official languages published during the first two decades of the twenty-first century, as well as the author’s public reception in Spanish newspapers. This research, thus, attests to the recent process of recovery of Wollstonecraft’s work in Spain and underscores her iconic role in contemporary local and international feminist discourses.

The impact of the AI revolution on asset management
Michael Kopp
Recent progress in deep learning, a special form of machine learning, has led to remarkable capabilities machines can now be endowed with: they can read and understand free flowing text, reason and bargain with human counterparts, translate texts between languages, learn how to take decisions to maximize certain outcomes, etc. Today, machines have revolutionized the detection of cancer, the prediction of protein structures, the design of drugs, the control of nuclear fusion reactors etc. Although these capabilities are still in their infancy, it seems clear that their continued refinement and application will result in a technological impact on nearly all social and economic areas of human activity, the likes of which we have not seen before. In this article, I will share my view as to how AI will likely impact asset management in general and I will provide a mental framework that will equip readers with a simple criterion to assess whether and to what degree a given fund really exploits deep learning and whether a large disruption risk from deep learning exist.
Vuoti d’immagine: rimozioni e false memorie
Giuseppe Carrara

The paper aims to present the results of a survey of academic libraries about the adoption and perceived impact of Web 2.0 technologies. A total of 26 college libraries affiliated with Solapur University participated among the members. It was found that each library was using some form of technology, such as RSS, blogs, social networking sites, wikis, and instant messaging. Analyzing the entire college web technology usages, it is observed from the results that most of the web technologies are not used by the mainstream of the users due to lack of awareness, training, etc. Accurate and appropriate training should be conducted by the colleges' Libraries according to the necessities of the users. Systematic training will inevitably help the user for the maximum utilization of e-resources of the library. The leading web technologies such as internet surfing, emails, search engines, wikis, photo sharing, etc. are used by a great number of users on a daily and weekly basis of frequency. On the other hand majority of the web technologies are never used by a great number of users.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the ways in which sex and games interplay in the literary works of David Foster Wallace, Michel Houellebecq and Walter Siti. In particular I will focus on the representation of sexual games highlighting the discourse on the desire for power and control through which the characters try to cope with the loss of love and meaning in the contemporary world.

NTP : A Neural Network Topology Profiler
Raghavendra Bhat, Pravin Chandran, Juby Jose
et al.
Performance of end-to-end neural networks on a given hardware platform is a function of its compute and memory signature, which in-turn, is governed by a wide range of parameters such as topology size, primitives used, framework used, batching strategy, latency requirements, precision etc. Current benchmarking tools suffer from limitations such as a) being either too granular like DeepBench [1] (or) b) mandate a working implementation that is either framework specific or hardware-architecture specific or both (or) c) provide only high level benchmark metrics. In this paper, we present NTP (Neural Net Topology Profiler), a sophisticated benchmarking framework, to effectively identify memory and compute signature of an end-to-end topology on multiple hardware architectures, without the need for an actual implementation. NTP is tightly integrated with hardware specific benchmarking tools to enable exhaustive data collection and analysis. Using NTP, a deep learning researcher can quickly establish baselines needed to understand performance of an end-to-end neural network topology and make high level architectural decisions. Further, integration of NTP with frameworks like Tensorflow, Pytorch, Intel OpenVINO etc. allows for performance comparison along several vectors like a) Comparison of different frameworks on a given hardware b) Comparison of different hardware using a given framework c) Comparison across different heterogeneous hardware configurations for given framework etc. These capabilities empower a researcher to effortlessly make architectural decisions needed for achieving optimized performance on any hardware platform. The paper documents the architectural approach of NTP and demonstrates the capabilities of the tool by benchmarking Mozilla DeepSpeech, a popular Speech Recognition topology.
Artap: Robust Design Optimization Framework for Engineering Applications
David Pánek, Tamás Orosz, Pavel Karban
The main goal of the Artap project is to provide an extensive infrastructure for robust design optimization, where usually many different numerical solvers have to be used together and the impact of the manufacturing uncertainties have to be minimized. Artap is an open-source software platform, developed jointly with the coupled numerical field solver, Agros Suite. Artap ensures interfaces for a broad collection of optimization algorithms (genetic and evolutionary algorithms, various interfaces to libraries such as Nlopt, Bayesopt, etc .), tools for machine learning (neural networks, Gaussian processes, etc. ), finite element solvers (Agros Suite, Comsol, Multiphysics, deal.II). The implemented tools offers an easy and straightforward solution not only for robust design optimization but parameter identification, model order reduction, and shape optimization, as well. Moreover, Artap provides automatic parallelization of the optimization process. The paper presents the structure of the framework and technologies powering the project. The main features of Artap are demonstrated on an induction brazing process design tasks.
Dynamic Feature Scaling for K-Nearest Neighbor Algorithm
Chandrasekaran Anirudh Bhardwaj, Megha Mishra, Kalyani Desikan
Nearest Neighbors Algorithm is a Lazy Learning Algorithm, in which the algorithm tries to approximate the predictions with the help of similar existing vectors in the training dataset. The predictions made by the K-Nearest Neighbors algorithm is based on averaging the target values of the spatial neighbors. The selection process for neighbors in the Hermitian space is done with the help of distance metrics such as Euclidean distance, Minkowski distance, Mahalanobis distance etc. A majority of the metrics such as Euclidean distance are scale variant, meaning that the results could vary for different range of values used for the features. Standard techniques used for the normalization of scaling factors are feature scaling method such as Z-score normalization technique, Min-Max scaling etc. Scaling methods uniformly assign equal weights to all the features, which might result in a non-ideal situation. This paper proposes a novel method to assign weights to individual feature with the help of out of bag errors obtained from constructing multiple decision tree models.
