Even periodization of spectral stacks
Rok Gregoric
We introduce the operation of even periodization on nonconnective spectral stacks. We show how to recover from it the even filtration of Hahn-Raksit-Wilson, and (a Nygaard-completion of) the filtered prismatization stack of Bhatt-Lurie and Drinfeld. We prove that the moduli stack of oriented elliptic curves of Goerss-Hopkins-Miller and Lurie is the even periodization of the spectrum of topological modular forms. Likewise, the chromatic moduli stack, which we previously studied under the name of the moduli stack of oriented formal groups, arises via even periodization from the sphere spectrum. Over the complex bordism spectrum, we relate even periodization with the symmetric monoidal shearing, in the sense of Devalapurkar, of free gradings.
Variations in Dominant Wave Period in the Solar Atmosphere
Pradeep Kayshap, K. Murawski, Z. E. Musielak
et al.
Waves are an integral part of the solar atmosphere, and their characteristics (e.g., dominant period, range of periods, power, and phase angle) change on a diverse spatio-temporal scale. It is well well-established observationally that the dominant periods of solar oscillations are 5-min and 3-min in the photosphere and chromosphere, respectively. This shows that the wave spectra and their dominant periods evolve between these two layers. We present observational results that demonstrate variations of the dominant period with heights in the photosphere and chromosphere. Six photospheric absorption lines and one chromospheric line are analyzed by using the IRIS data, and the Doppler velocity time series at seven different atmospheric heights are determined. The wavelet analysis is applied to these time series, and the resulting spectrum of wave periods and its dominant period are deduced at these heights, which gives height variations of the dominant period. The obtained data shows that the dominant period decreases with height, and that there are also changes in the range of wave periods within the spectrum. Numerical simulations of filtered wave spectra through the solar atmosphere are also performed, and the obtained results match the observational data.
‘The Last New Novel’: Valuation Strategies in Reviews of Fiction Published in the Athenaeum and the Saturday Review, 1855–59
Anne-Marie Millim
This article investigates two seminal Victorian periodicals during the critical period of 1855–59 — the Athenaeum (1828–1921) and the Saturday Review of Politics, Literature, Science and Art (1855–1938). I examine the rhetorical and typological strategies underlying the attribution of value in reviews of fiction and illustrate the generic complexity of this prominent form. I show that, beyond its overt interest in enabling or preventing the sale of novels, the mid-century book review takes an economic outlook in the methodological and hermeneutic processes through which literary value is defined and communicated by reviewers. Reviewers writing for the two periodicals at hand can be seen to display an economic orientation in their typology and epistemology, employing forms of quantification that stretch from the counting of specific elements to the abstract non-numerical calculation mimicking the logic of a balance sheet customary in commercial bookkeeping.
From Additions to the Dictionary “Russian Writers”. Two Authors of “Minor Press”
Abram I. Reitblat
The final (seventh) volume of the biographical dictionary “Russian Writers. 1800–1917”, published since 1989, is expected to be released soon. The dictionary has become an important event for Russian humanities and culture. Both the depth and accuracy of the development of biographies of 19th century writers, with the wide involvement of new (including archival) materials, and the wide coverage of names included in the dictionary are unique. The dictionary contains more than 3,000 Russian writers, critics, and publicists, many scholarly biographies are presented for the first time. At the same time, a greater number of pre-revolutionary writers remained outside the dictionary. This publication presents articles about two such writers — Nikolai Glushitsky and Rostislav Stupishin. Both were actively published in secondary mass periodicals of the 1860–1870s, but their names have not survived in the history of “great” Russian literature. Supplements to the dictionary “Russian Writers” will help to expand its boundaries.

Meta-Analysis of Animal Experiments on Astragali Radix or Its Ingredients for Acute Pancreatitis
CAO Xingxin, LI Aiyi, HOU Jinghan
et al.
ObjectiveBased on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, to obtain precise and reliable comprehensive effect conclusions by quantitatively combining pharmacodynamic results from animal experiments investigating Astragali Radix (single-entity Astragali Radix preparation) or its ingredients for treatment of acute pancreatitis (AP) in literature reports through meta-analysis.MethodsDatabases including China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals (VIP), Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform, China Biomedical Literature Database (CBMdisc), PubMed, and Web of Science (WOS) were searched from inception to March 2025 for animal studies related to Astragali Radix (single-entity Astragali Radix preparation) or its ingredients for AP treatment. Risk of bias for included studies was assessed with SYRCLE tool. Heterogeneity among studies was evaluated according to Cochrane Handbook using Cochrane's Q test and I² statistic. Sensitivity analysis was performed using the leave-one-out method, and publication bias risk was detected using Egger's test.ResultsA total of 297 articles were retrieved, and after screening and evaluation, 19 animal studies were finally included for meta-analysis. These 19 publications cover SD rats, as well as three breeds of mice: C57BL/6 mice, BALB/c mice, and Kunming mice. SYRCLE scores ranged from 3 to 4. The results of the sensitivity analysis showed that no study significantly affected the heterogeneity index. The results of Egger's test showed a significant publication bias with P<0.05. Cochrane's Q test and I² statistic indicated substantial heterogeneity among studies. Meta-analysis results of 19 animal studies showed that single-entity Astragali Radix preparation (Astragali Radix injection) could reduce serum amylase (AMY) levels, an AP-specific indicator. The Astragali Radix ingredients could decrease both AMY and lipase (LPS) levels. Astragali Radix injection or its ingredients could reduce serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin (IL) -6, and IL-1β, while increasing IL-10 levels; could increase serum levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and decrease malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. High-dose groups of Astragali Radix injection or Astragali Radix ingredients were more effective than low-dose groups in reducing AMY, TNF-α, and IL-6 levels and increasing SOD levels, but dosage effect on MDA levels was not demonstrated.ConclusionEvidence-based analysis of animal experiment results shows that in various animal models including SD rats, C57BL/6 mice, BALB/c mice, and Kunming mice, Astragali Radix injection or its ingredients can effectively reduce expression or secretion levels of AP-specific indicators (AMY and LPS). The mechanisms may be related to some inflammatory mediators, including reducing TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β levels and increasing IL-10 levels; They may also intervene in oxidative/antioxidative equilibrium, such as increasing SOD and GSH-Px levels and reducing MDA levels. Except for MDA, dose–response relationships are shown for reducing AMY, TNF-α, and IL-6 levels and increasing SOD levels with Astragali Radix injection or its ingredients. However, due to high heterogeneity, potential publication bias risk, and species differences between animal models and human diseases in existing studies, further high-quality clinical trials or animal experiments are still needed in the future.
Percepciones e implicaciones del cuidado compasivo en una institución hospitalaria especializada de Medellín
Elena Suárez Cadavid, Julia Restrepo Arango, Mariantonia Lemos Hoyos

Comparison of the efficacy and safety of different doses of atropine for myopic control in children: a meta-analysis
Peixian Hou, Peixian Hou, Dawen Wu
et al.
Purpose: To comprehensively reassess the efficacy and safety of different concentrations of atropine for retarding myopia progression and seek the most appropriate therapeutic concentration for clinical practice. Methods: We searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, Chinese Science and Technology Periodicals (VIP) and China National Knowledege Infrastructure (CNKI) from their inception to 23 March 2023, to obtain eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies that had atropine in at least one treatment arm and placebo/no intervention in another arm. We evaluated the risk of bias of the RCTs according to the recommendations of the Cochrane Collaboration for RCTs and quality of cohort studies by the Newcastle‒Ottawa Scale. Weighted mean difference (WMD), 95% confidence interval were calculated for meta-analysis. All data analyses were performed using Review Manager 5.3, STATA 12.0 and SPSS 26.0 software. Results: A total of 44 studies were included in the meta-analysis. Weighted mean difference (WMD) were 0.73 diopters (D), 0.65 D, 0.35 D per year in refraction progression (χ2 = 14.63, I2 = 86.3%; p < 0.001) and −0.26 mm, −0.37 mm, −0.11 mm per year in axial length progression (χ2 = 5.80, I2 = 65.5%; p = 0.06) for high (0.5%–1%), moderate (0.1%–0.25%), and low (0.005%–0.05%) dose atropine groups, respectively. Logarithmic dose‒response correlations were found between atropine and their effect on change of refraction, axial length, accommodation and photopic pupil diameter. Through these curves, we found that atropine with concentrations ≤0.05% atropine resulted in a residual value of accommodation of more than 5 D and an increase in pupil diameter no more than 3 mm. Higher doses of atropine resulted in a higher incidence of adverse effects, of which the incidence of photophobia was dose-dependent (r = 0.477, p = 0.029).Conclusion: Both the efficacy and risk of adverse events for atropine treatment of myopia were mostly dose dependent. Comprehensively considered the myopia control effect and safety of each dose, 0.05% may be the best concentration of atropine to control myopia progression at present, at which myopia is better controlled and the side effects are tolerable.Systematic Review Registration:https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/#recordDetails, CRD42022377705.

Large amplitude periodic outbursts and long period variables in the VVV VIRAC2-$β$ database
Zhen Guo, P. W. Lucas, L. C. Smith
et al.
The VISTA Variables in the Via Lactea (VVV) survey obtained near-infrared photometry toward the Galactic bulge and the southern disc plane for a decade (2010 - 2019). We designed a modified Lomb-Scargle method to search for large-amplitude ($Δ$Ks > 1.5 mag) mid to long-term periodic variables (P > 10 d) in the 2nd version of VVV Infrared Astrometric Catalogue (VIRAC2-$β$). In total, 1520 periodic sources were discovered, including 59 candidate periodic outbursting young stellar objects (YSOs), based on the unique morphology of the phase-folded light curves, proximity to Galactic HII regions and mid-infrared colours. Five sources are spectroscopically confirmed as accreting YSOs. Both fast-rise/slow-decay and slow-rise/fast-decay periodic outbursts were found, but fast-rise/slow-decay outbursts predominate at the highest amplitudes. The multi-wavelength colour variations are consistent with a variable mass accretion process, as opposed to variable extinction. The cycles are likely to be caused by dynamical perturbations from stellar or planetary companions within the circumstellar disc. An additional search for periodic variability amongst YSO candidates in published Spitzer-based catalogues yielded a further 71 candidate periodic accretors, mostly with lower amplitudes. These resemble cases of pulsed accretion but with unusually long periods and greater regularity. The majority of other long-period variables are pulsating dusty Miras with smooth and symmetric light curves. We find that some Miras have redder $W3 - W4$ colours than previously thought, most likely due to their surface chemical compositions.

Comprehensive Listing of 156 Reliable Orbital Periods for Novae, Including 49 New Periods
Bradley E. Schaefer
I report on a large-scale search for the orbital periods (P) of most known nova systems, by looking for significant, coherent, and stable optical photometric modulation in two or more independent light curves taken mostly from the large surveys of TESS, Kepler, AAVSO, SMARTS, OGLE, ASAS, and ZTF. I have discovered 31 new orbital periods. Further, I have measured new periods for 18 novae with evolved companions, to 30 per cent accuracy, as based on their spectral energy distribution. Also, I have confirmed, improved, and rejected prior claims for P in 46 novae. (As part of this effort, I recognize that 5 novae display 1--3 coherent, significant, and transient periodicities 0.12--4.1 days, with these being mysterious as not being the orbital, spin, or superhump periods.) In all, I have compiled a comprehensive list of 156 reliable P values for novae. The histogram of nova periods shows a minimum P at 0.059 hours (85 minutes), and a Period Gap from 0.071--0.111 days (1.70--2.66 hours). The upper edge of the Period Gap is significantly different between novae (0.111 days), nova-like systems (0.131 days), and dwarf novae (0.141 days). A further issue from the histogram is that 31 per cent of nova systems have evolved companions, for which there has been no models or understanding for their current state or evolution. For the novae with red giant companions, 15-out-of-20 are in the bulge population, despite novae with main-sequence and subgiant companions having bulge fractions near 0.11--0.32.
Improving the Experience of Providing Care in Community-Based Pharmacies
Jon C. Schommer, SuHak Lee, Caroline A. Gaither
et al.
This study applied a human factors and ergonomics approach to describe community-based pharmacy personnel perspectives regarding how work environment characteristics affect the ability to perform the duties necessary for optimal patient care and how contributors to stress affect the ability to ensure patient safety. Data were obtained from the 2021 APhA/NASPA National State-Based Pharmacy Workplace Survey, launched in the United States in April 2021. Promotion of the online survey to pharmacists and pharmacy technicians was accomplished through social media, email, and online periodicals. Responses continued to be received through the end of 2021. A data file containing 6973 responses was downloaded on 7 January 2022 for analysis. Qualitative thematic analysis was applied for developing operational definitions and coding guidelines for content analysis of the data. The patterns of responses for the dependent variables were compared among community-based practice setting types (chain, supermarket/mass merchandiser, and independent) and work positions (manager, staff pharmacist, technician/clerk, and owner). Chi-square analysis was used for determining statistically significant differences. The findings showed that personnel working in community-based pharmacies reported undesirable work environments and work stress that affected their ability to perform assigned duties for optimal patient care and ensure patient safety. Four work system elements were identified that were both facilitators and barriers to the ability to perform duties and ensure patient safety: (1) people, (2) tasks, (3) technology/tools, and (4) organizational context. Acknowledging local contexts of workplaces, giving adequate control, applying adaptive thinking, enhancing connectivity, building on existing mechanisms, and dynamic continuous learning are key elements for applying the HFE (human factors ergonomics) approach to improving the experience of providing care in community-based pharmacies.

Test Vectors for Archimedean Period Integrals
Peter Humphries, Yeongseong Jo
We study period integrals involving Whittaker functions associated to generic irreducible Casselman-Wallach representations of $\mathrm{GL}_n(F)$, where $F$ is an archimedean local field. Via the archimedean theory of newforms for $\mathrm{GL}_n$ developed by the first author, we prove that newforms are weak test vectors for several period integrals, including the $\mathrm{GL}_n \times \mathrm{GL}_n$ Rankin-Selberg integral, the Flicker integral, and the Bump-Friedberg integral. By taking special values of these period integrals, we deduce that newforms are weak test vectors for Rankin-Selberg periods, Flicker-Rallis periods, and Friedberg-Jacquet periods. These results parallel analogous results in the nonarchimedean setting proven by the second author, which use the nonarchimedean theory of newforms for $\mathrm{GL}_n$ developed by Jacquet, Piatetski-Shapiro, and Shalika. By combining these archimedean and nonarchimedean results, we prove the existence of weak test vectors for certain global period integrals of automorphic forms.
Predrag Manojlović: National mission of a sports visionary: Contribution to management of Olympic development
Jevtić Branislav
In the period from 2001 to 2009, a conscious effort was taken in Serbia on many occasions aimed at determining the ways of development of as many factors of the national sports system (NSS) and its associated environment as possible. The term "national mission of a sports visionary" in the title of this editorial indicates that the changes occurred thanks to the individual person. Using ex-post consideration of available material and through inductive reasoning, while striving to realize the vision of Predrag Manojlović, a scholar of progress and development in this field, the paper aimed at reaching conclusions about the professional and scientific foundation of changes in the NSS and the National Olympic Committee (NOC). In order to avoid a subjective approach to inferencing, the analyzed documents were compared with the results presented in periodicals of the same period in terms of their meaning, terminology, timeliness, action plans, etc. The results of this qualitative analysis should also be understood as a contribution to Olympic studies, namely to the subfield of thereof - Management of Olympic Development. While reflecting on Manojlović's work, numerous examples of good practice models have been identified, which, through analysis of their wider meaning, have been classified into clusters of an innovative approach to sports organization and management: (1) NOC and its development, (2) an Athlete, (3) NSS and its development, (4) Sports coach, (5) Sponsors and donors, (6) the Republic of Serbia, (7) the Society of the Republic of Serbia, (8) Human resources for sports of the 21st century, (9) Multisport competitions, (10) Olympic studies and competencies of a leader of Olympic development, (11) International cooperation and the agenda of sports developments in Europe. The singularity of Manojlović, as a leader, stems from his open-mindedness. As a leader of Olympic development, his qualities were especially spirituality, morality, education, intelligence, comradery. He was dedicated to his task and aspired for achieving excellence, he was also brave, innovative, resolute, fair, discerning, reasonable, and principled. In the area of his work, Predrag Manojlović was ''Aretes'' - a true Olympian, an exceptional man, and his achievements in the field of sports stand out in many ways.
Orbit-induced spin precession as an origin of periodicity in periodically-repeating fast radio bursts
Huan Yang, Yuan-Chuan Zou
FRB 180916.J0158+65 has been found to repeatedly emit fast radio bursts with the period in roughly 16 days. We propose that such periodicity comes from orbit-induced, spin precession of the emitter, which is possibly a neutron star. Depending on the mass of the companion, the binary period ranges from several hundred to thousands of seconds. Such tight binaries have a relatively short lifetime, which does not likely come from the gravitational decay of a wide binary. We comment on the relation to GW190425 and the possibility in LISA and LIGO detections.
Collector and philatelic press in the RSFSR/USSR during the first half of the 1920s: From pluralism to monopolism
A.V. Yakub, N.V. Yakub
Periodicals is a “mirror” of society. On the one hand, they reflect the social and cultural climate of a particular historical epoch. On the other one, retain the memory of the past times. Magazines and newspapers can influence the public opinion and provide feedback in the management of society through the prism of ideology and propaganda, thereby serving the interests of the state. This paper considers collector periodicals of the Soviet Russia in the first half of the 1920s. During this period, all printed materials were either private or state-owned. The publishing development and the editorial attitudes in the collector periodicals of that time were determined by the Soviet reality and reflected it. For this reason, the Soviet collector periodicals, including philatelic magazines, serve as an invaluable source of evidence of the growing pressure produced by the party policies in propaganda, agitation, and publishing industry. A number of periodicals that received little support from the state were unable to engage in any pro-active resistance. In the early 1920s, the number of collector periodicals rocketed. By the end of 1922–first half of 1923, the dialog between them finally turned into a monologue of one edition promoting the positions of the state. As a result, the privately owned collector magazines disappeared. The remaining magazine turned out to perform mostly ideological and educational functions. Therefore, the general tasks and problems of collecting, in particular the philatelic ones, were replaced by the vital economic problems making the collector periodicals a tool used for bringing up an ideal Soviet person.

Organization of elections among the native and foreign population in the first State Duma
A. A. Andreev
The study is devoted to the elections to the first Russian parliament among the representatives of the so-called “native” and “foreign” population of the Russian Empire. It is shown that in the conditions of the revolutionary events of 1905-1906 at the highest bureaucratic level for Russian absolutism, the fundamental issue was the issue of delegating part of the legislative initiative to elected representatives of society. It is noted that under pressure from local administrations - the Turkestan Governor-General and Caucasian Viceroyalty - it was decided to entrust voting right in a truncated form to the peoples of the Caucasus (Caucasian Viceroyalty), Turkestan Territory (Semipalatinsk Oblast), the Steppe Territory and the nomadic foreigners of Russian provinces and regions. It is indicated that a comparative analysis of official documentation on elective production and periodicals on the outskirts allows us to consider in detail the very process of the first elections, its differences and similarities in parts of the empire. The author concludes that the election rules proposed by the center made it possible for people who are not connected with the local administration to be represented by their people in the first State Duma. The analysis of the biographies of the candidates showed that the ethnic factor played a greater role than their political views.

Bunin in the Interwar Poland. A Failed Tour
Iwona Anna Ndiaye
The following paper explores the reception of Ivan Bunin’s literary legacy in the interwar Poland. The question of how The Nobel Prize in Literature influenced the writer’s popularity in Poland. The main aim of this article is to analyze and characterize those circumstances, which became the reason for Bunin’s failure to visit Poland during his literary tour to the Baltic countries in 1938. Selected materials were taken from traditional card and online catalogues in the National Library of Poland and the University of Warsaw Library. They embrace the period from 1920 to 1940. The analysis, on the one hand, shows the problem of political relationships between the revived Polish state and young Soviet Russia and its role in the development of literary contacts in the interwar period. On the other hand, it allows us to draw conclusions about the political and literary dimensions of I. Bunin’s failed tour to Poland.

it can be said that the subject of ethics was first included in military veterinary medical education in 1917 in Ottoman era.
Duchovní hudba a česká hudební kultura v devadesátých letech minulého století
Eva Vičarová, Kateřina Janíčková
The study brings the synthetic overview of the Czech sacred music development in 1990– 2000. The Czech musical culture has shown the significantly increased interest in the genre of sacred music as the result of political and social changes after 1989. In addition to the composers devoted themselves to this area even before the revolution, a number of them newly composed the sacred music. Important sacred works of the past have also often found their way into the repertoire of professional musical ensembles. New institutions were established: Society of Sacred Music, Musica Sacra to provide the professional qualifications for church organists, church conservatories in Kroměříž and Opava. Sacred music became the common topic in music periodicals, especially Hudební rozhledy (Music Review), Opus musicum and Harmonie. Since 1999, Varhaník (Organist) has been published. Recordings of sacred music and several monographs were published.
