From Additions to the Dictionary “Russian Writers”. Two Authors of “Minor Press”
Abstrak
The final (seventh) volume of the biographical dictionary “Russian Writers. 1800–1917”, published since 1989, is expected to be released soon. The dictionary has become an important event for Russian humanities and culture. Both the depth and accuracy of the development of biographies of 19th century writers, with the wide involvement of new (including archival) materials, and the wide coverage of names included in the dictionary are unique. The dictionary contains more than 3,000 Russian writers, critics, and publicists, many scholarly biographies are presented for the first time. At the same time, a greater number of pre-revolutionary writers remained outside the dictionary. This publication presents articles about two such writers — Nikolai Glushitsky and Rostislav Stupishin. Both were actively published in secondary mass periodicals of the 1860–1870s, but their names have not survived in the history of “great” Russian literature. Supplements to the dictionary “Russian Writers” will help to expand its boundaries.
