The role of knowledge sharing in sustainable management for AI application success: evidence from Polish knowledge platforms

Izabela Sztangret

The article examines the role of knowledge sharing as a critical success factor in sustainable management, especially in the context of applying artificial intelligence (AI) solutions and implementing corporate sustainability directives. Based on a pilot study conducted among Polish companies involved in knowledge-sharing platforms, the research investigates awareness, application, and measurable effects of EU guidelines on responsible business conduct (CSDDD/CSRD). The findings demonstrate a significant but uneven uptake of the eight climate governance principles, with a particular gap in risk assessment practices. The article highlights sectoral challenges and the potential of AI for enhancing ESG data collection, reporting, and strategy implementation, while also addressing ethical and systemic limitations of digital tools in sustainability management.

Resilience in the logistics industry: a systematic literature review

Joanna Kos-Łabędowicz, Monika Kamińska, Danuta Zwolińska

The main objective of this article is to examine how organisational resilience is defined and its implications for logistics industry entities. For the purpose of a systematic literature review (SLR), bibliometric analysis and content analysis were used. The analysis reveals no unified definition of resilience in the logistics industry, though a common pattern defines it as an entity’s ability to achieve a desired outcome under disruptive conditions. The findings indicate that major disruptions, particularly the COVID-19 pandemic, are the primary reasons for the heightened research interest in this topic. The analysis carried out allows for further methodological work on systematising the concept of resilience in logistics activities (logistics industry), which is important in the context of maintaining the continuity of logistics processes, both from the point of view of supply chains and from the point of view of individual links. This is important from a cost perspective (analysis of the total cost of goods flow) as well as for building customer satisfaction.

Reporting of environmental information by Polish listed companies on the example of energy sector companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange for 2022-2023

Bogusław Wacławik, Joanna Popławska, Stanisław Bielski et al.

The purpose of the article is to discuss the reporting of environmental information on sustainability and ESG regulations in companies from the energy sector listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The article presents the results of the authors' own research on the extent of disclosure of environmental information among 14 companies in the energy sector listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange in 2022-2023. The methodology was based on a review of the literature on the subject, legal acts and own research, which used non-financial reports of listed companies in the energy sector on environmental information and indicators. The research problem undertaken by the authors was to investigate whether companies in the energy sector disclosed environmental information in the period before mandatory regulations in this regard. The results of the conducted research confirmed the authors' supposition that these companies published such information. At the same time, the scope of disclosed information differed quite significantly between companies. According to the authors, the article adds value to the literature on the subject, especially in terms of the collection of source material, its presentation and discussion. The information gathered in the empirical chapter can be used, among other things, to compare the scope of disclosure of environmental information of companies from Poland with companies from other countries in the energy sector. The topics of the article can form the basis for further detailed empirical research in this area.

Variability of the structure of investment expenditures for environmental protection in Polish voivodeships in the years 2005-2022

Agnieszka Mrozińska

The article discusses the issue of the changes in the structure of financing environmental protection in Poland and the voivodeships in the years 2005-2022. The study aims to assess changes in the structure of expenditure on fixed assets for environmental protection according to the directions of investment, divided into voivodeships. The analysis uses a research method based on the angle θ measure to analyse the intensity, pace and monotonicity of structure changes. This measure allows for precise assessment of structural changes, assigning different weights to shifts depending on the share size. The analysis is supplemented by assessing the evolution of structures by determining the average pace and their monotonicity. The study covered 288 seven-element structures, and the results indicate high intensity and chaotic changes in the examined structures of expenditure on environmental protection in the voivodeships. The presented research method can be one of the methods for assessing the effectiveness of implementing environmental policy provisions by observing changes in the expenditure structure.

Use of a multidimensional comparative analysis to evaluate a synthetic indicator measuring environmental management in rural areas in Poland

Mirosława Witkowska-Dąbrowska, Natalia Świdyńska

The main objective of this study has been to measure and evaluate changes in the values of metrics applied to environmental management systems implemented in rural areas in the years 2010 and 2022. The study included three provinces in Poland representing different socio-economic development classes. Two strategic research groups were distinguished within the provinces: rural municipalities and rural areas in urban-rural municipalities. With the Perkal method, a synthetic indicator was constructed to measure environmental performance in rural areas. The Pearson correlation coefficient was applied, leading to the results which substantiated the conclusion that the highest improvement of the environmental management indicator value was achieved in the province at the highest socio-economic development level, even though the sub-indicators did not improve between 2010 and 2022 in all the analysed groups. The management of the environment is a task mostly delegated to local governments. Proposing an environmental monitoring method can support making decisions at the level of local governments as regards directions in the management of the environment in a given area because the synthetic indicator created in this study comprises only these elements that can be moulded by actions undertaken by local governments.

Sustainable development of functional urban areas of voivodship’s capital cities in Poland

Anna Buslowska

Current global threats and changes undoubtedly justify conducting studies of sustainable development (SD) in different aspects. Researching this phenomenon in urban areas is important to formulate more accurate and important conclusions for urban policy. The aim of the paper is to assess the diversity of SD of FUAs of voivodship’s capitals in Poland, also with the level of development in different dimensions of sustainable development. The study, using the TOPSIS method, was conducted for 17 FUAs. This allowed us to assess that the level of differentiation of SDin studied FUAs is rather small. The highest levels of SD indices were observed in FUAs: Warsaw, Wrocław, the lowest in FUAs: Katowice-Gliwice and Łódź. Moreover, 65% of the studied units belong to the lower middle and lower-level classes of SD. It was also observed that the lowest result of SD indices was in the environmental-spatial dimension (in over 40% of studied FUAs).

Impression management in reporting environmental information in groups of the energy, raw materials and fuel sectors. Evidence from Poland

Melania Bąk, Marzena Strojek-Filus

Impression management is vital in disclosing non-financial information, including environmental information, in integrated reports. The purpose of the study is to identify and assess the effects of using the impression management strategies in presenting non-financial ecological knowledge in the integrated reports issued by capital groups from the energy, raw materials and fuel sectors, which have had a large share in the degradation of the natural environment for many years. The research was conducted based on two stages: the first stage – as part of the impression management strategy – focused on text analysis to identify the tools for thematic manipulation as well as visual and structural manipulation, and the second stage consisted in analysing the level of text readability using, i.a., FOG and Pisarek indices. The research findings regarding the selected business entities identified as the “polluters” of the natural environment confirm the application of various tools as part of the stakeholder impression management strategies, including manipulation using words, colour, pictures and text.

Identification and delimitation of problem areas on the example of the West Pomeranian voivodeship (Poland, EU)

Beata Skubiak, Mirosław Broniewicz

In Poland, even though there is already richer literature on the subject of the regional economy, there is still a need for knowledge on various dimensions and aspects of the development of problem areas. The reason for this is to search for ways to boost the country's development, to find new opportunities to activate both growth centres, as well as, and perhaps above all, to activate underdeveloped, backward areas burdened with hidden unemployment in agriculture and to activate those areas which lack features that favour the development of the modern, knowledge-based economy of the 21st century. The key problem addressed in this article is „what criteria should be taken into account when delimiting the problem areas in order for public intervention to be effective and to contribute to the desired changes?” This article presents the method of delimiting problem areas on the example of the “Five Capitals” model. The case study is the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland (EU).

Auge i crisi de la construcció i reparació naval a la Barceloneta

Eduard Page Campos

EFFECTS OF SUPPORTING TOURISM IN PODLASKIE VOIVODSHIP UNDER THE CROSS-BORDER COOPERATION PROGRAMME POLAND – BELARUS – UKRAINE 2007-2013

Sławomir Snarski

The purpose of the paper was to examine, on the example of Podlaskie Voivodship, if the disbursement of funds for the development of tourism in the framework of the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Poland – Belarus – Ukraine 2007-2013 was justifi ed and whether the funds were expended in an effi cient manner and on an adequate scale. The analysis was based on the secondary data of the Ministry of Regional Development, literature covering the research area and offi cial statistical data. The results of research and analysis on tourist traffi c in Podlaskie Voivodship indicated that despite the establishment of ambitious goal of improving and fully utilising the tourist potential of the Polish-Belarusian-Ukrainian borderland, it is impossible to clearly determine the degree of effectiveness of the programme in this respect due to a number of potentially signifi cant determinants of tourism development in the region. The paper comprises the fi rst in the existing body of literature detailed analysis of the effectiveness of tourism support under the programme, which may be a valuable diagnostic tool in defi ning the scope of other EU cross-border programmes in the future fi nancial perspectives as far as tourism is concerned.

SPATIAL FORMS OF NATURE CONSERVATION IN SPATIAL PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT

Jarosław Świdyński

Space may be divided into two basic components: the natural environment and the anthropogenic environment. Both components permeate one another. The desire for constant development exposes the natural environment to numerous threats; therefore, particularly important areas are included under legal protection. To make more effi cient use of limited space, planning documents are adopted, the content of which has to take into account the environmental determinants, including issues related to environmental protection. The paper presents the Polish system of nature conservation and spatial planning, along with mutual dependencies that connect both systems and their reciprocal influences.
