This article defends Digital Humanities (DH) against important epistemological challenges questioning its place within the humanities. It emphasizes that while DH incorporates digital technologies, notably AI technologies, it remains fundamentally aligned with the humanities through its focus on understanding and appreciating the creation of human-made things such as literature, philosophy, and culture. Addressing epistemic critiques of DH’s knowledge characteristics, its supportive roles in research, and the efficacy of its tools, the article advocates an anti-essentialist viewpoint. This approach proposes that DH’s diverse methodologies enrich rather than dilute the humanities. By applying the idea of anti-essentialism, especially Wittgenstein’s notion of family resemblance, to understanding the concept of humanities, the article argues for a broader, more inclusive understanding of the humanities, underscoring DH’s legitimate role in this evolving field.

Abstract Effective integration and implementation of knowledge in research are dependent on team science expertise grounded in collaboration principles and techniques that advance individual and group scientific agendas. The Science of Team Science (SciTS) provides evidence-based research and best practices that strive to develop scientists’ collaborative skills so that they can work across disciplinary boundaries while developing strong and diverse teaming relationships. Identifying the motivations of those involved in collaborative teaming can contribute to maximizing team effectiveness and applying the knowledge emerging from understanding these to shape teams’ adaptation of a shared mutual learning mindset as a core tenet of scientific teamwork. In addition, surfacing motivations has the potential of helping team members examine their own needs in relation to their scientific and career goals. In this paper we draw from the domains of the Motivation Assessment for Team, Readiness, Integration, and Collaboration (MATRICx) framework, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs motivational theory, and The Team Effectiveness Model for Science (TEMS) to develop a Reflective-Reflexive Design Method (R2DM) that focuses on the development of intra-personal attributes within the context of a team. Approaching expertise development from this design method invites individual reflection in the context of group reflexivity to serve as the cornerstone of deep team science expertise. We used a design thinking approach to identify a framework that merges individual reflection with group reflexivity. The core questions we asked are: (i) What constitutes expertise to succeed in science teams? and (ii) How might we approach the design of learning engagements that enable the development of the needed expertise?

This study examines the association between fiscal sustainability indicators and Egypt’s economic growth from 1980 to 2018. Fiscal sustainability refers to a government’s ability to generate sufficient revenue to cover its costs and debt obligations in the long run without excessive borrowing or money creation. Egypt’s economic growth has slowed, raising questions about fiscal sustainability. This study aimed to analyze the dynamic relationship between fiscal sustainability indicators (government revenue, expenditure, external debt) and economic growth in Egypt. The autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) bounds testing approach and unrestricted error correction model were applied to annual data from 1980 to 2018. A dynamic link was found between fiscal sustainability indicators and economic growth. Government expenditure and external debt significantly impacted economic expansion in the long term, while government revenue did not. Fiscal sustainability, measured by growth in total government expenses, external debt obligations, and revenue, significantly influences Egypt’s economic growth. Prudent fiscal management is crucial for sustained economic development. Policymakers should focus on controlling government spending, limiting external debt, and improving revenue generation to promote long-term economic growth in Egypt. Fiscal sustainability must balance critical investments in public services. Carefully managing fiscal deficits is key to unleashing Egypt’s economic potential. This study provides valuable insights into the connection between fiscal policy and economic growth in Egypt, informing policymakers’ decisions.

This paper critically reviews and observes the nature of contemporary careers and the orientation in which careers research has advanced over the past decade. The contemporary concept of career refers to an individual’s pursuit of career advancement without being restricted to a single job in a single company. Specifically, career concepts that appeared in the 1990s, including the protean and boundaryless career frameworks, and the next generation of career concept, including integrative frameworks, hybrid careers, and the kaleidoscope career model, are discussed. These models and theories all focus on the change in the concept of career management for individuals. This change occurred because of the developments taking place in this era, including economic aspects, globalization, and technology. This review aims to improve our understanding of careers in today’s dynamic work environment, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic and the rapid changes that Saudi Arabia is witnessing at all levels. The challenges facing individuals in career advancement during this period are different from previous ones, so researchers should study the effects of the pandemic on changing the behavior of individuals towards the concept of career management. This review provides a comprehensive discussion of current theories and offers major questions for future research.

The article shows what problems interested humanities scholars and publicists in the prewar period of the Soviet history and how these problems were covered from new methodological positions. The works created at that time by historians of the old school are examined, it is emphasized that even in articles written by authors who have not mastered Marxist theory, much attention is paid to the problems of the life of the masses, the manifestations of the class struggle, and public relations in Stavropol villages. The activity of local history societies and organizations is highlighted. Researchers paid much attention to the problems of the agrarian history of Stavropol, works of this time, as a rule, affect both the pre-Soviet and Soviet periods, since most of them give comparative material. In the 1920s, when the ways of agricultural development were not yet determined, the practical needs of the agricultural sector caused increased attention to the issues of developing cooperation, forms of land ownership and land use in the past. The restructuring of the economy in a socialist manner in the late 1920s and early 1930s is reflected in the journalistic articles of party and Soviet leaders. In the period under review, the history of the revolutionary movement and the struggle for power of the Soviets became the most relevant topics for research. The article discusses the activities of Eastparts - commissions on the history of the revolutionary movement and civil war. It is shown that these organizations, including the Stavropol Istpart, have done a lot to collect and publish materials on this topic. The analysis of journal publications is given, the errors made by the authors are revealed. The widespread publication of the memoirs of participants in revolutionary events, characteristic of the 1920s, was not accompanied by a critical check, therefore, over articles containing incorrect information or a controversial assessment of events, discussions arose in which both historians and participants in the events took part. The characteristic is given to generalizing works on the history of the October Revolution and the Civil war in the Stavropol Territory.

Abstract According to the current land policy of Ethiopia, rural households are legally allowed to access agricultural lands. Nonetheless, the difficulty of rural population in accessing farmlands makes controversial authenticity of this land tenure to solve problems of household farmland access. This study aimed at assessing the effects of the current land tenure on augmenting household farmland access in Ethiopia. The study followed a mixed-methods research design to investigate the variables in the study. Thus, data were collected through a survey questionnaire, focus group discussion and interviews between May and June 2019. For data analysis, both descriptive and inferential statistics methods were employed. Consequently, study results indicated that the mean farmland size per household was 1.59 ha and government land allocation accounted for 41.9%. The farmland accesses of households headed by persons below 35 years were 13% and that of all female-headed households was 23.2%. It also showed that there were illegal farmland accesses via furtive farmland purchasing. On top of this, 63% of respondents perceived that the current land tenure was not a good rule. The regression analysis showed that the number of oxen, total crop production; annual income, education, and credit access were determinants of household farmland size. In conclusion, farmland scare areas in Ethiopia like Arsi zone have problems of deficient government land allocation, as well as unforeseen illicit farmland transactions. Given augmenting household farmland access, the study recommended that female-headed households have to be empowered and younger-headed households should be encouraged to enhancing their farmland accesses. The farming community should affirm to legal land regulations for maintaining their tenure arrangements. The local government should work according to land rules to liquidate illicit land markets. The national government should mitigate imbalanced farmland access by enforcing land rule acts such as land redistribution and reallocation with the consultation of the people. All level governments should strictly control alarming illegal changes of farmlands to urban areas by illicit land transactions.

This essay discusses two novels by Gibraltarian writer M. G. Sanchez, Jonathan Gallardo (2015) and Solitude House (2015). In both novels, the protagonists are haunted by ghosts from the past, emerging from otherworlds, or parallel worlds, whose boundaries have become permeable. I argue that Sanchez’s literary otherworlds offer an incisive critique of border consciousness and residual colonialism in Gibraltar. In terms of genre, Sanchez’s writing oscillates between the postcolonial gothic and magical realism. Drawing on Jacques Derrida’s concept of ‘hauntology’, I argue that Gibraltar itself emerges as a spectre of colonialism, reminding both Britain and Europe of their history of colonial exploitation that comes back to haunt them in the shape of the victims of global carbon capitalism.

In 1983, Li Ang, a Taiwanese writer, adapted a case about the killing of a husband, committed by Zhan Zhou Shi in Shanghai in 1945, into the novel The Butcher’s Wife (1983). The case is also recorded in The Hearsay in Shanghai (1955) written by Chen Ding-Shan. The Butcher’s Wife depicts a woman who, due to her traumatized childhood and psychological condition caused by her husband and neighbours, kills her husband, a butcher, and dismembers the body the way he does pigs. Li Ang’s novel tries to offer a legal explanation to exonerate the butcher’s wife, Lin Shi, through a plea of insanity. In this article, I will compare the case of Zhan Zhou Shi both in the media and in The Hearsay in Shanghai with The Butcher’s Wife to illustrate Li Ang’s reinterpretation of the case and explain how Li Ang goes beyond the insanity pleas that strengthens a stereotypical image of insane female offenders.

This paper explores the articulation of resistance to neoliberal globalization in AlejandroGonzález Iñárritu’s Amores Perros, Alejandro Springall’s Santitos and Maria Novaro’s ElJardín del Edén. I argue that this resistance is enunciated within what Homi Bhabha terms‘Third Space’, the in-between space of cultural translation and negotiation where notions of anessential national identity are destroyed and a contingent and indeterminate hybrid identity isconstructed. Speaking from this hybrid space, these films employ Western cinematicconventions to construct narratives of the disjunctive experience of postcolonial time andspace that disrupt the dominant temporality and imaginative geography of Western grandnarratives of historical progress and global economic development, while at the same timedeterritorializing the space and time of national imagining.
