Does investment really drive local economic growth? Evidence from a non-metropolitan Indonesian city

Background: Investment is widely recognized as a key driver of economic growth because it expands productive capacity and stimulates structural transformation. However, most empirical studies on the investment–growth relationship focus on national or provincial scales, while city-level dynamics in non-metropolitan areas remain relatively underexplored. This gap limits the understanding of how capital formation operates within smaller regional economies characterized by different institutional capacities and sectoral structures. Aims: This study aims to examine the influence of investment on regional economic growth in Sungai Penuh City, Indonesia, during the 2020–2024 period. Methods: The research employs a quantitative explanatory approach using secondary time-series data obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics. Economic growth is measured using Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at constant prices, while investment is represented by Gross Fixed Capital Formation (GFCF). The relationship between variables is estimated using a log-linear regression model with the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method to identify investment elasticity in regional output. Result: The estimation results indicate that investment has a positive and statistically significant effect on regional economic growth. The elasticity coefficient of 0.967 implies that a 1 percent increase in investment is associated with an approximate 0.97 percent rise in regional output. The coefficient of determination (R² = 0.972) shows that investment explains a substantial proportion of the variation in economic growth during the study period. Conclusion: These findings highlight the critical role of capital formation in strengthening economic performance in non-metropolitan regions. The strong elasticity between investment and output underscores the importance of productive capital accumulation in supporting sustainable regional development and evidence-based economic policy formulation.

Las relaciones intergeneracionales en la educación formal. Una experiencia para el aprendizaje geográfico

El contacto intergeneracional constituye una fuente de indudable valor para el aprendizaje geográfico. Las relaciones entre personas jóvenes y mayores ofrecen oportunidades didácticas que han sido aprovechadas con cierta frecuencia en contextos formativos informales; sin embargo, el impulso de proyectos educativos que faciliten el vínculo entre generaciones ha sido menos frecuente en el ámbito de la educación formal y es a partir de la última reforma normativa cuando su importancia aparece recogida en los currículos oficiales. La presente propuesta analiza el potencial de la perspectiva intergeneracional en el marco del proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje de la Geografía y ofrece una experiencia práctica de su empleo en la Educación Secundaria Obligatoria (ESO). El proyecto “Cosechando experiencias” ha propiciado el acercamiento del alumnado a su entorno social mediante un proceso de aprendizaje activo, significativo y contextualizado que promueve actitudes de participación y transformación en el ámbito local y comunitario.

Through the yes-if schemes presented as 'success aids', we question the way in which university actors appropriate them, make them exist or what they think of them. In addition, we analyse the reasons for their investment, which is not without repercussions on the transformation of the university today. Indeed, the acceptance of this system by the universities could give the illusion of working for social equality and student success, even though they participate in a mechanism of depoliticization of the question of inequality in higher education.

Impacts of Pandemic among Private University Students in Southeastern Philippines: Insights for Educational Sustainability in the Post-COVID-19 Era

The COVID-19 pandemic influenced a paradigm shift in Philippine higher education. Educational institutions were challenged and impacted, compelling them to restrict physical interactions and transition to flexible learning modalities. This study investigates the impacts of COVID-19 on the education of private university students in the Davao Region, Southeastern Philippines. One hundred eighty-eight students participated in the survey via Google Forms, which was later analyzed using descriptive statistics. From them, a selected few were also invited to participate in qualitative inquiries to obtain an in-depth understanding of the problem under study. Although internet connectivity challenges emerge as a significant impediment, students prefer synchronous lectures and video conferences as learning modalities. Most of them are anxious, dealing with mental health and study habit issues. Interestingly, some respondents revealed that the pandemic positively impacted their lives. Students’ adaptive and creative skills helped them cope with the challenges of the new learning modalities. The administrators and faculty members may benefit from these findings in formulating online learning policies and teaching-learning strategies. These findings are helpful baseline to ensure educational sustainability during and after the health crisis.

A Graphical User Interface to Calculate Solar Radiation on Spreadsheets

Spreadsheets are ubiquitous and easily understandable. They are used for calculations in scientific quantitative analysis and graphing. Scientists have used spreadsheets for calculations, simulations, and graphical user interface (GUI) applications. In the current work, we develop a spreadsheet that can be used to calculate three types of solar radiation: direct beam solar radiation, (BSR), diffused solar radiation (DSR), and global solar radiation (GSR) for any region in the world. The necessary input data for the calculations are latitude, longitude, and prime meridian. The GUI calculates BSR, DSR, and GSR for a particular day of the month; i.e. the daily solar radiation, and for a specific time of the year; i.e. the year solar radiation. The GUI also compares three types of radiation in three cities. The spreadsheet can teach students about solar radiation and its dependence on geographical location. The student can use this GUI easily. This graphing utility differs from other online tools because it takes fewer inputs and provides accurate results.

A análise das fontes apoia-se nos referenciais propostos por Magalhães (2004), Nosella e Buffa (2007), segundo os quais compreender a genealogia de uma instituição educativa pressupõe relacionar a sua função social com o contexto no qual está inserida. Criada em 1909, a rede escolar analisada objetivou, sob a crença no industrialismo, a formação profissional para desvalidos da sorte. Em síntese, a investigação evidenciou os limites dessa proposta em uma sociedade de incipiente industrialização.

Rede social e comunicação ubíqua: o que podemos aprender com Black Mirror?

Este texto busca tecer reflexões em torno de práticas sociais mediadas pelo digital em rede retratadas no episódio intitulado Queda Livre da série Black Mirror. A proposta é discutir a relação entre interconectividade, popularidade e visibilidade na era da comunicação ubíqua com a intenção de ressignificar nossa própria experiência humana, que vem sendo cada vez mais mediada pelos processos comunicacionais digitais. Buscar inspiração na ficção de Black Mirror pode se constituir como um caminho potente para refletirmos sobre nossa humanização numa era marcada pela intensa produção e compartilhamento de dados entre usuárias/os geograficamente dispersas/os. Para além do caráter ficcional da série e das situações expressas no episódio, há ali um alerta para os extremos a que o uso dos dispositivos digitais pode nos levar, fazendo-nos refletir sobre a importância de se colocar em prática uma educação que amplie nossa visão sobre o potencial da interconectividade e seus desdobramentos. Que esses novos fenômenos ciberculturais nos permitam tecer reflexões profícuas para uma melhor compreensão das práticas sociais contemporâneas, pelas relações que vimos estabelecendo com as redes sociais, com a emergência da comunicação ubíqua e com a ressignificacão de novas experiências sociais que emergem atravessadas pelo digital em rede na vida cotidiana.

10 years of didactic training for novices in medical education at Charité

Introduction: Many medical faculties are introducing faculty development programmes to train their teaching staff with the aim of improving student learning performance. Frequently changing parameters within faculties pose a challenge for the sustainable establishment of such programmes. In this paper, we aim to describe facilitating and hindering parameters using the example of the basic teacher training (BTT) course at the Charité – Universtitätsmedizin Berlin (Charité).Project description: After sporadic pilot attempts for university education training, basic teacher training was finally established at the Charité in 2006 for all new teaching staff. An interdisciplinary taskforce at the office for student affairs designed the programme according to the Kern cycle of curriculum development, while the Charité advanced training academy provided the necessary resources. Within ten years more than 900 faculty members have completed the BTT (9% of current active teaching staff at the Charité). The BTT programme underwent several phases (piloting, evaluation, review, personnel and financial boosting), all of which were marked by changes in the staff and organizational framework. Evaluations by participants were very positive, sustainable effects on teaching could be proven to a limited extent.Discussion: Success factors for the establishment of the programme were the institutional framework set by the faculty directors, the commitment of those involved, the support of research grants and the thoroughly positive evaluation by participants. More challenging were frequent changes in parameters and the allocation of incentive resources for other, format-specific training courses (e.g. PBL) as part of the introduction of the new modular curriculum of the Charité. Conclusion: The sustainment of the programme was enabled through strategic institutional steps taken by the faculty heads. Thanks to the commitment and input by those at a working level as well as management level, the basic teacher training course is today an established part of the faculty development programme at the Charité.

Penerapan Bimbingan Kelompok untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Beradaptasi Siswa Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan

This research is a Classroom Action Research which aims to obtain data through cycles in treatment that is done through group guidance approach to adaptation of students. This study was conducted in two cycles with a duration of research for three months. The final result is: From 38 students as the subject is known 36 students or 95% of students are able to solve their problems with the form of adjustment in the classroom, school and community. 2 students or 5% of students still need individual guidance. Thus it is stated that the research using this group guidance method is very effective in solving student persolan through adaptation (adaptation) with the community both in the scope of SMK Negeri 2 Ambon or among student residence.

Análisis del texto breve extraliterario: elementos para una aproximación conceptual al minitexto

Se propone una aproximación teórica y didáctica al minitexto: categoría conceptual para el análisis y el tratamiento pedagógico de textos breves no literarios. La propuesta se fundamenta en cuatro paradigmas teóricos: uno correspondiente al enfoque bajtiniano del enunciado y los géneros discursivos; otro circunscrito por la lingüística textual y los estudios del discurso; un tercer enfoque relacionado con la teoría y la crítica de la minificción; y un cuarto paradigma que sugiere el aprovechamiento de las características de inmersión y entretenimiento que subyacen a los videojuegos como mecanismos para propiciar aprendizajes significativos.

Práticas de leitura e de escrita em História: diálogos com os direitos de aprendizagem em História

O presente artigo volta-se para um diálogo com os Direitos de Aprendizagem em História, a partir de um esforço reflexivo que busca situar a intrínseca relação entre leitura e escrita e ensino de história. Ao longo do texto, buscamos desenvolver tal argumento em duas direções. Em um primeiro momento, situamos as práticas de leitura e escrita que se realizam fora da escola como importantes referenciais na aprendizagem em história. Em um segundo momento, apontamos para a potencialidade de uma didática da história que tenha como referência as práticas de leitura e escrita de mundo realizadas pela criança. Para tanto, demarcamos a centralidade do procedimento histórico como método didático que, no diálogo com a experiência vivida pela criança, amplia e (re)significa suas leituras e escritas de mundo. Finalizamos o artigo com um diálogo mais direto com os Direitos de Aprendizagem em História a partir de uma perspectiva de História e de Ensino de História que situa a dimensão do conhecimento histórico e do procedimento histórico como ferramentas capazes de promover a (re) significação dos processos de leitura e escrita em história.

با توجه به جایگاه و اهمیت مدیریت مدارس و نقش آن در مسیر توسعه هر کشور، تحقیق حاضر تلاشی است برایتبیین مدل بومی مدیریت مدارس استان کرمان.در این تحقیق، مولفه های مدل مورد نظر از پیشینه و مبانی نظریموجود استخراج و سپس به تایید 20 نفر از اساتید رشته مدیریت آموزشی رسید.سپس پرسشنامه ای مبتنی بر اینالگوطراحی و نسبت به تعیین روایی سازه )از طریق تحلیل عاملی( و پایایی آن اقدام گردید و در ادامه این پرسشنامه دراختیار 325 نفر از دبیران مدارس متوسطه دولتی )دوره دوم – نظری( شهر کرمان قرار گرفت تا نظر شان را در خصوصوضعیت مدیریت مدارس مشخص نماید.نتایج نشان م یدهد که مدیریت مدارس از نظر 5 مولفه اصلی این مدل شاملکارکردها،دانش،مهارتها،اخلاق حرفه ای و ویژگی های شخصیتی و اخلاقی، تنها در دو بعد اخلاق حرفه ای و ویژگی هایشخصیتی و اخلاقی نمره ای بالاتر از متوسط کسب کرده و در سه بعد دیگر نمره کسب شده پایین تر از میانگین می باشد

Protecting the 'Na Plachtě' natural monument from development. A case study on the importance of public participation in environmental protection

Na Plachtě is located at the south-eastern edge of Hradec Králové where over the past 20 years conflicts of interests between environmentalists and local developers have arisen concerning the development and commercial use of the site. This case study is concerned with the importance of public participation in  environmental issues and describes the specific opportunities for influencing environmental decision-making. The author refers to specific events which eventually resulted in the declaration of the Na Plachtě site as a “natural monument”; she also investigates opportunities for changing the landscape plan which would strengthen  protection against any construction on the site. Other possibilities for influencing decision-making about issues of concern to the general public and which have an impact on the work of regional representatives are also discussed.

هدف از این مطالعه، بررسی رابطۀ بین فرهنگ سازمانی و استقرار مد یریت دانش دردانشگاه تربیت مدرس می باشد. کارکنان ستادی و اعضای هیئت علم ی، جامعۀ آمار یاین پژوهش را تشکیل می دهند. به منظور گردآوری داده های مورد نیاز از پرسشنامهفرهنگ سازمانی و مدیریت دانش استفاده شده است. یافته های پژوهش نشان داد کهفرهنگ سازمانی و استقرار مدیریت دانش از نسبتاً مطلوبی برخوردار هستند . همچنینمیان فرهنگ سازمانی و مؤلفه های آن شامل حمایت مدیریت، تعلق سازما نی، خلاقی تفردی و سبک رهبری با استقرار مدیریت دانش رابطۀ معن یداری وجود دارد . اما بینسازش با پدیدة تعارض و استقرار مدیریت دانش رابط ۀ معن یداری نیست . می توانچنین نتیجه گرفت که برای استقرار مدیریت دانش، فرهنگ سازمانی نسبت بهتکنولوژی و امثال آن جایگاه مهم تر ی دارد. بنابراین حفظ و تقویت شاخصه هایفرهنگی مؤثر بر مدیریت دانش باید از اولویت های دانشگاه تربیت مدرس باشد.

Risicoprofielen en het opsporen van fraude bij een Wwb-uitkering

High-risk profiles and the detection of social security fraud In the Netherlands, the detection of social security fraud has recently received a great deal of attention. One method which is quite frequently used to help predict fraud is to compile “highrisk” profiles. These profiles include those characteristics which are predictors of whether a person will or will not become engaged in social security fraud. At the Social Security Service in Rotterdam, research has been carried out to see if the characteristics stored in the files of the service to predict social security fraud could be used to create a high-risk profile to predict fraud. A second research question asks which factors are likely to be predictors of fraud and, in theory, have the potential to improve the predictive accuracy of high-risk profiles. Our research found a low predictive value for the characteristics included in the social security files in Rotterdam and thus that the high-risk profile is of limited usefulness in predicting fraud. However, it is possible to increase predictive accuracy by including factors such as the attitudes of the claimants towards social security fraud and the claimant’s opinion of the chances of being caught engaging in fraud. Caution should be exercised when using high-risk profiles to detect social security fraud. Risicoprofielen en het opsporen van fraude bij een Wwb-uitkering De laatste jaren is er binnen sociale diensten in Nederland veel aandacht geweest voor een strikt handhavingsbeleid ten aanzien van bijstandsuitkering. Het hanteren van een risicoprofiel is hierbij een veel gebruikte methode. Een risicoprofiel is opgebouwd uit factoren waarvan wordt verwacht dat zij voorspellen of een uitkeringsgerechtigde zich in zal laten met fraude. Bij Sociale Zaken en Werkgelegenheid (SoZaWe) in Rotterdam is onderzoek gedaan in hoeverre gegevens die zijn opgeslagen in de bestanden van de dienst in relatie staan met fraude. Daarnaast is een onderzoek gedaan in hoeverre factoren die vanuit een theoretisch standpunt in relatie met fraude zouden kunnen staan tot een verbetering van een risicoprofiel kunnen leiden. Uit de beide onderzoeken blijkt dat de gegevens uit de bestanden van SoZaWe een geringe voorspellende waarde hebben. Deze kan iets verbeterd worden door er factoren aan toe te voegen als de attitude van de klant tegenover fraude en beoordeling van de kansen om gecontroleerd te worden en gepakt te worden voor fraude. Het gebruik van risicoprofielen, waarbij alleen van gegevens uit de bestanden van de Sociale Diensten wordt uitgegegaan moet met de grootst mogelijke terughoudendheid gebeuren.
