Teacher Perceptions of University Mentoring Programs Planning for Inclusive Elementary Schools: A Case Study in Indonesia
Rasmitadila Rasmitadila, Megan Asri Humaira, R. Rachmadtullah
et al.
One of the problems in implementing inclusive education in inclusive elementary schools in Indonesia is that there is no continuous and sustainable mentoring program from the government. This study aimed to explore the opinions of general teachers (GTs) regarding the mentoring program planning by the university that should give to inclusive elementary schools. Collected data by semi-structured interviews with forty of GTs in inclusive elementary schools. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis of qualitative data. The results found four main themes: mentoring inclusive elementary schools' completeness, mentoring inclusive classroom instructions, organizing seminars and training, and mentoring time. The mentoring program planning that the university should conduct for inclusive elementary schools in Indonesia consists of academic and non-academic aspects on a collaborative and sustainable basis. Broadly, the university must be a center for research and development resources for inclusive education that can solve implementing inclusive education at every level of education.
Anxiety and Worries of Individuals with Down Syndrome During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Comparative Study in the UK
V. Sideropoulos, H. Kye, D. Dukes
et al.
The present study explored the effects of the pandemic on individuals with Down Syndrome (DS; n = 67) compared to other groups with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND; n = 48) and their Typically Developing Siblings (TDS; n = 56). In total, 115 caregivers reported on their own anxiety and worries and of their children. Anxiety levels for individuals with DS appeared to be lower compared to other SEND populations and to TDS. In terms of worries, individuals with DS worried more about social-related worries but worried less about family-related aspects compared to the other groups. In sum, individuals with DS might show less anxiety but still worried more about specific aspects related to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on their lives.
Plant blindness and sustainability
H. Thomas, H. Ougham, D. Sanders
Purpose The present paper aims to examine the concept of “plant blindness” in the context of current sustainability debates. “Plant blindness” was the term introduced in 1999 by the botanists and educators James H Wandersee and Elisabeth E Schussler to describe what they saw as a pervasive insensitivity to the green environment and a general neglect of plants on the part of biology education. Design/methodology/approach The fundamental importance of plants for life on Earth and the socio-educational challenges of redacted awareness of this importance are considered. Also, the diverse physiological, psychological, philosophical, cultural and geopolitical origins and consequences of indifference to plants in relation to aspects of sustainability agendas are examined with special reference to education. Findings An examination of the outcomes of a range of research and practical initiatives reveals how multidisciplinary approaches to education and public engagement have the potential to address the challenge of “plant blindness”. The need for these opportunities to be reflected in curriculums is not widely appreciated, and the socio-economic forces of resistance to confronting plant neglect continue to be formidable. Originality/value Plant blindness is a relatively new field of research, and the full breadth of its implications are only gradually becoming apparent. If the present paper contributes to positioning plants as an essential element in sustainability education and practice, it will have met its objective.
The Contributions of Cognitive Individual Differences on EFL Productive Skills through Online Instruction
Mohsen Salimian Rizi, Hooshang Yazdani
Although there is adequate research about learning style and motivation in face-to-face classes, there is still a scarceness of available studies exploring such individual differences in EFL online settings and to the best knowledge of the researcher, no previous studies even try to address their impacts on EFL learners' productive skill in online EFL classroom settings. To this end, this study which is one of the newest in this field aimed at increasing our understanding of the contribution of such cognitive individual differences on EFL productive skills through online instruction using concurrent triangulation design. The results demonstrated that out of the two cognitive individual differences, the strongest association was observed between the motivation variable and EFL productive skills. Nevertheless, unlike other studies the relation between learning style use and EFL productive skills proficiency was not significant. The implications of the study will instill new insights for EFL researchers and language learners to consider the recent pandemic as a blessing in disguise, acting as a foundation stone towards online EFL instruction advancement in the Iran. Also, since motivation impact language achievement significantly, building a learner-friendly and encouraging atmosphere in online settings is therefore vital.

Psychological safety in innovative learning environments: planning for inclusive spaces
J. Charteris, Joann Anderson, Angela Page
ABSTRACT Innovative Learning Environments (ILEs) are characterised by features that can create hypervisibility, and hyperstimulation, that raise psychological safety issues. However, there is a lack of research in the field of ILEs that addresses these complexities especially for students with additional learning needs. This case study draws on interview data with staff and students in a special education setting within an Australian ILE. Results map three aspects of design that have implications for the psychological safety. Findings are presented as a set of indicators that educators and designers can use to assist in their planning for inclusive spaces in ILE.
Sexual Difference as a Question of Ethics: Alterities of the Flesh in Irigaray and Merleau-Ponty
Judith Butler
This article crosses the approach of the feminist philosopher Luce Irigaray, making reference mainly to her work An Ethics of Sexual Difference and the philosopher Merleau-Ponty, highlighting, especially, the chapter "The Intertwining- the Chiasm," of the book The Visible and the Invisible. The first author quoted has a kind of relation of ambivalence and self-subordination in the way she puts herself in front of the texts of male philosophers, attributing power to them. Incorporating for her own text the philosophical tradition. Irigaray gets involved with Merleau-Ponty by an "interweaving", which will characterize the relations of flesh. It is worth noting that this article is unified by the purpose of the elaboration of what Irigaray calls an ethical relationship between the sexes. For her this relationship consists of the question "Who are you?” The vast debate involving ethics, sexual difference, and otherness of the flesh is being woven under the analysis of the two great philosophers mentioned.

Corpus-informed application based on Korean Learners’ Corpus: substitution errors of topic and nominative markers
Jihye Chun, Mi Hyun Kim
Abstract This study aims to demonstrate the need for learner-corpus-informed applications and proposes methods of application that promote the proper use of Korean topic and nominative markers. This study extracted 3004 pieces of error from the error-annotated corpus of the Korean Learners’ Corpus, the largest Korean learner corpus to date. A detailed examination of the above data was conducted to subdivide the types of substitution errors related to the topic and nominative markers, and to analyze the error rate according to the type of error and level of proficiency. The statistical data revealed no consistent correlation between the error rate and proficiency level. Furthermore, based on the proportion of error types by proficiency level, this study proposes the use of common mistake boxes with real errors; these errors are generally committed by learners of all proficiency levels and are not presumed problematic by grammarians or intuition-based teachers. These boxes can, therefore, be utilized as a practical tool for inclusion in pedagogical materials, such as learner’s dictionaries and textbooks.

Nevertheless, we are of the view that these papers address the most fundamentally important and insightful topics including: land reform and rural development; technology progress and productivity growth; changing food consumption patterns; rural education and human capital accumulation; and poverty alleviation.

Do we need teachers as designers of technology enhanced learning?
P. Kirschner
In this special issue, five teams of researchers discuss different aspects of the teacher as designer of technology enhanced learning situations. This final contribution critically discusses if and how teachers as designers of technology enhanced learning might (not) be feasible or even desirable. The premise underlying this critical view is that technology enhanced learning should not be seen as ‘special’ in comparison to other forms of learning in the teacher’s arsenal. Both practicing professionals and institutions for teacher education must understand and embrace the role of design in professional competencies if technology enhanced learning is ever to be fully integrated into teaching and learning processes.

Accessibility to Health-Information and Family Influence on Reproductive Health Literacy Amongst Adolescent Girls
Fasoranti Afolabi Joseph, Mercy Onwuama, Aladesokun Toluwalase
Opportunities for young girls in sexual health education is being discriminated against because there are beliefs that girls that know too much can become wayward. Adolescent girls are faced with so many challenges ranging from cultural and parental pressures. This study sought to evaluate the access to health information and family influence on reproductive health literacy amongst adolescent girls. The sample size comprised two hundred and fifty females (n-250) students selected through purposive sampling method. The research instrument is a self-developed structured and validated questionnaire while descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentages was used to analyze the responses. Two hypotheses were postulated. Findings showed that access to health information regarding reproductive health is limited and also family influence reproductive health literacy. The study therefore recommends that parents should educate their young daughters about family planning method and teachers should take out time from their allotted schedule to discuss sexual related issues with the adolescents in the school.

Cristhyan Medardo Herrera Huiracocha , Elizabeth Salinas

Integrative Approach to Teaching of the Circuit Design of Analog Electron Devices in the NI ELVIS Platform
Oleg V. Stukach, Arman B. Mirmanov
Modern graduates need to work with electronic devices. On laboratory work, students conduct experiments to solve practical problems of researching real problems that arise in the design and operation of electronic devices. However, the shortage of laboratory equipment and assistants for maintenance and assistance in work, its high cost reduce the quality of laboratory work. On the other hand, modern education is increasingly using a network resource. Virtual laboratories have their advantages, but even when carrying out a physical experiment in them, the sense of the reality of what is happening disappears. Effective solutions to the effectiveness and quality of conducting laboratory exercises can be found using a system of virtual instruments that can be accessed via the Internet or directly at the university. The aim of the research is to show, by the example of one experimental device made on the National Instruments ELVIS platform, the advantages of a combined approach to learning – a successful combination of a virtual resource and a real physical experiment. The laboratory model described in the article is very practical for studying radio-engineering devices, and it can ideologically serve as a basis for other similar developments. The research was based on the prototype board for studying the basics of analog electronics for the NI ELVIS workstation, the cycle of laboratory work on the general technical discipline “Electronics”, the results of their protection, and the results of intermediate student controls. In work the following methods are used: laboratory experiment, modeling, pedagogical testing. The results of the research show that students feel the need for more knowledge about real processes and systems. This need is most evident in the direction of the preparation of bachelors of engineering and technology. They expect from a laboratory work a real physical experiment, but with the convenience of computer-processing results. A new paradigm for studying radio electronic devices, based on physical experiments in a virtual instrument system gives an improvement in the quality of instruction and allows students to study the circuitry of analog devices more effectively. The ideology of virtual instruments leads to more motivation for students; they gain skills to work with modern measuring equipment and at the same time communication skills in a group, as the computer resource is used as a research tool, not the purpose of learning.A physical experiment, using virtual measuring instruments, accessibility and mobility of laboratory facilities, additional motivation of students are the main advantages of using the NI ELVIS hardware and software platform with a specialized breadboard model in the educational process.

Faculty attitudes about interprofessional education
Gary L. Beck Dallaghan, Erin Hoffman, Elizabeth Lyden
et al.
Background: Interprofessional education (IPE) is an important component to training health care professionals. Research is limited in exploring the attitudes that faculty hold regarding IPE and what barriers they perceive to participating in IPE. The purpose of this study was to identify faculty attitudes about IPE and to identify barriers to participating in campus-wide IPE activities. Methods: A locally used questionnaire called the Nebraska Interprofessional Education Attitudes Scale (NIPEAS) was used to assess attitudes related to interprofessional collaboration. Questions regarding perceived barriers were included at the end of the questionnaire. Descriptive and non-parametric statistics were used to analyze the results in aggregate as well as by college. In addition, open-ended questions were analyzed using an immersion/crystallization framework to identify themes. Results: The results showed that faculty had positive attitudes of IPE, indicating that is not a barrier to participating in IPE activities. Most common barriers to participation were scheduling conflicts (x24,285=19.17, p=0.001), lack of department support (4,285=10.09, p=0.039), and lack of awareness of events (x24,285=26.38, p=0.000). Narrative comments corroborated that scheduling conflicts are an issue because of other priorities. Those who commented also added to the list of barriers, including relevance of the activities, location, and prior negative experiences. Discussion: With faculty attitudes being positive, the exploration of faculty's perceived barriers to IPE was considered even more important. Identifying these barriers will allow us to modify our IPE activities from large, campus-wide events to smaller activities that are longitudinal in nature, embedded within current curriculum and involving more authentic experiences.
