We propose a strong baseline model for unsupervised feature learning using video data. By learning to predict missing frames or extrapolate future frames from an input video sequence, the model discovers both spatial and temporal correlations which are useful to represent complex deformations and motion patterns. The models we propose are largely borrowed from the language modeling literature, and adapted to the vision domain by quantizing the space of image patches into a large dictionary. We demonstrate the approach on both a filling and a generation task. For the first time, we show that, after training on natural videos, such a model can predict non-trivial motions over short video sequences.

This study delves into the representation of intangible Chinese cultural heritage in Chinese mobile games. Nowadays, even with huge economic potential, Chinese mobile games are still faced with negative comments, especially from parents. To develop their reputation, Chinese mobile games have portrayed considerate Chinese intangible cultural heritage (ICH). The representation of cultural heritage in video games has been a subject of discussion for a long time, while console and computer games and tangible cultural heritage have been at the centre of academic studies. Hence, we strived to investigate how Chinese ICH is depicted in Chinese mobile games. A thematic analysis was conducted on data collected through analytical gameplay of 30 Chinese mobile games selected from Apple’s App Store and the Chinese TapTap platform. Our analysis indicates that Chinese ICH is represented in Chinese mobile games to fulfil the persona of game characters, to create a more engaging and immersive game world experience, to provide more intense combat moments, to offer visually enjoyable virtual goods, and to deliver culturally driven updates during traditional festivals. Among the various forms of Chinese ICH, Chinese traditional craftsmanship is found to be used most frequently because of the huge effort it requires to be mastered, which could be educational to players. Theatrical traditions were found to be depicted in most game elements because they combine visual, audio, and motional elements. Lastly, folk and classical literature is portrayed in Chinese mobile games to provide a narrative resource that culturally resonates with players.

Abstract This article investigates the epistemological convergence between French historiography and French Discourse Analysis (FDA), emphasizing their shared focus on language as a vehicle for historical meaning and ideological formation. Tracing the evolution from the Annales School to post-structuralist thinkers such as Foucault and LaCapra, the study highlights how history has increasingly embraced discourse as both a methodological tool and an object of analysis. Through a case study of Santiago Abascal, leader of Spain’s far-right party Vox, the article illustrates how FDA concepts – such as lexical worlds, interdiscursivity, and discursive ethos – can be applied to political rhetoric in the digital age. Using lexicometric methods (IraMuTeQ, SketchEngine) and qualitative interpretation, the study analyzes a corpus of Abascal’s tweets (2019-2022), focusing particularly on the term golpista as a strategic signifier of ideological antagonism. The findings show how far-right discourse reactivates historically loaded terms to construct binary oppositions and mobilize collective memory. Ultimately, the article argues that FDA offers historians a powerful framework to interrogate the linguistic production of identity, power, and historical continuity in contemporary political narratives.

Geospatial technologies are rapidly emerging as pivotal tools for advancing sustainable urban and rural development through citizen empowerment in India and worldwide. This study systematically reviews peer-reviewed and grey literature to examine their integration with global frameworks, such as the SDGs, Paris Agreement, and Sendai Framework, while aligning with Indian initiatives like NAPCC, Smart Cities, Digital India, SVAMITVA, AMRUT, and the National Geospatial Policy 2022, with emphasis on the citizen as a crucial feedback factor. Employing thematic mapping and comparative analysis between the Global North and South, we evaluate applications in urban planning, mobility, energy, resilience, and health, highlighting platforms like PPGIS, VGI, Bhuvan, and 'Know Your DIGIPIN' for participatory data collection and decision-making.</p> <p>Our analysis reveals regional disparities in India, with the southern zone leading in innovation (35% adoption) and the eastern region focussing on disaster management (15%), along with global successes in disaster relief, welfare targeting, and immunisation tracking. Quantitative impacts include India's geospatial market growth to ₹63,000 crores by 2025 and AMRUT 2.0's rapid water and sewerage coverage expansion in many major cities. However, persistent challenges include technical knowledge gaps in academia, insufficient institutional support for geospatial startups, and barriers like low digital literacy and language limitations that restrict broader participation.</p> <p>We recommend enhanced geospatial education, open data policies, vernacular interfaces, and inclusive citizen science frameworks to bridge these gaps, foster equitable participation, and realise geospatial intelligence's full potential for resilient, data-driven sustainability.

Humour is an elusive topic within the legal sphere. Contemporary discourse frequently struggles with whether comedians should be legally accountable for their often-controversial humour, juxtaposing the intricacies of humour’s nature against the principle of free speech. This article aims to demonstrate the inadequacy of judicial resources in addressing humorous expressions. Initially, I examine the varied judicial treatments of humour across different legal systems. Subsequently, I highlight the inherent difficulties in criminalizing humour, whether through aesthetic judgments or evaluations of the comedian's intentions, as both tend to result in an excessive interpretation of the performer’s expression and motives. In the third section, I critique the models proposed by Godioli and Mosaka, discussing the benefits and limitations of these frameworks in establishing a legal standard for assessing when humour crosses the line and its adjudication in court. Ultimately, I contend that humour, particularly that of comedians, ought to be evaluated from a societal perspective, exempting it from legal constraints. I propose alternative solutions to confront offensive humour that bypass formal justice systems, such as enhancing media literacy, endorsing comedians who champion social values, and deterring the patronage of certain comedic genres.

The neurological notion of “reserve” arises from an individually observable dissociation between brain health and cognitive status. According to the cognitive reserve hypothesis, high-reserve individuals experience functional compensation for neural atrophy and, thus, are able to maintain relatively stable cognitive functioning with no or smaller-than-expected impairment. Several lifestyle factors such as regular physical exercise, adequate and balanced nutrition, and educational attainment have been widely reported to contribute to reserve and, thus, lead to more successful trajectories of cognitive aging (CA). In recent years, it has become clear that bilingualism is also a potential reserve contributor. Yet, there is little communication between the neuroscience of bilingualism research community and researchers working in the field of CA more generally, despite compelling reasons for it. In fact, bilingualism tends to be overlooked as a contributory factor in the CA literature, or reduced to a dichotomous trait, despite it being a complex experience. Herein, we discuss issues that are preventing recognition of bilingualism as a reserve contributor across all literatures, highlight the benefits of including language experiences as a factor of interest across research disciplines, and suggest a roadmap to better integrate bilingualism and aging moving forward. We close with calls toward a model of aging that examines the contributions across lifestyle factors, including that of bilingual experience.

Alice Munro stitches a patchwork of short stories in her 1968 short story collection, Dance of the Happy Shades. The collection is constructed as a rhizomatic multiplicity wherein stories relate to each other in a rhizomatic pattern, as off-shoots of the same organic body. Each story in Dance of the Happy Shades is also internally constructed in the same way as a multiplicity, where micro-narratives are assembled as pieces of a patchwork to form a whole. This paper, however, explores only the opening story “Walker Brothers Cowboy” through a geocritical and geophilosophical lens and shows how Munro builds it through the same pattern. The story comprises multiple micro-narratives of different lengths and forms, each of which functions as part of this organic growth. The essay also shows how the juxtaposition of such micro-narratives, and of smoothing and striating images, creates a heterochronian heterotopia at the climax of the story.

It is from a translation that could be described as ordinary – the translation of a philosophical reflection on the dilemmas of language in Hamlet – that the authors of this text have come to take an interest in a quite extraordinary translation of this work, that proposed by André Gide, but also in Jacques Derrida’s reading of it, and then in the posterity of a particular expression that is in many ways enigmatic…

This paper extends multithreaded application source code model and shows how to using it to detect deadlocks in C language applications. Four known deadlock scenarios from literature can be detected using our model. For every scenario we created theorems and proofs whose fulfillment guarantees the occurrence of deadlocks in multithreaded applications. Paper also contains comparison of multithreaded application source code model and Petri nets and describe advantages and disadvantages both of them.

The experience of the organization of the educational project “Network interaction - a new attribute of self-formed professional space of a teacher” is proposed. The project is implemented by the authors on the basis of “Krasnoselskaya school” (Arzamas district, Nizhni Novgorod region) in the framework of scientific and innovative activities of pedagogical university. The authors believe that the traditional education system can not fully ensure the success of new educational results within the traditional content of education. Attention is paid to the construction of the process of network interaction, which is in constant dynamic development, contributes to the achievement of a new quality of education through the creation of a virtual information educational environment based on online learning platforms. The work summarizes the results of the initial phase of project implementation. The diagnostic and thematic master class conducted by the authors proved the importance of the organized activity, which will allow: 1) to create conditions for social, cognitive and personal growth of teachers; 2) to master the network form of professional dialogue; 3) to present their teaching activities; 4) to create their own database of digital resources for self-construction of the lesson and extracurricular activities; 5) to master the basic services and technologies of the Internet for their systematic use in their educational activities.
