Logic

P. Dangerfield

1882 | Introductory Lecture on the Study of Logic | W 4:378 “Dyalectica,” says the logical text-book of the middle ages, “est ars artium et scientia scientiarum, ad omnium aliarum scientiarum methodorum principia viam habens,” and although the logic of our day must naturally be utterly different from that of the Plantagenet epoch, yet this general conception that it is the art of devising methods of research, —the method of methods, — is the true and worthy idea of the science. Logic will not undertake to inform you what kind of experiments you ought to make in order best to determine the acceleration of gravity, or the value of the Ohm; but it will tell you how to proceed to form a plan of experimentation.

Fuzzy adaptive finite-time inverse optimal control for active suspension systems

Zhenggang Chen, Wei Wu, Shaocheng Tong

This paper investigates the problem of fuzzy adaptive finite-time inverse optimal control for active suspension systems (ASSs). The fuzzy logic systems (FLSs) are utilized to learn the unknown non-linear dynamics and an auxiliary system is established. Based on the finite-time stability theory and inverse optimal theory, a fuzzy adaptive inverse finite-time inverse optimal control method is proposed. It is proven that the formulated control approach guarantees the stability of the controlled systems, while ensuring that errors converge to a small neighborhood of zero within finite time. Moreover, the optimized control performance can be achieved. Eventually, the simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed fuzzy adaptive finite-time inverse optimal control scheme.

Is There a Latin American Philosophy? The Trajectory of a Question

Mario A. González Porta, Evandro O. Brito, Jacinto Páez Bonifaci

The research articulates a central and recurring question in Latin American philosophical thought: Is there a Latin American philosophy? As a guiding thread, we take a seminal article by Argentine philosopher Risieri Frondizi, whose explicit formulation brings to light the specificity of the question itself. Rather than a rhetorical provocation, the question opens a paradox - denying the existence of philosophy in Latin America is already a philosophical act. This dossier explores how Latin American philosophy has responded to its complex relationship with European thought, the colonial legacy, and the aspiration to both originality and universality. The contributions address key issues such as the periodization of Latin American philosophy, the reception of canonical Western figures like Kant and Hegel, and the development of a critical and situated mode of thought that has become a model for decolonial reflection. At the same time, the volume includes contributions that clarify the emergence of analytic philosophy in the region, with particular attention to the development of paraconsistent logic. Far from being derivative, Latin American philosophy is presented here as an original, plural, and evolving intellectual endeavor.

A verifiably secure and robust authentication protocol for synergistically-assisted IoD deployment drones.

Ali Delham Algarni, Nisreen Innab, Fahad Algarni

Drones have limited computing and storage resources, which makes them unable to perform complex tactical tasks; drones working in clusters can be employed for such complex tactical task completion. But, the synergy between these drones working in clusters is mandatory. Otherwise, the adversary can easily target them, disturb their routine work, and even disturb the whole system. Only a robust and lightweight authentication protocol can handle both information fusion and collaboration and coordination of drones working in clusters efficiently and effectively and is one of the essential components of the Internet of Drones (IoD) environment as it is deployed for quick and intelligent decisions. In this regard, the already available security mechanisms for IoD deployment drones have either design flaws or failed to provide security against session key disclosure, spoofing, man in the middle (MITM), and denial of service (DoS) attacks. Therefore, this article presents a protocol based on elliptic curve cryptography (ECC), one-way hash, concatenation, and exclusive-OR (XOR) operations to establish a secure communication session among drones which makes them a powerful system to perform complex tactical tasks and information fusion intelligently. The security analysis of the proposed protocol has formally been scrutinized via BAN logic and ProVerif and informally via realistic discussion and illustrations. The results obtained from the analysis sections demonstrate that the proposed protocol is robust in security and is 63.87% more efficient in terms of communication cost compared to its competitors, and 66.46% better in terms of computational cost.

Just Law Theories Developed by Prominent Representatives of Russian Doctrinal Legal Research in the 19th Century

A. R. Gilmullin

This article theoretically examines some contradictions and major milestones in the development of the doctrines of just laws as laid out by prominent Russian scholars during the 19th century. It analyzes the problems surrounding different theoretical approaches and conceptions regarding the connection between justice and law through the works of M.M. Speransky, N.M. Karamzin, P.I. Pestel, N.M. Muravyov, K.A. Nevolin, B.N. Chicherin, V.S. Solovyov, and S.A. Muromtsev. The results obtained show that the period under study was marked by the elaboration of a conceptual framework and basic criteria of positive law from the perspectives of liberal (natural law) and ethical beliefs, which align with spiritual (Christian) principles. This strengthened the humanistic and moral foundations of Russian legal understanding. Additionally, a continuing and stable connection is revealed between the philosophical and legal doctrines of the 18th and 19th centuries, indicating the common (abstract, not fully comprehended) motivational grounds and logic in the establishment of legal freedoms.

Application of novel CAR technologies to improve treatment of autoimmune disease

Abigail Cheever, Chloe C. Kang, Kim L. O’Neill et al.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy has become an important treatment for hematological cancers, and its success has spurred research into CAR T cell therapies for other diseases, including solid tumor cancers and autoimmune diseases. Notably, the development of CAR-based treatments for autoimmune diseases has shown great progress recently. Clinical trials for anti-CD19 and anti-BCMA CAR T cells in treating severe B cell-mediated autoimmune diseases, like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), have shown lasting remission thus far. CAR T cells targeting autoreactive T cells are beginning clinical trials for treating T cell mediated autoimmune diseases. Chimeric autoantigen receptor (CAAR) T cells specifically target and eliminate only autoreactive B cells, and they have shown promise in treating mucosal pemphigus vulgaris and MuSK myasthenia gravis. Regulatory CAR T cells have also been developed, which show potential in altering autoimmune affected areas by creating a protective barrier as well as helping decrease inflammation. These new treatments are only the beginning of potential CAR T cell applications in treating autoimmune disease. Novel CAR technologies have been developed that increase the safety, potency, specificity, and efficacy of CAR T cell therapy. Applying these novel modifications to autoimmune CARs has the potential to enhance the efficacy and applicability of CAR therapies to autoimmune disease. This review will detail several recently developed CAR technologies and discuss how their application to autoimmune disease will improve this emerging field. These include logic-gated CARs, soluble protein-secreting CARs, and modular CARs that enable CAR T cell therapies to be more specific, reach a wider span of target cells, be safer for patients, and give a more potent cytotoxic response. Applying these novel CAR technologies to the treatment of autoimmune diseases has the potential to revolutionize this growing application of CAR T cell therapies.

Hybrid Source Multi-Port Quasi-Z-Source Converter with Fuzzy-Logic-Based Energy Management

Gorkem Say, Seyed Hossein Hosseini, Parvaneh Esmaili

In this paper, a fuzzy-logic-based energy management system and a multi-port quasi-z-source converter that utilizes hybrid renewable energy sources are proposed. The system ensures that each energy source module can be used individually by employing fuzzy logic to define the power modes. This approach also helps to prevent switching losses resulting from the extra switching of the source modules. In addition, the proposed energy management does not have a mathematical model, so its applicability is simple, and it is suitable for different multiple-input topologies. The Mamdani fuzzy inference system can be designed to capture the nonlinear behavior of the system owing to linguistic rules. Moreover, the switching losses of the multiport modules were significantly reduced by adopting the quasi-z-source network to the end of the multiport converter. Furthermore, different errors, such as the root mean square error (RMSE), average squared error (ASE), average absolute error (AAE), average time-weighted absolute error (ATWAE), tracking error (TE), and unscaled mean bounded relative absolute error (UMBRAE), were applied to evaluate the fuzzy logic performance from different perspectives. The simulation results were obtained using MATLAB Simulink, and the experimental results were obtained by connecting the circuit to MATLAB Simulink using an Arduino Due.
