Transforming Software Development with Generative AI: Empirical Insights on Collaboration and Workflow

Generative AI (GenAI) has fundamentally changed how knowledge workers, such as software developers, solve tasks and collaborate to build software products. Introducing innovative tools like ChatGPT and Copilot has created new opportunities to assist and augment software developers across various problems. We conducted an empirical study involving interviews with 13 data scientists, managers, developers, designers, and frontend developers to investigate the usage of GenAI. Our study reveals that ChatGPT signifies a paradigm shift in the workflow of software developers. The technology empowers developers by enabling them to work more efficiently, speed up the learning process, and increase motivation by reducing tedious and repetitive tasks. Moreover, our results indicate a change in teamwork collaboration due to software engineers using GenAI for help instead of asking co-workers which impacts the learning loop in agile teams.

The independence paradox in scientific careers

Establishing an independent academic identity is a central yet insufficiently understood challenge for early-career researchers. However, limited resources and mentor-driven research agendas often constrain early efforts toward autonomy. To provide large-scale quantitative evidence on how junior researchers develop independence, we introduce a framework that traces how mentees diverge from their mentors in both research topics and collaboration networks, and how these divergences relate to long-term scientific impact. Analyzing over 500,000 mentee-mentor pairs in Chemistry, Neuroscience, and Physics across six decades, we find that high-impact scientists often initiate work in secondary areas of their mentors' expertise while adaptively establishing distinct research trajectories. This pattern is most pronounced among mentees who eventually surpass their mentors' impact. We identify an inverted U-shaped relationship between topic divergence and mentees' enduring impact, with moderate divergence yielding the highest scientific impact, revealing an independence paradox in scientific careers. This pattern holds whether topic divergence is measured by citation network or semantic thematic distance. We further reveal that excessive direct mentor-mentee collaborations correlate with lower mentee impact, whereas expanding professional networks to include mentors' collaborators is beneficial. These findings not only offer actionable guidance for early-career researchers navigating independence but also inform institutional policies that promote mentorship structures supporting intellectual innovation and recognizing original contributions in promotion evaluations.
شناسایی دلایل و پیامدهای پدیده حاشیهنشینی در سازمانهای دولتی با روش FCM

اهداف: حاشیه نشینی سازمانی اثربخشی و کارایی سازمان را با آسیب رساندن به روابط انسانی و پیوندهای اجتماعی در محیط سازمانی به خطر میاندازد. بر این اساس، پژوهش حاضر به دنبال شناسایی دلایل و پیامدهای حاشیه نشینی در سازمانهای دولتی است.روش: پژوهش حاضر از لحاظ نوع داده، آمیخته و بر مبنای پژوهش کیفی و کمی است که از نظر فلسفه پژوهش در زمره پژوهشهای قیاسی استقرایی میگنجد. از نظر هدف، کاربردی و از حیث گردآوری اطلاعات، اکتشافی است. جامعه آماری پژوهش حاضر مدیران و کارکنان سازمانهای دولتی استان لرستان میباشند که با استفاده از روش نمونهگیری هدفمند و به تعداد 27 نفر انجام شد. تعیین حجم نمونه با استفاده از اصل اشباع نظری صورت گرفت. ابزار گردآوری اطلاعات در بخش کیفی مصاحبه و در بخش کمی پرسشنامه است که روایی و پایایی آنها به ترتیب با استفاده از روایی محتوایی و روایی نظری و روش پایایی سنجی درون کدگذار و برون کدگذار برای مصاحبه انجامشده و روایی محتوایی و پایایی باز آزمون برای پرسشنامههای توزیعشده، تائید شده است. دادههای کیفی با نرمافزار "اطلس تی" و روش تحلیل محتوا و دادههای کمی با روش نقشه شناختی فازی تحلیل شده است.یافتهها: یافتههای این پژوهش حاکی از آن است که مهمترین علل حاشیهنشینی کارکنان در سازمانهای دولتی رهبران استثمارگر و مدیران اقتدارگرا، سیاسیکاری و انحرافات سیاسی و نابرابریهای جنسیتمحور هستند. همچنین پیدایش انزوای سازمانی، کاهش سرمایه روانشناختی و کاهش تمایل به ارتباطات آتی با سازمان نیز بهعنوان مهمترین پیامدهای حاشیهنشینی کارکنان شناسایی شدند.

Discourses in the Development of Career Education and Career Guidance in Norwegian Schools Since 1990

Career guidance in Norway has been provided through the school system for the last 30 years and forms the background for the rise of career education. This article examines which discourses appear in the development of career guidance and the rise of career education in lower and secondary schools in Norway since the 1990s. The purpose is to shed light on the meaning-making that takes place in legal and political debates and practices related to career guidance and career education in the Norwegian context. Drawing on content and thematic analyses of political documents, research, curricula, and evaluation reports, we identify five discourses: (1) completion, (2) gender equality, (3) resources, (4) professionalisation and quality, and (5) whole school’s responsibility. These discourses shed light on how the aim of career guidance and career education in Norway is politically and contextually framed. Sammendrag Karriereveiledning i Norge har blitt levert gjennom det obligatoriske skolesystemet de siste 30 årene og danner bakgrunnen for fremveksten av karriereundervisning. I denne artikkelen undersøkes hvilke diskurser som fremtrer i utviklingen av karriereveiledning og fremveksten av karriereundervisning i grunnskolen i Norge, siden 1990-tallet. Hensikten er å belyse meningsskapingen i juridiske og politiske debatter og praksiser om karriereveiledning og karriereundervisning i norsk kontekst. Ved hjelp av innholds- og tematisk analyse av policy dokumenter, forskning og læreplaner og evalueringsrapporter, identifiserer vi fem diskurser: (1) Fullføring, (2) Likestilling, (3) Profesjonalisering og kvalitet, (4) Ressurser og (5) Hele skolens ansvar. کنکاشی پیرامون همسویی نظام برنامه ریزی درسی هنرستانهای کشاورزی ایران با آموزشهای کارآفرینی

این مطالعه با هدف کنکاشی پیرامون همسویی نظام برنامهریزی درسی هنرستانهای کشاورزی با آموزش-های کارآفرینی، به روش آمیخته اکتشافی (کیفی و کمی) انجام شد. در بخش کیفی تحقیق، ابتدا با بررسی ادبیات نظری، عوامل مؤثر بر نظام برنامهریزی هنرستانهای کشاورزی شناسایی شد. سپس برای تعیین موانع آموزشهای کارآفرینی با دعوت از گروهی از خبرگان (8n=) نسبت به برگزاری یک نشست به شیوهی گروه کانونی اقدام شد. پرسشنامهها در سه دور به روش دلفی به نظرخواهی خبرگان (30n=) که از متخصصان صاحبنظـر و آگــاه در حــوزه کشاورزی، مدیریت و برنامهریزی بودند؛ قرار گرفت. پس از دریافت پرسشنامههای دور اول دلفی نظرات خبرگان بررسی شدند. مواردی که میزان ضریب پراکندگی آنها عدد 5/0 و کمتر بود بهعلاوه موارد جدید پیشنهاد شده توسط خبرگان در دور دوم دلفی به نظرخواهی گذاشته شد و نتایج حاصل از دور دوم همانند دور اول تحلیل شد و برای نظرخواهی مجدد به خبرگان در دور سوم ارائه شد. در نهایت و در دور سوم الگوی نهایی شامل 12 مؤلفه و 148 زیر مؤلفه به دست آمد. نتایج حاصل از سه مرحله دلفی نشان دهندهی آن است که مؤلفههای محتوی، هنرآموزان و روشهای تدریس، به ترتیب رتبه اول تا سوم را دارند، که لازم است در راستای همسو شدن برنامهریزی درسی با آموزش کارآفرینی مورد توجه قرار گیرند.

An Artificial Intelligence-based Framework to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in the Context of Bangladesh

Sustainable development is a framework for achieving human development goals. It provides natural systems' ability to deliver natural resources and ecosystem services. Sustainable development is crucial for the economy and society. Artificial intelligence (AI) has attracted increasing attention in recent years, with the potential to have a positive influence across many domains. AI is a commonly employed component in the quest for long-term sustainability. In this study, we explore the impact of AI on three pillars of sustainable development: society, environment, and economy, as well as numerous case studies from which we may deduce the impact of AI in a variety of areas, i.e., agriculture, classifying waste, smart water management, and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. Furthermore, we present AI-based strategies for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which are effective for developing countries like Bangladesh. The framework that we propose may reduce the negative impact of AI and promote the proactiveness of this technology.
Quantifying gender imbalance in East Asian academia: Research career and citation practice

Gender imbalance in academia has been confirmed in terms of a variety of indicators, and its magnitude often varies from country to country. Europe and North America, which cover a large fraction of research workforce in the world, have been the main geographical regions for research on gender imbalance in academia. However, the academia in East Asia, which accounts for a substantial fraction of research, may be exposed to strong gender imbalance because Asia has been facing persistent and stronger gender imbalance in society at large than Europe and North America. Here we use publication data between 1950 and 2020 to analyze gender imbalance in academia in China, Japan, and South Korea in terms of the number of researchers, their career, and citation practice. We found that, compared to the average of the other countries, gender imbalance is larger in these three East Asian countries in terms of the number of researchers and their citation practice and additionally in Japan in terms of research career. Moreover, we found that Japan has been exposed to the larger gender imbalance than China and South Korea in terms of research career and citation practice.
The Development of Loose-Leaf Teaching Materials Based on the Concept of Outcome-Based Teaching Model and Its Effectiveness

At present, loose-leaf teaching materials are attracting more and more attention in higher vocational institutions and have become a hot topic now. However, since the development of loose-leaf teaching materials is still in its beginning and exploratory stage, the examples of loose-leaf teaching materials for specialized courses are very hard to find. In fact, there is little research and application of how teaching objectives, content structure, teaching methods and teaching effectiveness reflect the original intention of loose-leaf teaching materials, especially there is little empirical evidence and reporting on teaching effectiveness. In this paper, we adopt the concept of outcome-based teaching model and take “Check-in” in Professional English for Hotel Staff course as an example to demonstrate the development and design of loose-leaf teaching materials and their features of career guidance, brevity and clarity, simplicity and practicality, real time and flexibility. By comparing the fourth semester exam results of 125 students majoring in hotel management from the class of 2013 to the class of 2016, who used traditional hotel English textbook,with the fourth semester exam results of 112 students from the class of 2017 to the class of 2020, who used loose-leaf teaching materials of hotel English in a higher vocational college, the advantages of the “4Es” embodied in loose-leaf teaching materials, namely, easy to teach, easy to learn, easy to understand and easy to use, and their effectiveness are revealed. According to the current study and preliminary teaching results, the development of the loose-leaf textbook based on the concept of outcome-based teaching model has been effective.
Policy Processes that led to Norway’s first Master in Career Guidance in 2014

The article explores and discusses the rationalities behind the policy processes that led to the first Master of Career Guidance in Norway in 2014. The research aimed to gain knowledge of how policy processes, understood as the influences, interactions between main actors, and events led to the realisation of the Master program. The empirical basis for the research were documents such as minutes from meetings between actors, surveys, actors’ notes with reasons for creating a master’s program in career guidance and an application for approval of the master’s program. The documents were explored using the historical method and reflexive thematic analyses. The actors represented the two fields of interests: governing bodies and the higher education sector. Attention was given to differences and potential tensions among the actors in their conception of career guidance with reference to technocratic, humanistic, and emancipatory discourse. The analysis shows that all actors, despite the differing positions and discourses, managed to cooperate to enable funds for the master’s programme in the national budget for 2014. Abstrakt Artikkelen beskriver og forklarer hvordan et masterprogram i karriereveiledning ble igangsatt i Norge i 2014. Gjennom en kombinasjon av historisk metode og refleksiv tematisk analyse søker vi å belyse hvordan tre viktige aktører i denne fagpolitiske prosessen, nemlig sentrale styringsorganer, praksisfeltet og universitets- og høgskolesektoren, har påvirket, samhandlet og utløst hendelser som forklarer at masterprogrammets ble realisert. Vi belyser hvordan Norge var sterkt influert av en europeisk kunnskapsøkonomisk diskurs som satte fart i fagpolitiske miljøer. Vi trekker fram spenningene i forståelsene av hva karriereveiledninger er, og speiler disse forståelsene mot tre ulike diskurser, nemlig en teknokratisk, en humanistisk og en frigjørende diskurs. Våre funn konkluderer med at alle aktørene – tross ulike posisjoner og ulike diskurser – klarte å finne felles interesse i å samhandle, slik at masterprogrammet fikk plass på statsbudsjettet for 2014 og kunne igangsettes av de to involverte høgskolene samme høst. Samhandlingen la grunnlaget for et ambisiøst studieprogram, et høyt kompetansenivå for undervisning og forskning, og en profil som ivaretok nyere nasjonal og internasjonal fagutvikling. تحلیل سازوکارهای توسعه کارآفرینی روستایی: مطالعه شهرستان زیرکوه

علیرغم اهمیت توسعه کارآفرینی روستایی نتایج حاکی از توسعه ناکافی کارآفرینی در روستاها است، بنابراین تحقیق حاضر به تحلیل سازوکارهای مؤثر بر توسعه کارآفرینی روستایی در شهرستان زیرکوه استان خراسان جنوبی پرداخته است. جامعه آماری این پژوهش شامل افرادی بودند که از وام اشتغال استفاده کرده بودند (840 نفر). حجم نمونه مورد مطالعه با استفاده از نرم افزار G*Power تعداد 215 نفر بود که بهصورت طبقهای با انتساب متناسب انتخاب شدند. ابزار جمعآوری داده پرسشنامه محقق ساخته بود. پایایی پرسشنامه از طریق آلفای کرونباخ و تحلیل روایی محتوایی بر اساس نظر جمعی از اساتید گروه مدیریت و توسعه کشاورزی دانشگاه تهران و کارشناسان بخش اجرایی جهاد کشاورزی شهرستان زیرکوه مورد تأیید قرار گرفت. برای تجزیه و تحلیل دادهها علاوه بر آمار توصیفی از روش مدلسازی معادلات ساختاری استفاده شد. نتایج این تحقیق نشان داد که از نظر پاسخگویان از میان مؤلفههای مختلف نشاندهنده توسعهیافتگی کارآفرینی، زیرمؤلفههای نظام آموزشی با ضریب مسیر (921/0)، بازار (809/0)، زیرساختها (753/0)، عوامل فرهنگی (691/0) و در نهایت قوانین و سیاستها (678/0) به ترتیب دارای بیشترین اهمیت هستند. یافتههای این مطالعه همچنین نشان داد از میان سازوکارهای مختلف توسعه کارآفرینی روستایی در حال حاضر سازوکارهای قانونی و سیاستی با ضریب مسیر (304/0) بیشترین تأثیر را بر توسعه کارآفرینی دارا هستند. پس از این سازوکارها به ترتیب سازوکارهای اجتماعی (226/0)، زیرساختی (209/0)، اقتصادی (207/0) و در نهایت مدیریتی (171/0) قرار دارند. به منظور توسعه کارآفرینی روستایی استفاده از روشهای آموزشی و همچنین تدوین سازوکارهای قانونی و سیاستی مناسب در جهت حمایت از کارآفرینان روستایی پیشنهاد میشود.

Exploring the Confounding Factors of Academic Career Success: An Empirical Study with Deep Predictive Modeling

Understanding determinants of success in academic careers is critically important to both scholars and their employing organizations. While considerable research efforts have been made in this direction, there is still a lack of a quantitative approach to modeling the academic careers of scholars due to the massive confounding factors. To this end, in this paper, we propose to explore the determinants of academic career success through an empirical and predictive modeling perspective, with a focus on two typical academic honors, i.e., IEEE Fellow and ACM Fellow. We analyze the importance of different factors quantitatively, and obtain some insightful findings. Specifically, we analyze the co-author network and find that potential scholars work closely with influential scholars early on and more closely as they grow. Then we compare the academic performance of male and female Fellows. After comparison, we find that to be elected, females need to put in more effort than males. In addition, we also find that being a Fellow could not bring the improvements of citations and productivity growth. We hope these derived factors and findings can help scholars to improve their competitiveness and develop well in their academic careers.
A perspective to navigate the National Laboratory environment for RSE career growth

This paper shares a perspective for the research software engineering (RSE) community to navigate the National Laboratory landscape. The RSE role is a recent concept that led to organizational challenges to place and evaluate their impact, costs and benefits. The premise is that RSEs are a natural fit into the current landscape and can use traditional career growth strategies in science: publications, community engagements and proposals. Projects funding RSEs can benefit from this synergy and be inclusive on traditional activities. Still, a great deal of introspection is needed to close gaps between the rapidly evolving RSE landscape and the well-established communication patterns in science. This perspective is built upon interactions in industry, academia and government in high-performance computing (HPC) environments. The goal is to contribute to the conversation around RSE career growth and understand their return on investment for scientific projects and sponsors.
بررسی اثرات و پیامدهای استقرار کشاورزی پایدار در راستای احیای دریاچه ارومیه

هدف اصلی این پژوهش بررسی اثرات و پیامدهای اجرای فعالیت کشاورزی پایدار در قالب پروژه «همکاری در احیای دریاچه ارومیه از طریق مشارکت جوامع محلی در استقرار کشاورزی پایدار و حفاظت از تنوعزیستی» بود. به لحاظ روش تحقیق، این پژوهش از نوع تحقیقات توصیفی- همبستگی بود. جامعه آماری این پژوهش را تمامی مشارکتکنندگان در فعالیت کشاورزی پایدار در روستاهای تحت پوشش فازهای 6 و 7 پروژه اشاره شده در استانهای آذربایجان غربی و آذربایجان شرقی تشکیل دادند (900= N). بر اساس جدول بارتلت و همکاران (2001)، 251 نفر از این مشارکتکنندگان با استفاده از روش نمونهگیری چندمرحلهای و بهصورت تصادفی انتخاب شدند. برای گردآوری دادهها از پرسشنامه استفاده شد. روایی پرسشنامه با نظر پانلی از کارشناسان و متخصصان مورد تأیید قرار گرفت. برای تعیین پایایی ابزار تحقیق، پیشآزمون انجام گرفت که مقدار آلفای کرونباخ محاسبه شده برای مقیاس اصلی پرسشنامه در حد مناسب (بالای 75/0) بود. بهمنظور تجزیه و تحلیل اطلاعات از نرم افزار SPSSWin25 استفاده شد. نتایج تحلیل عاملی اکتشافی نشان داد که اثرات و پیامدهای اجرای فعالیت کشاورزی پایدار به ترتیب در قالب سه عامل زیستمحیطی، اجتماعی و اقتصادی قرار گرفتند و در حدود 59 درصد از واریانس اثرات اجرای پروژه را تبیین کردند. بهطور کلی، با توجه به نتایج بهدست آمده میتوان نتیجه گرفت که متناسب با ابعاد سهگانه اصلی توسعه پایدار، اجرای فعالیت کشاورزی پایدار توانسته است به موازات توجه به ملاحظات زیست-محیطی، معیشت جوامع محلی را بهواسطه ظرفیتسازی اجتماعی و الگوسازی مشارکت جوامع محلی بهبود دهد.

La intervención orientadora en la primera infancia: argumentos para delimitar los procesos grupales en la educación preescolar

En este artículo se hace un análisis de la impostergable necesidad de delimitar la acción orientadora desde lo grupal en la educación preescolar. Se reflexiona sobre la trascendencia de la educación en la primera infancia, la cual, ha sido catalogada como etapa decisiva por organismos internacionales y por el Estado, y por tanto, debería serlo para el servicio de orientación. Asimismo, se presentan algunos argumentos para esbozar la intervención orientadora bajo la modalidad grupal ajustada a los propósitos, a la naturaleza del trabajo y a las características de la educación preescolar.

Assisted Vocational Training in Germany: Individual Support for Disadvantaged Young People in their Transition to Vocational Training

This paper describes the development and implementation of Assisted Training (Assistierte Ausbildung, AsA) in Germany. The instrument was developed to offer disadvantaged young people positive experiences in training, the transition from school to vocational training and support them on successfully completing their training. The AsA offers a comprehensive, holistic approach. It contains elements of individual vocational and educational counselling, classic tutoring during vocational school lessons, life counselling for psychosocial problems and mediation in conflicts between the training partners (school, company, chamber) and the young people. In particular, young people with specific learning and social difficulties are addressed. The goal is the successful completion of the training and, thereafter a transition to an appropriate occupation, to long-term decent employment. This article shows that young people, as well as vocational counsellors, guidance counsellors and companies consider the AsA as an effective instrument in providing support on the way to a completed apprenticeship. Nevertheless, the article reveals areas that need to be improved so that more young people could benefit from AsA. Thus, young people with learning problems could receive support for vocational school, and those with weak German language skills could receive tuition. Abstrakt Denna artikel beskriver utvecklingen och genomförandet av assisterad utbildning (Assistierte Ausbildung, AsA) i Tyskland. AsA har utvecklats för att möjliggöra positiva erfarenheter för missgynnade ungdomar – under utbildningens gång, vid övergången från skola till yrkesutbildning, och/eller vid utbildningens slut. AsA erbjuder ett omfattande och holistiskt tillvägagångssätt: det innehåller inslag av individuell studie- och yrkesvägledning, handledning under yrkesutbildningens lektioner, rådgivning vid psykosociala problem och medling i konflikter mellan utbildningspartnerna (skola, företag) och ungdomarna. Åtgärden riktas i första hand mot unga människor med särskilda inlärningssvårigheter och sociala svårigheter. Målet är att utbildningen ska slutföras och att en övergång till ett lämpligt yrke och en långsiktig sysselsättning ska bli möjlig. Som framgår i artikeln har flera utvärderingsstudier visat att såväl ungdomar som vägledare och företag anser att AsA är en viktigt åtgärd, som på ett effektivt sätt kan stödja en avslutad lärlingsutbildning. Artikeln uppmärksammar även hur AsA kan förbättras, så att fler ungdomar kan dra nytta av denna åtgärd. Ungdomar med inlärningssvårigheter får stöd inför yrkesskolan, och ungdomar med svaga kunskaper i tyska får stöd i undervisningen. Commentary on World Development Report 2020: Trading for Development in the Age of Global Value Chains

The importance of trade to an economy needs no emphasis. You sell products or services that you are competitive at and buy those where you are not. Experience of countries such as South Korea and China demonstrate that resources required for development can be garnered through trade; thus, motivating many countries to embrace trade as a means for development. Simultaneously, emergence of 'Global Value Chain' or 'GVC' as they are popularly known has changed the way we trade. Though the concept of GVC was introduced in the early 2000s, there are examples of global value chains before the 1980s. However, the scale of the phenomenon and the way in which technological change, by lowering trade costs, has allowed fragmentation of production was not possible before (Hernandez et al., 2014). In this context, the World Bank has recently published its 'World Development Report 2020: Trading for Development in the Age of Global Value Chains' (WDR). The report prescribes that GVCs still offer developing countries a clear path to progress and that developing countries can achieve better outcomes by pursuing market-oriented reforms specific to their stage of development.
Proposal for the ILC Preparatory Laboratory (Pre-lab)

During the preparatory phase of the International Linear Collider (ILC) project, all technical development and engineering design needed for the start of ILC construction must be completed, in parallel with intergovernmental discussion of governance and sharing of responsibilities and cost. The ILC Preparatory Laboratory (Pre-lab) is conceived to execute the technical and engineering work and to assist the intergovernmental discussion by providing relevant information upon request. It will be based on a worldwide partnership among laboratories with a headquarters hosted in Japan. This proposal, prepared by the ILC International Development Team and endorsed by the International Committee for Future Accelerators, describes an organisational framework and work plan for the Pre-lab. Elaboration, modification and adjustment should be introduced for its implementation, in order to incorporate requirements arising from the physics community, laboratories, and governmental authorities interested in the ILC.

E-commerce for Rural Micro-Entrepreneurs: Mapping Restrictions, Ecologies of Use and Trends for Development

This paper addresses the struggle of rural micro-entrepreneurs in the Global South in utilizing e-commerce to reach wider markets. This research paper looks at the adoption of e-commerce as a sustainable marketplace by the micro-entrepreneur sellers from the lower socio-economic rural communities in India, a booming digital economy in the Global South. 'Sustainability' here refers to a model for sustainable economic development sustaining the e-commerce as business model for the rural micro-entrepreneurs to flourish. This paper explores rural development by dismantling the factors that shape the ways technology and trade impact micro-entrepreneurs. The aim is to offer recommendations and solutions to contribute building the e-commerce as a sustainable marketplace for rural micro-entrepreneurs. Recent information and economic policy changes in India, along with the expansion of mobile infrastructure and a growing user base in rural regions makes this research timely and important. By scrutinizing the infrastructure and auditing the information needs and challenges of users, this research will illuminate the gaps that are leading to a lack of sustainable economic development, and information asymmetries discouraging the rural micro-entrepreneurs from selling online. The purpose of the paper is to find hurdles in the sustainable development of e-commerce as a business solution.
Sustainable Development Through a Mobile Application for a Community Clinic

Implementing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions can alleviate pressing problems in society and are a central component of sustainable development. Often, healthcare addresses the symptoms without approaching the socioeconomic limiters that can lead to reduced individual economic freedoms from receiving healthcare. This paper investigates the question: How can technology and training interventions enable clinicians to offer care that addresses the socioeconomic limitations of their patients? This paper observes the implementation of a mobile app designed to offer people who cannot access health resources in Omaha, Nebraska, a city in the Midwestern United States. This study follows the design science and action research approach, with clinicians participating in developing the mobile app. As a result of COVID, patients no longer have access to the free clinic because it was shut down. The app is available to the broader community needing basic resources to stay healthy. Through sets of application revisions and observations of usage, this paper arrives at insights into how such applications can support multi-ethnic and underserved communities. The contribution of this paper is to provide contextually specific and rich descriptions of how to implement sustainable ICT solutions to meet the information needs of patients in underserved communities.
