We establish the global existence and uniqueness of classical solutions to the Cauchy problem for the isentropic compressible Navier‐Stokes equations in three spatial dimensions with smooth initial data that are of small energy but possibly large oscillations with constant state as far field, which could be either vacuum or nonvacuum. The initial density is allowed to vanish, and the spatial measure of the set of vacuum can be arbitrarily large; in particular, the initial density can even have compact support. These results generalize previous results on classical solutions for initial densities being strictly away from vacuum and are the first for global classical solutions that may have large oscillations and can contain vacuum states. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Periodicity is a common feature of time series. For finite-dimensional data, periodic autoregressive moving average (ARMA) models have been extensively studied. In functional time series analysis, AR models have been extended to incorporate periodicity, but existing approaches remain incomplete and do not cover the ARMA setting. This paper develops a rigorous theoretical framework for functional periodic ARMA (fPARMA) processes in general separable Hilbert spaces. The proposed model class accommodates periodically varying dependence structures. We derive sufficient conditions for periodic stationarity, the existence of finite moments, and weak dependence. Moreover, we study Yule-Walker-type estimators for the fPAR operators and, in a specific setting, estimators for the fPARMA operators, and establish convergence rates under Sobolev-type regularity assumptions.

The aircraft routing problem is one of the most studied problems of operations research applied to aircraft management. It involves assigning flights to aircraft while ensuring regular visits to maintenance bases. This paper examines two aspects of the problem. First, we explore the relationship between periodic instances, where flights are the same every day, and periodic solutions. The literature has implicitly assumed-without discussion-that periodic instances necessitate periodic solutions, and even periodic solutions in a stronger form, where every two airplanes perform either the exact same cyclic sequence of flights, or completely disjoint cyclic sequences. However, enforcing such periodicity may eliminate feasible solutions. We prove that, when regular maintenance is required at most every four days, there always exist periodic solutions of this form. Second, we consider the computational hardness of the problem. Even if many papers in this area refer to the NP-hardness of the aircraft routing problem, such a result is only available in the literature for periodic instances. We establish its NP-hardness for a non-periodic version. Polynomiality of a special but natural case is also proven.

In this paper, we propose a method that learns a general representation of periodic signals from unlabeled facial videos by capturing subtle changes in skin tone over time. The proposed framework employs the video masked autoencoder to learn a high-dimensional spatio-temporal representation of the facial region through self-supervised learning. Capturing quasi-periodic signals in the video is crucial for remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) estimation. To account for signal periodicity, we apply frame masking in terms of video sampling, which allows the model to capture resampled quasi-periodic signals during the pre-training stage. Moreover, the framework incorporates physiological bandlimit constraints, leveraging the property that physiological signals are sparse within their frequency bandwidth to provide pulse cues to the model. The pre-trained encoder is then transferred to the rPPG task, where it is used to extract physiological signals from facial videos. We evaluate the proposed method through extensive experiments on the PURE, UBFC-rPPG, MMPD, and V4V datasets. Our results demonstrate significant performance improvements, particularly in challenging cross-dataset evaluations. Our code is available at https://github.com/ziiho08/Periodic-MAE.

The purpose of the article is to highlight the history of the creation, quantitative and qualitative indicators of the literary and artistic periodical Zhyttya y revolyutsiya (Life and Revolution); an in-depth analysis of a series of articles by the bibliographer, book critic and publisher P.O. Balytsky on the history of Ukrainian book, which were published on its pages. Methodology. In the process of studying the activities of the periodical Zhyttya y revolyutsiya, the mainand secondary scientific methods were used: historical, descriptive, comparative, analysis and synthesis. The research is based on the analytical-culturological method. Scientific novelty. Despite the great popularity of the magazine Zhyttya y revolyutsiya in the 1920s, there are few references to it in the source database. Thanks to a thorough scientific search, it was possible to find out the historical circumstances of its creation, its original purpose, evolutionary changes, editorial team, content, authorship. Most importantly, the article is the first to analyze a series of bibliographic publications by Pavlo Balytsky, a well-known Ukrainian specialist in publishing, bibliographer, and editor of the Drukar publishing house. Conclusions. P. Balytsky conducted a thorough analysis of Ukrainian book printing in the first half of the 19th century from the point of view of the technical and artistic design of the book. He is an outstanding Ukrainian bibliographer, librarian, book scholar, publisher, and teacher. Itis with his name that the creation of the powerful publishing house Drukar is associated, the activities of which are currently being studied. The analysis of Balytsky’s journal publications Studies in the History of the Ukrainian Bookon the pages of the journal Zhyttya y revolyutsiya gives grounds to assert: the articles demonstrate a high level of mastery of the material, information richness, mastery of the terminological apparatus, thoughtful use of various methods of searching for sources, synthetic and historical-analytical methods of presenting information. Not only for its time, but also to this day, Studies of the History of the Ukrainian Book have retained significant scientific and popul arvalue and will interest both a specialist librarian and an ordinary reader who is interested in the history of Ukrainian book publishing.

This article investigates the issue of euphemistic lexicon used in Russian periodicals of the early 21st century. The purpose of the study is to analyse the functional features of euphemisms, the specifics of their use in media discourse, and to determine their role in the manipulation of public opinion. The material of the study consisted of texts in modern Russian socio-political periodicals. Examples of euphemistic units from the newspaper sub-corpus of the National Corpus of the Russian Language are used as illustrative material. The manipulative potential of euphemisms is manifested in masking the true meaning of the message by creating a neutral or positive connotation, distorting the real scale of events or phenomena. Publicistic discourse is a source of information for a wide audience, which strengthens the influential role of euphemistic lexicon. The central focus of the study is to identify priority topics belonging to the socio-political sphere that are subject to euphemisation in the modern Russian press. There is an indication of an increase in the number of euphemisms related to socially significant topics and spheres of human activity in the journalistic discourse. The characteristic feature of this group is its close connection with socio-cultural processes. The repeated use of euphemism weakens its key function and stimulates the formation of new euphemistic units. The use of some euphemisms in publicistic discourse is dictated by the norms of political correctness in modern communication. The results of the study presented in the article indicate a fairly wide use of euphemisms in the language of the modern Russian press.

Period bouncers are cataclysmic variables (CVs) that have evolved past their orbital period minimum. The strong disagreement between theory and observations of the relative fraction of period bouncers is a severe shortcoming in the understanding of CV evolution. We test the implications of the hypothesis that magnetic braking (MB), which is suggested to be an additional angular momentum loss (AML) mechanism for CVs below the period gap ($P_\mathrm{orb}\lesssim 120$ min), weakens around their period minimum. We compute the evolution of CV donors below the period gap using the MESA code, assuming that the evolution of the system is driven by AML by gravitational wave radiation (GWR) and MB. We parametrize the MB strength as $\mathrm{AML_{MB}}=κ\mathrm{AML_{GWR}}$. We compute two qualitatively different sets of models, one where $κ$ is a constant and the other where $κ$ depends on stellar parameters. We find that two crucial effects drive the latter set of models. (1) A decrease in $κ$ as CVs approach the period minimum stalls their evolution so that they spend a long time in the observed period minimum spike ($80\lesssim P_\mathrm{orb}/\,\mathrm{min}\lesssim 86$). Here, they become difficult to distinguish from pre-bounce systems in the spike. (2) A strong decrease in the mass-transfer rate makes them virtually undetectable as they evolve further. So, the CV stalls around the period minimum and then `disappears'. This reduces the number of detectable bouncers. Physical processes, such as dynamo action, white dwarf magnetism, and dead zones, may cause such a weakening of MB at short orbital periods. The weakening magnetic braking formalism provides a possible solution to the problem of the lack of period bouncers in CV observational surveys.

We consider one dimensional chains of interacting particles subjected to one dimensional almost-periodic media. We formulate and prove two KAM type theorems corresponding to both short-range and long-range interactions respectively. Both theorems presented have an a posteriori format and establish the existence of almost-periodic equilibria. The new part here is that the potential function is given by some almost-periodic function with infinitely many incommensurate frequencies. In both cases, we do not need to assume that the system is close to integrable. We will show that if there exists an approximate solution for the functional equations, which satisfies some appropriate non-degeneracy conditions, then a true solution nearby is obtained. This procedure may be used to validate efficient numerical computations. Moreover, to well understand the role of almost-periodic media which can be approximated by quasi-periodic ones, we present a different approach -- the step by step increase of complexity method -- to the study of the above results of the almost-periodic models.

Introduction. There is a gap in the scientific literature in the description of the history of the city of Pyatigorsk, which was the center of the North Caucasus Region (NCR) in 1934 – May 1937. Based on the prospect of expanding the city towards the Lermontov junction area, the first secretary of the regional committee of the CPSU(b), who recently headed the state security agencies of the NCR, together with his former subordinates, facilitated the construction of a large sports complex “Dynamo”. However, information about this object, which did not exist after the end of the Great Patriotic War, is missing in the local history literature.Materials and methods. The study is based on the analysis of materials from the collections of the Pyatigorsk Museum of Local Lore, the State Archive of the Stavropol Krai, primarily regional periodicals of the period under review (newspapers “Severo-Kavkazskiy Bolshevik”, “Ordzhonikidzevskaya Pravda”, etc.). The study uses a systematic integrated approach, specific historical and comparative historical methods. Analysis. The analysis showed that Yefim Evdokimov, even after his appointment as the first secretary of the regional committee of the CPSU(b), continued to remain the unspoken head of the “North Caucasian team” of OGPU–NKVD workers who were in leadership positions in the Center, in different regions of the country, and naturally in the North Caucasus Region. The Dynamo Sports Complex named after E. G. Evdokimov was directly supervised by the regional security authorities, who ensured the construction of the facility in the shortest possible time.Results. According to the results of the study, it can be concluded that the transfer of the regional center to Voroshilovsk (Stavropol) did not allow the implementation of the construction project of the Belaya Romashka district, of which the Dynamo stadium could become an integral part. This area, as noted above, remained an urban suburb until the end of the 1950s. Due to the fact that the region and the city were led by Soviet and Party leaders (Evdokimov, Pivovarov, etc.), repressed in the second half of the 1930s, the Dynamo sports complex in Pyatigorsk ceased to exist, and the name of its founder was forgotten.

In this paper, we study the destabilization of synchronous periodic solutions for patch models. By applying perturbation theory for matrices, we derive asymptotic expressions of the Floquet spectra and provide a destabilization criterion for synchronous periodic solutions arising from closed orbits or degenerate Hopf bifurcations in terms of period functions. Finally, we apply the main results to the well-known two-patch Holling-Tanner model.

Peculiarities and factors of shaping of the emotional attitudes of Russian children and adolescents to the Anglo-Boer War of 1899–1902 have not yet attracted the attention of researchers. However, the armed conflict in distant South Africa left a deep impression on children and teenagers in the Russian Empire, which was not been erased decades later. Prerequisites for the interest of young Russians in the Anglo-Boer War were that for many of them the remote South Africa was familiar. Thanks to adventure novels, they had an idea about this region, albeit a romanticized one. For Russian schoolchildren, the increased attention of their adult compatriots to the events in southern Africa testified to the importance of this military conflict. Inspired by the example of adults, they closely followed the course of hostilities and made donations to the Boer cause. Knowing that some of the Boer commandos included teenagers, young inhabitants of the Russian Empire dreamed of going to South Africa to help the defenders of the Transvaal and the Orange Free State. The realities of a large-scale and cruel war did not displace the former romantic ideas in the minds of schoolchildren. The war only led to the emergence of other adventure stories based on South African material, which spread through popular culture, including literature and periodicals for children and adolescents.

The purpose of the article is to establish the possibilities of the electronic collection Literary and artistic journals of the era of Ukrainianizat historical and cultural heritage of Ukraine in the period of the 20s and 30s of the 20th century in the electronic environment; to investigate the principles of its classification, semantic tools for the organization of users’ remote work, taking into account modern requirements for library digital resources and sources of scientific information. The research мethodology. In the process of research of the electronic collection and its practical management, a complex of research methods was used: comparative-historical, systemic-structural, generalization, descriptive-analytical, cultural, and it gave the author the opportunity to make it most of the set goal. The scientific novelty. Thanks to a thorough analysis of the construction principles, semantic tools, and content of one of the most interesting and popular among electronic collections’ users, the role and significance of using this type of digital humanitarianism for researchers of the Executed Renaissance and common users interested in the history of Ukrainian periodicals were revealed for the first time. The subject of research there is an electronic collection Literary and artistic journals of the era of Ukrainization, which is part of the electronic library Ukrainika of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine. It is based on digitized copies of magazines from the 20s - 30s of the 20th century from own funds. Relevance of research. Periodicals of Ukraine of the outlined period were repeatedly the object of interest for literary experts, historians, journalists, and cultural experts. Quantitative and qualitative indicators of literary and artistic publications reflect the state of the literary process at a certain stage and serve as one of the sources of studying the history of literature and literary criticism. A wide range of literary periodicals testifies to the active organic development of the literary process in the country, its vitality and potential opportunities. Conclusions. Collections of periodicals, both scientific and mass, have great scientific, cultural, artistic, educational value. They present materials of various content, containing factual, scientific, entertainment, illustrative (graphic) and other information. During the Executed Renaissance period, literary and artistic magazines not only promoted artistic creativity, but also performed the function of popularizing social and political thought, new philosophical and aesthetic ideas, artistic trends, and critical thought. At different moments of their existence, they not only carry relevant information, but also are point of interest as historical documents, as well as a subject of sociological, local history and other studies. And, as a result, collections of periodicals traditionally are in great demand in libraries.

1. IntroductionThe scientific articles that are published in the periodicals of any country are among the most important scientific treasures of that country. One of the issues that has attracted the attention of researchers and literary critics is the analysis of humor and the works of humorists, as one of the most important tools for understanding the thoughts and cultures and social and political characteristics of different societies. The literature of every society, with the help of the element of humor, goes against the unfavorable situations of the society, and on its way, it causes changes in different aspects, and this affects such social, political and cultural fields and is mutually affected by them. Therefore, satirical studies provide us with valuable information about various political, social and cultural issues of different societies. On the other hand, with the growth and development of comparative studies, the researchers of different nations have investigated and compared humor and the works of their humorists with different nations and investigated their differences and similarities and the causes and contexts of these similarities and differences as well as their impact on They have shown interest in each other. Today, we see many comparative studies in the field of humor studies. By examining and analyzing the content of comparative humor research articles, this research shows the quantity and quality of these articles, and to what extent they are written based on the scientific principles of comparative studies, and what are their strengths and weaknesses. MethodologyThis research has analyzed 39 comparative scientific articles in the field of humor research using the content analysis method. First, by using famous Persian websites such as Noormags.ir, Magiran.com, Humanities Comprehensive Portal, Academic Jihad Scientific Database (SID.ir), etc. Either the abstract or the keywords of comparative literature and humor have been used, it was determined, then the articles were reviewed and evaluated according to the criteria approved by comparative literature, and the results were determined on the graph. Discussion Pathology of comparative satirical essaysIn order to explain the meaning of comparative literature, we should linger more in front of its concept, to remove what the comparative researchers have wrongly put in the category of comparative literature. In this section, the pathology of comparative research in the field of humor has been discussed under the two topics of subject matter and research methodology, and cases such as methodology in research, incomplete understanding of comparative literature and only finding similarities and differences in works, having creativity and innovation, addressing generalizations. And inattention to details, lack of use of reliable scientific sources, ignorance or knowledge of the principles of comparative literature have been examined in researches. ConclusionA high frequency of articles written in the field of comparative studies, inspired by the word (adaptation), have limited themselves to comparing the similarities and differences of two works and have chosen the title (comparative review) for their articles; Now that comparative literature has important principles that it is international and intercultural and interdisciplinary, examining the influence and influences of cultures and works of literature on each other, important factors and contexts in the influence of one culture on another culture and why and how the similarities and differences are, and also examining The transformative elements are among the most important of these principles. In the list of sources of most of the comparative articles published in the field of humor studies, not even one of the reliable and important sources of the field of comparative studies can be seen, and even in some cases, no comparison has been made regarding the similarities and differences, and throughout the article, only the word comparative is mentioned in the title. The articles written in the field of comparative literature lack structure and scientific content in most cases, the research method is not given, or the term (descriptive analysis based on comparison) is sufficient, and only a handful of articles refer to the American or French school of comparative literature is mentioned. The articles that have the necessary knowledge about comparative literature are those that, while referring to the concept of comparative studies, have introduced their research outside of the comparative field.

The COVID-19 crisis is arguably the most important development of the 21st century so far and takes its place alongside the great eruptions of the past century. As with any crisis, the current pandemic has stimulated visions and proposals for post-COVID-19 societies. Our focus is on narratives—both predictive and prescriptive—that envisage post-COVID-19 political societies. Combining narrative analysis with thematic analysis, we argue that societal changes conditioned by the pandemic have accelerated a turn toward five inter-related developments: A renaissance in rationality and evidence-based science; a return to social equality and equity, including wage equity and guaranteed incomes; a reimagining of the interventionist state in response to crises in the economy, society, the welfare state, and social order; a reorientation to the local and communitarian, with reference in particular to solidaristic mutual aid, community animation, local sourcing, and craft production; and the reinvention of democracy through deep participation and deliberative dialogical decision making. The empirical focus of our work is an analysis of predominantly legacy media content from the <i>Canadian Periodicals Index</i> related to life after the pandemic and post-COVID-19 society.

Both relational databases (RDBs) and XML have strengths and weaknesses as data storage and modeling systems. Most researchers working with historical and literary data in the humanities would argue for the superiority of XML, since it allows unlimited nesting, linking, and complexity. Relational database proponents claim superior querying and processing speed, although recent advances in XML languages and tools have eroded that advantage. Nevertheless, RDBs remain popular and are widely used, particularly in the early stages of projects where resources and metadata are being collected, and projects may end up with both an RDB and an XML document collection. Programmers must then integrate these distinct forms of data when building project outputs. This article discusses the Digital Victorian Periodical Poetry (DVPP) project, where metadata on about 15,000 poems from nineteenth-century periodicals is captured in a MySQL database, and periodically exported to create a TEI file for each poem. Many of the poems are then transcribed and encoded. The canonical source of metadata is the RDB, while the canonical source of textual data is the TEI file. Metadata in the TEI files must be periodically updated from the RDB, without disturbing the textual encoding. Changes to the RDB data may result in changes to the id and filename of the related TEI file, so any existing TEI data is migrated to a new file, and the Subversion repository must be appropriately updated. All of this is done with XSLT and Ant.

The main goal of this paper is to study the unitary Friedberg-Jacquet period through their connection with the unitary Shalika period. Locally we study the multiplicity of unitary Friedberg-Jacquet periods for discrete series. Globally we prove one direction of a conjecture of Xiao-Zhang, stating that the non-vanishing of a global unitary Friedberg-Jacquet period implies the non-vanishing of the central value of the (twisted) standard L-function.
