L’atlante e la danza: percorsi di una ricerca coreo-drammaturgica tra il butoh di Hijikata e la filosofia delle immagini

Éden Peretta

The research at the heart of this essay began in 2018 and gradually gained depth as the creative processes underlying it were updated in various pedagogical and artistic contexts. The methodological proposal for choreographic-dramaturgical creation that was arrived at is based on a critical and negative use of images, i.e. on the destabilisation of their forms and the deconstruction of their “figurability”, rather than on their affirmation in a mimetic perspective. The research was initially inspired by the poetics and procedures used by the creator of butoh dance, Tatsumi Hijikata, and their potential intersections with the universe of image philosophy, in particular with the contributions of philosopher Georges Didi-Huberman and his dialogue with the works of Aby Warburg and Georges Bataille. The aim of this article is, therefore, to present some of the conceptual principles of this methodology, as well as to report on some practical creative experiences in which what I have defined as the “choreo-dramaturgical atlas” has been applied and developed in more complex forms in recent years, both in the undergraduate and postgraduate courses I have taught and in the creative process of the university artistic research group I coordinate.

Accelerating an Olympic Decathlete’s Return to Competition Using High-Frequency Blood Flow Restriction Training: A Case Report

Chris Gaviglio, Stephen P. Bird

This case report describes the acceleration of an Olympic decathlete’s return to competition induced via high-frequency Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training. BFR has gained popularity as an innovative rehabilitation method for promoting muscle repair and adaptation through anabolic and regenerative pathways when high mechanical loading is not possible. A 26-year-old elite decathlete with nine years of international experience sustained a Grade 2b strain of the semimembranosus and semitendinosus (a 9 mm central tendon tear) during a hurdle sprint. The injury was confirmed via MRI two days post-injury. Grade 2b hamstring injuries with intramuscular tendon involvement commonly require up to 4 weeks of rehabilitation before full training can be resumed. With the athlete due to complete in an Olympic Games competition 17 days post-injury, an intensive BFR-assisted rehabilitation program was initiated. Over 12 consecutive days, the athlete completed 3–6 BFR sessions per day (20–30 min each) at 50% limb occlusion pressure, along with physiotherapy and pain-limited functional testing. BFR was applied passively for recovery, during conditioning, and in low-load strength sessions. By day 12, sprint velocity reached 95% maximum, and the athlete successfully completed the decathlon, with no adverse effects or reinjury. This case illustrates how high-frequency BFR-assisted rehabilitation may facilitate accelerated recovery from a hamstring injury, enabling an effective return to elite competition within condensed timelines.

Comparing Thirty30 Tennis with Traditional Tennis

Peter O'Donoghue, Mark Milne

Thirty30 is a shorter format of tennis where games start at 30-30. This means that a greater proportion of points are game points or break points than would be the case in traditional tennis. The purpose of the current paper is to compare the probability of players of different abilities winning games, sets and matches between Thirty30 tennis and traditional tennis. This is done using probabilistic models of each format of tennis. The results show that there is reduced dominance of the serve and a greater probability of upsets in Thirty30 tennis than in traditional tennis. The models are also experimented with, adjusting the probability of winning points where the point is a game point or a break point. The paper shows that such scoreline effects have a greater impact in Thirty30 tennis than they do in traditional tennis. This has implications for player preparation for Thirty30 tennis.

Development and validation of an equation to estimate body fat in elderly women

Vinicius de Oliveira Damasceno, Tercio Araújo do Rego Barros, Willemax dos Santos Gomes et al.

The purpose of this present study was to develop and validate a prediction equation for body composition assessment using anthropometric measures of elderly women. This is cross-sectional correlational study with 243 older women ± 64.5 years old and body mass index (BMI) ± 28.70 kg/m². For the development of the equation it was utilized the method of hold-out sample validation. The participants were randomly divided into equation development group (96 elderly women) and a group for validation (147 elderly women). Total body mass, height, waist and hip circumferences, ratio waist-hip ratio and BMI were measured. The whole-body dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) assessed body composition (percentage of body fat, fat mass, and fat-free mass). The equations were developed using multiple linear regression, with validation by the stepwise method; the comparison of the equations was analyzed by the paired Student's t test and the analysis of residual scores by the method of Blant and Altman. The New Equation presents a strong correlation (R = 0.83) and (R² = 0.69), and a standard error of estimation equals to 3.21% for percentage body fat prediction. The mean difference between the estimations of percentage body fat from DXA and the New Equation was 0.11% (t(0,180);  P = 0.850). Therefore, the New Equation had an accuracy of 93.5% and a total error of 1.8%. The body fat estimation in older women using this New Equation based on BMI and age is valid and accurate.

Validation of gyroscope sensors for snow sports performance monitoring

Ross Cameron, Lambs Peter, McAlpine Paul et al.

Wearable sensors that can be used to measure human performance outcomes are becoming increasingly popular within sport science research. Validation of these sensors is vital to ensure accuracy of extracted data. The aim of this study was to establish the validity and reliability of gyroscope sensors contained within three different inertial measurement units (IMU). Three IMUs (OptimEye, I Measure U and Logger A) were fixed to a mechanical calibration device that rotates through known angular velocities and positions. RMS scores for angular displacement, which were calculated from the integrated angular velocity vectors, were 3.85° ± 2.21° and 4.34° ± 2.57° for the OptimEye and IMesU devices, respectively. The RMS error score for the Logger A was 22.76° ± 23.22°, which was attributed to a large baseline shift of the angular velocity vector. After a baseline correction of all three devices, RMS error scores were all below 3.90°. Test re-test reliability of the three gyroscope sensors were high with coefficient of variation (CV%) scores below 2.5%. Overall, the three tested IMUs are suitable for measuring angular displacement of snow sports manoeuvres after baseline corrections have been made. Future studies should investigate the accuracy and reliability of accelerometer and magnetometer sensors contained in each of the IMUs to be used to identify take-off and landing events and the orientation of the athlete at those events.

Toshaba Channa, Syed Asim Hussain

The study about the skills, art and science of movement of human being is known as Physical education, it is necessary for whole educational procedure. The main purpose of PE is the progress of human being. It plays a significant part in the activity levels of athletes. Physical education not only fulfills a distinctive part in education, but is also an essential component of sports activities. In this paper a concise review of the research on students perception about the coaching performance of college female directress sports have been presented. Student ratings are most important to assess of teaching effectiveness, active contribution and meaningful participation from students can be significant in the success of such teaching assessment systems. For this purpose the total number of subjects N=90 girls students (45 each from BA part I and BA part II) were used as a sample of the study from nine G. G. D. C of Hyderabad city to assess the coaching performance of female directress sports. The five point Likert scale was applied to collect the data, which ranges from “strongly agrees” to “strongly disagree”. The outcome of the study concluded that generally the female Directress sports coaching techniques were better and they comprise the potential to exhibit, train, assess, and exact the techniques. The present study outcome may demonstrate that students are usually considered for progress in teaching to be the most important for the result of a teaching evaluation system. Furthermore, the result shows that through student’s feedback about coaching evaluations the course content and format can be developed. Students should be encouraged to participate in the coaching evaluation system because through this they will be able to provide significant opinion. Quality students participation is essential sign to improve teaching efficiency.

To continue or discontinue aspirin? The risk of perioperative complications

Anna Mroczek, Kamil Bałabuszek, Agnieszka Radzka et al.

Acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) is a noncompetitive irreversible antagonist of the enzyme cyclooxygenase 1 (COX1). This drug is commonly used in prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events due to inhibition of platelet function. Because of the risk of surgical hemorrhage it is recommended to cessation aspirin intake couple days before the surgical intervention. However, discontinuation of aspirin treatment may results in increased risk of thrombotic events and perioperative complications. Antithrombotic Trialist's Collaboration proved that low dose of aspirin intake before surgery reduces the risk of nonfatal myocardial infarction by 33%, vascular events by 17% and nonfatal stroke by 25%. However, some studies showed the increased risk of perioperative bleeding in patients continuing aspirin treatment. The position of experts is not unambiguous and there have been doubts about the necessity of discontinuation or continuation this drug before surgery.

Fasoranti Afolabi Joseph, Mercy Onwuama, Aladesokun Toluwalase

Opportunities for young girls in sexual health education is being discriminated against because there are beliefs that girls that know too much can become wayward. Adolescent girls are faced with so many challenges ranging from cultural and parental pressures. This study sought to evaluate the access to health information and family influence on reproductive health literacy amongst adolescent girls. The sample size comprised two hundred and fifty females (n-250) students selected through purposive sampling method. The research instrument is a self-developed structured and validated questionnaire while descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentages was used to analyze the responses. Two hypotheses were postulated. Findings showed that access to health information regarding reproductive health is limited and also family influence reproductive health literacy. The study therefore recommends that parents should educate their young daughters about family planning method and teachers should take out time from their allotted schedule to discuss sexual related issues with the adolescents in the school.
