Research on the evolution and influencing factors of carbon emission efficiency in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration

Zhe Yang, Chao Hu

Enhancing carbon emission efficiency is a critical pathway for advancing global climate governance and achieving the “Dual Carbon” goals. Precisely mapping the spatiotemporal evolution patterns of carbon emission efficiency in urban agglomerations and thoroughly analyzing the underlying driving mechanisms are of paramount importance for optimizing the nation’s overall carbon neutrality pathway. This study examines 26 cities within the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration from 2005 to 2023. Employing methods such as the Super-EBM model, exploratory spatiotemporal data analysis, and the Tobit model, it delves into the spatiotemporal evolution of carbon emission efficiency and its influencing factors. Key findings include: (1) Overall carbon emission efficiency remained stable at approximately 0.85 during the study period, with minor fluctuations. (2) Significant spatial disparities in carbon emission efficiency emerged, exhibiting gradually increasing convergence. (3) Local spatial structures of carbon emission efficiency were relatively dynamic yet demonstrated strong spatial dependence, while overall spatial structures remained stable with pronounced spatial cohesion. (4) Urbanization level, economic development level, population density, degree of openness, and technological innovation have a significant impact on improving carbon emission efficiencye, whereas industrial structure and environmental regulation showed no significant promotional impact.

Lattice QCD at finite temperature: some aspects related to chiral symmetry

Gert Aarts

Out of the many exciting results obtained with the lattice approach to QCD under extreme conditions, I discuss a few selected items related to chiral symmetry: the chiral condensate as an approximate order parameter, meson screening masses, and masses of baryons and mesons, including D(s) mesons, when approaching the crossover from the hadronic side.

THE INDUSTRIAL IDENTITY OF EKATERINBURG: THE IMAGE OF THE CITY IN THE ARCHITECTURE OF HISTORICALLY FORMED INDUSTRIAL COMPLEXES

Solonina Nadezhda S., Tsorik Alena V., Shipitsyna Olga A.

The article presents an argument for the importance of studying the industrial identity of Ekaterinburg, which implies the need to reveal the city’s industrial framework. A methodology has been developed to enable the creation of a model of this framework. The model includes three stages, in accordance with which the results of the study are presented. The main historical industrial complexes of Ekaterinburg have been identified and studied: Ekaterinburg’s Iron-Making Mill (“History Park”), Verkh-Isetsky Mill, and Uralmash Mill. A survey/quiz was carried out among Ekaterinburg residents to find out their attitude to the industrial heritage under study. The spatial-semantic system of interactions between the historically formed industrial complexes of Ekaterinburg as the city’s industrial framework has been determined and substantiated. Prospects for further development of the framework are outlined with the aim of integrating all existing historical industrial sites and facilities of Ekaterinburg and creating new sightseeing routes for getting acquainted with the industrial history of the city.

Aesthetics of digital formation with the beginning of the twenty-first century

Soha Hassan, Doaa Goda, Saeed Hassan Abdel – Rahman

Change is a characteristic of every revolution that occurred when it took place. The rise of the industrial revolution and the technological revolution accompanied effects on various aspects of life, economic, political, literary, artistic, and architectural. By the age of information, it seemed that it was the beginning of a new revolution, the digital revolution. Here is the necessity for change caused by the revolutions on various aspects of life like thought, art and architecture that is the front of civilization and progress of society. Digital architecture helps the designer to create many difficult and complex combos by using the computer easily; it also gives him the freedom to choose the best design and The different digital architecture from the traditional architecture not only in the outer appearance but created a more freer interior spaces are flexible, dynamic and interactive, Which contributed to changing the aesthetic view of the digital revolution, It drew a new path of beauty outside the framework of academic limitations and freed artistic beauty from the restrictions imposed on it in the past, which weakened classical aesthetics and gave way to new aesthetic theories.Because beauty is an important and necessary aspect of human life, The digital design is considered a revolutionary design not only because of its different forms resulting from it, but also to its ability to suggest non-standard design alternatives and designs that move away from repetition, as the designer frees from closed ideas where straight lines and sharp angles to free dynamic lines and variable rhythm and high flexibility and interaction between the surrounding environment from During the response to the external influences of the building. The problem of research on the possibility of Explain how to Understanding the aesthetic values for digital formation and use it to developing the designer's skills and creative capabilities and to create a compatible design environment in all its elements, which is (function, form and beauty).

This report was submitted as part of the SKA Low Frequency Aperture Array Critical Design Review describing the design of the SKA1-LOW station that took place between 2013 and 2018. The SKA1 LOW field station is inscribed in a circular area having an effective station diameter (centre to centre) of 38 meters and has 256 SKALA4 elements. This document describes the electromagnetic design of the field station. In particular it describes the layout design and the electromagnetic modelling and characteristics of the station. This document describes the effects associated with the layout and array such as mutual coupling effects, side lobe pattern and beam shape (eg. smoothness, calibration models) and presents the state of the art of our ability to measure the array performance and validate the simulation work. The current LFAA field node requirements, derived from the SKA L1 requirements, have evolved over the last years since the LFAA PDR and the System Baseline Design. The SKA1 LOW field station has been designed to meet those requirements and has therefore tracked their evolution (eg. sensitivity requirements, array diameter, etc.). The aforementioned requirements represent a very tight space with a desire for very high sensitivity over a large frequency range (7 to 1) and wide field of view (90 degrees cone around zenith) while keeping the station diameter to a minimum, so as the filling factor but at the same time allowing for sufficient space between antennas to allow for easy maintenances, amongst many others. This results in a complex design.

iCassava 2019 Fine-Grained Visual Categorization Challenge

Ernest Mwebaze, Timnit Gebru, Andrea Frome et al.

Viral diseases are major sources of poor yields for cassava, the 2nd largest provider of carbohydrates in Africa. At least 80% of small-holder farmer households in Sub-Saharan Africa grow cassava. Since many of these farmers have smart phones, they can easily obtain photos of dis-eased and healthy cassava leaves in their farms, allowing the opportunity to use computer vision techniques to monitor the disease type and severity and increase yields. How-ever, annotating these images is extremely difficult as ex-perts who are able to distinguish between highly similar dis-eases need to be employed. We provide a dataset of labeled and unlabeled cassava leaves and formulate a Kaggle challenge to encourage participants to improve the performance of their algorithms using semi-supervised approaches. This paper describes our dataset and challenge which is part of the Fine-Grained Visual Categorization workshop at CVPR2019.

Bias and dessins

Jonathan Fine

Grothendieck's theory of dessins provides a bridge between algebraic numbers and combinatorics. This paper adds a new concept, called 'bias', to the bridge. This produces: (i) from a biased plane tree the construction of a sequence of algebraic numbers, and (ii) a Galois invariant lattice structure on the set of biased dessins. Bias brings these benefits by (i) using individual polynomials instead of equivalence classes of polynomials, and (ii) applying properties of covering spaces and the fundamental group. The new features give new opportunities. At the 2014 SIGMAP conference the author spoke [1] on 'The decorated lattice of biased dessins'. This decorated lattice $\mathcal{L}$ is combinatorially defined, and its automorphism group contains the absolute Galois group $Γ$, perhaps as an index 6 subgroup. This paper defines new families of invariants of dessins, although they require further work to be understood and useful. For this, $\mathcal{L}$ is vital. This paper relies on the the existing, unbiased, theory. Also, it only sketches the construction of $\mathcal{L}$. In [2], [3] the author will remove this dependency, develop the biased theory further, with a focus on $Γ$, and make the theory more accessible.

Introductory lectures on lattice QCD at nonzero baryon number

Gert Aarts

These lecture notes contain an elementary introduction to lattice QCD at nonzero chemical potential. Topics discussed include chemical potential in the continuum and on the lattice; the sign, overlap and Silver Blaze problems; the phase boundary at small chemical potential; imaginary chemical potential; and complex Langevin dynamics. An incomplete overview of other approaches is presented as well. These lectures are meant for postgraduate students and postdocs with an interest in extreme QCD. A basic knowledge of lattice QCD is assumed but not essential. Some exercises are included at the end.

The suffering of arts entrepreneurs: Will fine art students be educated on how to become successfully self-employed?

M. Thom

The aim of the study is to show whether, how and to what extent fine art students will be equipped with entrepreneurial skills and therefore be educated on how to make a living as a practicing artist. A comprehensive and comparative analysis of Fine Art degree programmes and extra-curricular training offerings at higher education institutions (HEIs) in the UK and Germany was carried out. By using various key performance indicators this study shows evidence that the crucial entrepreneurial skills for a successful self-employment in the arts are only taught to a very small extent if even at all.
