Abstract The conclusion briefly situates the project of Republic in the context of Plato’s entire corpus and offers some suggestions as to why we today find its defence of justice so philosophically appealing. In contrast to other dialogues, which often rely upon the interventionist gods, the influence of the sophistic debate forced Plato to offer a largely secular argument in Republic.
