A szerzők saját tapasztalatai alapján a WHOOP használata jelentős támogatást nyújtott a tudatosabb életmód kialakításában, a pihentetőbb alvás elérésében és a terhelés-tervezés finomhangolásában.

P5 Model Approach in Alcohol Use Disorders: A Narrative Review of Deaddiction through Ayurveda Perspective

Karishma Pauriyal, Annusuiya Gohil, Nidhi Sharma et al.

Background: Ayurveda has long recognized the harmful effects of excessive alcohol consumption, known as Madatyaya. P5 model provides a holistic approach to alcohol abuse treatment. Ayurvedic management of alcohol use disorders (AUD) involves detoxification (Shodhana), modifications in diet and lifestyle (Ahara and Vihara), and psychological interventions such as Sattvavajaya Chikitsa, which focuses on cognitive restructuring and mindfulness techniques. Objective: The objective is to assess the applicability and effectiveness of the P5 Model (Predictive, Personalized, Preventive, Participatory, and Psycho-cognitive) in the management and treatment of AUD from an Ayurvedic perspective. Data Source: The references relevant to the above concepts were searched from PubMed, SCOPUS, and Web of Science databases. The relevant portion of Ayurveda is collated from the classical texts. Review Methods: Summarizing and critically analyzing existing literature on an AUD and P5 model without strict inclusion/exclusion criteria. Results: The principles of the P5 model are mentioned extensively in Ayurveda and can be applied in the management of AUD. By analyzing an individual’s physical and mental status through the lens of Ayurveda, early intervention and personalized treatment can be provided. Treatment is tailored to each person’s unique Prakriti, Dosha imbalances, and lifestyle factors. Ayurveda also addresses the psychological and emotional aspects of AUD through therapies such as Sattvavajaya Chikitsa, cognitive restructuring, and mindfulness practices. Encouraging patients to engage in the treatment actively enhances their ability to adopt healthier habits and actively participate in their recovery. Conclusion: By combining the P5 model with Ayurvedic principles, a comprehensive approach to treating AUD is created, tackling not only the physical symptoms but also the psychological, emotional, and social aspects. Ayurveda’s personalized care, tailored to an individual’s constitution and lifestyle, fosters long-term emotional and cognitive healing. With additional research, this model could enhance traditional addiction treatments, offering a more balanced and long-lasting approach to recovery.

Understanding the mental health of adolescents and young adults in rural South Africa through participatory research.

Nondumiso Mthiyane, Mthobisi Zikhali, Sibongiseni Xulu et al.

Most mental health problems in adulthood begin during adolescence. Factors such as poverty, violence, and unemployment contribute to the high burden of mental health problems. In Africa, the lack of resources for diagnosis, treatment, and management exacerbates the situation. Research on adolescent mental health has mostly focused on negative psychological effects, while positive attributes like coping, resilience, and emotional growth have been overlooked. This study explored factors affecting the mental health of adolescents and young adults and to collaboratively identify potential interventions using a participatory research approach. After reviewing the literature, we developed scenarios on issues such as unemployment, violence, poverty and HIV, which were adapted by peer supervisors into role-plays that reflect their local realities. We conducted workshops with ten peer navigators and eight young people, who listed problems affecting their mental health and identified possible interventions. Data from the workshops were synthesized to create a preliminary conceptual framework, which was then refined with input from three professional nurses who work in adolescent-friendly clinics. Young people and peer navigators identified romantic relationships and alcohol use as both contributors to mental health problems and coping strategies for stressors like poverty and violence. These behaviours were also linked to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) risks including unprotected sex. Cultural and spiritual experiences, such as the ancestral calling to become a traditional healer were also described as common in the community and were linked to emotional distress. Participants recommended family-strengthening and community-based interventions to build resilience and promote positive parenting, while respecting existing traditional practices. This study enhances our understanding of mental health challenges among young people and emphasizes the importance of strengthening protective factors such as resilience. It offers guidance for developing culturally appropriate mental health interventions. Further research is needed to examine causal pathways and explore how SRH services and traditional healing practices can be integrated into mental health strategies.

Core outcome sets for trials of interventions to prevent and to treat multimorbidity in adults in low and middle-income countries: the COSMOS study

, Najma Siddiqi, Josefien van Olmen et al.

Introduction The burden of multimorbidity is recognised increasingly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), creating a strong emphasis on the need for effective evidence-based interventions. Core outcome sets (COS) appropriate for the study of multimorbidity in LMICs do not presently exist. These are required to standardise reporting and contribute to a consistent and cohesive evidence-base to inform policy and practice. We describe the development of two COS for intervention trials aimed at preventing and treating multimorbidity in adults in LMICs.Methods To generate a comprehensive list of relevant prevention and treatment outcomes, we conducted a systematic review and qualitative interviews with people with multimorbidity and their caregivers living in LMICs. We then used a modified two-round Delphi process to identify outcomes most important to four stakeholder groups (people with multimorbidity/caregivers, multimorbidity researchers, healthcare professionals and policymakers) with representation from 33 countries. Consensus meetings were used to reach agreement on the two final COS. Registration: https://www.comet-initiative.org/Studies/Details/1580.Results The systematic review and qualitative interviews identified 24 outcomes for prevention and 49 for treatment of multimorbidity. An additional 12 prevention and 6 treatment outcomes were added from Delphi round 1. Delphi round 2 surveys were completed by 95 of 132 round 1 participants (72.0%) for prevention and 95 of 133 (71.4%) participants for treatment outcomes. Consensus meetings agreed four outcomes for the prevention COS: (1) adverse events, (2) development of new comorbidity, (3) health risk behaviour and (4) quality of life; and four for the treatment COS: (1) adherence to treatment, (2) adverse events, (3) out-of-pocket expenditure and (4) quality of life. Conclusion Following established guidelines, we developed two COS for trials of interventions for multimorbidity prevention and treatment, specific to adults in LMIC contexts. We recommend their inclusion in future trials to meaningfully advance the field of multimorbidity research in LMICs.PROSPERO registration number CRD42020197293.

Frank Podmore

For most of his life a clerk in the post office, Frank Podmore (1856–1910) was a prolific author on psychical research. As an undergraduate Podmore became interested in spiritualism, and he joined the British National Association of Spiritualists. Eventually disillusioned by that society, Podmore co-founded several organisations: the Progressive Association (in 1882); the Fellowship of the New Life (1883); and, spurred by his desire to see political change, the Fabian Society (1884). Podmore's membership in the Society for Psychical Research influenced his activities and interests, and he spent the next twenty years investigating and writing on psychical phenomena. Podmore's two-volume Modern Spiritualism (also reissued in this series) is a source for this 1909 work, which 'constituted the most scholarly history of mesmerism and its offshoots to that date', according to one reviewer. This work will interest historians of science and medicine, and scholars of Victorian religious movements.
