This paper assesses the state of inward foreign direct investment (IFDI) and outward foreign direct investment (OFDI), as well as the direct and spatial impact of China’s Belt and Road Initiatives (BRI) on FDI and the degree of coordination synergy between IFDI and OFDI at the provincial level. The paper uses a discontinuous and spatial regression analysis covering 30 Chinese provinces between 2007 and 2019. The results suggest that China’s IFDI and OFDI development has achieved moderate coordination synergy over time. At the provincial level, the BRI has a positive direct impact on IFDI, OFDI and foreign investment coordination synergy. This indicates that with the BRI, China is able to improve OFDI flows and achieve better synergy in foreign investment coordination achieving a more balanced investment development path. Interestingly, the growth of OFDI at the provincial level also had a positive spatial spillover effect, while IFDI displaces domestic investment, the growth of OFDI is able to mitigate the displacement effects. However, the positive effect of BRI was only significant in the eastern region and not in the central and western regions. This indicates the heterogeneous nature of BRI effects, which limits the effectiveness of BRI in promoting FDI growth in China and its coordination synergy as an ambitious global policy.

Purpose: With the emergence of new and extreme sports, it is very important to examine their various aspects. This research deals with the design of the business model in extreme sports clubs with the approach of capital and financial interactions.Methodology: This qualitative research has used the thematic analysis approach to investigate components, communication, and business model design in extreme sports clubs. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with specialists and experts in extreme sports. The thematic analysis approach of Brown and Clark (2006) was used for data analysis.Findings: The findings show that the business model in extreme sports clubs has three basic elements: tangible assets, intangible assets, and stakeholders. Through the two-way relations of these elements with extreme sports clubs, capacities, and dynamics are created for business. According to the type of participants, styles and levels of extreme sports, financial interactions, and social capital formation can be witnessed. This model has a cyclical nature that depends on the interactions between its components.Originality: This research presents an original business model framework for extreme sports clubs. Prior research on business models has yet to delve into the unique characteristics of this industry. This is the first study to explore the interplay between tangible and intangible assets, stakeholders, and the specificities of extreme sports participation (types, styles, and levels) to understand financial interactions and social capital formation within this domain. By highlighting the cyclical nature of this model.

Most polymer materials are thermal and electrical insulators, which have wide potential in advanced energy-power applications including energy conversion. However, polymers get softened when in contact with heat, which causes their molecular chains to flow as the temperature increases. Although polymer dielectrics exhibit high power density, they face challenges of low energy density which is due to the low dielectric permittivity associated with them. Therefore, this study tried to address the poor thermal energy management and low energy density of poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) while maintaining its flexible property using low content of hybrid carbon nanotubes (CNTs–0.05wt%, 0.1wt%) and boron nitride (BN–5wt%, 10wt%) nano-reinforcements. The nanocomposites were developed through solvent mixing and hot compression processes. The dielectric constant increased from 9.1 for the pure PVDF to 42.8 with a low loss of about 0.1 at 100 Hz for PVDF-0.1wt%CNTs-10wt%BN. The thermal stability of the nanocomposites was enhanced by 55°C compared to the pure PVDF. The nanocomposites also showed improved melting and crystallization temperatures. The developed PVDF-CNTs-BN nanocomposites showed significant enhancements in thermal energy management, stability, and dielectric properties. The significantly improved properties are credited to the synergetic effects between CNTs and BN in the PVDF matrix in promoting homogeneous dispersion, thermal barrier, interfacial polarization/bonding, insulative and conductive properties. Therefore, the developed nanomaterials in this study can find advanced applications in the energy-power sector owing to their enhanced performances.

Planning to adopt the Blockchain is very active in many industries, especially in supply chains. Researchers believe that the Radio-frequency identification (RFIDs), yesterday’s Blockchain, is now obsolete. The strongest reason that the Blockchain is the tool of this era is its unique features; real-time information sharing, cyber-security, transparency, reliability, traceability, and visibility, all of which boost the supply-chain performance. Despite the extensive literature on Blockchain, in recent years, no clear framework has defined whether a supply chain should implement Blockchain or not. This study attempts to fill this gap by proposing a framework for complex supply chain networks. In doing so, first, we identified the supply-chain practices of the oil industry in Pakistan, then we empirically analyzed the impact of these practices on operational performance. The results show that the supply chain management (SCM) practices positively impact operational performance. On the other hand, with the help of literature, we identified different Blockchain features and their influence on different supply chain practices. This study guides managers and decision-makers to evaluate their current supply-chain practices and understand the relationship between supply-chain practices and Blockchain features, and how different Blockchain features can help improving supply-chain practices and ultimately improving operational performance.

The article presents a comparative analysis the views on the problem of personality
identity by Neo-Lockeanism (Shoemaker, Parfit, Lewis) and Animalism (Olson,
Snowden, Carter). A certain of main objections to the psychological criterion (the
problem of too many thinkers, the too many persons problem, the thinking parts
problem, etc.) are critically examined. Basic animalist intuitions are refuted by the
embodied person view (McMahan)

In this paper, D.I. Meyer’s two works – “Legal Research on the Commercial Life of Odessa” and “Essay on Russian Law on Bill of Credit” – have been analyzed.
The work “Legal Research on the Commercial Life of Odessa” is a thorough scientific elaboration of three areas of customary law (commission agreement, bills of credit, and marine insurance), as well as the first discussion of trade customs in the Russian literature.
The work “Essay on Russian Law on Bill of Credit”, in turn, can be characterized as the first experience of posthumous use of notes from students of the lectures delivered by D.I. Meyer. A.I. Vitsyn began to compile and publish the lectures delivered by professors that gradually turned into a course of Russian civil law. D.I. Meyer never worked on this work himself.
According to the results of the analysis, the important and been undeservedly forgotten contribution (given the background of more striking successes in the field of civil law teaching) made by D.I. Meyer to the science of Russian commercial law has been revealed. It has been suggested that the title of one of the fathers of Russian civil law should be also supported by D.I. Meyer’s reputation as the “founding father of Russian commercial law”.

By the example of F. M. Dostoevsky’s early works the theme of the comic as the special situation for the hero, both spiritual and actual physical, is considered. Special attention is paid to the motif of the heart as the key to changing comic situation of the hero. Based on the analysis of personal correspondence of Dostoevsky and his brother Mikhail it is argued that knowledge of the world and, as a consequence, the possibility of overcoming the comic situation on the potentials of the heart are among the key themes of F. M. Dostoevsky. Explication of these concepts is carried out on the basis of works “Polzunkov” and “Little hero.” It is shown that special reflexion and resolution they achieve in the novel “Little hero.” The article includes examples of other early works by F. M. Dostoevsky to confirm the research theory and to demonstrate the breadth of the topic. The novelty of the presented work lies in the method, according to which the concept of the comic is seen not as a general literary category, but as a concept introduced by author and used to refer to the special situation for the hero. The relevance of this work is that the proposed method opens a way to the author’s understanding the idea of the comic and gives a chance to trace the development of the author’s conception of the comic.

The hundredth anniversary of World War I has put the spotlight on this period once again. The media coverage of the commemorations is unprecedented and even surprising for a conflict which has remained in the memorial shadow of the even more deadly World War II. While there was every reason to believe that the Great War was only a distant memory, it must also be noted that it is still the object of true curiosity on the part of the general public. The hundredth anniversary has also led to a number of publications, most of which are in keeping with the revival of historical research surrounding World War I for the past twenty years or so. The case of Belgium – the scene of fighting in a territory which was almost completely occupied – has thus been well studied. However, while several recent studies have used Brussels as a framework, a global summary specifically devoted to the capital does not exist. This synopsis thus summarises the material traces and immaterial heritage of the conflict in Brussels. The aim is therefore not to trace the history of Brussels during World War I or to present the latest works on this subject, but rather to answer some simple questions asked by the inhabitants of Brussels today: What remains of World War I in the capital? Who is interested in it, and why? How does this conflict resonate today in Brussels’ memories? How are they reflected in the urban space? In other words, this synopsis reverses the historical temporality to observe the results of the sifting of time.
Children’s literature seems to occupy a secondary position compared to general literature in terms of relevance for the cultural debate. Actually, being on the margins of ‘serious’ literature allows it to avoid the canonical control over literary appropriateness and to introduce “subversive” elements. As an academic subject, a commercial business and a cultural phenomenon, children’s books move more freely between mass culture, entertainment, and educational environments: they can become the symbol of transnational cultural struggles, as well as unconsciously embodying the functioning of dominant stereotypes and taboos. They can certainly bring to our attention the material factors of their production, distribution and reception, and the ways these are enmeshed in contemporary debates over race and gender.
This paper discusses ‘race’ in Italian children’s literature in a comparative perspective, taking into account mainly books and characters, but also cartoons, merchandising, and textbooks. I analyze different processes of racialization: how ‘race’ tends to be suppressed and normalized in commercial products such as The Winx, how it is idealized in works with an educational purpose like the novel Orzowei, by Alberto Manzi, how it is reduced to an easily recognizable stereotype in picturebooks like Pic Badaluk, which borrows the language and images of the colonial fascist era trying to obliterate their implications; and then, how anything that has to do with ‘race’ tends to be identified with social issues and trauma, erasing, for example, the whole post-migrant experience, and limiting access to more interculturally nuanced stories of adventure, experiment and personal growth.

This article identifies three distinct temporal notions in Hume’s aesthetics: passing the test of time, repeated viewing of a work, and the personal aging of the critic. It applies these ideas to the evaluation and enjoyment of films. It characterizes positive, negative, and ambivalent film aging, which are associated with nostalgia, boredom, and comic amusement, respectively, and which bear on our enjoyment, not evaluation, of film. The paper discusses Allen’s Zelig, Antonioni’s La Notte, Cameron’s The Terminator, Lucas’s Star Wars, Scorsese’s Taxi Driver, Spielberg’s E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, and Renoir’s La Règle du Jeu.

We study the effects on results of participants completing a survey more than once, a phenomenon known as farming. Using data from a real social science study as a baseline, three strategies that participants might use to farm are studied by Monte Carlo simulation. Findings show that farming influences survey results and can cause both statistical hypotheses testing Type I (false positive) and Type II (false negative) errors in unpredictable ways.

The number of different languages in Europe by far exceeds the number of countries. All European countries have national languages, and in nearly all of them there are minority languages as well, whereas all major languages have dialects. National borders rarely coincide with linguistic borders, but the latter (including dialect borders) mark by their nature also more or less distinct cultural areas. This paper presents a survey of the different language families represented in Europe: Indo-European, Uralic, Altaic, and the four Caucasian language families, each with their sub-branches and individual languages. Some information is given on characteristic structural phenomena and on the status and history of these languages or language families and on some of their extinct predecessors. The paper ends with a short discussion on the language policy and practices of the institutions of the European Union. Europe lacks a language with the status and power comparable to Indonesian in Indonesia. The policy is therefore based on equal status of all national languages and on respect for all languages, including national minority ones. The practice, however, is unavoidably practical: "the more languages, the more English".
