Opportunities for Bright Beam Generation at the Argonne Wakefield Accelerator (AWA)

Emily Frame, Afnan Al Marzouk, Oksana Chubenko et al.

Bright electron beams have played a critical role in many recent advances in accelerator technology. Producing bright beams via photo-emission is ultimately limited by the mean transverse energy (MTE), which is determined by the photocathode. This paper discusses the opportunity to generate bright electron beams using an upgraded version of the Argonne Wakefield Accelerator (AWA) photo-injector. The focus of this study is to examine the optimal configurations of the AWA photo-injector to produce 100 pC with a ∼100 nm transverse emittance (corresponding to a 5D brightness B5≥1015 A·m−2). The numerical optimization of the AWA photo-injector operating point, including realistic electromagnetic field maps, is presented for the different types of photocathodes under consideration.

PHASE SPACE POLARIZATION AND THE TOPOLOGICAL STRING: A CASE STUDY

A. Kashani-Poor

We review and elaborate on our discussion in hep-th/0606112 on the interplay between the target space and the worldsheet description of the open topological string partition function, for the example of the conifold. We discuss the appropriate phase space and canonical form for the system. We find a map between choices of polarization and the worldsheet description, based on which we study the behavior of the partition function under canonical transformations.

Conformal invariance and finiteness theorems for non-planar beta-deformed N=4 SYM theory

F. Elmetti, A. Mauri, M. Pirrone

We study the conformal invariance of non-planar beta-deformed N=4 SYM theory using the coupling constant reduction (CCR) formalism. We show that up to order g^10, differently from the planar case, we can remove the scheme dependence in the definition of the theory without reducing to the real beta case. We also compute the gauge beta function up to four loops and see that the generalized finiteness theorems proposed in [hep-th: 0705.1483] still hold.

Comment on Shadow and Non-Shadow Extensions of the Standard Model

H. Nishino, S. Rajpoot

The models in the two papers hep-ph/0608068 and hep-ph/0701254 by Chang et al. with the so-called shadow gauge and scalar fields are nothing but convenient tailored versions of our model in hep-th/0403039. The same remarks applies to the work in hep-th/0612165 by Meissner and Nicolai.

Singleton strings

J. Engquist, P. Sundell, L. Tamassia

In this note, we briefly introduce singleton representations and discuss their relevance to the study of string and brane configurations in AdS space, their tensionless limit and the connection with higher-spin gauge theory. We then discuss the main properties of subcritical SO ( D − 1 , 2) WZW models featuring singletons and their composites as primary fields. After a suitable gauging, these models are good candidates for a fundamental, partonic description of tensionless branes in AdS. Their massless sector provides an affine Lie-algebraic setting for the study of higher-spin symmetries. Based on hep-th/0508124, hep-th/0701051 and work in progress.

On the Superstring Realization of the Yang Monopole

A. Belhaj, P. Diaz, A. Seguí

Based on the result of string/string duality, we construct the six dimensional Yang monopole in terms of Type IIA wrapped D-branes. In particular, we show that all the information of such a magnetic solution can be encoded in the K3 surface compactification in the presence of D2 and D4-branes wrapping its non trivial cycles. We give a geometrical and physical interpretations for the {+1,-1} Yang monopole charges. Lifting to eleven dimensions, we relate this Type IIA configuration with the heterotic M-theory one, given in hep-th/0607193. The nature of the black Yang monopole is also discussed.

SUSY Quantum Hall Effect on Non-Anti-Commutative Geometry

K. Hasebe

We review the recent developments of the SUSY quantum Hall effect (hep-th/0409230, hep-th/0411137, hep-th/0503162, hep-th/0606007, arXiv:0705.4527). We introduce a SUSY formulation of the quantum Hall effect on supermanifolds. On each of supersphere and superplane, we investigate SUSY Landau problem and explicitly con- struct SUSY extensions of Laughlin wavefunction and topological excitations. The non-anti- commutative geometry naturally emerges in the lowest Landau level and brings particular physics to the SUSY quantum Hall effect. It is shown that SUSY provides a unified picture of the original Laughlin and Moore-Read states. Based on the charge-flux duality, we also develop a Chern-Simons effective field theory for the SUSY quantum Hall effect.

Tachyon condensation and ‘bounce’ in the D1–D5 system

O. Lunin, S. Mathur, I. Park et al.

Abstract We construct supergravity solutions dual to microstates of the D1–D3–D5 system with nonzero B field moduli. Just like the D1–D5 solutions in [ hep-th/0109154 ] these solutions are generically nonsingular everywhere, with the ‘throat’ closing smoothly near r=0. We write expressions relating the asymptotic supergravity fields to the integral brane charges. We study the infall of a D1 brane down the throat of the geometries. This test brane ‘bounces’ off the smooth end for generic initial conditions. The details of the bounce depend on both the choice of D1–D3–D5 microstate and the direction of approach of the infalling D1 brane. In the dual field theory description we see that the tachyon mode starts to condense, but the tachyon bounces back up the potential hill without reaching the deepest point of the potential.

Statistics of anyon gas and the factorizable property of thermodynamic quantities.

Huang

The statistical distribution function of anyon is used to find the eighth viral coefficient in the high-temperature limit and the equation of state in the low-temperature limit. The perturbative results indicate that the thermodynamic quantities, $Q(\alpha)$, of the free anyon gas may be factorized in the terms characteristic of the ideal Bose ($\alpha =0$) and fermion ($\alpha =1$) gases, i.e., $Q(\alpha) = \alpha Q(1) + (1-\alpha) Q(0)$. It is shown that the factorizable property of the thermodynamic quantities, to all orders, can be established from the property of the equivalence between the anyon statistics and statistics in a system with boson-fermion transmutation, which was found by us in a recent paper (hep-th/0308095; Phys. Rev. E 51 (1995) 3729)

D-branes and phases on string worldsheet

T. Okuda, H. Ooguri

We generalize the worldsheet derivation of the topological open/closed string duality given in hep-th/0205297 to cases when there are different types of D-branes on the open string side. We use the mirror Landau-Ginzburg description to clarify the correspondence between D-branes on the open string side and C phases on the closed string side. We also discuss the duality from the point of view of the B-model.

Noncommutative Algebraic Equations and the Noncommutative Eigenvalue Problem

A. Schwarz

We analyze the perturbation series for the noncommutative eigenvalue problem AX=X λ, where λ is an element of a noncommutative ring, A is a matrix, and X is a column vector with entries from this ring. As a corollary, we obtain a theorem about the structure of perturbation series for Tr xr where x is a solution of a noncommutative algebraic equation (for r=1 this theorem was proved by Aschieri, Brace, Morariu, and Zumino (hep-th/0003228), and used to study the Born–Infeld Lagrangian for the gauge group U(1)k).

The Advantage of a Multi-User Mode

D. Juriev

The purpose of this very short note, which maybe considered as a comment on "hep-th/9401067", is to prove the following proposition. PROPOSITION. There exist certain models of Mobilevision, in which interpretational figures are observable only in a multi--user mode in contrast to single--user ones. This result maybe interesting as for applications as for the understanding of theoretical foundations of quantum interactive processes (hep-th/9403015).
