La epidemia de peste de mitad del siglo VI, conocida como “la peste de Justiniano”, causó una gran crisis de salud en el Imperio Bizantino. Sin embargo, las fuentes muestran que los aliados árabes de Justiniano, la tribu gasánida, no sufrió la epidemia de la misma forma. Mientras la peste diezmaba a la población e incluso al ejército imperial, el basileus gasánida al-Harit y sus tropas aumentaron su protagonismo en la guerra frente al Imperio Sasánida. Además, al-Harit aprovechó su posición de prestigio para interceder ante la corte a favor de los cristianos monofisitas. Ambos hechos sirvieron para asentar su liderazgo militar y religioso entre la población sarracena. En el aspecto político, al-Harit consiguió ser nombrado archifilarca y patricio por Justiniano, y aseguró los mismos privilegios para su hijo al-Mundir como su sucesor.

Celem studium jest ukazanie patrystycznych podstaw personalistyczno-znakowej koncepcji cudu ks. profesora Mariana Ruseckiego (1942-2012), najwybitniejszego znawcy tej problematyki w Polsce na przełomie XX i XXI wieku. Teolog z Lublina budowanie holistycznej teologii cudu rozpoczął od wnikliwej analizy źródeł biblijnych oraz patrystycznych. W artykule przedstawiono syntezę trzech głównych kwestie patrystycznych podejmowanych przez Ruseckiego, a mianowicie: funkcji cudu w apologii wczesnego Kościoła, koncepcji cudu św. Augustyna oraz pedagogicznych funkcji cudu wskazanych przez św. Grzegorza I Wielkiego. Natomiast w ostatnim punkcje zaprezentowano główne elementy personalistyczno-znakowej koncepcji cudu profesora z Lublina: personalistyczne rozumienie cudu, znakowe jego ujmowanie oraz wyeksponowanie obok funkcji motywacyjnej, także funkcji objawieniowej, chrystologicznej, zbawczej, eklezjotwórczej i pisteologicznej. Przeprowadzone badania pozwalają stwierdzić, że Rusecki profesjonalnie rozwija oraz pogłębia teologiczną refleksję nad problematyką cudu, którą na bazie biblijnej zapoczątkowali pisarze pierwszych wieków chrześcijaństwa. Ze szczególną estymą korzysta on z twórczości św. Augustyna.

Tsar Peter was a ruler who was active in the sphere of church policy, and is pictured to have been a deep believer himself. He is credited with the fact of granting the title of patriarch to the Bulgarian archbishop, which most probably occurred under the framework of the agreement of 927 (?933/934). The act sym­bolically completed the process of acquiring full maturity and independence by the Church of Bulgaria. Peter, as the first Bulgarian ruler, had to face a serious problem of heresy. Be­ing fully aware of responsibility for orthodoxy of his subjects’ creed, he was de­termined enough to take precautions in order to stifle the development of the Bo­gomil heresy. However, his actual actions (except for his consulting the patriarch) and their results are impossible to pinpoint. On the other hand, it should be stressed that, during the rule of tsar Peter, the Bulgarian monasticism lived through a period of considerable development. The tsar contributed to that progress, though, unfortunately, details of the phenomenon are impossible to determine. Peter himself became a monk before his death, and subsequently his personal worship evolved around his involvement in the monas­tic movement.

Discussion related to the potential for mystical union with God was largely absent from the writings of the Church Fathers prior to the late-second century. Toward the end of that century, however, the concept of communion with God emerged as a topic of interest in both early Christian and Gnostic literature. St. Irenaeus of Lyons was among the earliest Christian writers to critically reflect on the subject. He argued that participation with the divine was possible only in the “orthodox” churches and required three key elements: a life lived in connection to the Spirit of God, in community with the true people of God, while bearing evidence of godly piety and virtue. Whereas Gnostic conceptions of communion frequently included an emphasis on the reception of an exclusive, secret gnosis, Irenaeus’ paradigm offered a public, progressive path of ascent to God.

Artykuł omawia problem rozróżnienia ontologicznego między Boską transcendencją oraz immanencją w myśli teologicznej Bazylego Wielkiego, Ojca Kościoła IV w. Autor przedstawia podstawowy aparat pojęciowy oraz terminologiczny stosowany przez Atanazego w jego antynomicznym podejściu do „pogodzenia” między apofatycznym i katafatycznym obrazem Boga. Analizuje on właściwości kluczowe tych dwóch wymiarów natury Boga. Szczególna uwaga została poświęcona analizie sunergicznego podejścia do odpowiedzi na pytanie: w jaki sposób Bóg, całkowicie oddalony w aspekcie ontologicznym od rzeczywistości stworzonej, może jednocześnie być aktywnie obecny w świecie i napełniać go? W tym kontekście autor analizuje pojęcia kluczowe, które wyrażają „wewnątrzboskie” oddalenie oraz aktywną bliskość Boga w odniesieniu do bytu stworzonego.

The foundation of the christian truth about the resurrection is the paschal event, ie the death and resurrection of Christ. However, the interpretation of this dogma is essentially linked to an anthropological vision, therefore the exegesis of biblical protology has a particular significance. At the start of the IVth century, Methodius of Olympus undertook an interesting trial to clarify the status of the first man. Namely, departing from the traditional concept of medietas, which placed Adam in an indeterminate balance between immortality and death, he favoured the idea, which can be called “principaliter (essential or original) immortality”. Thanks to this modification, the author of De resurrectione, gained an important point in resurrectional polemics. He thus presented death, not as an equivalent possibility linked with the original choice of man, but a consequence of his sin, certainly dra­matic, but secondary to God’s original plan. In this perspective, the resurrection of the body, and restoring it to immortality, appeared worthy and necessary, being the eschatic realisation of the Creator’s design, his who cannot err.

Francisco Fernández de Cordova, de cuya personalidad y obra escribí hace algún tiempo, publicó en Lyon en 1615 una obra miscelánea, Didascalia multiplex, que comprende 50 capítulos, en los que, adornado de una muy notable erudición y sin faltar el juicio crítico, la mayoría de las veces acertado, por parte del autor, se abordan una serie de cuestiones, muchas de ellas curiosas y, al parecer, de actualidad en la época. La intranscendencia o extrañe/a de algunas lleva a su autor a justificar la dedicación de su esfuerzo a temas tales, apoyándose en que "sobre ello se discute, se duda, otros han escrito, e t c . " . De todos modos la seriedad en el trabajo y el alarde de erudición es justificación más que suficiente, y valga como dato el que Broukhusius (Jan van Broekhuyzen), comentarista de Tibulo, remite en una ocasión a Fernández de Cordova. (...) afirmando que en él se puede encontrar todo lo dicho acerca de la cuestión tratada'-'.
