Francesco Spampinato

This essay offers a comparison between contemporary art from South Korea and art from Western countries, through the solo exhibitions of three South Korean artists of different generations who address media and technological issues in their work: Nam June Paik, Lee Bul and Anicka Yi. The exhibitions surveyed, which sealed the importance of these artists on a global scale, are the following: Paik's Exposition of Music - Electronic Television at Galerie Parnass in Wuppertal, Germany, 1963; Bul's The Monsters Show at Le Consortium in Dijon, France, 2002; and Yi's Life Is Cheap at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, United States, 2017. Through the gaze of these South Korean artists, it is possible to better understand the parameters of technological thinking in the West in distinct eras: the information age, in this case the 1960s, the post-human and cyberpunk culture of the 1990s, and the more recent post-Internet turn of the 2010s. The three exhibitions highlight a range of relationships, resemblances, reciprocities and repercussions between Europe and the United States on the one hand and East Asia on the other, but also peculiarities and differences that denote different conceptions and degrees of impact of digital media and technologies in their respective countries. What emerges, indeed, is the need to move beyond the traditional limits of colonialist-minded forms of techno-orientalism in favor of new avenues of interpretation of a peculiar Eastern technological thought, such as, for example, the concept of “Cosmotechnics” recently elaborated by Yuk Hui.

Krajobraz miasta w narracji filmów dokumentalnych o Lublinie

Natasza Ziółkowska-Kurczuk

The article is an attempt at a critical original analysis of documentary films in relation to the documentary and narrative function of the landscape. The author treats the film space as a ‘world picture’ as understood by Martin Heidegger, and in this context, she presents her own model of seeing and understanding the world present in her own documentary work. The landscape here is saturated with meanings, especially emptiness, lack and post-memory, which speaks the most in a metaphorical way about the non-existent world. The author also refers to Walter Benjamin’s concept of the city as a book, and reads the history of multicultural Lublin, a kind of ghost town, form this perspective. The article is therefore an original attempt to discover the mental layer of the film, which is usually beyond the reach of its recipient.

Representations of skew braces

Nishant Rathee, Ayush Udeep

In this paper, we explore linear representations of skew left braces, which are known to provide bijective non-degenerate set-theoretical solutions to the Yang--Baxter equation that are not necessarily involutive. A skew left brace $(A, \cdot, \circ)$ induces an action $λ^{\op}: (A, \circ) \to \Aut (A, \cdot)$, which gives rise to the group $Λ_{A^{\op}} = (A, \cdot) \rtimes_{λ^{\op}} (A, \circ)$. We prove that if $A$ and $B$ are isoclinic skew left braces, then $Λ_{A^{\op}}$ and $Λ_{B^{\op}}$ are also isoclinic under some mild restrictions on the centers of the respective groups. Our key observation is that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the set of equivalence classes of irreducible representations of $(A, \cdot, \circ)$ and that of the group $Λ_{A^{\op}}$. We obtain a decomposition of the induced representation of the additive group $(A, \cdot)$ and of the multiplicative group $(A, \circ)$ corresponding to the regular representation of the group $Λ_{A^{\op}}$. As examples, we compute the dimensions of the irreducible representations for several skew left braces with prime power orders.

Performance Writing: On, Around and Off the Page

Branislav Jakovljević

While the emergence of new forms of performance writing in the 1960s and 1970s did not eliminate traditional forms of drama, they radically transformed the role of textuality in the theatre. This article argues that when liberated from the rules of dramatic writing and even syntax and grammar, performance writing brings an illocationary logic into textual production. The article concludes with a preliminary consideration of differences between experimental writing strategies and the latest text-generating AI.

Correntes do Conhecimento

Ana Flecha

Representations of the super-Yangian of type $B(n,m)$

Alexander Molev, Eric Ragoucy

We are concerned with finite-dimensional irreducible representations of the Yangians associated with the orthosymplectic Lie superalgebras ${\frak osp}_{2n+1|2m}$. Every such representation is highest weight and we use embedding theorems and odd reflections of Yangian type to derive necessary conditions for an irreducible highest weight representation to be finite-dimensional. We conjecture that these conditions are also sufficient. We prove the conjecture in the case $n=1$ and arbitrary $m\geqslant 1$.

Representation zeta functions of groups of type $A_2$ in positive characteristic

Uri Onn, Amritanshu Prasad, Pooja Singla

We prove two conjectures regarding the representation growth of groups of type $A_2$. The first, conjectured by Avni, Klopsch, Onn and Voll, regards the uniformity of representation zeta functions over local complete discrete valuation rings. The second is the Larsen--Lubotzky conjecture on the representation growth of irreducible lattices in groups of type $A_2$ in positive characteristic assuming Serre's conjecture on the congruence subgroup problem.

O Lado B da História:

Carlos Gontijo Rosa

Representation dimensions linked by Frobenius bimodules with applications to group algebras

Changchang Xi

We establish relations between representation dimensions of two algebras connected by a Frobenius bimodule or extension. Consequently, upper bounds and equality formulas for representation dimensions of group algebras, symmetric separably equivalent algebras and crossed products are obtained. Particularly, for any subgroup H of a finite group G, if [G:H] is invertible in a field, then the representation dimensions of the group algebras of G and H over the field are the same.

Resolutions of locally analytic principal series representations of $GL_2$

Aranya Lahiri

For a finite field extension $F/\mathbb{Q}_p$ we associate a coefficient system attached on the Bruhat-Tits tree of $G:= {\rm GL}_2(F)$ to a locally analytic representation $V$ of $G$. This is done in analogy to the work of Schneider and Stuhler for smooth representations. This coefficient system furnishes a chain-complex which is shown, in the case of locally analytic principal series representations $V$, to be a resolution of $V$.

Odkluczanie i Kobietostan – kolektywny charakter pracy teatralnej osób pozbawionych wolności

Agnieszka Bresler

Agnieszka Blesler, who has been running therapeutic projects in prisons: Unlocking and Womenstate, presents a method used in theatre practice in Polish prisons, both male (Wrocław) and female (Krzywaniec). It involves a combination of and necessary complementarity between individual and group effects. Describing the stages of the work suggested to the theatre groups in prisons, Bresler points out those moments in the creative process that were associated with crisis situations and required a collective search for solutions. In many situations, it eventually turned out that difficult moments, adverse circumstances and some difficulties (not stopping the work though) strengthened the groups and helped them to achieve another level in artistic work. The paradox is that the limiting factors stimulated not only individual creators, but also the relationships between them. According to the author, the theatre created in prison acts as a bridge, owing to which the person who is serving a prison sentence can be seen in a different light and can actually return to society after leaving prison. Within the practice the author has described theatre is primarily an effective instrument for individual transformation. It also enables the reconstruction of positive interpersonal relationships. Theatre can alter the attitude of society towards prison inmates and those leaving prisons. The author emphasizes the hugely positive meaning of the presentation of productions created in prisons outside of them, at large, and outside the context of prison art.

Glider Representation Rings with a view on distinguishing groups

Frederik Caenepeel, Geoffrey Janssens

Let $G$ be a finite group. In the first part of the paper we develop further the foundations of the youngly introduced glider representation theory. Glider representations encompass filtered modules over filtered rings and as such carry much information of $G$. Therefore the main focus is on the glider representation ring $R_d(\widetilde{G})$, which is shown to be realisable as a concrete subring of the split Grothendieck ring of the monoidal category $\text{glid}_d(G)$ of (Noetherian) glider $\mathbb{C}$-representations of (length $d$) of $G$. In the second part we investigate a Wedderburn-Malcev type decomposition of the (infinite-dimensional) $\mathbb{Q}$-algebra $\mathbb{Q}(\widetilde{G}) := \mathbb{Q} \otimes_{\mathbb{Z}}R_1(\widetilde{G})$. The main theorem obtains a $\mathbb{Q}[G^{ab}]$-module decomposition of $\mathbb{Q}(\widetilde{G})$ relating it in a precise way to $\mathbb{C}$-representation theory of subnormal subgroups in $G$. Under certain vanishing assumptions, which are proven to hold for nilpotent groups (of class $2$), the second main theorem completely describes a $\mathbb{Q}[G^{ab}]$-algebra decomposition. We end with pointing out applications on distinguishing isocategorical groups.

$p$-adic Banach space representations of $SL_2({\mathbb Q}_p)$

Dubravka Ban, Matthias Strauch

We consider the restriction to $SL_2({\mathbb Q}_p)$ of an irreducible $p$-adic unitary Banach space representation $Π$ of $GL_2({\mathbb Q}_p)$. If $Π$ is associated, via the $p$-adic local Langlands correspondence, to an absolutely irreducible 2-dimensional Galois representation $ψ$, then the restriction of $Π$ decomposes as a direct sum of $r \le 2$ irreducible representations. The main result of this paper is that $r$ is equal to the cardinality $s$ of the centralizer in $PGL_2$ of the projective Galois representation $\overlineψ$ associated to $ψ$, and the restriction is multiplicity-free, except if $ψ$ is triply-imprimitive, in which case the restriction of $Π$ is a direct sum of two equivalent representations. From this result we derive a classification of absolutely irreducible $p$-adic unitary Banach space representations of $SL_2({\mathbb Q}_p)$.

Problemi di drammaturgia della danza

Alessandro Pontremoli

In dance, we are beginning to talk about dramaturgy from the end of the Nineties of the Twentieth Century, when Pina Bausch began to regularly make use of the collaboration of the dramaturg Raimund Hoghe. Unlike the theatrical tradition, within which the dramaturg has a role of mediator between stage and audience in the form of literary adviser of the director, the dramaturgy of dance inaugurates new processes closer to the post-dramatic theater and performance and influenced by postmodern dance studies. First, the essay investigates the effects and the feelings caused by the interaction between all the material involved in the composition of a danced performance and perceptive and cognitive ability of the spectators; secondly the essay explores the power relations that are established among the different actors of dance production (dancers, choreographers, curators, dramaturgs).
