L’intermédialité dans les magazines de bande dessinée adultes du milieu des années 1980 au milieu des années 1990

Aurélie Huz

From the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s in France, the media landscape of comics underwent significant transformations: the shift from periodicals to books, increased competition from audiovisual media (television, multimedia), and the aestheticization of consumption practices were all intermedial reconfigurations that comics magazines represented, questioned, and helped bring about in an implicit or explicit manner. By examining these magazines as comprehensive enunciative systems shaping specific discursive strategies, this article focuses on the cases of Métal Hurlant, Pilote & Charlie, and (À suivre). It demonstrates how intermediality is addressed as an object of analysis, a strategic issue in the creation of both commercial and symbolic value, and a cornerstone in the construction of the magazine’s editorial identity.

The Image of Germany on the Pages of the Newspaper “Russian Invalid” in the First Years of the World War I (1914-1915)

Vasiliy V. Frolov

The article analyzes the image of Germany, which was formed by the journalists of the domestic daily newspaper “Russian invalid” in 1914–1915, when the Russian Empire was in active military confrontation with the states of the Triple (later Quadruple) Alliance in the European Theater of Operations, and Germany was its main and most dangerous enemy on the Eastern Front. Correspondents of the “Russian Invalid”, the official printed organ of the Russian Military Ministry, in the first years of the First World War (1914–1915) on the pages of their newspaper paid special attention to the Hohenzollern Empire, its army, socio-economic and political development, direct participation German armed forces in the fighting of the Great War. The main part of the information about Germany by the authors of the publication we studied was placed in the headings “From Foreign Life”, “Public Life”, “Naval Department”, “Military Chronicle”, “Telegram” and “Articles”. At the end of the study, it was concluded that the German Empire on the pages of “Russian Invalid” appeared as the economic and military-political locomotive of the Triple (later Quadruple) Alliance, which made enormous efforts to implement the redistribution of spheres of influence in the then world and potential redistribution in its own benefit of colonial possessions.

General Educational Institutions of Tyumen in 1945–1953

Elena Borodulina, Artyom Skochin

Introduction. The aim of the work is to determine the significance of the transformation of the educational process in general educational institutions of Tyumen in the post-war period. In the context of the study, the authors study the expansion of the network and the technical condition of general educational institutions, note changes in the staffing of schools, reveal various aspects of the methodological training of teachers, as well as the process of transforming the educational programs of educational institutions. Methods and materials. The basis of the research work was made up of previously unpublished archival records and statistical materials, regulations that were published as part of collections of documents during the period under study, as well as information from periodicals of the post-war years. In addition, over the past decade, a significant number of regional studies have appeared in historiography concerning the problem of school education in the period under study. Analysis. Soviet education in 1945–1953 was experiencing a serious crisis. School buildings in need of repair, lack of a sufficient number of classrooms and teaching staff, difficult financial and living conditions of general education institutions, difficulties in implementing the law on universal education, increasing requirements for the general education training of students and the teaching activities of teachers – these are not all the problems that Soviet education faced in the post-war period. Results. The researchers come to the conclusion that the post-war years became an important time for the transformation of the educational process in the schools of Tyumen, causing its transition to peacetime. During the study period, the network of educational institutions in the city was expanding, and the number of students was also growing. At the same time, a number of problems remained unresolved, which concerned the low technical condition of educational institutions and multi-shift classes. In the mid-1940s and early 1950s, in the schools of the city, there was an increase in the number, experience, and level of education of teaching staff. Author’s contribution. The search, systematization, and analysis of archival documents, regulations, periodicals, as well as research literature on the topic of research work, followed by composing the main part of the article, was carried out by Candidate of Sciences (History), Associate Professor of the Department of History of Tyumen State University, E.V. Borodulina. Posing general conclusions and checking references was carried out by A.V. Skochin. Funding. The study was carried out with the financial support of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research within the framework of the scientific project No. 20-49-720018.

Periodicity and pure periodicity in alternate base systems

Zuzana Masáková, Edita Pelantová

We study the Cantor real base numeration system which is a common generalization of two positional systems, namely the Cantor system with a sequence of integer bases and the Rényi system with one real base. We focus on the so-called alternate base $B$ given by a purely periodic sequence of real numbers greater than 1. We answer an open question of Charlier et al. on the set of numbers with eventually periodic $B$-expansions. We also investigate for which bases all sufficiently small rationals have a purely periodic $B$-expansion.

BANDITRY AND GENDER-BASED VOLIENCE IN NORTH-WEST NIGERIA

Simon Nankap KUMS, Cornelius Ishaya KWEDE

The menace of banditry over the years had had a devastating effects on both developed and developing countries of the world alike. This emerging security challenge has threatened the very fabric of the fragile peace the Nigerian State was enjoying; especially, in the Northwest states of Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, etc. However, the paper examines the impact of banditry activities on women and children who are mostly victims. This study uses a qualitative methodology that relies on secondary data sources. Books, periodicals, newspapers, online information, and reports were frequently used. The paper posits that the presence of high level of unemployment with the attendant poverty, weak security system, grossly ungoverned spaces, porosity of Nigeria’s borders, and arms proliferations, among many, are the driving factors quickening banditry in the Northwest region of Nigeria. It further contends that the banditry activities pervading the Northwest Nigeria has undermined human security; peace and development of the region and that the efforts made by stakeholders to combat the scourge have not yielded the desired result. The paper hence recommends, among others, that  the Nigerian government should come up with working poverty alleviation programme(s) and should be directed towards addressing the high incidence of poverty among women and children who are a vulnerable segment of the population mostly attacked and trapped by banditry activities vis-à-vis empowerment programmes or employment opportunities, targeting youths who are primarily involved in abductions and kidnappings out of economic frustration, such as unemployment; and also establish a special force and intelligence unit that will be trained and equipped to fight against human trafficking, banditry, kidnapping and terrorism, as this will help in curtailing if not eliminating criminal activities in our society.

During the Anti-Japanese war period, Comparison of the newspaper distribution of the Communist Party of China between in the Shanxi-Gansu-Ningxia border area and the Kuomintang area

Du Yifan

The “Lugou bridge Incident” broke out on July 7, 1937. In order to save the country from subjugation, the Kuomintang and the Communist Party carried out the second cooperation. This cooperation is non party cooperation, and there are great differences in political, military and ruling regions. In response to these differences, the Communist Party of China adopted different newspaper distribution models and public opinion management modes. Based on the historical and environmental background of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, this paper collects the distributing data of Party newspapers and establishes the publishing database of Party newspapers of the Communist Party of China during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. With the help of big data analysis technology, from six aspects of distributing policy, distributing management, distributing subject, distributing object, distributing target and distributing network, this paper studies the distributing mode and its differences of Party newspapers and periodicals in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia border area and the areas ruled by the Kuomintang during that period. Thus enriching the study of Party newspapers and periodicals in this period.
