Cognitive difference text classification in online knowledge collaboration based on SA-BiLSTM hybrid model

Fengjun Liu, Na Zhao, Guoqing Zhu

Abstract In the process of online knowledge collaboration, complex cognitive-difference texts are continually generated through collaborative editing processes. Effectively identifying and classifying these cognitive difference texts enables contributors to stay updated on the current status of knowledge editing, thereby enhancing group collaboration efficiency. However, accurate extraction of semantic features and contextual patterns from such texts remains challenging in multi-dimensional discourse contexts. To address this limitation, we developed a classification system based on the mapping relationship between conceptual relationships and cognitive differences. Based on this framework, we proposed a hybrid SA-BiLSTM architecture that integrates self-attention mechanisms with bidirectional long short-term memory networks for fine-grained cognitive difference text categorization. This study evaluated the SA-BiLSTM model through systematic experimentation with the Baidu Encyclopedia dataset, focusing on three aspects: architectural ablation studies comparing variant structures, comparative analyses with mainstream baseline models (FastText, TextCNN, RNN, BERT, and RoBERTa), and evaluations of the model’s generalization and robustness. Experimental results indicate that the proposed model achieves superior classification accuracy compared to conventional approaches, demonstrates effective mitigation of semantic ambiguity, and exhibits enhanced domain adaptation capabilities. The findings highlight the framework’s technical advantages in integrating attention mechanisms with sequential modeling, providing a viable solution for cognitive difference analysis in large-scale knowledge collaboration platforms.

El séquito del fénix o «la generosa cetrería»: relieves de la imitatio en el conde de Villamediana

Jesús Ponce Cárdenas

This article analyzes a difficult passage from the Fable of the Phoenix by the Count of Villamediana and underlines the imitation of a Gongorian model: the “discourse of falconry” included by the Andalousian poet in the Second Solitude. The analysis of the imitative practices of don Juan de Tassis y Peralta also makes possible to highlight the numerous inaccuracies and errors accumulated in modern editions of the epyllion.

“Bad Students” and the Configuration of School Failure through Their Social Representations

Ángela María Velasco Beltrán, Rocío del Pilar Velasco Beltrán

Social representations can influence, to a great extent, the way in which we relate to people in different situations. In the educational environment, these representations—in terms of their adaptation or not to the school’s academic and behavioural demands—can lead to the school failure of those considered as “bad students”. Following an assessment, interviews and discussion groups were conducted with various members of an educational institution in the south of Bogotá to describe the social representations that prevail in this community about students who were at possible risk of school failure and how these representations could determine whether or not the student does indeed fail. Discourse analysis results yielded categories such as the differential construction between a “good student” and a “bad student” as well as stigmatization and conflicts with the school hierarchy and also showed how, occasionally, student failure is considered a consequence of family or social and economic factors unrelated to the school itself and to pedagogy. In conclusion, it is evident that there is an urgent need to establish institutional mechanisms that promote and adopt inclusion in educational relationships and practices from the perspective of the needs and interests of the most vulnerable pupils.

An outbreak of appreciation: A discursive analysis of tweets of gratitude expressed to the National Health Service at the outset of the COVID‐19 pandemic

Giskin Day, Glenn Robert, Kathleen Leedham‐Green et al.

Abstract Background The early stages of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic prompted unprecedented displays of gratitude to healthcare workers. In the United Kingdom, gratitude was a hotly debated topic in public discourse, catalysing compelling displays of civic togetherness but also attracting criticism for being an unhelpful distraction that authorized unrealistic expectations of healthcare workers. Expressions of thanks tend to be neglected as drivers of transformation, and yet, they are important indicators of qualities to which people attach significance. Objective This study aimed to use discursive analysis to explore how the National Health Service (NHS) was constructed in attention‐attracting tweets that expressed and/or discussed gratitude to the NHS. Methods Having determined that Twitter was the most active site for traffic relating to gratitude and the NHS, we established a corpus of 834 most‐liked tweets, purposively sampled from Twitter searches on a day‐by‐day basis over the period of the first lockdown in the United Kingdom (22 March–28 May 2020). We developed a typology for tweets engaging with gratitude as well as analysing what the NHS was thanked for. Results Our analysis, informed by a discursive psychology approach, found that the meanings attributed to gratitude were highly mobile and there were distinct patterns of activity. The NHS was predominantly—and sometimes idealistically—thanked for working, effort, saving and caring. Displays of gratitude were seen as incommensurable with failures of responsibility. The clap‐for‐carers campaign was a potent driver of affect, especially in the early parts of the lockdown. Conclusions The social value of gratitude is implicated in the re‐evaluation of the risks and rewards of healthcare and social care work in the wake of the pandemic. We caution against cynicism about gratitude overshadowing the well‐being effects that expressing and receiving gratitude can engender, particularly given concerns over the detrimental effects of the pandemic on mental health. Public Contribution This study involves the analysis of data provided by the public and published on social media.

A Study of the Areas of Origin and Destination of the Metaphors of Surrealist novels from a Cognitive Linguistic Perspective Based on Koveces's Theories

Zahra Eslampanah, Leila Erfanian, Mahmoud Ramezanzadeh

The purpose of this study is to examine the metaphors of surrealist-style novels from the perspective of cognitive linguistics. In which of the following are the most common areas of origin and destination of surreal metaphors? And what are the metaphors of surreal works in terms of objectivity and origin? The novels selected in this study were surreal novels from different authors around the world. In this study, one hundred pages of these 6 novels were studied. The metaphors were extracted and analyzed in the context and then the origin and destination of these metaphors were identified based on the origin and destination areas of Koveces's theory, and finally, Objective and abstract areas of origin and destination were identified. The results show that the surreal metaphors are more intangible and the source and destination domains are both more objective, although abstract domains are also present and most abundant in the human and machine origin domain. In the field of destination, it is about man and nature, and we continue to understand the importance of the human subject in this style of work.

Politeness maxims in Saad Al-Hariri’s and François Hollande’s speeches on refugees

M. N. Abdulsada, B. Y. Yaqoub

We consider the politeness maxims implied in the discussion on refugees between Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Al-Hariri and French President Francois Hollande. Based on the approach of the six-maxims of politeness by G. Leach (1983), the study is aimed at recognizing these maxims, describing their forms and revealing the intended goals. Mutual understanding is considered as a key element of the pragmatic analysis of the selected two speeches. A thorough study of words, phrases and sentences was carried out in order to sort and highlight all forms of mutual understanding. We make a brief comparison of the two speeches in terms of mutual understanding and politeness. Firstly, the study presents the preliminary stages of studying the definition of key terms, examines politeness in detail, builds on Leach's theory of politeness, and reviews several related studies. Secondly, a sample of two speeches is selected, analyzed and examined for politeness. It is concluded that the two speeches studied are very sympathetic towards refugees and that the corresponding references contain several forms of courtesy rules. We note the difference between the Arab and European discourse about refugees and their suffering.

Threads of a hashtag

Marilda do Couto Cavalcanti, Ana Cecília Cossi Bizon

The scenario for this paper is the combined sanitary and political crisis that Brazil has been facing in these unprecedented times of the COVID-19 pandemic. The country is ideologically polarized and this polarization has been enhanced in the last year and a half in Bolsonaro’s government. A bleak period characterized by a way of governing that Silva (2020) names “pragmatics of chaos” due to denialism (even of the very pandemic) and to the neoliberal values cherished by a radical right-wing that supports the President and backs the discontinuation of important public policies, mainly those directed towards minoritized groups and environmental protection. Having in mind such a scenario, and amidst the societal bewilderment and inaction regarding the President’s contradictory actions towards democracy, we chose to focus on a rare event of direct resistance featured by a migrant of Haitian origin, who told in the face of the president what maybe many Brazilians had not dared to say. What is of interest here is that this performance, recorded on a mobile phone, and posted as a tweet, went viral, and gave rise to a hashtag - #acaboubolsonaro [ItsOverBolsonaro] - that is still alive seven months later. With a focus on the man’s performance of resistance and its entextualization on social media, we analyze his discourse and the impacts of his positioning. In the analysis, we try to retrace some of the threads traversed by the hashtag in two Twitter accounts and some of the reverberations on Instagram. We also discuss how the discursive thread of the postings weaves a metareflexive fabric about the man’s performance. We see this meta-reflection as an acknowledgment of another praxis that we have called 'pragmatics of resistance'

Acclaims, attacks, defenses: Critical discourse analysis of Ma Ying-jeou’s 2012 Taiwan presidential debates discourse

Maria Cheng

Taiwan, under both domestic socio-political pressures and exogenous diplomatic shocks, underwent a democratization process since the 80s in the last century. Presidential debates became a part of the election benefiting from Taiwan’s media liberalization, and are closely related to the Taiwan’s democratization process. Ma Ying-jeou’s landslide victory in the 2008 Taiwan Presidential Election marked Taiwan’s second democratic transfer of power (with the first one taking place in 2000) and started a new era in cross-strait relations. Due to the Kuomintang (KMT) government’s performance falling short of the people’s expectations during Ma’s governance, however, Ma encountered a neck-and-neck challenge in his second term presidential election. This article adopts a Critical Discourse Analysis perspective to investigate Ma Ying-jeou’s deliberate manipulation of linguistic strategies including selective modality choices to formulate his acclaims, attacks and defenses in the 2012 Taiwan televised presidential debates. This analysis reveals his employment of negative and positive linguistic choices in addressing his opponents’ arguments and casting doubt on his key opponent as well as depicting his leadership and character traits and conveying his high degree of commitment to gain the support of the electorate to offer him an opportunity to continue his stewardship of the country. It examines also how us-you, in addition to us-them polarization, was used as a discursive tool of attack during the debates; and identifies the impact of his discourse on the election outcome in 2012. The investigation of Ma’s engagement in televised presidential debates thus offers a snapshot into Taiwan’s democratization process.

La ambivalencia de los vínculos en el consumo: un análisis sociológico del caso Harley-Davidson (The ambivalence of bonds in consumption: a sociological analysis of the Harley-Davidson case)

| The article we propose the analysis of the meaning of the relations developed in Harley-Davidson consumption. From the empirical evidence, the theses about the bonds in brands consume as new forms of social bond are discussed. We present the results of a qualitative research carried out with focus groups and semi structured interviews. The results reveal that the relations in Harley's consumption maintain a diverse structure, related to cultural, identity and emotional aspects, as well as mediated by the social positions of the consumers. However, in addition to being part of a logic of community reconstruction and solidarity, they seem to deepen the processes of fragmentation and particularism of social life in the sphere of consumption.

Manifestes en performance : de quelques manifestes de poésie expérimentale

Gaëlle Théval

Our study focuses on three manifestos, produced between 1961 and 1978 by three central figures in the field, Pierre Garnier, Bernard Heidsieck and Julien Blaine, which appear as milestones for mapping the field and history of experimental poetry in France. We are interested to the critical and programmatic contents as much as to the modes of action of these manifestos: indeed, the manifesto can not be reduced to a literary genre but is “a gesture, an act” “primarily a pragmatics of discourse, a sociological reading, an analysis in terms of intervention strategies in the field of the institution” (Gleize 1980: 12). What about the act of demonstration in experimental poetry and especially in “action poetry”? Our purpose is articulated around three actions: to quit the book, to make a group exist, and to put poetry in action.

Dyskurs podręcznikowy a dyskurs dziecięcy – odmienne postrzeganie rzeczywistości

Aleksandra Szyller

Textbooks have become a source of assistance that settled for good into Polish education landscape, a measure without which many adults cannot imagine the school reality. At the same time, the lack of the comprehensive studies on education packs is noticeable. What is more, the voice of children in Poland is marginalized or completely ignored, as opposed to the Western countries. The perspective of the youngest participants of the education process, who are the direct recipients of the textbook offer and are critical and thoughtful, is very rarely taken into account. Whereas their opinions may be a source of very powerful changes in education. This article presents my own research results. The topic of undertaken study was the analysis of the most popular education packs for classes 1–3. The gathered data was enriched with third-grade students’ opinions about the tasks from the education packs and a description of their experiences related to the usage of those textbooks in school. The study was conducted with a qualitative approach. As the study techniques, a documentary analysis and focus interviews (enriched with textbook tasks designed by children) were used. As resulting from the study, the textbook discourse is not a children’s discourse. Authors of these textbooks tend to forget about the real needs and capabilities of children. Students appeal for taking into account their high potential and putting into the textbooks subjects and tasks fitted to their development level, allowing them to take creative and divergent actions.

Altar gladiators? Discussin the strangeness notion in the religious discourse of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God

Elisane Pinto da Silva Machado de Lima

Nowadays, not rarely has the term “gladiator” been applied in certain discourses, like the religious, the business, the sports, among other ones, which corresponds to a knowledge element coming from another place, as a consequence of history movements and, thus, of senses. In this article, I analyze the occurrence of the term “gladiator” in the religious discourse  of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, or, better yet, the strangeness, according to Ernst-Pereira (2009), caused by the presence of this term in the linearity of a discourse to which, at first, it would not belong. For the analysis, I take as corpus three discourse sequences extracted from a report, published on the Folha Universal of 03/08/2015, concerning the Project “Altar Gladiators”, which consists on preparing young people to propagate the religion. In the theoretical review, I mainly consider the notion of discourse formation, developed by Pêcheux, focusing on the instability of its borders, which results in the discourse heterogeneity.

Perception of the motivational factors for pursuing a career in healthcare

Bárbara Garay Lara , Paulina Sanhueza Muñoz

Objective: To interpret the perception of the motivational factors presented by students who decide to pursue a career in healthcare in the Faculty of Medicine at the Catholic University of the Most Holy Conception, Chile during 2015. Material and Methods: Through a qualitative design and using a phenomenological approach, a semi-structured interview was applied to 55 new students. They were all pursuing a degree in the fields of Medicine, Nursing, Nutrition and Dietetics, Physical Therapy or Medical Technology of the School of Medicine at Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción, Chile, in 2015. The results were subject to triangulation of informants, and were analyzed using the technique of discourse analysis. Results: Vocation for public service, the career field once graduated or the experience of personal /familiar experiences when facing a health condition are perceived as an important part of the motivational factors for pursuing a degree in healthcare. Family, school where they graduated from or friends are not identified as an influence when deciding what professional field to pursue. This situation is not necessarily linked to a specific area of expertise. Conclusions: Altruism and vocation for public service are perceived as the main conditioning factor when deciding to pursue a degree in healthcare.
