The Spatiotemporal Cyclicality of the Circular Narrative of The Good Place
Francesca Medaglia
The paper aims to pay attention to the cyclicity of space and time representation of the afterlife in The Good Place. Here the protagonists are stuck in an infernal loop and every time they discover they are in a particularly elaborate infernal circle, their memory is erased and the narration restart. When the story starts over, the demonic narrative is always slightly different from the previous one. The cyclical nature of the narration at a space-time level would seem to perfect the storytelling: through the alteration of the narrative structure, traditional expectations relating to the afterlife are demolished and a dystopian afterlife is narrated.

Cars in Theatre, Theatre in Cars. A Case Study: Mobile Thriller
Renato Gabrielli
This essay aims to provide insights into the relationship between theatre and the automobile through the lens of Mobility Studies and Performance Studies. While cars are commonly featured in visual media, they are rarely seen in theatre due to the inherent limitations of theatrical space. However, some artists have recently embraced this challenge, offering creative solutions both on stage and on the road in site-specific performances. Mobile Thriller, a monologue set in a car traveling on the Milan ring road, was initially performed in traditional theatre venues in Milan and Glasgow. It was later adapted for a performance inside a real car at the 2004 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This essay discusses the differences between two versions of the play, highlighting how theatrical dramaturgy is always structured around the concept of space.

Stefania Sini, Noemi Albanese

Statistics for Differential Topological Properties between Data Sets with an Application to Reservoir Computers
Louis Pecora, Thomas Carroll
It is common for researchers to record long, multiple time series from experiments or calculations. But sometimes there are no good models for the systems or no applicable mathematical theorems that can tell us when there are basic relationships between subsets of the time series data such as continuity, differentiability, embeddings, etc. The data is often higher dimensional and simple plotting will not guide us. At that point fitting the data to polynomials, Fourier series, etc. becomes uncertain. Even at the simplest level, having data that shows there is a function between the data subsets is useful and a negative answer means that more particular data fitting or analysis will be suspect and probably fail. We show here statistics that test time series subsets for basic mathematical properties and relations between them that not only indicate when more specific analyses are safe to do, but whether the systems are operating correctly. We apply these statistics to examples from reservoir computing where an important property of reservoir computers is that the reservoir system establishes an embedding of the drive system in order to make any other calculations with the reservoir computer successful.

A Mini Review on The Applications of Nanomaterials in Forensic Science
Aaromal Venugopal, Vanshika Seth, Shreya Subhash Naik
et al.
Herein, we report a minireview to give a brief introduction of applications of nanomaterials in the field of forensic science. The materials that have their size in nanoscale (1 - 100 nm) comes under the category of nanomaterials. Nanomaterials possess various applications in different fields like cosmetic production, medical, photoconductivity etc. because of their physio-chemical, electrical and magnetic properties. Due to the different characteristic property that nanomaterials have, they are widely employed in diverse domains. In various fields of forensic science such as fingerprints, toxicology, medicine, serology, nanomaterials are being used extensively. Large surface area to volume ratio of the materials in nano-regime makes the nanomaterials suitable for all these application with high efficiency. This review article briefs about the nanomaterials, their advantages and their novel applications in various fields, focusing especially in the field of forensic science. The basic idea of different areas of forensic science such as development of fingerprints, detection of drugs, estimating the time since death, analysis of GSR, detection of various explosives and for the extraction of DNA etc. has also been provided.

Verifiable Quantum Advantage without Structure
Takashi Yamakawa, Mark Zhandry
We show the following hold, unconditionally unless otherwise stated, relative to a random oracle: - There are NP search problems solvable by quantum polynomial-time machines but not classical probabilistic polynomial-time machines. - There exist functions that are one-way, and even collision resistant, against classical adversaries but are easily inverted quantumly. Similar separations hold for digital signatures and CPA-secure public key encryption (the latter requiring the assumption of a classically CPA-secure encryption scheme). Interestingly, the separation does not necessarily extend to the case of other cryptographic objects such as PRGs. - There are unconditional publicly verifiable proofs of quantumness with the minimal rounds of interaction: for uniform adversaries, the proofs are non-interactive, whereas for non-uniform adversaries the proofs are two message public coin. - Our results do not appear to contradict the Aaronson-Ambanis conjecture. Assuming this conjecture, there exist publicly verifiable certifiable randomness, again with the minimal rounds of interaction. By replacing the random oracle with a concrete cryptographic hash function such as SHA2, we obtain plausible Minicrypt instantiations of the above results. Previous analogous results all required substantial structure, either in terms of highly structured oracles and/or algebraic assumptions in Cryptomania and beyond.
A Recipe for Social Media Analysis
Shahid Alam, Juvariya Khan
The Ubiquitous nature of smartphones has significantly increased the use of social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, and LinkedIn, etc., among the public, government, and businesses. Facebook generated ~70 billion USD in 2019 in advertisement revenues alone, a ~27% increase from the previous year. Social media has also played a strong role in outbreaks of social protests responsible for political changes in different countries. As we can see from the above examples, social media plays a big role in business intelligence and international politics. In this paper, we present and discuss a high-level functional intelligence model (recipe) of Social Media Analysis (SMA). This model synthesizes the input data and uses operational intelligence to provide actionable recommendations. In addition, it also matches the synthesized function of the experiences and learning gained from the environment. The SMA model presented is independent of the application domain, and can be applied to different domains, such as Education, Healthcare and Government, etc. Finally, we also present some of the challenges faced by SMA and how the SMA model presented in this paper solves them.
L’autore (quasi)-personaggio e altre identità mutevoli nella prosa romena postmodernista
Emilia David

Technicolor coupled models
A. A. Natale, A. Doff
When technicolor (TC), QCD, extended technicolor (ETC) and other interactions become coupled through their different Schwinger-Dyson equations, the solution of these equations are modified compared to those of the isolated equations. The change in the self-energies is similar to that obtained in the presence of four-fermion interactions, but without their ad hoc inclusion in the theory. In this case the TC and QCD self-energies decrease logarithmically with the momenta, which allows us to build models where ETC boson masses can be pushed to very high energies, and do not lead to undesirable flavor changing interactions. Viable TC models may be built along this line including a necessary horizontal symmetry. The different fermionic mass scales are dictated by the different strong interactions. Pseudo-Goldstone bosons acquire large masses in this class of models.
Scacchi, dame, ladruncoli e latrunculi nell’antica Roma.
The article proposes a reflexion on the ludonym ludus latrunculorum, which has been proven in literary sources to be one of the most widespread “board games” in Latin antiquity. Over time we have partly lost its memory and it has become a sort of mysterious object. This situation is reflected by Italian translations, which often, recklessly, interpret the ludus latrunculorumas “chess”or “draughts.”

Simulating Crowds in Real Time with Agent-Based Modelling and a Particle Filter
Nick Malleson, Kevin Minors, Le-Minh Kieu
et al.
Agent-based modelling is a valuable approach for systems whose behaviour is driven by the interactions between distinct entities. They have shown particular promise as a means of modelling crowds of people in streets, public transport terminals, stadiums, etc. However, the methodology faces a fundamental difficulty: there are no established mechanisms for dynamically incorporating real-time data into models. This limits simulations that are inherently dynamic, such as pedestrian movements, to scenario testing of, for example, the potential impacts of new architectural configurations on movements. This paper begins to address this fundamental gap by demonstrating how a particle filter could be used to incorporate real data into an agent-based model of pedestrian movements at run time. The experiments show that it is indeed possible to use a particle filter to perform online (real time) model optimisation. However, as the number of agents increases, the number of individual particles (and hence the computational complexity) required increases exponentially. By laying the groundwork for the real-time simulation of crowd movements, this paper has implications for the management of complex environments (both nationally and internationally) such as transportation hubs, hospitals, shopping centres, etc.
Kafka’s formal strategies of writing sustain seemingly incompatible mental states; as such they do work uncanny, i.e. disquieting, incongruous and foolish all in one. We explore here this quality of Kafka’s narrative techniques, explored in connection with Quantum Mechanics and Freudian Conscious Complementary Series (1938). Starting from a paradoxical apologue of 1917 – posthumously published by Max Brod – this article investigates Kafka’s rhetorical and stylistic devices as a corresponding momentum, a different way of keeping in touch with the imperceptibly small and with invisible phenomena of microscopic as well as unconscious processes in comparison with Wirklichkeitand ordinary matter. Kafka’s rhetorical strategies are consequently compared to the idea of complementarity as well as to the observer effectwhich seems to undermine the existence of an objective world. In a counter-intuitive twist, Kafka’s writing strategies foreshadow quantum superposition and entanglement, where both quantum mechanics and Freudian complementary series (1938) hold onto two mutually exclusive ideas and representations at the same time (the double-slit experiment). The present paper argues that Kafka’s stylistic strategies in writing are expression of these duality relations. The Freudian complementary series (1938) as well as Bionian psychoanalytic investigations of the Uncertainty Principle maintain the same position as for Truth, one of Kafka’s favourite subjects to meditate and to write upon and one of the most discussed postulates of quantum mechanics.

Illness memoirs have been scrutinized by various disciplines for about twenty years, especially within the medical humanities. Literary studies have been focusing on illness narratives too, although it took some time to overcome the skepticism that surrounded these problematic texts, which used to be considered as lacking in aesthetic quality. On the contrary, this essay seeks to show how illness memoirs can even question some narratological concepts and challenge the way ethical meanings are identified in the text. In order to highlight the genre expectations that play an important role in the reception and in the composition of illness memoirs, I will draw attention on some aspects such as plot progression, authorial posture and paratextual elements.

A New Paradigm for Fault-Tolerant Computing with Interconnect Crosstalks
Naveen Kumar Macha, Bhavana Tejaswini Repalle, Sandeep Geedipally
et al.
The CMOS integrated chips at advanced technology nodes are becoming more vulnerable to various sources of faults like manufacturing imprecisions, variations, aging, etc. Additionally, the intentional fault attacks (e.g., high power microwave, cybersecurity threats, etc.) and environmental effects (i.e., radiation) also pose reliability threats to integrated circuits. Though the traditional hardware redundancy-based techniques like Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR), Quadded (QL) Logic etc. mitigate the risk to some extent, they add huge hardware overhead and are not very effective. Truly polymorphic circuits that are inherently capable of achieving multiple functionalities in a limited footprint could enhance the faultresilience/recovery of the circuits with limited overhead. We demonstrate a novel crosstalk logic based polymorphic circuit approach to achieve compact and efficient fault resilient circuits. We show a range of polymorphic primitive gates and their usage in a functional unit. The functional unit is a single arithmetic circuit that is capable of delivering Multiplication/Sorting/Addition output depending on the control inputs. Using such polymorphic computing units in an ALU would imply that a correct path for functional output is possible even when 2/3rd of the ALU is damaged. Our comparison results with respect to existing polymorphic techniques and CMOS reveal 28% and 62% reduction in transistor count respectively for the same functionalities. In conjunction with fault detection algorithms, the proposed polymorphic circuit concept can be transformative for fault tolerant circuit design directions with minimum overhead.
