Is There a Chronotope of the Short Story?
Hans Färnlöf
The present article suggests a means to reconceptualize the chronotope in order to widen its application and rethink its generic relations to the individual text. Bakhtin singles out an overarching chronotope for every novelistic genre and subgenre, considered as historic essences. However, he also identifies a horizontal and a vertical dimension of the chronotope which may coexist in a narrative. By focusing on these dimensions, we may analyze individual narratives taken from different genres. In particular, the article shows just how noteworthy are the affinities between the vertical dimension of the chronotope, as outlined by Bakhtin himself, and an extensive theorization of the short story beginning with the German Romantics. The methodological shift thus advocates a study of the specific genericity of an individual text rather than to the insertion of the text into a broadly categorized genre.

Sequential Validation of Treatment Heterogeneity
Stefan Wager
We use the martingale construction of Luedtke and van der Laan (2016) to develop tests for the presence of treatment heterogeneity. The resulting sequential validation approach can be instantiated using various validation metrics, such as BLPs, GATES, QINI curves, etc., and provides an alternative to cross-validation-like cross-fold application of these metrics.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19, there have been many scientific publications studying the COVID-19. The purpose of this study is to identify the research trend, collaboration pattern, most influential elements, etc. from scientific publications related to COVID-19 in 2020, by using bibliographic analysis and network analysis. In Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, motivation behind this paper is introduced. Some previous similar studies are discussed. Comparisons are made in different aspects, such as data collection methods, data analysis tools and methods, etc. Their advantages and limitations compared to this paper are also addressed. In Chapter 3, important concepts used in this paper related to bibliographic analysis such as h-index and g-index, and network analysis such as centrality measures and assortativity are introduced. Networks with small-world property and scale-free property will also be studied. In Chapter 4 and Chapter 5, the way the data are obtained for the analysis of this paper is introduced step by step. Full result is shown. In Chapter 6, conclusions are arrived. A general growing trend of the number of the publications is observed, due to the efforts made by scientific researchers. Meanwhile, measures should also be taken to encourage future study in this field.
Una spirale pazza
Giacomo Di Muccio

Narrating Conspiracy Theories: A Paradoxical Ethics of Otherness, Propaganda and Mistrust
Oksana Bohovyk, Andrii Bezrukov
Reflecting conspiracy theories in contemporary fiction actualises conspiratorial thinking as a specific sociocultural phenomenon and narrative. Four symptomatic novels – George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four, Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, Ahmed Khaled Towfik’s Utopia, and Stephen King’s The Institute – have been analysed from a conspiratorial perspective to illuminate the most efficient ways of shaping the human perception of reality. For this purpose, the following conspiracy elements have been delineated to be the basis of the novels’ poetics: otherness, propaganda, and mistrust. They affect the authors’ strategies of storytelling in the books written in the era of the end of truth. Following an interdisciplinary approach that primarily includes the method of narrative construction and semiotic analysis, the article focuses on the conspiracy elements for plotting the selected novels and explicates conspiracy narratives for manifesting the paradoxical ethics of truth as fiction. Conceptualising this idea in the sociocultural context confers to such a kind of literature a new ethical dimension.

Transformation formulas for the higher power of odd zeta values and generalized Eisenstein series
Soumyarup Banerjee, Vijay Sahani
In this article, we obtain a transformation formula for the higher power of odd zeta values, which generalizes Ramanujan's formula for odd zeta values. We have also investigated many important applications, which in turn provide generalizations of the transformation formula of the Eisenstein series, Dedekind eta function etc.
Multifaceted Context Representation using Dual Attention for Ontology Alignment
Vivek Iyer, Arvind Agarwal, Harshit Kumar
Ontology Alignment is an important research problem that finds application in various fields such as data integration, data transfer, data preparation etc. State-of-the-art (SOTA) architectures in Ontology Alignment typically use naive domain-dependent approaches with handcrafted rules and manually assigned values, making them unscalable and inefficient. Deep Learning approaches for ontology alignment use domain-specific architectures that are not only in-extensible to other datasets and domains, but also typically perform worse than rule-based approaches due to various limitations including over-fitting of models, sparsity of datasets etc. In this work, we propose VeeAlign, a Deep Learning based model that uses a dual-attention mechanism to compute the contextualized representation of a concept in order to learn alignments. By doing so, not only does our approach exploit both syntactic and semantic structure of ontologies, it is also, by design, flexible and scalable to different domains with minimal effort. We validate our approach on various datasets from different domains and in multilingual settings, and show its superior performance over SOTA methods.
Scaling up Differentially Private Deep Learning with Fast Per-Example Gradient Clipping
Jaewoo Lee, Daniel Kifer
Recent work on Renyi Differential Privacy has shown the feasibility of applying differential privacy to deep learning tasks. Despite their promise, however, differentially private deep networks often lag far behind their non-private counterparts in accuracy, showing the need for more research in model architectures, optimizers, etc. One of the barriers to this expanded research is the training time -- often orders of magnitude larger than training non-private networks. The reason for this slowdown is a crucial privacy-related step called "per-example gradient clipping" whose naive implementation undoes the benefits of batch training with GPUs. By analyzing the back-propagation equations we derive new methods for per-example gradient clipping that are compatible with auto-differentiation (e.g., in PyTorch and TensorFlow) and provide better GPU utilization. Our implementation in PyTorch showed significant training speed-ups (by factors of 54x - 94x for training various models with batch sizes of 128). These techniques work for a variety of architectural choices including convolutional layers, recurrent networks, attention, residual blocks, etc.
CSCF: a chaotic sine cosine firefly Algorithm for practical application problems
Bryar A. Hassan
Recently, numerous meta-heuristic based approaches are deliberated to reduce the computational complexities of several existing approaches that include tricky derivations, very large memory space requirement, initial value sensitivity etc. However, several optimization algorithms namely firefly algorithm, sine cosine algorithm, particle swarm optimization algorithm have few drawbacks such as computational complexity, convergence speed etc. So to overcome such shortcomings, this paper aims in developing a novel Chaotic Sine Cosine Firefly (CSCF) algorithm with numerous variants to solve optimization problems. Here, the chaotic form of two algorithms namely the sine cosine algorithm (SCA) and the Firefly (FF) algorithms are integrated to improve the convergence speed and efficiency thus minimizing several complexity issues. Moreover, the proposed CSCF approach is operated under various chaotic phases and the optimal chaotic variants containing the best chaotic mapping is selected. Then numerous chaotic benchmark functions are utilized to examine the system performance of the CSCF algorithm. Finally, the simulation results for the problems based on engineering design are demonstrated to prove the efficiency, robustness and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
Particulate Matter Exposure and Lung Cancer: A Review of two Meta-Analysis Studies
S. Stanley Young, Warren Kindzierski
The current regulatory paradigm is that PM2.5, over time causes lung cancer. This claim is based on cohort studies and meta-analysis that use cohort studies as their base studies. There is a need to evaluate the reliability of this causal claim. Our idea is to examine the base studies with respect to multiple testing and multiple modeling and to look closer at the meta-analysis using p-value plots. For two meta-analysis we investigated, some extremely small p-values were observed in some of the base studies, which we think are due to a combination of bias and small standard errors. The p-value plot for one meta-analysis indicates no effect. For the other meta-analysis, we note the p-value plot is consistent with a two-component mixture. Small p-values might be real or due to some combination of p-hacking, publication bias, covariate problems, etc. The large p-values could indicate no real effect, or be wrong due to low power, missing covariates, etc. We conclude that the results are ambiguous at best. These meta-analyses do not establish that PM2.5 is causal of lung tumors.

Exotic Leptonic solutions to observed anomalies in lepton universality observables and more
Lobsang Dhargyal
In this talk I will present the work that we did in \cite{1}\cite{2}\cite{3}\cite{4}\cite{5} related to observed lepton universality violation by Babar, Belle and LHCb in R($D^{(*)}$) and $R_{K^{(*)}}$ as well as the reported deviation in muon (g-2) by BNL. We had shown that all these anomalies as well as Baryon-genesis, Dark-matter and small neutrino masses could be explained by introducing new exotic scalars, leptons and scalar-leptoquarks only. It turn out that some of these models have very peculiar signatures such as prediction of existence of heavy stable charged particle \cite{1}\cite{2}, vector like fourth generation leptons \cite{3} or even scalar Baryonic DM candidates etc. Some of these models turn out to have very unique collider signatures such as $ee/pp \rightarrow μμ(ττ)\ +\ missing\ energy\ (ME)$, see \cite{1}\cite{2}\cite{4}. This is interesting in the sense that such peculiar signatures of these new particles can be searched in the upcoming HL-LHC or with even better chance of observing these signatures are in the upcoming precision machines such as ILC, CEPC etc.

Holograms of a Dynamical Top Quark
Will Clemens, Nick Evans, Marc Scott
We present holographic desciptions of dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking models that incorporate the top mass generation mechanism. The models allow computation of the spectrum in the presence of large anomalous dimensions due to walking and strong NJL interactions. Technicolour and QCD dynamics are described by the bottom-up Dynamic AdS/QCD model for arbitrary gauge groups and numbers of quark flavours. An assumption about the running of the anomalous dimension of the quark bilinear operator is input and the model then predicts the spectrum and decay constants for the mesons. We add NJL interactions responsible for flavour physics from extended tecnhicolour, top-colour etc using Witten's multi-trace prescription. We show the key behaviours of a top condensation model can be reproduced. We study generation of the top mass in (walking) one doublet and one family technicolour models and with strong ETC interactions. The models clearly reveal the tensions between the large top mass and precision data for delta rho. The neccessary tunings needed to generate a model compatible with precision constraints are simply demonstrated.
