The Traditional Circus of the State of Rio de Janeiro, between the Tactics and the Improvisations

It is a paper that discusses the current scenery of the Traditional Circus in the state of Rio de Janeiro, analyzing the tactics and improvisations witch the actors use as forms of survival and resistance. The investigation is based on data collected in artistic class meetings, interviews, press materials and specialized bibliography. An introduction is presented that outlines the methodology and presents a brief concept of Traditional Circus and its contemporary characteristics in that state. Next, the strategies adopted by circus performers to preserve tradition and artistic language are detailed. It is concluded that many of the characteristic elements of Traditional Circus are consequences of tactics developed by artists as a form of survival.

In-Depth Examination of Coverage Duration: Analyzing Years Covered and Skipped in Journal Indexing

Journals that have consistently maintained uninterrupted indexing over an extended period can be assumed to possess stability and sustainability in journal indexing. Building on this assumption, the objective of this study is to scrutinize the years omitted in the indexing of Scopus-indexed journals. To conduct this study, three coverage duration indicators—nyears-covered (total years covered), nyears-skipped (years skipped), and skipped/covered ratio (proportion of years skipped to total years covered)—were formulated. Data from SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) for 2022, consisting of 16,762 records (62% of downloaded data) with a coverage duration of 25 years or less, were used for this study. The results revealed that around 10% of Scopus-indexed journals experienced exclusions or coverage gaps. Longer coverage correlates positively with documents published, h-index, and citations, while skipped years decrease with these indicators. Open access (OA) journals exhibited a lower skipped/covered ratio than non-OA journals, suggesting a better sustainability of indexing than non-OA journals. Disciplinary differences in Scopus journal coverage duration revealed notable variation, suggesting that coverage duration indicators can be effectively used to evaluate journal stability within Scopus. Overall, the coverage gaps reflect Scopus’s efforts to regulate the journals it indexes. The coverage duration indicators proposed in this study can be applied to assess the stability of periodicals in any database, providing insights into the broader dynamics and quality standards maintained by a database, where the database periodically adds and removes its indexed contents.

O presente artigo aborda o uso da informação no contexto das redes sociais digitais trazendo a competência em informação e digital como mecanismos de atuação para o combate à desinformação. Considerando o contexto da sociedade contemporânea a qual evidenciam-se uma avalanche de informações e o aumento de notícias falsas no ambiente digital, torna-se imprescindível identificar a veracidade das informações, a fim de não ser absorvido nas armadilhas da desinformação e fake news. Dessa forma, suscita-se refletir: Como pensar em estratégias para o combate à desinformação por meio das práticas em competência em informação? Assim, configura-se como objetivo deste artigo propor alternativas para o combate à desinformação. A metodologia utilizada foi uma pesquisa bibliográfica de abordagem qualitativa. Como conclusão deste estudo identificamos a importância dos investimentos em formação dos indivíduos para o desenvolvimento das competências em informação e digitais à luz da fundamentação das quatro dimensões da competência, possibilitando aos indivíduos se tornar capazes de lidar com ferramentas tecnológicas e redes sociais digitais de forma responsável e crítica ante a desinformação.

Bibliotecas universitárias em um cenário de crise

A pandemia estabelecida pelo novo Coronavírus traz à tona reflexões sobre o papel mediador das bibliotecas universitárias. Neste contexto, busca-se identificar as bibliotecas universitárias como mediadoras de informação e promotoras do acesso à informação no combate à COVID-19. É uma pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, exploratória e descritiva, com pesquisa documental e a realização de revisão bibliográfica no âmbito da mediação da informação, desinformação e novas posturas no acesso à informação, frente à crise mundial. Buscou-se ainda em sites e redes sociais das Bibliotecas da Universidade de São Paulo (USP), Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP) e Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) informações sobre a COVID-19 aos usuários. Os resultados sugerem que o rigor dos sites podem ser um impeditivo para a disseminação de informação em momentos como o de pandemia, que pedem soluções mais rápidas e eficientes, que as redes sociais são uma alternativa à rigidez do site, pois a forma de utilização não esbarra nas relações entre setores administrativos. Indicam ainda, que o Facebook é a rede social mais utilizada pelas bibliotecas, e o Instagram a menos utilizada. Como considerações, tem-se que a COVID-19 evidenciou novas demandas e as bibliotecas, enquanto equipamentos de transformação social, precisam se adaptar para atender às expectativas de sua comunidade. Contudo, no contexto em que vive-se uma pandemia as bibliotecas necessitam refletir e adotar posturas inovadoras no acesso à informação.

When Might Human Indexing Be Strongly Justified

The paper is concerned with the justification for human indexing, in the modern era. We understand human indexing in a classic sense, of human description of information objects in accord with a controlled vocabulary. A justification for human indexing would be, when it yields a value commensurate with its cost. A long historically established value for retrieval systems is selection power, or an enhanced capacity for informed choice for the searcher. The question of the justification for human indexing is made analytically tractable by reversing the historical order of development. We ask, what forms of selection power are not readily obtainable from human use of computationally generated selection processes in searching? Selection processes widely available for searching written documents, for words, phrases, and combinations of words and phrases, are reviewed in ascending order of creativity. Human indexing is strongly justified, when the exchange value involved in producing its use value (likely to be realized as generic power) are commensurate with the exchange value it can command. The argument is conducted with written documents as examples but the possibility of extension of its conclusion to non-written documents is indicated.

Information Integration for Machine Actionable Data Management Plans

Data management plans are free-form text documents describing the data used and produced in scientific experiments. The complexity of data-driven experiments requires precise descriptions of tools and datasets used in computations to enable their reproducibility and reuse. Data management plans fall short of these requirements. In this paper, we propose machine-actionable data management plans that cover the same themes as standard data management plans, but particular sections are filled with information obtained from existing tools. We present mapping of tools from the domains of digital preservation, reproducible research, open science, and data repositories to data management plan sections. Thus, we identify the requirements for a good solution and identify its limitations. We also propose a machine-actionable data model that enables information integration. The model uses ontologies and is based on existing standards.

Documentación gráfica del patrimonio arquitectónico de la ciudad de Cáceres : una propuesta para su acceso y difusión digital

A partir de la documentación gráfica (fundamentalmente planos dibujados con medidas precisas) procedente de trabajos académicos, se diseña una herramienta de trabajo con apoyo de tecnología GIS. Esta herramienta permite recuperar y almacenar gráficos inéditos del patrimonio arquitectónico de Cáceres (en una primera fase) para su posterior utilización en la investigación académica. De esta forma se facilita la salida a la luz de una documentación de complejo acceso en la actualidad. Esa documentación está formada, en esta primera etapa, por trabajos académicos realizados en la Escuela Politécnica de la Universidad de Extremadura. Las fases posteriores incrementarán los archivos registrados, por un lado, y el ámbito geográfico de actuación, por otro.Starting with graphic documentation originating in academic works (basically, plans drawn with precise measurements), a tool is designed with the support of GIS technology. This tool allows for retrieving and storing unpublished graphics of the architectural heritage of Cáceres (in a first stage), for subsequent use in academic research. This method enables users to consult documentation that is barely accessible currently. In this first stage the documentation consists of papers from the Polytechnic School of the University of Extremadura. In subsequent phases both the number of recorded files, as well as the geographical scope of action, will increase.

CAI多媒體教學軟體之開發模式 Using an Instructional Design Model for Developing a Multimedia CAI Courseware

無 This article outlined a systematic instructional design model for developing a multimedia computer-aided instruction (CAI) courseware. The model illustrated roles and tasks as two dimensions necessary in a CAI production teamwork. Four major components (Analysis, Design, Development, and Revise/Evaluation) following by totally 25 steps are provided. Eight roles with each competent skills were identified. The model will be useful in serving as a framework for developing a mulrimedia CAI courseware for educators, instructional designers and CAI industry developers.

Designing the Next-Generation Chemistry Journal: The Internet Journal of Chemistry

The development of the Internet as a means for mass communication affords scientists an opportunity to re-evaluate the way they communicate scientific results. The computer is no longer just a way for preparing a conventional print article but is an electronic publication medium in its own right. In this article, we will discuss how our new journal, the Internet Journal of Chemistry, is designed to take advantage of the new technologies available in this electronic medium. We will discuss the development of our concept of an electronic journal, our decision on the scope and coverage of the journal, the financial logistics, and how the journal will be implemented. Woven within will be our perspectives on how the technologies may be utilized and how this new medium compares with traditional print publication.
