A Study of the Philosophy of Education and Analysis of the Principles of Implementing Education according to the Al-Qur’an

Purbatua Manurung, Abdul Hasan Saragih, Pagar Hasibuan

The research aims to analyze the principles of implementing education according to the Al-Qur’an. The Al-Qur’an is a source of guidance for Muslims in carrying out their lives, including conducting education. The principles of implementing education are contained in the Al-Qur’an which can be used as a guide for stakeholders and teachers in carrying out their duties. Developing principles for implementing education based on Islamic education philosophy in the Al-Qur’an will produce comprehensive guidance for believers. The research method used in this brief study was a content analysis of the Al-Qur’an to determine the philosophy of educational principles based on the Al-Qur’an. Systematic linguistic analysis in the original Al-Qur’an text and the translation of the Al-Qur’an in English to reveal the principles of educational implementation was carried out. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that there are several principles for implementing education contained in the Al-Qur’an. The first component of the educational principle is reasoning which is promoted in the Al-Qur’an, namely inferential, independent reasoning and facilitated reasoning. The second principle of implementing education is that implementing education is oriented towards developing moral character through various learning process activities or what is called orthopractic theology. The contribution of this research is the discovery of a strong principled basis for implementing education and becoming the basis for hermeneutical research to investigate the philosophy of implementing education based on the Al-Qur’an that can be applied in real life situations. This research has implications for the practice of implementing education in Indonesia. Teachers must pay attention to the learning methods used that can likely optimize students' reasoning abilities and must accommodate methods of remembering, listening and reading literacy activities.

Introduction: Touching the Wounds

M. Therese Lysaught

The paradigm shift toward the wounds of the world as a privileged locus theologicus reverberates throughout this issue of the Journal of Moral Theology . Each essay takes as its starting point for analysis and theological development the particularities of different wounds that are simultaneously social, bodily, and ecclesial. From the wounds of depression, moral injury, and trauma, to populist scapegoating in the Philippines and violence in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, each essay first touches a place of woundedness, interrogates the church and received theology, and from there points in new directions for both moral theology and ecclesial practice.

Visualizing a Collective Student Model for Procedural Training Environments

Diego Riofrío-Luzcando, Jaime RamÍrez, Cristian Moral et al.

Visualization plays a relevant role for discovering patterns in big sets of data. In fact, the most common way to help a human with a pattern interpretation is through a graphic. In 2D/3D virtual environments for procedural training the student interaction is more varied and complex than in traditional e-learning environments. Therefore, the visualization and interpretation of students' behaviors becomes a challenge. This motivated us to design the visualization of a collective student model built from student logs taken from 2D/3D virtual environments for procedural training. This paper presents the design decisions that enable a suitable visualization of this model to instructors as well as a web tool that implements this visualization and is intended: to help instructors to improve their own teaching; and to enhance the tutoring strategy of an Intelligent Tutoring System. Then, this paper illustrates, with three detailed examples, how this tool can be used to those educational purposes. Next, the paper presents an experiment for validating the utility of the tool. In this experiment we show how the tool can help to modify the tutoring strategy of a 3D virtual laboratory. In this way, it is shown that the proposed visualization of the model can serve to improve the performance of students in 2D/3D virtual environments for procedural training.

Knowledge as Trust (Amanah): An Islamic Theological Perspective on Information Accessibility

Aulia Rahma Ritonga, Arief Marizki Purba, Zoraya Alfathin Rangkuti

The digital era presents new ethical challenges in the distribution and consumption of information, particularly amid disparities in access to and production of global knowledge. This study aims to examine the concept of amanah in Islamic theology as an ethical framework addressing the issue of digital information inequality. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach and literature-based research methods, primary data were derived from verses of the Qur’an and hadith, supported by secondary literature from contemporary studies. The analysis was conducted using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model, covering data condensation, presentation, and verification, with source triangulation employed for data validity. The findings indicate that amanah is not merely an individual moral value but a collective ethic capable of structurally intervening in digital information systems. Values such as justice, tabayyun, islah, and khilafah serve as theological foundations for building a just, inclusive, and civilised information ecosystem. This study emphasises the importance of integrating Islamic values into information policy and encourages the development of a spiritually accountable Islamic digital epistemology.

Wittgenstein’s Mystical Will and Catholic Theology: A Continental Philosophy Approach to the Transcendental Dimensions of Human Action

Nicos Kaloyirou

This article explores Ludwig Wittgenstein’s conception of the will through close engagement with his primary texts, the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, Notebooks 1914–1916, and Philosophical Investigations, demonstrating profound resonances with Catholic mystical theology and social teaching. By integrating insights from Peter Tyler’s analysis of mystical strategies, Richard McDonough’s defense of Wittgenstein’s persistent mysticism, and the grammatical Thomism of Herbert McCabe, David Burrell, and Fergus Kerr, this study shows how Wittgenstein’s distinction between empirical and ethical will enriches Catholic theology in three crucial ways: First, it provides a philosophically rigorous account of the transcendental dimensions of moral agency that avoids both determinism and Pelagianism. Second, through Wittgenstein’s analysis of language-games and forms of life, it offers resources for articulating how Catholic doctrine operates within distinctive practices of prayer, sacrament, and ethical commitment. Third, by revealing the grammatical constraints on God-talk, it strengthens the apophatic tradition’s emphasis on divine transcendence while grounding concrete ethical action in subsidiarity and solidarity. Drawing upon Continental philosophy’s emphasis on responsibility and transcendence, this article demonstrates that Wittgenstein’s mystical philosophy, far from being merely speculative, provides essential conceptual tools for contemporary Catholic theological method and pastoral practice.

Navigating Ethical Supply Chains: The Intersection of Diplomatic Management and Theological Ethics

E. Chukwu, Albright Adu-Baah, Moazam Niaz et al.

In an increasingly interconnected and ethically conscious world, the integration of diplomatic management and theological ethics into supply chains emerges as a transformative framework that redefines business practices. This paper explores the intricate intersections of these disciplines and their profound implications for ethical supply chain management. The convergence of diplomatic negotiation strategies with theological principles results in a visionary approach that addresses the moral complexities of supply chains while fostering collaborative relationships, responsible practices, and lasting positive impacts. The paper first delves into the fundamentals of diplomatic management and its relevance to ethical supply chains. It examines how negotiation techniques grounded in mutual respect, compromise, and dialogue can transcend traditional transactional models, paving the way for equitable collaborations that encompass cultural diversity and shared value creation. The integration of theological ethics further enriches this approach, embedding moral imperatives into negotiations and emphasizing values such as justice, compassion, and stewardship. Building upon this foundation, the paper explores the practical applications of diplomatic management and theological ethics in supply chain management. It delves into case studies that exemplify how these principles can guide decision-making, strengthen partnerships, and navigate ethical challenges in complex global supply networks. Moreover, the paper underscores the potential benefits of this integrated framework, such as enhanced reputation, increased consumer loyalty, and the promotion of international cooperation. The paper also envisions the future landscape shaped by ethical supply chains guided by diplomatic management and theological ethics. It underscores the significance of this approach in reshaping industries, influencing consumer behavior, and cultivating a global culture that values responsible practices. Additionally, the paper emphasizes the role of education, advocacy, and leadership in driving the adoption of this framework, as well as the challenges and strategies associated with measuring its impact and fostering a culture of ethical resilience. Illuminates the transformative potential of integrating diplomatic management and theological ethics in ethical supply chains. By merging the principles of diplomacy, theology, and ethics, organizations can forge a path toward sustainable business practices that prioritize human dignity, environmental stewardship, and societal well-being. As industries, leaders, and consumers align their values with this visionary approach, they contribute to a future where ethical considerations are woven into the fabric of global supply chain practices, shaping a more harmonious and responsible world.

The Church’s Role in the Social Integration of Physically Handicapped Individuals: A Theological Perspective

John Philip Sele, Cynthia Wanjiku

For a very long time, the Church has been a major force in creating a sense of belonging and support for underprivileged populations, including people with physical impairments. This paper examines the theological underpinnings of the Church’s support of social integration and how these ideas have been applied to assist those who are physically disabled. Based on theological discourse, ecclesiastical concepts, and biblical teachings, the study emphasizes the Church’s moral duty to advance inclusiveness, equality, and dignity. It examines different Christian faiths’ past and current endeavours to create outreach campaigns, programs, and structural modifications to accommodate people with disabilities. In addition, the study looks at how the Church might work with governments and civil society organizations to build inclusive and sustainable communities. Through this investigation, the research hopes to provide a theological and practical framework for enhancing the social integration of people with physical disabilities within the Church and the larger community.

Wisdom of Ben Sira

Takamitsu Muraoka

Among the earliest of the deuterocanonical books of the OT, the Wisdom of Ben Sira, also known as the Book of Sirach, contains the most comprehensive sample of wisdom literature preserved in the Bible. This literature also includes the Books of Job, Proverbs, Qoheleth or Ecclesiastes, the Wisdom of Solomon, and several so-called Wisdom Psalms. The book offers moral, cultic, and ethical aphorisms, folk proverbs, psalms of praise and lament, theological and philosophical thoughts, homiletic urging, and pointed comments about life and customs of the day. Hence it has been popular with both Jews and Christians, leaving its impact on the proverbial literature of the West. The following points will be treated: author, date of composition, and canonicity; nature of the book and contents; and history of the text.

On the Mathematical foundations of Diffusion Monte Carlo

Michel Caffarel, Pierre del Moral, Luc de Montella

The Diffusion Monte Carlo method with constant number of walkers, also called Stochastic Reconfiguration as well as Sequential Monte Carlo, is a widely used Monte Carlo methodology for computing the ground-state energy and wave function of quantum systems. In this study, we present the first mathematically rigorous analysis of this class of stochastic methods on non necessarily compact state spaces, including linear diffusions evolving in quadratic absorbing potentials, yielding what seems to be the first result of this type for this class of models. We present a novel and general mathematical framework with easily checked Lyapunov stability conditions that ensure the uniform-in-time convergence of Diffusion Monte Carlo estimates towards the top of the spectrum of Schrödinger operators. For transient free evolutions, we also present a divergence blow up of the estimates w.r.t. the time horizon even when the asymptotic fluctuation variances are uniformly bounded. We also illustrate the impact of these results in the context of generalized coupled quantum harmonic oscillators with non necessarily reversible nor stable diffusive particle and a quadratic energy absorbing well associated with a semi-definite positive matrix force.

Spiritual Formation in Theological Education: A Multi-case Exploration on Seminaries and Student Development

David C. Wang, Angela H. Reed, Stephen P. Greggo et al.

In recent decades, theological schools have demonstrated increased interest in educational models that not only transmit knowledge and skill to students, but also prepare them to have the character and virtue dispositions needed to successfully navigate the moral challenges that await them in future ministry settings. This shift is reflected in the most recent 2020 accreditation standards of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS), which highlight the importance of “personal and spiritual formation” as a key facet to seminary programs. Research conducted by the ATS (2018) into how seminaries understood the terms “personal and spiritual formation” revealed that over 40% of seminaries do not have a formal or working institutional definition of personal and spiritual formation. While this finding may be understandable given the complexities of terms and definitions in light of diverse Christian spiritual traditions, it also highlights an area of crucial need given the centrality of spiritual formation to the mission of theological education. Accordingly, the aim of this present paper is to support work in this area and to stimulate a larger discussion into the topic of spiritual formation within the seminary context by articulating and putting forth four different institutional perspectives on the topic (from Fuller Theological Seminary, George Truett Theological Seminary, Talbot School of Theology, and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School).

Church and Liberal Healthcare: Need of Spiritual and Moral Education for Healthcare Workers

Dmitry V. Mikhel

The increased attention of the Orthodox Church to issues of medical education in our country was the result of the fact that in the 1990s it once again became one of the most active forces in our society. The connection between the church and the medical community, which goes back to a time when the doctoring of the mind and bodily health was in fact the work of the same people, cannot leave the church indifferent to the professional formation of healthcare workers. The Soviet era saw the forced de-Christianization of the medical profession and measures taken to abolish medical ethics rooted in the Hippocratic Oath and the Gospel commandments. The restoration of dialogue between church and medicine began after the collapse of the Soviet state, but it is still insufficiently regular. Currently, factors complicating this dialogue are liberal medical legislation and capitalist economies in health care. The former, by legalizing abortion, artificial insemination, and sterilization, absolves the doctor of moral responsibility in matters concerning the management of human life; the latter encourages him to view his profession not as a service, but as a means of making money from other people’s suffering. If the dialogue between church and medicine were to be carried on permanently within the walls of medical schools, it would strengthen the spiritual and moral foundations of the medical profession, upon which it has always existed. One of the most significant forms of this dialogue should undoubtedly be the teaching of biomedical ethics, which should be grounded in modern theology and the values of traditional spiritual cultures of Russia.

On the exit-problem for self-interacting diffusions

Ashot Aleksian, Pierre Del Moral, Aline Kurtzmann et al.

We study the exit-time from a domain of a self-interacting diffusion, where the Brownian motion is replaced by $σB_t$ for a constant $σ$. The first part of this work consists in showing that the rate of convergence (of the occupation measure of the self-interacting process toward some explicit Gibbs measure) previously obtained in \cite{kk-ejp} for a convex confinment potential $V$ and a convex interaction potential can be bounded uniformly with respect to $σ$. Then, we prove an Arrhenius-type law for the first exit-time from a domain (satisfying classical hypotheses of Freidlin-Wentzell theory).

Stochastic Epidemic Models inference and diagnosis with Poisson Random Measure Data Augmentation

Benjamin Nguyen-Van-Yen, Pierre Del Moral, Bernard Cazelles

We present a new Bayesian inference method for compartmental models that takes into account the intrinsic stochasticity of the process. We show how to formulate a SIR-type Markov jump process as the solution of a stochastic differential equation with respect to a Poisson Random Measure (PRM), and how to simulate the process trajectory deterministically from a parameter value and a PRM realisation. This forms the basis of our Data Augmented MCMC, which consists in augmenting parameter space with the unobserved PRM value. The resulting simple Metropolis-Hastings sampler acts as an efficient simulation-based inference method, that can easily be transferred from model to model. Compared with a recent Data Augmentation method based on Gibbs sampling of individual infection histories, PRM-augmented MCMC scales much better with epidemic size and is far more flexible. PRM-augmented MCMC also yields a posteriori estimates of the PRM, that represent process stochasticity, and which can be used to validate the model. If the model is good, the posterior distribution should exhibit no pattern and be close to the PRM prior distribution. We illustrate this by fitting a non-seasonal model to some simulated seasonal case count data. Applied to the Zika epidemic of 2013 in French Polynesia, our approach shows that a simple SEIR model cannot correctly reproduce both the initial sharp increase in the number of cases as well as the final proportion of seropositive. PRM-augmentation thus provides a coherent story for Stochastic Epidemic Model inference, where explicitly inferring process stochasticity helps with model validation.

On the Mathematical Theory of Ensemble (Linear-Gaussian) Kalman-Bucy Filtering

Adrian N. Bishop, Pierre Del Moral

The purpose of this review is to present a comprehensive overview of the theory of ensemble Kalman-Bucy filtering for continuous-time, linear-Gaussian signal and observation models. We present a system of equations that describe the flow of individual particles and the flow of the sample covariance and the sample mean in continuous-time ensemble filtering. We consider these equations and their characteristics in a number of popular ensemble Kalman filtering variants. Given these equations, we study their asymptotic convergence to the optimal Bayesian filter. We also study in detail some non-asymptotic time-uniform fluctuation, stability, and contraction results on the sample covariance and sample mean (or sample error track). We focus on testable signal/observation model conditions, and we accommodate fully unstable (latent) signal models. We discuss the relevance and importance of these results in characterising the filter's behaviour, e.g. it's signal tracking performance, and we contrast these results with those in classical studies of stability in Kalman-Bucy filtering. We also provide a novel (and negative) result proving that the bootstrap particle filter cannot track even the most basic unstable latent signal, in contrast with the ensemble Kalman filter (and the optimal filter). We provide intuition for how the main results extend to nonlinear signal models and comment on their consequence on some typical filter behaviours seen in practice, e.g. catastrophic divergence.

The New Evangelization of the Catholic Church in the Context of Modern Socio-Cultural Changes

Yaryna Turchyn, Mariana Zdoroveha

The article is dedicated to the analysis of new evangelization as a missionary activity of the Roman Catholic Church because of rapid development of Internet, digital devices and social media around the world. It has been determined main goal of new evangelization as drawing people back from the path of secularism to the Christianity. The author outlines five areas for spreading a new evangelization in the world, which are culture, social sphere, economy, civil society, science and technology. It has been analyzed an understanding, perception and main approaches of Catholic Pontiffs to the implementation of new evangelization in the world. The author analyses social networks and Internet highlighting most popular platforms where Catholic Church has many followers, which became an evidence of successful implementation of new evangelization. Among the challenges is it pointed out the necessity for Catholic Church remain both online and offline that requires more time for communication, particular digital knowledge for proclaiming the Gospel via social media as well as having digital devices that would help people connect with their church. The author draw conclusions, noting that further implementation of new evangelization of the church would be aimed at improving its efficiency, quality of presenting main values as well as ease of perception by target audience.

Abstract Illuminating perspectives for the pastorate from trauma research on traumatized children. This article focuses on the profound long-term implications of unresolved trauma during childhood. These implications can be physical, emotional or spiritual in nature. The important role of recurring traumatic memories is discussed as well as a number of further typical behavioural patterns as well as acting out behaviours. Exposure to the unresolved trauma using various exposure techniques during the counselling process is also discussed. Important aspects regarding a number of therapeutic strategies are then discussed, while also reflecting on possible pastoral implications. In this regard, for example, the focus is on the use of a journal, predictable routines and rituals, child-centred play, the child's identity in Christ, the importance of listening to the child, setting a timeline and the therapeutic value of drawing tasks. From the results of research in the field of trauma, it eventually appears that there are a variety of useful components and perspectives that can be effectively incorporated by pastoral counsellors and pastoral play therapists into the pastoral counselling and guidance of traumatized children. https://doi.org/10.19108/KOERS.85.1.2487

Stability Properties of Systems of Linear Stochastic Differential Equations with Random Coefficients

Adrian N. Bishop, Pierre Del Moral

This work is concerned with the stability properties of linear stochastic differential equations with random (drift and diffusion) coefficient matrices, and the stability of a corresponding random transition matrix (or exponential semigroup). We consider a class of random matrix drift coefficients that involves random perturbations of an exponentially stable flow of deterministic (time-varying) drift matrices. In contrast with more conventional studies, our analysis is not based on the existence of Lyapunov functions, and it does not rely on any ergodic properties. These approaches are often difficult to apply in practice when the drift/diffusion coefficients are random. We present rather weak and easily checked perturbation-type conditions for the asymptotic stability of time-varying and random linear stochastic differential equations. We provide new log-Lyapunov estimates and exponential contraction inequalities on any time horizon as soon as the fluctuation parameter is sufficiently small. These seem to be the first results of this type for this class of linear stochastic differential equations with random coefficient matrices.
