The DMPTool NIH Data Management and Sharing Plan (DMSP) Templates Project was launched in response to the 2023 NIH Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Policy. This new policy introduced a more structured framework for DMS Plans, featuring six key elements, a departure from the 2003 NIH DMS policy. The project aimed to simplify the process for data librarians, research administrators, and researchers by providing a template with curated guidance, eliminating the need to navigate various policies and guidelines. The template breaks out each Plan section and subsection and provides related guidance and examples at the point of need. This effort has resulted in two NIH DMSP Templates. The first is a generic template (NIH-Default) for all ICs, complying with NOT-OD-21-013 and NOT-OD-22-198. More recently, an NIMH-specific template (NIH-NIMH) was added based on NOT-MH-23-100. As of October 2023, over 5,000 DMS Plans have been written using the main NIH-Default template and the NIH-NIMH alternative template.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the factors influencing professional publishing and propose a model for professional book publishing in Iran. Method: The research was conducted using a survey method with a researcher-developed questionnaire. The statistical population consisted of professional publishing managers in the country, totaling 581 publishers, from which 231 were selected as a sample based on Cochran's formula. Ultimately, 211 questionnaires were completed and analyzed. Data processing was carried out using SPSS software, employing exploratory the factor analysis and multiple regression test. Findings: Based on exploratory factor analysis, nine factors have been identified as influential in professional publishing: the economics of publishing, the supply and display of publishing products, government support and backing, adherence to copyright, publishing evaluation and auditing, advertising, marketing and branding, publishing management, and the creation of publishing content. Additionally, five factors have been recognized as dimensions of professional publishing, which include technical elements, cultural and literary circles and centers, authors and audiences, electronic systems, and distribution and marketing elements. Ultimately, in the regression model, five independent variables were included in the equation due to their significance level being below .05. Conclusion: The findings of this research contribute to enhancing the awareness and understanding of audiences regarding publishing processes. They also assist publishers and industry managers in recognizing successful trends and existing challenges within the field, as well as in formulating supportive policies and strategies for publishing by relevant authorities.

Aims: This article presents a study of a conceptual model for a machine-actionable Data Management Plan (maDMP - Machine Actionable Data Management Plan) for the Brazilian setting conducted by the Brazilian Institute of Information and Technology (IBICT). The objectives were to analyse the existing tools; to consider the feasibility of developing a new solution from the very beginning, or adapting and remodeling an existing one; and to design the conceptual model considering the agents involved in the Brazilian research ecosystem. Methods: This article reports an exploratory study on the development of a conceptual model of a Data Management Plan for use in the Brazilian scenario. The Design Science Research method was used, a systematic process that allows researchers to study and describe a phenomenon and also design or prescribe solutions for a specific problem (Dresch et al., 2014). Results: A detailed comparative study of the existing development tools for DMPs is presented, in addition to a description of the design of the conceptual model of the Brazilian solution. The ideal scenario for this case is the improvement of the existing DMPTool tool, optimizing resources and development time. This robust instrument has accompanied the development of resources that will establish it a tool for creating DMPs that can be activated by machines. The study identifies the connections and exchanges of information necessary for the Brazilian Science ecosystem, in which the IBICT's DMP tool can play a centralizing and aggregating role.

Harmonized composition data for foods and dietary supplements are needed for research and for policy decision making. For a correct assessment of dietary intake, the categorization and the classification of food products and dietary supplements are necessary. In recent decades, the marketing of dietary supplements has increased. A food supplements-based database has, as a principal feature, an intrinsic dynamism related to the continuous changes in formulations, which consequently leads to the need for constant monitoring of the market and for regular updates of the database. This study presents an update to the Dietary Supplement Label Database in Italy focused on dietary supplements coding. The updated dataset here, presented for the first time, consists of the codes of 216 dietary supplements currently on the market in Italy that have functional foods as their characterizing ingredients, throughout the two commonly most used description and classification systems: LanguaLTM and FoodEx2-. This update represents a unique tool and guideline for other compilers and users for applying classification coding systems to dietary supplements. Moreover, this updated dataset represents a valuable resource for several applications such as epidemiological investigations, exposure studies, and dietary assessment.

Accurate identification of researchers and their scientific output is crucial for all parties involved in scientific research (such as publishers, funders, and universities), as many processes like promotions, securing funding, publishing, and article review depend on this accuracy. However, accurately identifying authors and attributing their work remains challenging due to the proliferation of online journal articles. Difficulties include disambiguating similar names, pseudonyms, different alphabets, abbreviations, and changes in affiliations due to researcher mobility. To address these challenges, author identifiers have been developed. This study will detail their history, applications, and provide a comprehensive review of both Arabic and international digital identifiers.

Reporting and presentation of research activities and outcome for research institutions in official, normative standards are more and more important and are the basis to comply with reporting duties. Institutional Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) serve as important databases or data sources for external and internal reporting, which should ideally be connected with interfaces to the operational systems for automated loading routines to extract relevant research information. This investigation evaluates whether (semi-) automated reporting using open, public research information collected via persistent identifiers (PIDs) for organizations (ROR), persons (ORCID), and research outputs (DOI) can reduce effort of reporting. For this purpose, internally maintained lists of persons to whom an ORCID record could be assigned (internal ORCID person lists) of two different German research institutions—Osnabrück University (UOS) and the non-university research institution TIB—Leibniz Information Center for Science and Technology Hannover—are used to investigate ORCID coverage in external open data sources like FREYA PID Graph (developed by DataCite), OpenAlex and ORCID itself. Additionally, for UOS a detailed analysis of discipline specific ORCID coverage is conducted. Substantial differences can be found for ORCID coverage between both institutions and for each institution regarding the various external data sources. A more detailed analysis of ORCID distribution by discipline for UOS reveals disparities by research area—internally and in external data sources. Recommendations for future actions can be derived from our results: Although the current level of coverage of researcher IDs which could automatically be mapped is still not sufficient to use persistent identifier-based extraction for standard (automated) reporting, it can already be a valuable input for institutional CRIS.

Esther J. Walls (1926–2008) was a Black librarian born in Mason City, Iowa, who sought social justice in her home state before making her belief in equity and literacy the touchstone of her significant career. Walls worked at the New York Public Library and other important institutions, including appointments to prominent organizations’ committees and boards that recognized her deep knowledge and commitment to service. While earning her master’s degree in library science from Columbia University in 1951 and for years afterward, Walls brought Black culture into the Harlem Branch library and brought the library and its resources into the Harlem community, a then-radical act of information-sharing. New technologies and artifacts from her travels to Africa formed the basis for programs and community conversations. In 1963 she led an American Library Association (ALA) Young Adult Services Division (YASD, now YALSA) committee that created African Encounter: A Selected Bibliography of Books, Films, and Other Materials for Promoting an Understanding of Africa Among Young Adults. Her distinguished career included appointments as director of the US Secretariat to promote UNESCO’s International Year of the Book in 1972 and, in the early 1990s, an appointment to the advisory board for the Center for the Book at the Library of Congress.

The provision of bibliographic resources for individual branches of science and / or practical activity is traditional and now it is one of the most developed areas of bibliography. The library and information sphere, including library, bibliographic and scientific information activities and the scientific disciplines that study them needs (library and information sciences) it as well. These areas are characterized by the proximity and significant concurrency of goals, objects, processes, methods, and results of activities. At present, their further integration, transformation of traditional libraries (first of all, scientific ones) into library and information centers is underway. The bibliography of library and information science and practice includes: 1) bibliography of literature on history, theory, methodology, organization, methodology and technology of these activities, 2) bibliography of publications and electronic resources of library and information institutions; for bibliography as such bibliography of bibliography is also of particular importance, 3) bio-bibliography of branch leaders (polybiobibliographic and monobibiographic (personal) resources). Since the 1940s the Russian State Library is the main center of the current bibliographic registration of literature on librarianship and bibliography (until 2015 – the release of current indexes, since 1989 – the formation of a thematic abstract bibliographic database). The library prepared many printed retrospective indexes and lists on the problems of library and bibliographic science and practice, which creation not only its bibliographic, but also research, methodical and production structural units took active part in. In the XXI century, the Library activities in the field of retrospective branch bibliography are limited to the creation of a series of indexes “Bibliography. Bibliographic science”, reflecting the scientifically significant array of native bibliographic literature in Russian since 1959. The main attention is paid to bibliographic registration of publications and electronic resources of the Library and about it, as well as works of its staff. Electronic catalogs and bibliographic indexes are being created that take into account the products of libraries of the Russian Federation, as well as countries – the former Soviet republics. Polybiobibliographic and personal indexes are being prepared.

Wattpad is a community website that allows people to find stories from authors of various genres. This study aims to determine the pattern of fiction publishing in the Wattpad online community. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The research data were obtained through three (3) informants who were productive fiction writers on Wattpad. The results show that the writers on Wattpad get ideas from an open-minded/objective view of many things, the environment, and experiences that are supported by information. The process of publishing starts from creating an account then filling in the details of the story, till publishing it. There are two types of publishing processes, namely the author submits the manuscript to the publisher or publisher who contacts the author. Apart from being published, some have been made into cinema films. This research concludes that writers on Wattpad can get story ideas from anywhere and then develop them into stories, while the publication process on Wattpad has no special rules because everything is based on the author and the existence of publications from Wattpad to other media such as a publishing and being made into cinema films.

The lexicographical information resources are being studied by many scientific disciplines: the library science, bibliography, bibliology, lexicography, etc. The author examines the polar-opposite opinions regarding the terms “typology” and “classification”, i. e. their synonymity or absolute demarcation. As a result of scholarly discussions, the terms “bibliotypology” and “typological classification”, “typology of classification”, “typology of typologies”, etc., emerged. The major problems of classification/typology of lexicographical information resources are analyzed. These problems hinder the reference and bibliographic user services. The problems embrace comprehension of modern lexicographical processes, diversity of classifications/typologies, dictionary boom, rise in the number of dictionaries, their types and genres, typological and aspectual synonymity of dictionaries, etc. The solutions for these types of information resources are suggested (integrated studies by lexicographers, linguists, information and library scientists; identification of major groups of characteristics to be used in classification/typology of lexicographical information resources, etc.). The author’s alphabet explanatory synonymic glossary “The vectors of modern national lexicography” [in Russian] and the alphabet union synonymic bibliography “The modern dictionaries of the Russian language” comprise the terms essential for reference and bibliographic services when executing queries of lexicographical and socio-humanitarian character.

In-House Bookbinding and Repair is a working document that contains information on setting up both a basic bookbindery and repair lab (i.e. the design, equipment, tools, and supplies needed) and instructions on rebinding and repairing cloth-bound books. Highly illustrated to greater enhance its usefulness, this manual also covers various aspects of book repair and conservation, and contains appendixes on manufacturers and suppliers of materials and products discussed in the text, an extensive Glossary of terms, a separate section on World Wide Web Resources, and a helpful bibliography. This manual has proven valuable to libraries of all sizes and locations. Library managers and administrators will find it a worthwhile resource as they contemplate the utility of an in-house lab. Library staff charged with bookbinding and book repair will find the manual to be a practical reference tool. The volume is also designed to be used as a primer for related courses in Library and Information Science Studies programs and may be of interest to individuals interested in private practice. For this second edition, the 2005 manual has been updated and every chapter significantly revised and/or expanded with a view to greatly increasing the book's practical value. Our revisions reflect decades of bench experience in the workshop. The Bibliography and Internet Resources have been updated. Information on manufacturers, suppliers, and supplies has been revised to reflect changes in the marketplace and successful practices. Conservation bookbinding and repair follows old and well-established traditions. Leaving theory and esoteric debate for others, this revised edition is essential reading if you are ready to roll up your sleeves and get to work.

Vilniaus universiteto Knygotyros ir dokumentotyros institutas Universiteto g. 3, LT-01513 Vilnius, Lietuva El. paštas: domas.kaunas@kf.vu.lt Martynas Jankus (1858–1946) buvo aktyvus XIX a. pabaigos–XX a. pradžios lietuvių tautinio sąjūdžio dalyvis.
