Developing a Comprehensive Assessment Framework for Experiential Quality at Internet Celebrity Check-in Places: Incorporating Embodied Theory in a Quantitative Approach

Wang Danhe, Yuhanis bt Ab Aziz, Lee Shin Yiing

The increasing popularity of Internet Celebrity Check-in Places has stimulated research interest in these emerging tourist destinations. However, previous studies have predominantly focused on psychological satisfaction, neglecting the significance of embodied factors, such as physical conditions. To bridge this research gap, the present study adopts an embodied framework to comprehensively evaluate the quality of tourism experiences at these destinations. Drawing on the theoretical foundations of embodiment, an original evaluation index system is developed, encompassing dimensions of physicality, perception, and situational factors. Objective online reviews and subjective interviews are collected from the Yundong Library case study in Haikou City and transformed into numerical scores. The findings reveal that tourists’ physical experiences are hindered by constraints, such as restrictive age policies. Additionally, sensory engagement and active participation receive relatively low scores, indicating areas for improvement. While the perception of distinctive scenic attributes is positive, reception conditions, including dining and transportation, receive below-average ratings. By incorporating physical aspects into the evaluation, a more holistic assessment is achieved compared to conventional approaches. The standardized evaluation system provides destination managers with practical insights and a data-driven approach to benchmark strategies and enhance the quality of experiences over time. This study extends existing frameworks and underscores the importance of incorporating the embodied perspective in understanding and perpetuating experiences that hold essential value for the tourism industry.

The outcrop of the Middle Ordovician (Darriwilian stage) and Upper Devonian (Frasnian stage) Yakhnovo as a unique geological feature in the East of the Main Devonian Field

Tsinkoburova M. G., Smirnov D. M., Baranovskaya M. L.

At present, within the Baltic-Ladoga structural-facies zone characterized by the distribution of coastal-marine and coastal-continental deposits of the Lower and Middle Frasnian outcrops of bedrock are practically lost. In the Yakhnovo outcrop, rocks of the Volkhov Formation (Darriwilian), as well as the Vazhinskaya and Syasinskaya Formations (Lower Frasnian) are exposed. The rocks of the Volkhov Formation contain a complex of soft-bottom ichnofossils with the dominant ichnogenus Thalassinoides Ehrenberg, characteristic of the sublittoral environment above the base of storm waves and below the base of normal waves, as well as a hardground surface with characteristic traces of Trypanites Mägdefrau drilling. Traces of Arenicolites Salter, occurring in deposits of highly dynamic shallow water zones, have been established in the rocks of the Syasinskaya Formation; a large arthropod trace was found in limestone blocks in the talus, presumably belonging to the ichnogenus Rusophycus Hall, considered as a domihnia (burrow) of arthropods. Findings of large arthropods have not previously been recorded in the Frasnian rocks of the eastern Main Devonian Field. The study has proved the historical, stratigraphic, ichnological, paleoecological, paleogeographic value of the Yakhnovo section, which is actually the only outcrop demonstrating the features of the carbonate-terrigenous section of the lower Frasnian, formed in the shallowest zone of the early Frasnian Sea.

The power of regional centrality: specialization, diversity, and their effects on regional economic growth

Seoyoung Lee, Hongbum Kim, Junseok Hwang

Abstract The transition to electric vehicles is reshaping industrial structures and regional economies, particularly in countries with strong automotive sectors. This study investigates how regional network centrality within the automotive industry affects regional economic growth, focusing on the moderating roles of industrial specialization and diversity. While regions with higher centrality are expected to benefit from denser supply-chain linkages and knowledge flows, the magnitude of this effect depends on the composition of their industrial base. Using inter-firm transaction data from 15 South Korean provinces between 2008 and 2021, regional centrality is derived from social network analysis using degree centrality. Industrial specialization and diversity are measured to reflect the structural composition of regional industries. Panel regressions are employed to assess both the direct and interactive effects of these variables on regional economies. The results show that regional centrality has a significant positive effect on economic growth, confirming that regions occupying central positions in industrial networks achieve stronger economic performance. However, specialization and diversity weaken this positive effect, whereas a balanced interaction among the three factors enhances economic outcomes. These findings highlight the importance of network structures and industrial composition in shaping regional development dynamics. The study provides empirical evidence and policy insights for governments seeking to strengthen regional competitiveness and foster sustainable industrial transformation during technological transitions.

Improving the Climate of Organizational Work Units through Socially Constructed Performance Appraisals

Joshua Burton, Michael A. Boyd

This research study aimed to explore the socially constructed performance appraisal strategies human resource managers need to improve the organizational work unit climate. Socially constructed performance appraisal strategies advocate for the employee based on social context, societal norms, and values. The methodology used was a qualitative exploratory study that explored the experiences of fifteen human resource managers, consultants, and practitioners who had knowledge, developed, or implemented socially constructed performance appraisal processes and practices to improve the organizational work unit climate. The theoretical basis for the research study was centered on three concepts--performance appraisal, organizational work unit climate, and performance appraisal strategies---and how organizational control theory intertwined with social exchange theory related to an organization’s performance appraisal practices, which influence employees’ perceptions of accuracy, trust, and fairness. The findings show the emergence of several themes, including challenges associated with the performance appraisal process, socially constructed performance appraisal characteristics, effective strategies for improving the organizational work unit climate, assessment of a socially constructed performance appraisal process, and the importance of social exchange theory when designing and administering socially constructed performance appraisal processes. Additional examination focused on the correlation between the organizational work unit climate and organization performance before and after the application of socially constructed performance appraisal process strategies.

MRGS-LSTM: a novel multi-site wind speed prediction approach with spatio-temporal correlation

Yueguang Zhou, Xiuxiang Fan

The wind energy industry is witnessing a new era of extraordinary growth as the demand for renewable energy continues to grow. However, accurately predicting wind speed remains a significant challenge due to its high fluctuation and randomness. These difficulties hinder effective wind farm management and integration into the power grid. To address this issue, we propose the MRGS-LSTM model to improve the accuracy and reliability of wind speed prediction results, which considers the complex spatio-temporal correlations between features at multiple sites. First, mRMR-RF filters the input multidimensional meteorological variables and computes the feature subset with minimum information redundancy. Second, the feature map topology is constructed by quantifying the spatial distance distribution of the multiple sites and the maximum mutual information coefficient among the features. On this basis, the GraphSAGE framework is used to sample and aggregate the feature information of neighboring sites to extract spatial feature vectors. Then, the spatial feature vectors are input into the long short-term memory (LSTM) model after sliding window sampling. The LSTM model learns the temporal features of wind speed data to output the predicted results of the spatio-temporal correlation at each site. Finally, through the simulation experiments based on real historical data from the Roscoe Wind Farm in Texas, United States, we prove that our model MRGS-LSTM improves the performance of MAE by 15.43%–27.97% and RMSE by 12.57%–25.40% compared with other models of the same type. The experimental results verify the validity and superiority of our proposed model and provide a more reliable basis for the scheduling and optimization of wind farms.

Fatty Acid Profile of Hemp Sprouts

Nataša Đerić Ilić, Slađana Rakita, Marina Đerić et al.

Industrial hemp (<i>Cannabis sativa</i>) is used in various industries, such as food, animal feed, paper, textile, biofuel, etc. Hemp seeds intended for food production should not contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) level above 0.3%, according to Serbian legislation. Hemp seeds and their processed products, such as oil and flour, have high nutritional quality in terms of lipids, proteins, fiber, minerals, and plant secondary metabolites. The interest of society in healthy eating is rising constantly. Advice on the selection of foods which promote health includes functional food, such as sprouted seeds. Since hemp seed is rich in phytochemicals, it is assumed that their sprouts will be more nutrient-dense. Although sprouted seeds of many crops, such as legumes, cereals, pseudo-cereals, oilseeds, and vegetables are included in a healthy diet, hemp seed sprouting is barely studied. Therefore, the aim of this research was to determine the fatty acid profile of hemp sprouts harvested after seven days of germination which are ready for consumption. The majority of fatty acids in sprouts are polyunsaturated fatty acids (67.7%) comprising linoleic and α-linolenic acids. Sprouts are less abundant in oleic acid, monounsaturated fatty acid (10.5%), followed by saturated fatty acids (21.8%), with the highest content in palmitic acid. As it was expected, the fatty acid composition of seeds and sprouts is similar.

Data-Driven Cooperative Control Model of Shearer-Scraper Conveyor Based on Rough Set Theory

Shuanfeng Zhao, Jiaojiao Zhao, Jiaojiao Zhao et al.

The cooperative control of shearer and scraper conveyors is the prerequisite for the realization of intelligent comprehensive mining equipment and unmanned comprehensive mining workings. However, because of the harsh working face environment, the complex process of comprehensive mining, and the many uncertainties, it is difficult to establish a mathematical model for the cooperative control of shearer and scraper conveyors precisely through the operating mechanism. In the era of big data, the data-driven model has become a popular trend. Therefore, according to the actual production process data, this article proposed a data-driven cooperative control model of shearer–scraper conveyor based on rough set theory. First, the selection method of process monitoring parameters based on rough set theory was proposed to remove redundant parameters and redundant parameter values. Moreover, the decision rule base of cooperative speed regulation of shearer and scraper conveyor was established. Then a collaborative speed regulation decision algorithm based on attribute importance was designed. The algorithm matches the decision rules according to the real-time observation data and then determines the running speed of the shearer. The simulation results show that the proposed data-driven collaborative control model of shearer–scraper conveyor based on rough set theory overcomes the limitations of the mathematical model. It can predict the running speed of shearer well and realize the collaborative speed regulation of shearer–scraper conveyor.

Amazonia brasileña: ocupación y políticas socioambientales

Raimunda Nonata Monteiro, Enaile do Espírito Santo Iadanza, Helena Maria Martins Lastres

The Civic Scale: Strategies of Emplacement in Dambudzo Marechera and Ivan Vladislavić

Liam Kruger

This paper identifies and intervenes in the problems posed by reading postcolonial texts as representative, or encompassing of, the nation with which they are associated. Alternatively, it proposes that reading at the scale of the city offers a method for circumventing the elision of particularity which occurs when the nation, continent or globe are foregrounded in Western or Western-facing responses to these texts. The paper models what such a &#8220;scaled-down&#8221; reading might look like, attending to Dambudzo Marechera&#8217;s <i>House of Hunger</i> (1978) and Ivan Vladislavic&#8217;s <i>Portrait With Keys: Joburg and What-What</i> (2006), and their intricate relationships to the urban spaces of Harare and Johannesburg, respectively. At stake in these analyses are opportunities to identify what Jacques Ranci&#232;re terms dissensus, or political contestation, rendered in spatial terms. This establishes a pliable counterdiscourse of the city which seeks and discerns meaning not through consensus or &#8220;sanctioned representation&#8221;; but through the complexities of affective attachments, the plurality of experiences, and the teeming heterogeneity of physical and literary spaces that have been previously flattened.
