Robust Localization in Modern Cellular Networks Using Global Map Features

Junshi Chen, Xuhong Li, Russ Whiton et al.

Radio frequency (RF) signal-based localization using modern cellular networks has emerged as a promising solution to accurately locate objects in challenging environments. One of the most promising solutions for situations involving obstructed-line-of-sight (OLoS) and multipath propagation is multipath-based simultaneous localization and mapping (MP-SLAM) that employs map features (MFs), such as virtual anchors. This paper presents an extended MP-SLAM method that is augmented with a global map feature (GMF) repository. This repository stores consistent MFs of high quality that are collected during prior traversals. We integrate these GMFs back into the MP-SLAM framework via a probability hypothesis density (PHD) filter, which propagates GMF intensity functions over time. Extensive simulations, together with a challenging real-world experiment using LTE RF signals in a dense urban scenario with severe multipath propagation and inter-cell interference, demonstrate that our framework achieves robust and accurate localization, thereby showcasing its effectiveness in realistic modern cellular networks such as 5G or future 6G networks. It outperforms conventional proprioceptive sensor-based localization and conventional MP-SLAM methods, and achieves reliable localization even under adverse signal conditions.

Abstract Traditional medicine (TM) has been a cornerstone of healthcare across various cultures, especially in Africa, where it has played an integral role in the management of diseases such as malaria. Despite the popularity and historical significance of TM, scientific validation remains a key challenge, hindering its widespread acceptance in modern healthcare systems. This study explores the potential of traditional African medicine, particularly in the context of Nigeria, as a vital resource in the fight against malaria. Drawing on the success of plants like Artemisia annua in the development of modern anti-malarial drugs, the research emphasizes the need for comprehensive investment in TM research. With Nigeria facing the highest malaria burden globally, the research advocates for increased funding, scientific investigations into the efficacy of traditional remedies, and enhanced regulation of herbal medicine. The paper also highlights the growing trust and reliance on herbal remedies in rural areas of Nigeria and the importance of ensuring their safety through pharmacological testing. This study examines these issues through an analysis of existing literature, historical applications, and documented successes of herbal treatments. By integrating traditional medicine into national health systems, Nigeria could unlock new strategies for combating malaria and other infectious diseases, advancing toward sustainable health outcomes.

The category of «citizenship» as a pedagogical problem

O. E. Sirotkin

The problem of citizenship of the population has been one of the main problems of civilized countries for a number of centuries. In modern geopolitical conditions in the Russian Federation this problem has acquired a special scientific and pedagogical status, which is supported by a number of legislative and public initiatives. The implementation of the strategy outlined by the state for the formation of citizenship among the younger generation will be facilitated by a complex of pedagogical influences in different educational environments. This circumstance has made it possible to formulate a scientific problem, which consists in the need for a theoretical substantiation of the definition of «citizenship» as a pedagogical category. The purpose of the research is to theoretically substantiate the essence of the category «citizenship» as a subject of pedagogical discourse based on the ideas of humanitarian knowledge. To achieve this goal, the following methods have been used: analysis of scientific literature and regulatory documents, generalization, synthesis, logical modeling. The research results: scientific facts have been identified that reflect the features of approaches to substantiating the category of «citizenship»; the components of citizenship as a pedagogical category have been substantiated; the high significance of the pedagogical approach in comparison with existing approaches in the interpretation of the category under consideration has been proven.Key conclusions: «citizenship» has a diverse interpretation in modern humanitarian knowledge, most extrapolated in sociological and pedagogical research; the structural components of citizenship as a pedagogical category are cognitive, emotional, motivational-need, activity-based, and the result of its formation in young people is civic maturity. The system-forming factor in substantiating the concept of citizenship is the pedagogical approach, which forms the foundation of the substantiation, because lays down the vector and mechanisms for its formation in all institutions of socialization of the individual at all levels of education.

Classification mechanisms for digitalized information in web application development, taking into account cloud server deployment trends

Zh. Tyturenko, I. Zinchenko, O. Olshevska et al.

With the transition from natural to virtual communication, there are new technologies for presenting information, the perception of which depends on its presentation by modern multimedia. Visual perception plays an important role in everyday life, helping in learning and communicating with other people. Behind the most effective perception is a complex process of understanding the information obtained. Visual perception of information includes the processes of seeing and reading. Building assumptions on what we see, we rely on expectations, beliefs, past knowledge and previous experience. Reading is a complex activity that involves both the process of perception and thought. At the very beginning of the formation of reading, understanding is not common, but only after perception, as the development and automation of reading skills, understanding begins to outpace the process of perception, manifested in the emergence of semantic assumptions, guessing meaning within words. Perception of visual image is accompanied by the actualization of its auditory-motor image, without which it is impossible to recognize. Reading is accompanied by inner speech. The same information can be understood by different people with different degrees of depth, which entails the existence of factors that affect the process of perception and understanding of texts. Such factors can be divided into the following groups: characteristics of the individual who acts as a subject of perception and understanding; parameters of the text and the reality that is reflected in this text; features of the situation in which the process of perception and understanding takes place. Text in a virtual environment, ie media information - is more accurately and quickly perceived by a person and it depends on various factors influencing perception, as well as the type and method of presenting information. The purpose of the study is to analyze the perception of digitalized information, the formation of recommendations for professionals with UI / UX, which will be further formed into a prototype of a possible web directory. The aim is also to develop a possible tool model that can be used not only by the above specialists, but also by SMM-managers, business analysts and others. The methods of research were chosen analysis - the study of individual parts of the objects of study, comparing different approaches or their individual components to obtain a holistic picture of the subject area.

Domestic Organic Rankine Cycle-Based Cogeneration Systems as a Way to Reduce Dust Emissions in Municipal Heating

Piotr Kolasiński

Environmental issues are nowadays of great importance. In particular air and water quality should be kept at as high levels as possible. Energy conversion systems and devices which are applied for converting the chemical energy contained in different fuels into heat, electricity and cold in the industry and housing are sources of different gases and solid particle emissions. Medical data show PM2.5 dust in particular is highly dangerous for human health. Therefore, limiting the number of low-quality fuel combustion processes is a key issue of modern energy policy. Statistical data show that domestic heating systems account for a large share of the total emissions of PM2.5 and PM10 dust. For example in Poland in 2017, the share of households in the total annual emissions of PM2.5 dust was equal to ca. 35.8%, while the share of PM2.5 emission in industry (i.e., power generating plants, industrial power plants and technologies) was equal to only 23.6%. A possible way of solving this problem is by the successful replacement of old domestic furnaces by combined heat and power (CHP) or multigeneration boilers which can be used for heating the rooms and sanitary water and generating electricity and cold. Such systems can possibly contribute in the future to significant reductions of dust emissions and air pollution in urban and rural areas by limiting the number of low-quality fuel combustion processes. This article presents design considerations and experimental results related to a domestic micro-CHP unit which is based on organic Rankine cycle (ORC) technology. The main aim of the design works and experiments was therefore the analysis of the possibility of integrating the ORC system with a standard domestic central heating gas-fired boiler. The specially designed micro-ORC system was implemented in the laboratory and experiments were performed using this test stand. The main design aims of the test-stand were: low operating pressure, small working fluid flow, low price and compact dimensions. To meet these aims, volumetric machines were chosen as the expander and working fluid pump. The experimental results were positive and show that it is possible to integrate an ORC system with a standard domestic central heating gas boiler. For different heat source temperatures, the obtained expander power ranged from 109 W to 241 W and the thermodynamic cycle efficiency ranged from 4.3% to 8.8%. These positive research results were achieved partly thanks to the positive features of the different system subassemblies.

Without Leon, Spain would never have existed. History, religion and propaganda in an Early Modern city

Alfredo MARTÍN GARCÍA

The aim of this study was to analyse print production in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries in order to elucidate an intentional strategy on the part of the political and religious authorities in the city of León aimed at disseminating an idealised vision of its past, in the context of the development of local history in Early Modern Spain. The religious authorities sought to vindicate the antiquity of the Church in León by portraying it in the distant times of Roman persecution. Meanwhile, the political authorities aimed to consolidate the idea of León as the origin of the Catholic Monarchy, depicting the mediaeval León monarchs as responsible for the future glories of the Crown. These images were propagated not only through the medium of print, but also through the annual calendar of religious and civic holidays.

In many cases, studies on the Espill of Jaume Roig focused exclusively on the misogynist aspects of the work, which has prevented further other aspects that, maybe, may alleviate this burden. That is why we propose, first, to locate the Valencian author on the new theoretical paradigm of scholastic education, and secondly, check the extent to which knowledge of the theoretical training, present in the Espill: that will contribute or not to rreading the work less connoted.

Achille le bel (1847-1930), un chimiste innovant tenu à l’écart par ses pairs

Gérard Emptoz

The history of chemistry records that two chemists, the Frenchman Achille Le Bel and the Dutchman Jacobus Van't Hoff (1852-1911), were the co-founders of modern stereochemistry for having proposed the theory of molecular asymmetry separately and without any consultation in 1874. Fourteen years after his discovery, Le Bel decided to seek the recognition of his French colleagues by applying to the Académie des Sciences, and thus obtain a deserved reputation. For his part, Van't Hoff received the fruits of his discovery by obtaining professorships at major universities in Amsterdam and Charlottenburg, and the first Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1901. For Le Bel, after eight unsuccessful applications to the Institute, the term 'rejected' may be applied. The weight of the networks in place in the scientific institutions of the time and also clashes within the French chemists contributed to these failures. When he was finally elected in 1929, Le Bel bore the brunt of the tensions within the national scientific world.

The article discusses the need for inter-agency work to minimize the extremist-terrorist activities in the community. The problem of the psychology of extremism and terrorism are increasingly in the spotlight representatives of various scientific disciplines. First of all, there is no single legal science in all respects understanding of phenomena such as extremism and terrorism, their classification and evaluation, although a number of positive examples in this respect international cooperation is present. According to current data provided by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as the Moscow Bureau for Human Rights, extremism is a real threat to the national security of the Russian Federation. From the data of law enforcement should be the fact that most of the crimes of extremist and terrorist nature committed by persons of young age, the consciousness of which are susceptible to nationalist propaganda. A significant increase in informal youth movements extremist-nationalist orientation. The problem of expansion of extremism is also relevant for the penitentiary system of modern society. The very fact that a significant number of prisoners serving sentences for extremism and terrorism, illustrates the need for them special psychological and educational work
