The Clifford Theory for Modular Representations of Finite Groups

Devjani Basu

Clifford theory establishes a relation between the representation theory of a finite group and its normal subgroups. In this paper, we establish the Clifford theory for the modular representations of finite groups. The proofs are based on an explicit analysis of the representation spaces and their decompositions. We also analyze the relation between the modular representations of $SL_2(\mathbb{F}_p)$ in defining characteristic, with that of $GL_2(\mathbb{F}_p)$ using the modular Clifford theory.

Representations of Cyclic Diagram Monoids

Jason Liu

We introduce cyclic diagram monoids, a generalisation of classical diagram monoids that adds elements of arbitrary period by including internal components, with a view towards cryptography. We classify their simple representations and compute their dimensions in terms of the underlying diagram algebra. These go towards showing that cyclic diagram monoids possess representation gaps of exponential growth, which quantify their resistance as platforms against linear attacks on cryptographic protocols that exploit small dimensional representations.

Completely-decomposable subcategories of quiver representations

Yariana Diaz

When filtering a topological space by a single parameter, the theory of quiver representations provides a complete framework for decomposing the resulting persistence module to obtain its barcode. This is achieved by interpreting the persistence module as a representation of a Type $\mathbb{A}_n$ quiver. The complexity increases significantly when filtering by two or more parameters. In particular, multi-parameter persistence typically yields tame or wild type quivers whose indecomposable representations are more complicated to describe and for which arbitrary representations are much more difficult to decompose. The theme of this work is to provide a framework for restricting to subcategories of quiver representations whose objects can be distinguished from one another through computational means.

Statistics for random representations of Lie algebras

Walter Bridges, Kathrin Bringmann, Caner Nazaroglu

In this paper we investigate how a typical, large-dimensional representation looks for a complex Lie algebra. In particular, we study the family $\mathfrak{sl}_{r+1}(\mathbb{C})$ of Lie algebras for $r \geq 2$ and derive asymptotic probability distributions for the multiplicity of small irreducible representations, as well as the largest dimension, the largest height, and the total number of irreducible representations appearing in the decomposition of a representation sampled uniformly from all representations with the same dimension. This provides a natural generalization to the similar statistical studies of integer partitions, which forms the case $r=1$ of our considerations and where one has a rich toolkit ranging from combinatorial methods to approaches utilizing the theory of modular forms. We perform our analysis by extending the statistical mechanics inspired approaches in the case of partitions to the infinite family here.

Potent categorical representations

David Ben-Zvi, David Nadler

We introduce and motivate -- based on ongoing joint work with Germán Stefanich -- the notion of potent categorical representations of a complex reductive group $G$, specifically a conjectural Langlands correspondence identifying potent categorical representations of $G$ and its Langlands dual $\check G$. We emphasize the symplectic nature of potent categorical representations in their simultaneous dependence on parameters in maximal tori for $G$ and $\check G$, specifically how their conjectural Langlands correspondence fits within a 2-categorical Fourier transform. Our key tool to make various ideas precise is higher sheaf theory and its microlocalization, specifically a theory of ind-coherent sheaves of categories on stacks. The constructions are inspired by the physics of 3d mirror symmetry and S-duality on the one hand, and the theory of double affine Hecke algebras on the other. We also highlight further conjectures related to ongoing programs in and around geometric representation theory.

The Brazilian Contemporary Dance Scene of the Periferia

Maria Claudia Alves Guimarães

The aim of this article is to discuss the recent changes in scenic dance in Brazil. Until the beginning of the 2000s, scenic dance was primarily practiced by middle class white dancers, whereas more recently there is a greater representation of Afro-Brazilians and socially less privileged people who come from the outskirts of cities (periferia). The author argues that this change of paradigm is happening due to cultural policies implemented by local governments, as they attempted to provide entertaining and creative activities to help diminish violence in large urban centers, starting in the 1990s. Since these cultural policies have been developing and increasing during the last twenty years, and taking into consideration the issues of decolonialization present in the broader panorama of Latin America, this article’s goal is to discuss the growing presence of artists and dance collectives addressing ethnic and social issues in their work in an attempt to challenge established hegemonic values. In order to accomplish this task, the author refers to social theories related to decolonialization and marginalized communities of the periphery as established by various theoreticians, including Frantz Fanon, Milton Santos, Stuart Hall, Boaventura de Souza Santos, Walter Mignolo, and Anibal Quijano.

Expander representations of quivers

Markus Reineke

We propose a definition of expander representations of quivers, generalizing dimension (or linear algebra) expanders, as a qualitative refinement of slope stability. We prove existence of uniform expander representations for any wild quiver over an algebraically closed base field, using the concept of general subrepresentations and spectral properties of Cartan matrices.

Matrices for finite group representations that respect Galois automorphisms

David J. Benson

We are given a finite group $H$, an automorphism $τ$ of $H$ of order $r$, a Galois extension $L/K$ of fields of characteristic zero with cyclic Galois group $\langleσ\rangle$ of order $r$, and an absolutely irreducible representation $ρ\colon H\to\operatorname{\sf GL}(n,L)$ such that the action of $τ$ on the character of $ρ$ is the same as the action of $σ$. Then the following are equivalent. $\bullet$ $ρ$ is equivalent to a representation $ρ'\colon H\to\operatorname{\sf GL}(n,L)$ such that the action of $σ$ on the entries of the matrices corresponds to the action of $τ$ on $H$, and $\bullet$ the induced representation $\operatorname{\sf ind}_{H,H\rtimes\langleτ\rangle}(ρ)$ has Schur index one; that is, it is similar to a representation over $K$. As examples, we discuss a three dimensional irreducible representation of $A_5$ over $\mathbb{Q}[\sqrt5]$ and a four dimensional irreducible representation of the double cover of $A_7$ over $\mathbb{Q}[\sqrt{-7}]$.

On representations of the Lie superalgebra p(n)

Vera Serganova

We introduce a new way to study representations of the Lie superalgebra $p(n)$. Since the center of the universal enveloping algebra $U$ acts trivially on all irreducible representations, we suggest to study the quotient algebra $\bar{U}$ by the radical of $U$. We show that $\bar{U}$ has a large center which separates typical finite dimensional irreducible representations. We give a description of $\bar{U}$ factored by a generic central character. Using this description we obtain character formulae of generic (infinite-dimensional) irreducible representations. We also describe some geometric properties of the supervariety $Spec Gr \bar{U}$ in the coadjoint representation.

On the cohomology based on the generalized representations of $n$-Lie Algebras

Afi Maha, Sania Asif, Chouaibi Sami et al.

In the present paper, we define the new class of representation on $n$-Lie algebra that is called as generalized representation. We study the cohomology theory corresponding to generalized representations of $n$-Lie algebras and show its relation with the cohomology corresponding to the usual representations. Furthermore, we provide the computation for the low dimensional cocycles.

Posybilizm metafzyczny w filmie i serialu najnowszym

Jan Biedny

The article focuses on the reading of Waldemar Frąc’s film theory in the context of the newest film examples. In the first part, the author presents the most important features of the “possible cinema” and expands it with a philosophical possible worlds theory, and also gives the context of mind-game films. In the second part, the author proposes an interpretation of two films: Annihilation and Arrival, and the Dark series in the face of the presented theoretical solutions. The main point of the analysis is to show how the worlds presented in the given films exist, how the concept of possibility/the possible world is manifested, and what changes occur at the level of the film narrative itself. Interpretation of the film examples leads the author to the conclusion that metaphysical possibilism in the film and series reveals not only ontological themes, but also has significant intercultural value and moves existential reflection.

O RELATO BORDEJANTE DO REAL TRAUMÁTICO DA GUERRA EM CAMPO MINADO, DE LOLA ARIAS: SILÊNCIOS, PAUSAS E A RECUSA A REPRESENTAR A TORTURA

Giorgio Zimann Gislon

Representations of Coxeter groups and homology of Coxeter graphs

Hongsheng Hu

We classify a class of complex representations of an arbitrary Coxeter group via characters of the integral homology of certain graphs. Such representations can be viewed as a generalization of the geometric representation and correspond to the second-highest 2-sided cell in the sense of Kazhdan-Lusztig. We also give a description of the cell representation provided by this 2-sided cell, and find out all its simple quotients for simply laced Coxeter system with no more than one circuit in the Coxeter graph.

On branching laws of Speh representations

Nozomi Ito

In this paper, we consider the branching law of the Speh representation $\mathrm{Sp}(π,n+l)$ of $\mathrm{GL}_{2n+2l}$ with respect to the block diagonal subgroup $\mathrm{GL}_n\times\mathrm{GL}_{n+2l}$ for any irreducible generic representation $π$ of $\mathrm{GL}_2$ over any $p$-adic field. We use the Shalika model of $\mathrm{Sp}(π,n)$ to construct certain zeta integrals, which were defined by Ginzburg and Kaplan independently, and study them. Finally, using these zeta integrals, we obtain a nonzero $\mathrm{GL}_n\times\mathrm{GL}_{n+2l}$-map from $\mathrm{Sp}(π,n+l)$ to $τ\boxtimesτ^\veeχ_π\times\mathrm{Sp}(π, l)$ for any irreducible representation $τ$ of $\mathrm{GL}_n$. These results form part of the local theory of the Miyawaki lifting for unitary groups.

Representations of the orthosymplectic Yangian

A. I. Molev

We give a complete description of the finite-dimensional irreducible representations of the Yangian associated with the orthosymplectic Lie superalgebra $\frak{osp}_{1|2}$. The representations are parameterized by monic polynomials in one variable, they are classified in terms of highest weights. We give explicit constructions of a family of elementary modules of the Yangian and show that a wide class of irreducible representations can be produced by taking tensor products of the elementary modules.
