The Current State of Business Intelligence

H. Watson, B. Wixom

Business intelligence (BI) is now widely used, especially in the world of practice, to describe analytic applications. BI is currently the top-most priority of many chief information officers. BI has become a strategic initiative and is now recognized by CIOs and business leaders as instrumental in driving business effectiveness and innovation. BI is a process that includes two primary activities: getting data in and getting data out. Getting data in, traditionally referred to as data warehousing, involves moving data from a set of source systems into an integrated data warehouse. Getting data in delivers limited value to an enterprise; only when users and applications access the data and use it to make decisions does the organization realize the full value from its data warehouse. Thus, getting data out receives most attention from organizations. This second activity, which is commonly referred to as BI, consists of business users and applications accessing data from the data warehouse to perform enterprise reporting, OLAP, querying, and predictive analytics.

How Technology Characteristics and Social Factors Shape Consumer Behavior in Artificial Intelligence-Powered Fashion Curation Platforms

Dayun Jeong

The rapid evolution of technology characteristics has significantly influenced various sectors, including fashion, in which technology-enabled platforms have increasingly been utilized to enhance personalization and consumer engagement. This study investigates the effect of these characteristics on consumer behavior within fashion curation platforms. Integrating the task–technology fit and the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology models, this study examines key constructs using structural equation modeling. Data were collected via a week-long survey of 300 Korean consumers using fashion curation platforms. The findings reveal that technology characteristics exert a significant influence on task–technology fit and effort expectancy. Additionally, hedonic motivation, social influence, and facilitating conditions were pivotal in shaping behavioral intention. The novelty of this work lies in the fact that it extends the integrated model framework to a fashion curation context to offer a more nuanced understanding. Moreover, the findings provide practical insights for optimizing technology-enabled fashion platforms to boost user adoption and engagement.

Business model innovation in entrepreneurship

S. Trimi, J. Berbegal‐Mirabent

The goal of this paper is to advance the understanding of emerging developments in business model design within the field of entrepreneurship. It is widely known that during the start-up process, entrepreneurs need to set up the boundaries of the business and define the product/service to offer. This is a very complex task, especially for new technology-based companies which usually require large investments and have a limited time span (avoiding product obsolescence) to turn the idea into a full-time venture. Although business model design within the entrepreneurship field is a recent topic, it is gaining a growing attention in the literature. The usefulness and predictable power of business models are expected to help entrepreneurs make more informed decisions, thus increasing the chances of success. This article first tackles the specific problems faced by new technology-based firms, linking their needs with the advantages of having a flexible and well-designed business model. Second, different innovative practices aimed at improving business model design are discussed. The paper ends with some recommendations, stressing the need for future empirical work.
