Rapid event extraction and tensorial event adaption: Libraries for efficient access and generic reweighting of parton-level events and their implementation in the MadtRex module

Stefan Roiser, Robert Schöfbeck, Zenny Wettersten

We present Rex and teaRex, C++17 libraries for efficient management of parton-level hard scattering event information and completely generic reweighting of such events, respectively. Rex is primarily an interfacing and I/O library for Les Houches Event format files and provides an internal event format designed with data parallelism in mind, and teaRex extends this format to provide full parton-level reweighting functionality with minimal code needing to be written by the end user. These libraries serve as the foundation for the MadtRex reweighting module for MadGraph5_aMC@NLO, extending the functionality of the CUDACPP plugin to allow for data-parallel model-generic leading order parameter reweighting on SIMD-enabled CPUs and SIMT GPUs, speeding up reweighting by more than two orders of magnitude compared to MadGraph5_aMC@NLO running on the exact same hardware while providing trivial scalability to larger and distributed systems.

Influence of ion motion in a resonantly driven wakefield accelerator

Erwin Walter, John P. Farmer, Marlene Turner et al.

Several different schemes for plasma wakefield acceleration using a train of drivers have been pursued, based on the resonant excitation of a plasma wave. Since these schemes rely on the plasma electron wave surviving for many periods, the motion of the plasma ions can have a significant impact on the beam--plasma interaction. In this work, simulations are used to study the impact of this ion motion on the development of the self-modulation of a long beam, directly applicable to recent experiments. It is shown that two related but distinct effects contribute to the suppression of the wakefield excitation: the loss of resonance between the drive beam and the plasma wave it excites, and phase mixing due to transverse wavebreaking. Although only the latter has previously been investigated, we show that the two effects follow the same scaling with ion mass.

Positron Channeling in Quasi-Mosaic Bent Crystals: Atomistic Simulations vs. Experiment

Maykel Marquez-Mijares, German Rojas-Lorenzo, Paulo E. Ibanez-Almaguer et al.

This paper reports on a comprehensive study of an ultra-relativistic positron beam deflection by an oriented quasi-mosaic crystal. The analysis was carried out for the positron energy of 530 MeV incident on the quasi-mosaic bent Si(111) crystal. This particular case was chosen because it has recently been studied experimentally at the Mainz Microtron MAMI. The results of the relativistic molecular dynamics simulations were compared with the experimental observations and a good agreement was found. The presence of planar channeling, de-channeling, volume reflection and volume capture processes in the angular distribution of deflected positrons for different beam-crystal alignments has been studied. Predictions have been made for certain crystal orientations for which experimental data are lacking.

Hosing of a long relativistic particle bunch in plasma

T. Nechaeva, L. Verra, J. Pucek et al.

Experimental results show that hosing of a long particle bunch in plasma can be induced by wakefields driven by a short, misaligned preceding bunch. Hosing develops in the plane of misalignment, self-modulation in the perpendicular plane, at frequencies close to the plasma electron frequency, and are reproducible. Development of hosing depends on misalignment direction, its growth on misalignment extent and on proton bunch charge. Results have the main characteristics of a theoretical model, are relevant to other plasma-based accelerators and represent the first characterization of hosing.
