Climate rights: a spatial framework for environmental action
Nabil Ahmed, Oskar Johanson
In a rapidly warming world, civil society is increasingly turning to courts to pursue climate justice and land rights. Against the background of this “rights turn,” this article explores the intersections of legal processes, artistic research, and policy frameworks and their repercussions for exposing environmental destruction and ecocide in legal contexts. We consider how artists have engaged with law by proposing alternative forums as a form of institutional critique and the rise of artistic research as investigative practice, before arguing that new investigative methodologies and spatial frameworks are urgently needed to pursue climate justice through the courts. By way of example, we introduce the “Climate Rights” project, which demonstrates how arts-driven visual and spatial analysis and participatory methods can be put to work in assisting frontline communities–most recently, in cases fighting “green colonialism” in Sápmi. In contextualising this work, we point to how the climate-culture-policy nexus of the green transition in Europe might actually undermine the territorial and cultural rights of minority and Indigenous communities. Our position is to advocate for collective work, as well as progressive climate policies, that will prioritises environmental justice over the neoliberalisation of nature and ensure accountability for climate action.

Relationship Restoration and Community-Based Income: Towards Sustainable Societies
Robin Krabbe
Two defining features of our age are a psychosocial crisis and an ecological crisis. Addressing the former may be the key to addressing the latter. One concept that appears to contribute to our psychosocial crisis is psychological woundedness. This paper highlights intergenerational emotional neglect as a major source of woundedness and contends that healing from emotional neglect is almost impossible to achieve without help from others. Relationship restoration is identified as a key aspect of improving the human condition towards a partnership society and away from domination, a crucial challenge to addressing our ecological and psychosocial crises. Community-based income (CBI) aims to build the skills to heal emotional neglect and create relational and restorative communities based on a social investment approach, particularly long-term investment in people. CBI is a model in which participants are paid an income for any activity the community deems eligible, such as caring for people of all ages, study, work experience, and/or helping with community projects. CBI aims to build restorative and compassionate communities, based initially on addressing woundedness.

Corporate Finance in the Age of Fintech: Scenarios and Challenges
Nicola Borri
Blockchain is a technological innovation that has the potential to radically change our financial markets by providing an alternative management approach to the "promise market", which is the foundation of our financial systems. Its disruptive potential also extends to corporate finance, where blockchain is beginning to influence valuation methods and capital allocation strategies, offering new perspectives on how companies are assessed and financed. However, for a new financial architecture based on blockchain and advancements in technology -- what is commonly referred to as Fintech -- to replace, in whole or in part, traditional finance, it will need to overcome significant challenges such as regulation, environmental sustainability, its association with illegal activities, and achieving greater efficiency in cryptocurrency markets. For this reason, the future of Fintech is likely to be more conventional -- yet also more transparent, efficient, and regulated -- ultimately evolving to resemble the traditional finance we know.
Digital Transformation and Corporate Financial Asset Allocation: Evidence from China
Yundan Guo, Han Liang, Li Shen
Against the backdrop of rapid technological advancement and the deepening digital economy, this study examines the causal impact of digital transformation on corporate financial asset allocation in China. Using data from A-share listed companies from 2010 to 2022, we construct a firm-level digitalization index based on text analysis of annual reports and differentiate financial asset allocation into long-term and short-term dimensions. Employing fixed-effects models and a staggered difference-in-differences (DID) design, we find that digital transformation significantly promotes corporate financial asset allocation, with a more pronounced effect on short-term than long-term allocations. Mechanism analyses reveal that digitalization operates through dual channels: broadening investment avenues and enhancing information processing capabilities. Specifically, it enables firms to allocate long-term high-yield financial instruments, thereby optimizing the maturity structure of assets, while also improving information efficiency, curbing inefficient investments, and reallocating capital toward more productive financial assets. Heterogeneity analysis indicates that firms in non-eastern regions, state-owned enterprises, and larger firms are more responsive in short-term allocation, whereas eastern regions, non-state-owned enterprises, and small and medium-sized enterprises benefit more in long-term allocation. Our findings provide micro-level evidence and mechanistic insights into how digital transformation reshapes corporate financial decision-making, offering important implications for both policymakers and firms.
Identity-Aware Large Language Models require Cultural Reasoning
Alistair Plum, Anne-Marie Lutgen, Christoph Purschke
et al.
Large language models have become the latest trend in natural language processing, heavily featuring in the digital tools we use every day. However, their replies often reflect a narrow cultural viewpoint that overlooks the diversity of global users. This missing capability could be referred to as cultural reasoning, which we define here as the capacity of a model to recognise culture-specific knowledge values and social norms, and to adjust its output so that it aligns with the expectations of individual users. Because culture shapes interpretation, emotional resonance, and acceptable behaviour, cultural reasoning is essential for identity-aware AI. When this capacity is limited or absent, models can sustain stereotypes, ignore minority perspectives, erode trust, and perpetuate hate. Recent empirical studies strongly suggest that current models default to Western norms when judging moral dilemmas, interpreting idioms, or offering advice, and that fine-tuning on survey data only partly reduces this tendency. The present evaluation methods mainly report static accuracy scores and thus fail to capture adaptive reasoning in context. Although broader datasets can help, they cannot alone ensure genuine cultural competence. Therefore, we argue that cultural reasoning must be treated as a foundational capability alongside factual accuracy and linguistic coherence. By clarifying the concept and outlining initial directions for its assessment, a foundation is laid for future systems to be able to respond with greater sensitivity to the complex fabric of human culture.
Isolating Culture Neurons in Multilingual Large Language Models
Danial Namazifard, Lukas Galke Poech
Language and culture are deeply intertwined, yet it has been unclear how and where multilingual large language models encode culture. Here, we build on an established methodology for identifying language-specific neurons to localize and isolate culture-specific neurons, carefully disentangling their overlap and interaction with language-specific neurons. To facilitate our experiments, we introduce MUREL, a curated dataset of 85.2 million tokens spanning six different cultures. Our localization and intervention experiments show that LLMs encode different cultures in distinct neuron populations, predominantly in upper layers, and that these culture neurons can be modulated largely independently of language-specific neurons or those specific to other cultures. These findings suggest that cultural knowledge and propensities in multilingual language models can be selectively isolated and edited, with implications for fairness, inclusivity, and alignment. Code and data are available at https://github.com/namazifard/Culture_Neurons.
CHOIR: A Chatbot-mediated Organizational Memory Leveraging Communication in University Research Labs
Sangwook Lee, Adnan Abbas, Yan Chen
et al.
University research labs often rely on chat-based platforms for communication and project management, where valuable knowledge surfaces but is easily lost in message streams. Documentation can preserve knowledge, but it requires ongoing maintenance and is challenging to navigate. Drawing on formative interviews that revealed organizational memory challenges in labs, we designed CHOIR, an LLM-based chatbot that supports organizational memory through four key functions: document-grounded Q\&A, Q\&A sharing for follow-up discussion, knowledge extraction from conversations, and AI-assisted document updates. We deployed CHOIR in four research labs for one month (n=21), where the lab members asked 107 questions and lab directors updated documents 38 times in the organizational memory. Our findings reveal a privacy-awareness tension: questions were asked privately, limiting directors' visibility into documentation gaps. Students often avoided contribution due to challenges in generalizing personal experiences into universal documentation. We contribute design implications for privacy-preserving awareness and supporting context-specific knowledge documentation.
Exploring Organizational Strategies in Immersive Computational Notebooks
Sungwon In, Ayush Roy, Eric Krokos
et al.
Computational notebooks, which integrate code, documentation, tags, and visualizations into a single document, have become increasingly popular for data analysis tasks. With the advent of immersive technologies, these notebooks have evolved into a new paradigm, enabling more interactive and intuitive ways to perform data analysis. An immersive computational notebook, which integrates computational notebooks within an immersive environment, significantly enhances navigation performance with embodied interactions. However, despite recognizing the significance of organizational strategies in the immersive data science process, the organizational strategies for using immersive notebooks remain largely unexplored. In response, our research aims to deepen our understanding of organizations, especially focusing on spatial structures for computational notebooks, and to examine how various execution orders can be visualized in an immersive context. Through an exploratory user study, we found participants preferred organizing notebooks in half-cylindrical structures and engaged significantly more in non-linear analysis. Notably, as the scale of the notebooks increased (i.e., more code cells), users increasingly adopted multiple, concurrent non-linear analytical approaches.
Evolution of the Classical Leadership Styles in a Digital Environment
Iliya Lindov
Abstract This study explores the evolution and the applicability of the classical leadership theories in the context of digital and virtual environments, focusing on six prominent frameworks: Trait, Behavioural, Situational, Transactional, Transformational, and Charismatic leadership theories. The current literature indicates that traditional leadership models, characterized by hierarchical structures and top-down communication, are evolving in response to the digital environment. This shift emphasizes agile, inclusive, and collaborative leadership styles, where leaders engage teams democratically, fostering participation and valuing diverse perspectives. The digital era necessitates that leaders not only manage change but actively drive it, promoting a culture of continuous innovation and adaptability. Consequently, the leadership approaches are transitioning from authoritative to more responsive and participative models, aligning with the dynamic demands of the digital landscape. Through a mixed-methods approach, combining a quantitative survey of 381 employees across multinational organizations, and qualitative interviews with 22 team members, the research examines how these styles influence employee engagement and effectiveness. The findings reveal that Transactional leadership is the most effective in enhancing both engagement and effectiveness, particularly when paired with relationship-oriented Behavioural styles. Conversely, Trait and Transformational leadership exhibit negative correlations with performance metrics, while Situational and Charismatic styles show minimal impact. The analysis also highlights the potential of multi-theory approaches, with combinations like ”Behavioural and Transactional”, and ” Behavioural, Transactional, and Transformational”, emerging as particularly impactful. Qualitative insights further underscore the value of integrating contemporary paradigms, such as Emotional Intelligence-based, Authentic, Servant, and Distributed leadership, to address the unique challenges of virtual teams. These styles enhance morale, trust-building, and shared responsibility, offering a nuanced and adaptive framework for leadership in digital workplaces. The study concludes by emphasizing the need for further exploration into hybrid leadership models to better align with the complexities of the modern organizational dynamics in the digital era.

Merging Policy and Practice: Crafting Effective Social Engineering Awareness-Raising Policies
Eliana Stavrou, Andriani Piki, Panayiotis Varnava
: Cybersecurity policies play a fundamental role in fostering organizational cyber governance and cyber resilience. Cybersecurity awareness-raising and training policies specify upskilling requirements and explicitly address persistent threats such as social engineering attacks. While cybersecurity awareness-raising and training activities complement the objectives of security policies, challenges including stakeholder diversity, budget constraints, generic messaging and low user engagement hinder their effectiveness. For successful policy adoption it is crucial for the workforce to grasp the relevance of these policies within their work context, understand how social engineering attacks are deployed, and apply policy rules appropriately. However, existing awareness-raising and training policies often lack specificity, leading to gaps in employee engagement and behavioural change, especially regarding social engineering threats. To address these issues, the paper proposes a dedicated social engineering awareness-raising policy, guided by Merrill's Principles of Instructions. This work aims to merge policy and practice, offering tailored examples of social engineering attacks, explicitly connecting them to relevant cybersecurity policies and making the content more engaging and relevant to the workforce. This is envisioned as a cost-effective resource for organizations with a limited training budget, which can be utilized as a starting point to enhance employee awareness, engagement, and foster a stronger organizational cyber resilience culture.

A Systematic Review of Transformational Leadership's Influence on Employee Readiness for Change in Chinese Organizations
Yongli Tian, Z. Hatta
This paper explores the impact of transformational leadership on employees' readiness for change in Chinese organisations through a systematic literature review. The findings suggest that transformational leaders significantly increase employees' acceptance of organisational change through visionary motivation, intellectual inspiration, personalised care and morale boosting behaviours. The internal mechanisms of such influence include fostering a climate of trust, empowerment, and role modelling. However, China-specific cultural factors such as collectivism, respect for authority, and pursuit of harmony play an important role in moderating the relationship between transformational leadership and employees' readiness for change. At the same time, the study identifies challenges to the implementation of transformational leadership in Chinese organisations, such as traditional hierarchies and patriarchal leadership concepts. A series of strategies, including leadership development programmes, building a participatory organisational culture, and using digital platforms, are proposed to enhance the effectiveness of transformational leadership and increase employees' readiness for change. This study provides new insights into the mechanisms of transformational leadership in Chinese organisational contexts and has important theoretical and practical implications for enhancing organisational change capability.
Understanding and Addressing Workplace Incivility in Ghanaian Higher Education Institutions: An Exploratory Study
R. Kodi, Adwoa Serwaa Karkari, Monica Boateng
et al.
Over the past decade, the landscape of higher education has undergone significant transformations, marked by a shift from socially subsidized services to market-oriented models. As private sector involvement increases, economic forces, such as the expansion of international education markets and reduced government funding, have compelled tertiary institutions to seek alternative funding sources, intensifying competition. Amidst these changes, a critical concern has emerged - workplace incivility. Workplace incivility, characterized by low-intensity deviant behaviour with ambiguous intent to harm, has become a pressing issue in organizational settings, particularly within the higher education context. This study explores the various facets of workplace incivility in Ghanaian Higher Education Institutions, shedding light on its prevalence, forms, and impact on employee performance, job satisfaction, and commitment. The research aims to uncover the contributing factors, including organizational culture and leadership styles, and assess the effectiveness of existing strategies in mitigating incivility.

Deep Ensembles to Improve Uncertainty Quantification of Statistical Downscaling Models under Climate Change Conditions
Jose González-Abad, Jorge Baño-Medina
Recently, deep learning has emerged as a promising tool for statistical downscaling, the set of methods for generating high-resolution climate fields from coarse low-resolution variables. Nevertheless, their ability to generalize to climate change conditions remains questionable, mainly due to the stationarity assumption. We propose deep ensembles as a simple method to improve the uncertainty quantification of statistical downscaling models. By better capturing uncertainty, statistical downscaling models allow for superior planning against extreme weather events, a source of various negative social and economic impacts. Since no observational future data exists, we rely on a pseudo reality experiment to assess the suitability of deep ensembles for quantifying the uncertainty of climate change projections. Deep ensembles allow for a better risk assessment, highly demanded by sectoral applications to tackle climate change.
Federated Learning: Organizational Opportunities, Challenges, and Adoption Strategies
Joaquin Delgado Fernandez, Martin Brennecke, Tom Barbereau
et al.
Restrictive rules for data sharing in many industries have led to the development of federated learning. Federated learning is a machine-learning technique that allows distributed clients to train models collaboratively without the need to share their respective training data with others. In this paper, we first explore the technical foundations of federated learning and its organizational opportunities. Second, we present a conceptual framework for the adoption of federated learning, mapping four types of organizations by their artificial intelligence capabilities and limits to data sharing. We then discuss why exemplary organizations in different contexts - including public authorities, financial service providers, manufacturing companies, as well as research and development consortia - might consider different approaches to federated learning. To conclude, we argue that federated learning presents organizational challenges with ample interdisciplinary opportunities for information systems researchers.
Analysis of the spacial sanctity of Dokkan-Davood in Sarpol-e Zahab, Kermanshah in the religion of the Ahl-e Hagh
poorya Heydarimehr, Ali Asghar Salahshoor, Bahman Firoozmandi
The research data is collected through visiting and observing monument and ceremonies, as well as interviewing and studying documents belonging to a group known in Kermanshah province as Yaresan or Ahl-e Hagh. In this study, it was assumed that if a place is a place of religious activity or its purpose, then that place is sacred. The defects, filth, and uncleanness of daily life are eliminated in this place. The sanctity of this place is local and Dokkan-e Davood rock-cut is considered sacred for the followers and believers of the religion of Ahl-e Hagh. The holy thing and its manifestation in everything has a deep and complex connection with the issue of "Dun be Dun" in the religion of Ahl-e Hagh. Holy as an abstract matter and its relationship with the real world is the most central discussion of this research which try to express the concept of the holy thing and its manifestation in the Dokkan-e Davood rock-cut as a sacred architecture with an overview of the nature of Ahl-e Hagh religion on which is a visible metaphor for the religious world, and what explains the sanctity of this place, regardless of its architectural appearance, refers to the holy thing. Therefore, we seek to answer this question by presenting historical reports: What is the relationship between the Dokkan-e Davood rock-cut as a work of historical architecture and its sanctity? The data of this research is library-field studies and research method and methodology of text are descriptive-analytical, and narrative respectively.
