The article suggest to identify the principal types of descriptions of gender violence and their role in shaping the female characters of the historical novel «Man eaters» by the Ukrainian writer Zinaida Tulub, as well as to trace the influence of social and gender issues on the stylistic structure of the novel. Attention is drawn to the reflection of the theme of violence and its evolution in the history of Ukrainian literature. Attention is focused on the writer’s critical view of women’s fate in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Ottoman Empire, and the Tsardom of Muscovy of the 17th century. The following types of gender-based violence are systematized: rape, murder and abduction of children, human trafficking, everyday violence, religious control over women, etc. The author has recorded the main stylistic means used by Zinaida Tulub when depicting gender violence in the novel (landscapes, symbolic images, similes, etc.). The article offers a comparative analysis of two central female characters in the novel who are victims of these forms of gender violence: the Ukrainian peasant Horpyna Korzh, who finds herself in captivity in a Tatar village, and the Tatar peasant Medzhe, who is kidnapped by Ukrainian Cossacks. The parallel development of these female characters in the novel allows us to draw conclusions about the universality of this violence. An attempt is made to consider Zinaida Tulub’s works in the context of women’s prose in the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th centuries. Delving into the inner state of female characters experiencing deep emotional catastrophes is one of the characteristics of this prose. The appeal to the facts of the writer’s biography makes it possible to offer a feminist understanding of the work’s issues from the point of view of modern humanities. The article emphasizes the relevance of the study of gender violence in contemporary literary studies.

Aims: This article presents a study of a conceptual model for a machine-actionable Data Management Plan (maDMP - Machine Actionable Data Management Plan) for the Brazilian setting conducted by the Brazilian Institute of Information and Technology (IBICT). The objectives were to analyse the existing tools; to consider the feasibility of developing a new solution from the very beginning, or adapting and remodeling an existing one; and to design the conceptual model considering the agents involved in the Brazilian research ecosystem. Methods: This article reports an exploratory study on the development of a conceptual model of a Data Management Plan for use in the Brazilian scenario. The Design Science Research method was used, a systematic process that allows researchers to study and describe a phenomenon and also design or prescribe solutions for a specific problem (Dresch et al., 2014). Results: A detailed comparative study of the existing development tools for DMPs is presented, in addition to a description of the design of the conceptual model of the Brazilian solution. The ideal scenario for this case is the improvement of the existing DMPTool tool, optimizing resources and development time. This robust instrument has accompanied the development of resources that will establish it a tool for creating DMPs that can be activated by machines. The study identifies the connections and exchanges of information necessary for the Brazilian Science ecosystem, in which the IBICT's DMP tool can play a centralizing and aggregating role.

The paper deals with the publishing history in the post-Soviet era of three very prominent works in Gulag literature in Italian translation – Life and Fate by Vasilij Grossman, Kolyma Tales by Varlam Šalamov and The Gulag Archipelago by Aleksandr Solženicyn – in order to reconstruct their Italian reception in the years 1991-2022. The controversies surrounding the publication of these works in Italy are also discussed, and it is noted how the Italian press has paid particular attention to them, with major Italian writers reviewing the editions and contributing to their Italian reception. Finally, the lack of critical reflection by Italian Russianists on Gulag literature is discussed.

The article explores the hypothesis that modern communication is taking on a special form today. It can be called imitative communication, in which information processing technologies play a very important role. The author derives the origin of this communication from the commercial, consumer status of social information, which in the early stages of the emergence of media reality contributed to the development of market relations. Thanks to the development of technology, the quality of imitation of reality becomes an independent factor infl uencing the deconstruction of a person in the information process. In these conclusions, the author relies on his own long-term studies of the history of television. It was this mass media that laid the foundations of imitative reality, tearing off the perception of reality from its real development and laying the foundations for technological identifi cation of a person to the detriment of traditional personal efforts. Imitative reality has a connection with the phenomenon of the game. The author carries out a phenomenological rethinking of the game in comparison with its classical defi nitions. The game appears as a form of detection of ontological boundaries in which the personality is located. However, with today’s development of technology, the game is turning into a way to replace reality, losing its original status as an identifi er of social meanings. With this interpretation, many currently unresolved problems, for example, the problem of computer addiction, acquire the features of distinct social deviations that have specifi c ways of treatment. As a perspective for the development of the existing situation, the author calls the reditization (return) of the individual to reality, while virtual reality should acquire the status of another utopia in the history of mankind

The Nibelungenlied and the Thidrekssaga are two actualizations of the same plot, yet they show a number of differences. By outlining the portrait of the protagonist the Nibelungenlied calls Margrave Rüdiger von Bechelaren and the Thidrekssaga calls Rodingeir von Bakkalar, while reviewing pre-existing literature on the subject, the article at hand demonstrates the figure’s vast differences. In doing so, the article demonstrates that in the Nibelungenlied, an adaptation courtoise (Höfisierung) is achieved through various characteristics of the Margrave, such as the use of a specific narration mode, the employment of the Topos locus amoenus, and the contrasting reflection of Christian and worldly lifestyles and their values. The Nibelungenlied can even be classified as a helferzentrierte Brautwerbungsdichtung (a piece of helper-focused courtship poetry) because of the Brautwerbungsschema (courting scheme) used by Rüdiger to find a wife for his feudal lord Etzel. The Margrave does not pose as a main protagonist, overall, he is still of high importance to the Nibelungenlied. These courtoise elements are absent in the Thidrekssaga. While Rüdiger appears as a model-knight in the Nibelungenlied, his counterpart, Rodingeir, in the Thidrekssaga plays a strictly functional role in advancing the plot. In the Nibelungenlied, the protagonists status as a model-knight culminates in the well-known vasallity conflict, in which a hierarchization of types of vassal obligations only seemingly settles the conflict. Moreover, through this dilemma, the non-literary conflict of Christian and worldly lifestyles is negotiated. The article at hand demonstrates that Rüdiger von Bechelaren’s character is integral to the meaning and structure of the Nibelungenlied and determines the genre, while Rodingeir von Bakkalar is only employed marginally and functionally.

Dependent type theory has been applied to natural language semantics in order to provide a formally precise and computationally adequate account of dynamic aspects of meaning. One of the frameworks of natural language semantics based on dependent type theory is Dependent Type Semantics (DTS), whose focus is on the compositional interpretations of anaphoric expressions. In this paper, we extend the framework of DTS with a mechanism to handle entailment and presupposition associated with factive verbs such as "know". Using the notion of proof objects as first-class objects, we provide a fully compositional account of presuppositional inferences triggered by factive verbs. The proposal also gives a formal reconstruction of the type-distinction between propositions and facts and thereby accounts for the lexical semantic differences between factive and non-factive verbs in a type-theoretical setting.

In Malaysia, corporate social responsibility (CSR) is relatively new but corporations have been required to engage in and disclose their CSR. A typical genre for disclosure is CSR reports and these reports often refer to other texts. The article investigates the act of referencing to other texts or intertextuality in Malaysian CSR reports. It creates an archive of CEO Statements and Environment Sections in CSR reports and studies the archive for keywords, which can identify the incorporated texts. The function of these texts is examined in relation to Malaysia’s corporate context. CSR reports contain explicit references to documents (policies, regulations, reports, research, standards) and to individuals/groups (CEOs, stakeholders, expert organizations). The incorporated texts display variation in corporate control, which organizes these texts along an intertextual cline. The cline helps to identify corporate and non-corporate sources among the texts. The selection of incorporated texts may reflect government and stock exchange demands. The texts are not standardized and are relevant for the CSR domain and corporations, where these texts monitor and justify CSR performance. Yet, the incorporated texts may perpetuate inexact reporting because corporations select the texts and the parts of texts to refer to. Since these texts have been employed to scrutinize initiatives and results, CSR reports can claim to represent the “truth” about a corporation’s CSR. Hence, intertextuality serves corporate interests.
