Irreducibility of the parabolic induction of essentially Speh representations and a representation of Arthur type over a p-adic field

Barbara Bošnjak, Alexander Stadler

Let $F$ be a $p$-adic field. In this article, we consider representations of split special orthogonal groups $\mathrm{SO}_{2n+1}(F)$ and symplectic groups $\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}(F)$ of rank $n$. We denote by $π_1 \times \ldots \times π_r \rtimes π$ the normalized parabolically induced representation of either. Now let $u_i$ be essentially Speh representations and $π$ a representation of Arthur type. We prove that the parabolic induction $u_1 \times \ldots \times u_r \rtimes π$ is irreducible if and only if $u_i \times u_j$, $u_i \times u_j^\vee$ and $u_i \rtimes π$ are irreducible for all choices of $i\neq j$. If $u_i$ are Speh representations, we determine the composition series of the above parabolically induced representation. Through this, we are able to produce a new collection of unitary representations.

Bridging Large Language Models and Graph Structure Learning Models for Robust Representation Learning

Guangxin Su, Yifan Zhu, Wenjie Zhang et al.

Graph representation learning, involving both node features and graph structures, is crucial for real-world applications but often encounters pervasive noise. State-of-the-art methods typically address noise by focusing separately on node features with large language models (LLMs) and on graph structures with graph structure learning models (GSLMs). In this paper, we introduce LangGSL, a robust framework that integrates the complementary strengths of pre-trained language models and GSLMs to jointly enhance both node feature and graph structure learning. In LangGSL, we first leverage LLMs to filter noise in the raw data and extract valuable cleaned information as features, enhancing the synergy of downstream models. During the mutual learning phase in LangGSL, the core idea is to leverage the relatively small language model (LM) to process local attributes and generate reliable pseudo-labels and informative node embeddings, which are then integrated into the GSLM's prediction phase. This approach enriches the global context and enhances overall performance. Meanwhile, GSLM refines the evolving graph structure constructed from the LM's output, offering updated labels back to the LM as additional guidance, thus facilitating a more effective mutual learning process. The LM and GSLM work synergistically, complementing each other's strengths and offsetting weaknesses within a variational information-maximizing framework, resulting in enhanced node features and a more robust graph structure. Extensive experiments on diverse graph datasets of varying scales and across different task scenarios demonstrate the scalability and effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Decomposition of higher Deligne-Lusztig representations

Sian Nie

Higher Deligne-Lusztig representations are virtual smooth representations of parahoric subgroups in a $p$-adic group. They are natural analogs of classical Deligne-Lusztig representations of reductive groups over finite fields. The most interesting higher Deligne-Lusztig representations are those attached to elliptic maximal tori, whose compact inductions are expected to realize supercuspidal representations of $p$-adic groups. Under a mild condition on $p$, in this paper we establish an explicit decomposition of these higher Deligne-Lusztig representations into irreducible summands. Surprisingly, all the irreducible summands are built in the same way as those in Yu's construction of irreducible supercuspidal representations, the only difference being that the Weil-Heisenberg representations in Yu's construction are replaced by their geometric analogs. As an application, we show that each irreducible supercuspidal representation of a $p$-adic group, attached to an unramified cuspidal datum, is a direct summand of the compact induction of a suitable higher Deligne-Lusztig representation, whenever the cardinality of the residue field of the $p$-adic field is not too small.

Performance, Staging and Parodies:

Robson Guedes da Silva

Performance, Staging and Parodies: queer knowledges and the ways of drag use in Márcia Pantera’s narratives – The article aims to discuss Márcia Pantera’s narratives, exploring the performance, staging and parodies of gender present in the use of queer knowledge and drag. Using narrative encounters as a methodological ethos, it embraces poetics as a creative possibility for weaving performative research. In its analytical action, the text enunciates the effects of the poetic encounter with Márcia Pantera, who, in narrating her performative experiments, engendered the making of powerful mobilizations and fabulations for thinking about the body surface and its anarchic-performative action. The article concludes its poetic journey by glimpsing the creative action of Márcia Pantera’s performance in the constitution of dissident modes of proliferation of educational affectations.

Parkinson gait modelling from an anomaly deep representation

Edgar Rangel, Fabio Martinez

Parkinson's Disease (PD) is associated with gait movement disorders, such as bradykinesia, stiffness, tremors and postural instability, caused by progressive dopamine deficiency. Today, some approaches have implemented learning representations to quantify kinematic patterns during locomotion, supporting clinical procedures such as diagnosis and treatment planning. These approaches assumes a large amount of stratified and labeled data to optimize discriminative representations. Nonetheless these considerations may restrict the approaches to be operable in real scenarios during clinical practice. This work introduces a self-supervised generative representation to learn gait-motion-related patterns, under the pretext of video reconstruction and an anomaly detection framework. This architecture is trained following a one-class weakly supervised learning to avoid inter-class variance and approach the multiple relationships that represent locomotion. The proposed approach was validated with 14 PD patients and 23 control subjects, and trained with the control population only, achieving an AUC of 95%, homocedasticity level of 70% and shapeness level of 70% in the classification task considering its generalization.

Artistic Strategies in the screendance Fôlego

Diogo Angeli, Marcelo Rocco

This article explores the screendance Fôlego (2018), whose theme addresses the violence practiced against black bodies in contemporary times. To that end, this work presents a brief overview about the historicity of slavery in Brazil, in particular, about the city of Campinas (SP), place of creation of the work, based on the concept of necropolitics (Mbembe, 2016). Therefore, the article discusses the virtual process of creation in screendance (Angeli, 2020), contributing to the debate about the different territorialities of the performance and the political and social provocations in dance.

THE TRANSFORMATION OF MAJAPAHIT TEMPLE ORNAMENTS INTO BATIK MOTIFS

Ken Andhisti

Batik ERNA Mojokerto is a hand-written Mojokerto-style batik renowned for incorporating a Majapahit theme into its batik production. Some of the names of the batik motifs, such as the Surya Majapahit, Alas Majapahit, and Bunga Cinta Majapahit, have Majapahit nuances. The uniqueness of Batik Erna motivates this study to formulate the following research problem: how to transform the shape of the Majapahit heritage ornaments into Batik ERNA motifs? The purpose of this descriptive qualitative study is to investigate ERNA Batik motifs. Observation and interviews were utilized for data collecting, whereas data was examined using domain, taxonomy, and component analysis. The results of this study show that Batik ERNA transforms the ornaments of Majapahit heritage, such as the shape of the temple, flora and fauna ornaments on the relief walls, and the Majapahit royal signs into its batik motifs. The ornaments and the temple shapes have inspired the creation of batik motifs. The transformation results can be seen in the batik motifs of Ukel Cambah, Surya Majapahit, Rawan Inggek, and Kembang Suruh.

Dekonstrukcija in rekonstrukcija fikcijskega sveta: o dveh nasprotujočih si primerih sodobne metadrame

Lada Cale Feldman

V prispevku razpravljam o načinih, kako se metadramske modalnosti simultane dekonstrukcije in rekonstrukcije fiktivnega vesolja pojavljajo v dveh sodobnih igrah, Zapiranju ljubezni (2011) Pascala Ramberta in Avtorju (2009) Tima Croucha.

Quaternionic Speh representations

Yuanqing Cai

For a central division algebra $D$, we study a family of representations of $\mathrm{GL}_{k,D}$ (both locally and globally), which can be viewed as analogues of the Speh representations. Locally, we study unique models for these representations. Globally, we show that these representations support certain non-vanishing Fourier coefficients.

The Hearing Body in Robert Wilson’s and Mikhail Baryshnikov’s Letter to a Man

Sylvia Solakidi

In 2015 Robert Wilson presented Letter to a Man, a solo for Mikhail Baryshnikov, based on the diaries that Vaslav Nijinsky wrote when he was descending into schizophrenia. A soundscape composed of recorded phrases repeated by the voices of Wilson, Lucinda Childs and Baryshnikov stages the auditory hallucinations of schizophrenia. Baryshnikov’s body moves in response to voices that are chasing each other by repeating motives of reflective meanings turned into sound, in a way reminiscent of a fugue. The relationship between the body and the world from the point of view of auditory stimuli and movement is explored by this essay-fugue of performance philosophy through the concept of the hearing body that the writer elaborates based on Baryshnikov’s performance and her experience in the audience. Wilson’s soundscape and the ontology of phenomenologist Merleau-Ponty—his notions of coherent deformation and simultaneity, in particular—chase each other like voices in a fugue and demonstrate a continuum between body and world that brings to the foreground the difficulties in the interaction and the play of both pre-reflective and reflective powers of the body.

«…the only thing left to eat is the truth». Image, Text and Artivist Critique in Shaun Tan’s "Tales from the Inner City"

David Kern

The work of Australian visual artist and writer Shaun Tan is characterized by productive fusions of text and image powering his politically charged artistic practice – a practice of artivist intervention to mobilize what Neumann and Rippl (2020) call «Verbal-visual configurations». This article explores the forms and functions of verbal-visual configurations in Tan’s work. I close-read two episodes from his recent visual narrative Tales from the Inner City (2018), with a particular focus on how «intermedial strategies» are employed to address pressing issues in the so-called Anthropocene: power relations, anthropocentrism, and human exceptionalism. I suggest that Tales from the Inner City enables a productive argument about textual-visual resistance repertoires, and I analyze the “intermedial aesthetics” sustaining this artivist intervention.

Genre and Stylistic Features of the Modern Audiobook

V. Bal, Elizaveta E. Gutkevich

Modern technological conditions make it possible to create, quickly replicate and use audio books conveniently. Audio books are one of the fastest growing segments of the global publishing market. Informative issues of creating audio books, not technological ones, are in the research focus of the article. The content of an audiobook is a voiced text that refers to the “auditory literature”. Assessments of the quality of the auditory literature are polar. On the one hand, it is considered secondary to the original literary text; on the other hand, it is a self-contained artistic phenomenon with its own aesthetic nature. In this article, an audiobook is considered precisely in the aspect of its artistic value, which is highlighted when speaking about the genre nature of the voiced text. The genre features of the voiced text in this study are identified taking into account the communicative features of its formal-stylistic features. The communicative nature of the audiobook genre is associated with two types of reading, which reflect the opposite positions of the two participants in communication. On the one hand, this is an expres-sive reading aloud, which can also be defined as staged reading. Genetically, this type of reading is associated with public performances of artists and initially assumed live reading. Further, this type of reading is transformed into the genre of radio plays, called “theater at the microphone”. In modern communicative practices of creating and repli-cating audio content, including one related to the actor’s readings of works of art, there is no binding to time and place. On the other hand, this is auditory reading, a modifica-tion of which is audio reading in modern technological conditions. If auditory reading is the first reading practice of a child mastering books from the voice of a parent, then audio reading is the choice of an adult who can read. The acoustic representation of a literary work is associated not only with the performance of elementary technical characteristics of sound, but also with the introduction of a certain aesthetic value into it. The creative translation of a literary text from verbal to acoustic should preserve its value in the aesthetic plane, without reducing it to a purely pragmatic one. Actualization of the aesthetic value of an audiobook outside of its paper format is associated with the principles of its directing and editorial preparation – the principles associated with the implementation of the stylistic characteristics of the genre form of an audiobook. Translation of a verbal literary text into an audio one is carried out as a result of comparing reading a book to dramatic action. In this case, the forming element of the genre becomes the sounding text itself. In the case of audio books, the reader’s voice as a performer’s instru-ment and the musical noise accompaniment of the text read is a style-forming genre element. The article traces the publishing strategies for the embodiment of the formal-stylistic features of the audiobook genre in the context of modern audio cultural practices.

O FIGURINO COMO INSTRUMENTO POLÍTICO: A IMPORTÂNCIA DA ARTE QUESTIONADORA

Mariana Carvalho Xavier, Rosane Muniz
